Acts 16
1 Paul went first to Derbe, and then on to Lystra, where he met a believer by the name of Timothy. He was the son of a Jewish Christian mother, and his father was Greek.
Entonces Pablo fue primero a Derbe, y luego a Listra, donde conoció a un creyente llamado Timoteo. Este era el hijo de una madre cristiana judía, y su padre era griego.
2 The brothers at Lystra and Iconium spoke well of him.
Y los hermanos en Listra e Iconio hablaron bien de él.
3 Paul wanted Timothy to travel with him, so he circumcised him because the Jews in the area all knew that Timothy's father was Greek.
Pablo quería que Timoteo viajara con él, así que lo circuncidó porque todos los judíos de la región sabían que el padre de Timoteo era griego.
4 As they went through the different towns they gave them the requirements the apostles and elders in Jerusalem had said should be observed.
Y mientras pasaban por las diferentes ciudades, enseñaban los requisitos que los apóstoles y ancianos en Jerusalén habían dicho que debían observarse.
5 The churches were strengthened in their trust in the Lord and every day their numbers increased.
Las iglesias fueron fortalecidas en su fe en el Señor, y cada día aumentaban los miembros.
6 They traveled through the districts of Phrygia and Galatia, since the Holy Spirit prevented them from going to the province of Asia to speak the word.
Viajaron también por los distritos de Frigia y Galacia, pues el Espíritu Santo los advirtió de ir a la provincia de Asia para predicar la palabra.
7 When they arrived at the border of Mysia they tried to enter Bithynia, but the Spirit of Jesus would not allow them to enter.
Cuando llegaron a la frontera de Misia trataron de entrar a Bitinia, pero el Espíritu de Jesús no los dejó entrar.
8 So they passed by Mysia and went down to Troas.
Así que pasaron por Misia y descendieron a Troas.
9 There Paul saw in vision during the night a man from Macedonia standing up, pleading with him, “Please come over to Macedonia and help us!”
Allí Pablo vio en visión durante la noche a un hombre de Macedonia en pie, rogándole: “¡Por favor, ven a Macedonia a ayudarnos!”
10 After Paul saw this vision, we immediately made arrangements to go to Macedonia, since we concluded that God had called us to share the good news with them.
Y después que Pablo tuvo esta visión, hicimos arreglos de inmediato para ir a Macedonia, pues concluimos que Dios nos había llamado para predicar la buena noticia con ellos.
11 We set sail from Troas and made straight for Samothrace. The next day we went on to Neapolis,
Entonces partimos navegando desde Troas directo hasta Samotracia. Al día siguiente continuamos hasta Neápolis,
12 and from there to Philippi, the most important town in Macedonia, and also a Roman colony. We stayed in this city for several days.
y de allí hasta Filipos, que es la ciudad más importante de Macedonia, y también una colonia romana. Y nos quedamos en esta ciudad durante varios días.
13 On the Sabbath day we went out of the town gates down to the riverside where we thought people would come to pray. We sat down and talked with the women that had gathered there.
El sábado salimos por las puertas de la ciudad hacia las orillas del río, donde pensábamos que la gente iría a orar. Entonces nos sentamos y hablamos con las mujeres que se habían reunido allí.
14 One of them was called Lydia, who sold purple cloth from the town of Thyatira. She worshiped God, and she listened to us. The Lord opened her mind to what Paul was saying, and she accepted what he told her.
Una de ellas se llamaba Lidia, era de la ciudad de Tiatira y vendía paños de púrpura. Era una adoradora de Dios, y nos escuchó. Entonces el Señor abrió su mente a lo que Pablo le decía, y ella aceptó lo que él le dijo.
15 After she and all her household were baptized, she pleaded with us, “If you really think that I'm truly committed to the Lord, then come and stay at my house.” She kept on insisting until we agreed!
Después que ella y toda su casa se bautizaron, nos rogó: “Si ustedes realmente creen que estoy comprometida con el Señor, vengan y quédense en mi casa”. Y siguió insistiendo hasta que aceptamos.
16 One day when we were going down to the place of prayer we met a slave girl possessed by an evil spirit. She earned her masters a great deal of money by fortune-telling.
Un día, cuando descendíamos al lugar de la oración, conocimos a una joven esclava que estaba poseída por un espíritu maligno. Ella ganaba para sus amos mucho dinero a través de la adivinación.
17 This girl followed Paul and the rest of us around, shouting, “These men are the servants of Almighty God. They are telling you how to be saved!”
Esta chica siguió a Pablo y al resto de nosotros por todos los lugares, gritando: “Estos hombres son siervos del Dios Todopoderoso. ¡Ellos dicen cómo se puede ser salvo!”
18 She went on doing this for several days. This bothered Paul so he turned around and told the spirit, “I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to leave her!” The spirit immediately left her.
Y siguió haciendo esto por varios días. Pero esto molestó a Pablo, así que se dio vuelta y le dijo al espíritu: “¡En el nombre de Jesucristo te ordeno que salgas de ella!” Y el espíritu salió de ella inmediatamente.
19 But when her masters saw they had lost their means of making money, they grabbed hold of Paul and Silas and dragged them before the authorities at the marketplace.
Pero cuando sus amos vieron que la joven había perdido sus medios para ganar dinero, agarraron a Pablo y a Silas y los llevaron a rastras ante las autoridades que estaban en la plaza del mercado.
20 They brought them in front of the magistrates, and accused them: “These Jewish men are causing a great disturbance in our town,” they said.
Y los llevaron ante los magistrados, acusándolos: “Estos hombres judíos están causando grandes disturbios en nuestra ciudad”, decían.
21 “They're advocating things that are illegal for us as Romans to accept or to practice.”
“Están enseñando ideas que son ilegales para nosotros como romanos, y que no aceptamos ni practicamos”.
22 The crowd joined together in an attack on them. The magistrates tore off Paul and Silas' clothes, and ordered them beaten with rods.
Entonces la multitud se reunió para atacarlos. Los magistrados rasgaron la ropa de Pablo y Silas, y ordenaron que fueran golpeados con varas.
23 After giving them a severe beating, they threw them into prison, ordering the jailer to keep them locked up.
Y después de darles una golpiza severa, los metieron en la prisión, ordenándole al carcelero que los mantuviera bajo llave.
24 The jailer followed his orders. He threw Paul and Silas into the inner cell and shackled their feet in the stocks.
El carcelero siguió las órdenes. Y metió a Pablo y a Silas en la celda interna y encadenó sus pies en el cepo.
25 Around midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing praises to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them.
Cerca de la media noche Pablo y Silas estaban orando y cantando alabanzas a Dios, y los demás prisioneros los escuchaban.
26 Suddenly a tremendous earthquake shook the foundations of the prison. Immediately all the doors flew open and everyone's chains fell off.
De repente un terrible terremoto sacudió los cimientos de la cárcel. De inmediato todas las puertas se abrieron y las cadenas de todos se cayeron.
27 The jailer woke up and saw the doors of the prison wide open. He drew his sword and was about to kill himself, thinking that the prisoners had escaped.
Entonces el carcelero despertó y vio que las puertas de la cárcel estaban abiertas. Y entonces sacó su espada, y estaba a punto de matarse, pensando que los prisioneros habían escapado.
28 But Paul shouted out, “Don't hurt yourself—we're all still here!”
Pero Pablo gritó: “¡No te hagas daño, todavía estamos aquí!”
29 The jailer asked for lights to be brought and rushed in. Shaking with fear he fell down before Paul and Silas.
Entonces el carcelero pidió que le trajeran lámparas y se apresuró. Temblando de miedo cayó a los pies de Pablo y Silas.
30 He escorted them out and asked them, “Sirs, what do I have to do so I can be saved?”
Luego los acompañó hasta la puerta y les preguntó: “Señores, ¿qué necesito hacer para ser salvo?”
31 “Trust in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved—you and your whole household,” they replied.
“Cree en el Señor Jesús y serás salvo, tú y toda tu casa”, respondieron.
32 Then they shared the word of the Lord with him and everyone who lived in his house.
Luego predicaron la palabra del Señor con él y con todos los que vivían en su casa.
33 Even though it was late at night he bathed their wounds, and he was baptized right away, along with all his family.
Y aunque era tarde en la noche, lavó sus heridas y fue bautizado allí mismo, junto a su familia.
34 He took them home and had a meal prepared for them. The jailer and his whole family were full of joy because they trusted in God.
Y los llevó a su casa y mandó a preparar comida para ellos. Y el carcelero y toda su familia estaban felices porque creían en Dios.
35 Early the next day the magistrate sent officials to the jailer, telling him, “Release those men.”
Siendo temprano, al día siguiente, el magistrado envió oficiales donde el carcelero, diciéndole: “Libera a esos hombres”.
36 The jailer told Paul, “The magistrates have sent word to release you. So you can leave, and go in peace.”
Entonces el carcelero le dijo a Pablo: “Los magistrados han enviado orden para dejarte libre. Así que puedes irte, y ve en paz”.
37 But Paul told them, “They publicly beat us without a trial—and yet we're Roman citizens! Then they threw us in prison. Now they want to quietly let us go? No, they should come themselves and release us!”
Pero Pablo les dijo: “¡Ellos nos golpearon públicamente sin un juicio, y nosotros somos ciudadanos romanos! Luego nos echaron a la cárcel. ¿Ahora quieren dejarnos ir discretamente? ¡No, ellos deben venir personalmente y liberarnos!”
38 The officials went back and reported this to the magistrates. When they heard that Paul and Silas were Roman citizens they were really worried,
Entonces los oficiales regresaron e informaron esto a los magistrados. Cuando oyeron que Pablo y Silas eran ciudadanos romanos, se preocuparon mucho,
39 and went to apologize to them. They escorted them out and begged them to leave town.
y fueron a disculparse con ellos. Y los acompañaron afuera y les rogaron que se fueran de la ciudad.
40 So Paul and Silas left the prison and went to Lydia's house. There they met with the believers, encouraged them, and then went on their way.
Entonces Pablo y Silas salieron de la cárcel y se fueron a la casa de Lidia. Allí se encontraron con los creyentes, los animaron y siguieron su camino.
