< Acts 3 >

1 Peter and John were on their way up to the Temple at the time of the afternoon prayer, around 3 p.m.
Peter and John were going up into the temple at the hour of prayer, the ninth hour.
2 A man who had been lame from birth was being carried there. Every day he was placed beside the Temple gate called “Beautiful” so he could beg from the people going into the Temple.
A certain man who was lame from his mother’s womb was being carried, whom they laid daily at the door of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask gifts for the needy of those who entered into the temple.
3 He saw Peter and John as they were about to enter the Temple and asked them for some money.
Seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple, he asked to receive gifts for the needy.
4 Peter looked right at him. John did, too. “Look at us!” Peter said.
Peter, fastening his eyes on him, with John, said, “Look at us.”
5 The lame man gave them his full attention, expecting to get something from them.
He listened to them, expecting to receive something from them.
6 “I don't have any silver or gold,” Peter told him, “but I'll give you what I have. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk!”
But Peter said, “I have no silver or gold, but what I have, that I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, get up and walk!”
7 Peter took him by the right hand and helped him up. Right away his feet and ankles became strong.
He took him by the right hand and raised him up. Immediately his feet and his ankle bones received strength.
8 He jumped to his feet, and then began to walk. He went with them into the Temple, walking and jumping and praising God.
Leaping up, he stood and began to walk. He entered with them into the temple, walking, leaping, and praising God.
9 Everyone there saw him walking around and praising God.
All the people saw him walking and praising God.
10 They recognized him as the beggar who used to sit by the Temple's Beautiful Gate, and they were surprised and amazed at what had happened to him.
They recognized him, that it was he who used to sit begging for gifts for the needy at the Beautiful Gate of the temple. They were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him.
11 He held on tightly to Peter and John while everyone ran to them by Solomon's Porch in complete astonishment at what had happened.
As the lame man who was healed held on to Peter and John, all the people ran together to them in the porch that is called Solomon’s, greatly wondering.
12 When Peter saw this opportunity he told them, “People of Israel, why are you surprised at what's happened to this man? Why are you staring at us as if it was by our own power or faith that we made him walk?
When Peter saw it, he responded to the people, “You men of Israel, why do you marvel at this man? Why do you fasten your eyes on us, as though by our own power or godliness we had made him walk?
13 The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob—the God of our forefathers—has glorified his servant Jesus. He was the one you betrayed and rejected in the presence of Pilate, even after Pilate had decided to release him.
The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the God of our fathers, has glorified his Servant Jesus, whom you delivered up and denied in the presence of Pilate, when he had determined to release him.
14 You rejected the one who is holy and good, and demanded a murderer be released to you.
But you denied the Holy and Righteous One and asked for a murderer to be granted to you,
15 You killed the author of life, the one God raised from the dead—and we are witnesses to this.
and killed the Prince of life, whom God raised from the dead, to which we are witnesses.
16 By trusting in Jesus' name this man was healed by him. You see this man here; you know him. Through trusting in Jesus this man has received complete healing right in front of all of you.
By faith in his name, his name has made this man strong, whom you see and know. Yes, the faith which is through him has given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all.
17 Now I know, brothers and sisters, that you did this in ignorance, like your rulers.
“Now, brothers, I know that you did this in ignorance, as did also your rulers.
18 But God fulfilled what he had prophesied through all the prophets: that his Messiah would suffer.
But the things which God announced by the mouth of all his prophets, that Christ should suffer, he thus fulfilled.
19 Now repent, and change your ways, that your sins can be wiped away, so the Lord can send opportunities for you to heal and recover,
“Repent therefore, and turn again, that your sins may be blotted out, so that there may come times of refreshing from the presence of the Lord,
20 and send Jesus, the Messiah appointed for you.
and that he may send Christ Jesus, who was ordained for you before,
21 For he must stay in heaven until the time when everything is restored, as God announced through his holy prophets long ago. (aiōn g165)
whom heaven must receive until the times of restoration of all things, which God spoke long ago by the mouth of his holy prophets. (aiōn g165)
22 Moses said, ‘The Lord God will send you a prophet from among your own people who is like me. You must listen to everything he tells you.
For Moses indeed said to the fathers, ‘The Lord God will raise up a prophet for you from among your brothers, like me. You shall listen to him in all things whatever he says to you.
23 Anybody who doesn't listen to him will be totally removed from the people.’
It will be that every soul that will not listen to that prophet will be utterly destroyed from among the people.’
24 All the prophets who have spoken, from Samuel on, prophesied about these days.
Yes, and all the prophets from Samuel and those who followed after, as many as have spoken, also told of these days.
25 You are the sons of the prophets, and of the agreement which God made with your fathers when he said to Abraham, ‘From your descendants all the families of the earth will be blessed.’
You are the children of the prophets, and of the covenant which God made with our fathers, saying to Abraham, ‘All the families of the earth will be blessed through your offspring.’
26 God prepared his Servant and sent him to you first, to bless you by turning every one of you from your evil ways.”
God, having raised up his servant Jesus, sent him to you first to bless you, in turning away every one of you from your wickedness.”
