< Deuteronomy 1 >

1 This is the record of what Moses told all the Israelites during their time in the desert to the east of the Jordan. They were in the Arabah near Suph, between Paran on the one side and Tophel, Laban, Hazeroth, and Di-zahab on the other.
Hekah olka he Jordan rhalvang kah khosoek, Suph imdan kolken Paran laklo neh Tophel, Laban, Hazeroth neh Dizahab ah Israel boeih ham Moses loh a thui pah.
2 (It takes eleven days to go from Horeb to Kadesh-barnea by the road that passes Mount Seir.)
Te vaengah Seir tlang long kah Horeb lamkah Kadeshbarnea he hnin rha hlai at longcaeh hla pueng.
3 On the first day of the eleventh month of the fortieth year, Moses recounted to the Israelites everything that the Lord had instructed him to tell them.
Kum likip a lo vaengkah a hla hlai at kah hla lamhma cuek dongah BOEIPA kah a uen boeih te Israel ca rhoek ham Moses loh a thui pah.
4 This happened after he defeated Sihon king of the Amorites, who ruled in Heshbon, and then at Edrei after he defeated Og king of Bashan, who ruled in Ashtaroth.
Heshbon ah aka ngol Amori manghai Sihon neh Edrei kah Ashtaroth ah aka ngol Bashan manghai Oga a tloek phoeiah,
5 Speaking on the east side of the Jordan in the land of Moab, Moses began to explain these instructions, saying:
Moab kho kah Jordan rhalvang ah BOEIPA kah olkhueng te Moses loh koe a thuicaih tih,
6 The Lord our God told us at Horeb: “You have remained here beside this mountain for long enough.
“Mamih kah BOEIPA Pathen loh Horeb ah a thui tah, 'Hekah tlang ah na om uh khaw rhoeh coeng.
7 Continue your journey and go to the hill country of the Amorites and all their neighbors, into the Jordan Valley, into the hill country, into the foothills, into the Negev, and along the coast to the country of the Canaanites up to Lebanon, as far as the great River Euphrates.
Nangmih te hooi uh lamtah hlah uh laeh. Amori tlang neh a imben boeih ah, kolken tlang neh kolrhawk ah khaw, Negev neh Kanaan kho kah tuitun langkaeng long khaw, Lebanon tuiva Perath tuiva puei duela cet uh.
8 Look, I'm giving this land to you. Go and take ownership of the land that the Lord promised he would give to your fathers Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and to their descendants who would follow them.”
Nangmih mikhmuh kah khohmuen kam paek he hmuh uh. Cet uh lamtah pang uh. Tekah khohmuen te ni BOEIPA loh na pa rhoek Abraham taengah, Isaak taengah, Jakob taengah khaw amih phoeikah a tii a ngan taengah khaw paek ham la ol a caeng.
9 That's when I told you, “I can't take responsibility for all of you by myself.
Te vaeng tue ah nang mih taengah ka thui vanbangla, “Nangmih khuen ham he kai loh kan na moenih.
10 The Lord your God has increased your numbers so much that today there are as many of you as there are stars in the sky.
BOEIPA na Pathen loh nangmih m'ping sak coeng dongah tihnin ah tah vaan kah aisi bangla na yet coeng.
11 May the Lord, the God of your forefathers, multiply you a thousand times and bless you as he has promised.
Na pa rhoek kah BOEIPA Pathen loh nangmih taengkah a thui vanbang la nangmih te a pueh thawng khat lam khaw n'thap saeh lamtah yoethen m'pae saeh.
12 But how can I take on all your troubles, burdens, and arguments just by myself?
Tedae nangmih kah laipuei neh hnophueih neh tuituknah te kai loh metlam ka phueih thai eh?
13 You must choose for yourselves wise, experienced men with good judgment from each of your tribes, and I will put them in charge as your leaders.”
Te dongah namah koca khui lamkah aka cueih tih aka yakming neh aka ming thai hlang rhoek te namamih ham tuek uh lamtah amih te nangmih kah a lu la ka khueh eh?,’ ka ti.
14 You replied to me, saying, “Your proposal is a good one.”
Te vaengah kai te nan doo uh tih, 'Na ol thui te te then, saii ham om,’ na ti uh.
15 So I summoned your tribal leaders, men with good judgment, and put them in charge of you, as commanders and officials for your tribes. Some were responsible for thousands, some for hundreds, some for fifties, and some for tens.
Te dongah aka cueih tih aka ming hlang rhoek te namamih koca rhoek kah a lu la ka khueh eh. Te vaengah thawngkhat kah mangpa rhoek, yakhat kah mangpa rhoek, sawmnga kah mangpa rhoek neh hlangrha kah mangpa rhoek te nangmih soah a lu la ka khueh tih nangmih koca rhoek kah rhoiboei la om uh.
16 At the same time I gave strict instructions to your judges: “Hear the cases brought between your brothers, and make sure you are fair when you judge between a man and his brother or a foreigner living among you.
Te vaengah nangmih taengkah laitloek rhoek te ka uen tih, 'Na manuca rhoek loh a yaak koi la hlang neh a manuca laklo ah khaw yinlai laklo ah khaw duengnah neh laitloek uh.
17 Don't show any favoritism when you judge—treat the powerful and the common people just the same. Don't let anyone intimidate you, because judgment is done on God's behalf. Bring me any case that is too hard for you, and I will hear it.”
Laitloeknah dongah hlang maelhmai so uh boeh. Tanoe kangham la na yaak akhaw hlang mikhmuh ah bakuep uh boeh. Laitloeknah he Pathen hut la a om dongah nangmih ham aka kuel olka te tah kai taengla hang khuen uh lamtah n'yaak sak uh,’ ka ti nah.
18 This was also the time I instructed you about everything you had to do.
Te vaeng tue kah nangmih kang uen olka boeih te saii uh.
19 Following the orders of the Lord our God, we left Horeb and set off towards the hill country of the Amorites, passing through the whole of the large and terrifying desert that you yourselves have experienced. When we reached Kadesh-barnea,
Te dongah mamih BOEIPA Pathen kah a uen vanbangla Horeb lamkah m'puen uh tih khosoek khoham khaw boeih na hmuh uh. Rhih aka om Amori tlang long la n'cet uh tih Kadeshbarnea te m'pha uh.
20 I explained to you, “You have reached the hill country of the Amorites, which the Lord our God is giving to us.
Te vaengah nangmih taengah, “Mamih kah BOEIPA Pathen loh mamih taengah m'paek Amori tlang la na pawk uh coeng.
21 Look, the Lord your God has given you the land! Go and take ownership of the land as the Lord, the God of your forefathers, has told you. Don't be frightened or terrified.”
Na pa rhoek kah BOEIPA Pathen loh nangmih taengah, 'Rhih boeh, rhihyawp boeh,’ a ti vanbangla nangmih mikhmuh ah na BOEIPA Pathen loh m'paek ke so uh. Khohmuen ke cet lamtah pang laeh,’ ka ti.
22 Then you all came to me and suggested, “Let's send men on ahead to explore the land and report back to us about what route to take and which towns we'll come across.”
Te vaengah kai taengla boeih na capit uh tih, 'Mamih hmai ah hlang tueih uh sih lamtah khohmuen te ha hip uh saeh. Te daengah ni n'caeh ham koi longpuei neh m'pha ham koi khopuei rhoek kah olka te mamih taengla hang khuen uh eh,” na ti uh.
23 It seemed like a good plan to me, so I chose twelve of your men, one from each tribe.
Tekah olka ka mik dongah a thuem van dongah koca pakhat ah hlang pakhat neh hlang hlai nit te nangmih khui lamkah ka tuek.
24 They set off and went up into the hill country as far as the Valley of Eshcol, exploring the land.
Te dongah hooi uh tih tlang la a yoeng uh phoeiah Eshkol soklong la pawk uh tih kho a hip uh.
25 They brought back some of the country's fruit, carrying it down to us, and gave us the report: “The Lord our God is giving us good land.”
Te vaengah khohmuen thaihtae te a kut neh a loh uh tih mammih taengla han suntlak puei uh phoeiah mamih ham olka ham voeih uh. Mamih kah Pathen BOEIPA loh mamih taengah m'paek khohmuen kah a then te khaw a thui uh.
26 But you didn't want to go. You rebelled against the instructions of the Lord your God.
Tedae caeh ham na huem uh pawt dongah na BOEIPA Pathen kah ol te na koek uh.
27 You complained while you were in your tents and said, “It's because the Lord hates us that he led us out of Egypt in order to hand us over to the Amorites to be wiped out.
Namamih kah dap khuiah pataeng na cailak uh tih, 'Mamih kah BOEIPA kah hmuhuetnah dongah mamih mitmoeng sak ham ni Egypt kho lamloh n'khuen tih Amori kut dongla n'thak.
28 Where are we going? Our brothers terrified us because they told us: ‘The people are bigger and taller than us; the towns are large, with high walls that reach the sky. We even saw the descendants of the giant Anak there!’”
Kaimih ta melam ka caeh uh eh? Mah manuca aka cet rhoek loh, 'Pilnam loh len uh tih mamih lakah sang uh, khopuei rhoek khaw ka tih a vong cak loh vaan duela a pha, teah te Anakim ca rhoek khaw ka hmuh,’ a ti uh tih mamih kah lungbuei thinko he hoeng a khah uh.
29 So I told you, “Don't be frightened or scared of them!
Nangmih te, “Amih taengah na sarhing sak boeh, rhih uh boeh,’ ka ti.
30 The Lord your God who leads your way will fight for you in the same way you saw him do for you in Egypt.
Nangmih mikhmuh kah aka cet na Pathen BOEIPA loh Egypt ah nangmih ham namamih mikhmuh kah a saii bang boeih la nangmih ham a vathoh bitni.
31 He did the same in the desert—you saw how the Lord your God carried you like a father carries his son during your whole journey until you arrived here.”
Hekah hmuen na pha uh due na caeh uh vaengah longpueng khing ah hlang loh a ca a poeh bangla khosoek ah BOEIPA na Pathen loh nangmih m'poeh te khaw na hmuh uh coeng.
32 Despite all this, you didn't trust the Lord your God,
Tedae tekah olka a om lalah nangmih loh BOEIPA na Pathen te na tangnah uh pawh.
33 who led you on the journey, present in the fire by night and in the cloud by day, looking to find a place for you to camp and to show you the way to go.
Longpueng ah na rhaeh nah ham nangmih kah hmuen tlap te nangmih mikhmuh ah halo. Khoyin ah hmai neh longpuei te nangmih n'tueng tih khothaih ah cingmai neh na cet uh.
34 When the Lord heard what you were saying, he got angry and swore an oath:
Nangmih kah olka ol te BOEIPA loh a yaak vaengah a thintoek tih ol a caeng.
35 “Not a single one of this evil generation will see the good land I promised to give your forefathers,
“Na pa rhoek taengah paek ham ka caeng khohmuen then te he kah boethae thawnpuei hlang rhoek khuikah hlang loh hmu mahpawh.
36 except Caleb, son of Jephunneh. He will see it, and I will give him and his descendants the land he explored, because he was completely committed to the Lord.”
Jephunneh capa Kaleb long tah te a hmuh ni. BOEIPA hnukah a tlun van dongah a soah a cawt vanbangla khohmuen te anih taeng neh a ca rhoek taengah aka paek ni, ' a ti.
37 The Lord also got angry with me because of you. He told me, “Even you won't enter the country.
Nangmih kongah kai taengah khaw BOEIPA loh a thintoek tih, 'Nang khaw na kun mahpawh.
38 However, Joshua, son of Nun, your assistant, will enter it. Encourage him, for he will help Israel to occupy the land.
Na mikhmuh ah aka pai Nun capa Joshua tah kun ni. Israel te anih loh a pang ham coeng dongah anih te mah talong laeh.
39 Your small children that you claimed would become prisoners, your children who at the time didn't know good from evil, they will be the ones to enter the land that I will give them, and they will occupy it.
Na ca te maeh la om ni na ti uh cakhaw a tue thae then aka ming mueh na ca rhoek tah kun uh ni. Te dongah amih te khohmuen ka paek vetih amih loh a pang uh ni.
40 But now turn around and head back into the desert on the road that leads to the Red Sea.”
Tedae nangmih te namamih mael uh lamtah carhaek li longpuei kah khosoek te paan uh,’ a ti.
41 But you answered and told me, “We have sinned against the Lord! We will go and we will fight and we will do everything the Lord our God has ordered us to do.” Then you all picked up your weapons and prepared for battle thinking it would be easy to go and fight in the hill country.
Te vaengah kai he nan doo uh tih, 'BOEIPA taengah ka tholh uh coeng. Mamih kah Pathen BOEIPA kah a uen bangla boeih yoeng uh sih lamtah vathoh uh sih,’ na ti uh. Te dongah hlang khat rhip loh amah kah caemtloek tubael te a vah uh tih tlang la yoeng ham te na yoeikoek sakuh.
42 But the Lord instructed me, “Order them not to go and fight because I won't be with you to prevent you from being defeated by your enemies.”
Tedae BOEIPA loh kai taengah, “Amih te thui pah. Cet uh boeh, vathoh uh boeh, nangmih lakli ah ka om pawt dongah na thunkha rhoek kah mikhmuh ah na yawk uh mahpawt nim,” a ti.
43 I told you this, but you refused to listen. You defied the instructions of the Lord and arrogantly went to fight in the hill country.
Nangmih taengah ka thui dae na ngai uh pawt tih BOEIPA ol te na koek uh. Na lokhak uh tih tlang la na luei uh.
44 Then the Amorites living there in the hills came and attacked you. They chased after you like a swarm of bees, killing you all the way from Seir to Hormah.
Te dongah nangmih aka doe ham tlang ah aka om Amori te halo tih khoi loh a cuk thil bangla nangmih te n'hloem uh phoeiah Seir lamkah Hormah duela nangmih te m'phop uh.
45 You came back to camp and wept before the Lord, but he refused to listen to what you said or to pay attention to you.
Te vaengah na balkhong uh tih BOEIPA mikhmuh ah na rhap uh dae nangmih ol te BOEIPA loh a yaak voel mueh la nangmih taengah a hna khaw kaeng pawh.
46 You stayed there in Kadesh for a long time.
Te dongah ni Kadesh kah na om uh te khohnin la khohnin a yet na om uh.
