< Deuteronomy 14 >

1 You are the children of the Lord your God. Don't mutilate yourselves or shave your forehead like pagans do when they mourn the dead,

2 because you are a holy people who belong to the Lord your God. The Lord chose you as his special people out of all the nations on earth.
nĩgũkorwo mũrĩ andũ mamũrĩirwo Jehova Ngai wanyu. Kuuma ndũrĩrĩ-inĩ ciothe cia thĩ, Jehova nĩamũthuurĩte mũtuĩke andũ ake a bata.
3 You must not eat anything repulsive.
Mũtikanarĩe kĩndũ o nakĩ kĩrĩ thaahu.
4 These are the animals that you are allowed to eat: cattle, sheep, goats,
Ici nĩcio nyamũ iria mwagĩrĩirwo kũrĩa: nĩ ndegwa, na ngʼondu, na mbũri,
5 deer, gazelles, wild goats, antelopes, and mountain sheep.
na thwariga, na thiiya, na thwara, na mbũri ya werũ, na ndoo, na ngondi, o na ngʼondu cia irĩma-inĩ.
6 You can eat any animal that both has a divided hoof and also chews the cud.
No mũrĩe nyamũ o yothe ĩrĩ mahũngũ maatũku na makarekania na nĩĩcookagia ithagumia.
7 But you are not allowed to eat those that either chew the cud or have a divided hoof. This includes: camels, rabbits, and rock hyraxes. Even though they chew the cud, they don't have a divided hoof. You must treat them as unclean.
No rĩrĩ, harĩ nyamũ iria ĩcookagia ithagumia kana irĩ mahũngũ maatũku marekanĩtie biũ, mũtikanarĩe ngamĩĩra, kana mbũkũ, kana ikami. O na gũtuĩka nĩicookagia ithagumia, mahũngũ ma cio ti maatũku, icio irĩ thaahu harĩ inyuĩ.
8 The same applies to the pig. Even though it has a divided hoof, it does not chew the cud. So you must treat it as unclean. You must not eat its meat or touch its dead body.
Nayo ngũrwe, o na akorwo mahũngũ mayo nĩmarekanĩtie biũ-rĩ, ndĩcookagia ithagumia; ĩyo ĩrĩ thaahu harĩ inyuĩ. Mũtikanarĩe nyama ciacio kana mũhutie ciimba ciacio.
9 When it comes to creatures that live in the water, you are allowed to eat anything that has fins and scales.
Thĩinĩ wa nyamũ ciothe iria itũũraga maaĩ-inĩ, no mũrĩĩage ĩrĩa yothe ĩrĩ mathagu manyiitaine na ĩrĩ ngaracũ mwĩrĩ.
10 But you must not eat anything that does not have fins and scales. You must treat them as unclean.
No ĩrĩa yothe ĩtarĩ tũthagu na ngaracũ, mũtikanamĩrĩe; nĩgũkorwo ĩrĩ thaahu harĩ inyuĩ.
11 You are allowed to eat any clean bird.
No mũrĩe nyoni o yothe ĩrĩa ĩtarĩ thaahu.
12 But you must not eat the following: eagle, griffon vulture, bearded vulture,
No ici mũtikanarĩe: nderi, na ndiyũ, na ndiyũ iria njirũ,
13 buzzard, kites, any kind of falcon,
na hũngũ ĩrĩa ndune na mũthemba o wothe wa hũngũ iria njirũ,
14 any member of the crow family,

15 tawny owl, long-eared owl, gulls, any kind of hawk,
na ndundu ĩrĩa ĩrĩ rũhĩa, na ndundu ĩrĩa ĩgambaga, na nyoni ya iria-inĩ ĩrĩa ĩrĩ mathagu maraaya, na mũthemba o wothe wa rwĩgĩ,
16 little owl, eagle owl, barn owl,
na gatundu karĩa kanini, na ndundu ĩrĩa nene, o na ndundu ĩrĩa njerũ,
17 desert owl, Egyptian vulture, fish owl,
na ndundu ya werũ, na rwĩgĩ rũnene rũrĩa rũrĩĩaga thamaki, na nyoni ya iria-inĩ ĩrĩa ĩrĩ ngingo ndaaya,
18 storks, any kind of heron, hoopoe, or bats.
na karoga-ngunũ, na mĩthemba yothe ya cũcũ-wa-njoka, na hudihuda, o na rũhuhu.
19 All insects that fly are unclean to you; you must not eat them.
Tũnyamũ tuothe tũrĩa tũrĩ mathagu tũmbũkaga tũrĩ gĩtutu tũrĩ thaahu harĩ inyuĩ, mũtikanatũrĩe.
20 But you are allowed to eat any clean animal that has wings.
No nyamũ yothe ĩrĩ mathagu na ndĩrĩ thaahu no mũmĩrĩe.
21 You must not eat any animal that dies. You can give it to a foreigner in your town, and they can eat it, or you can sell it to a foreigner. You, however, are a holy people who belong to the Lord your God. Don't cook a young goat in its mother's milk.
Mũtikanarĩe kĩndũ o na kĩrĩkũ kĩrĩa mũgaakora gĩkuĩte. No mũkĩhe mũndũ wa kũngĩ ũrĩa ũtũũraga itũũra-inĩ o rĩothe rĩa matũũra manyu, nake no akĩrĩe, kana ũkĩenderie mũrũrĩrĩ. No inyuĩ mũrĩ andũ maamũrĩirwo Jehova Ngai wanyu. Mũtikanaruge koori na iria rĩa nyina.
22 Make sure you pay a tithe of every crop grown each year in your fields.
Menyererai mũrutage gĩcunjĩ gĩa ikũmi kĩa maciaro mothe ma mĩgũnda yanyu mwaka o mwaka.
23 You are to eat a tenth of your grain, new wine, and olive oil, and the firstborn of your herds and flocks, in the presence of the Lord your God at the place he will choose to live with you, so that you will learn to always respect the Lord your God.
Rĩagĩrai gĩcunjĩ gĩa ikũmi kĩa ngano yanyu, na ndibei yanyu ya mũhihano, na maguta manyu, na marigithathi manyu ma ndũũru cianyu cia ngʼombe na cia mbũri mbere ya Jehova Ngai wanyu mũrĩ handũ harĩa agaathuura ha gũtũũria Rĩĩtwa rĩake, nĩgeetha mwĩrute gwĩtigĩra Jehova Ngai wanyu hĩndĩ ciothe.
24 However, if it's too far to carry all the tithe that the Lord your God has blessed you with, because the place where the Lord your God will choose to live with you is too distant,
No rĩrĩ, handũ hau hangĩkorwo nĩ haraihu mũno, na Jehova Ngai wanyu nĩamũrathimĩte na mũtingĩhota gũkuua gĩcunjĩ kĩanyu gĩa ikũmi mũtware handũ hau (nĩ ũndũ handũ hau Jehova agaathuura ha gũtũũria Rĩĩtwa rĩake nĩhamũraihĩrĩirie mũno-rĩ),
25 then you can exchange it for money, take the money with you and go to the place the Lord your God will choose.
hĩndĩ ĩyo mũgaakũũrania gĩcunjĩ kĩanyu gĩa ikũmi na betha, na inyuĩ mũtware betha ĩyo handũ harĩa Jehova Ngai wanyu agaathuura.
26 Then you can spend the money on anything you like—cattle, sheep, wine, alcoholic drink, or anything else you want. Then you can have a feast there in the presence of the Lord your God and celebrate with your family.
Hũthĩrai betha ĩyo na kũgũra kĩrĩa gĩothe mũngĩenda: ngʼombe, kana ngʼondu, kana ndibei o na kana kĩndũ kĩgagatie gĩa kũnyua, kana o kĩndũ gĩothe kĩrĩa mũngĩenda. Ningĩ inyuĩ na andũ a nyũmba cianyu mũkaarĩĩra indo icio o hau mbere ya Jehova Ngai wanyu mũkenete.
27 Don't forget to take care of the Levites in your town, because they don't have any share in the allotment of land.
Na mũtikanarekererie Alawii arĩa matũũraga matũũra-inĩ manyu, nĩgũkorwo matirĩ gĩthaka kana igai rĩao ene.
28 At the end of every third year, collect a tenth of all your produce for that year and store it in your town.
Na rĩrĩ, o mĩaka ĩtatũ yathira, mũrutage icunjĩ cia ikũmi cia uumithio wanyu wothe wa mwaka ũcio, mũgaaciga kũu matũũra-inĩ manyu,
29 This way the Levites (who don't have any share in the allotment of land), the foreigners, the orphans, and the widows in your town will be provided with what they need. The Lord your God will bless you in everything you do.
nĩgeetha Alawii (arĩa matarĩ agaĩre gĩthaka kana igai rĩao ene), na andũ a kũngĩ, na ciana cia ngoriai, na atumia a ndigwa arĩa matũũraga matũũra-inĩ manyu, magookaga makarĩa na makahũũna, nĩguo Jehova Ngai wanyu amũrathimage wĩra-inĩ wothe wa moko manyu.
