< Acts 12 >

1 Around this time King Herod began to persecute some members of the church.
At that [very] now time put forth Herod the king the hands to mistreat some of those of the church.
2 He had James, John's brother, executed by sword.
He executed then James the brother of John with the sword.
3 When he saw that the Jews were pleased by this, he had Peter arrested too. (This was during the Feast of Unleavened Bread.)
(and *k*) Having seen (now *no*) that pleasing it is to the Jews, he proceeded to take also Peter — these were now (the *no*) days of the Unleavened [Bread] —
4 After having Peter arrested, he threw him in prison, with four squads of four soldiers each to guard him. He planned to have Peter brought out for a public trial after the Passover.
whom also having seized he put in prison having delivered [him] to four sets of four soldiers to guard him, intending after the Passover to bring out him to the people.
5 While Peter was kept in prison the church prayed earnestly to God for him.
Indeed therefore Peter was kept in the prison; prayer however was (fervently *N(k)O*) being made by the church to God (concerning *N(k)O*) him.
6 The night before Herod was to have him put on trial, Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, chained to each of them, and with guards at the door keeping watch.
When then was about (to bring forth *N(k)(o)*) him Herod, in the night that [one] was Peter sleeping between two soldiers bound with chains two, guards also before the door were watching the prison.
7 Suddenly an angel of the Lord appeared, and a light shone in the cell. The angel shook Peter awake, saying “Quick! Get up!” The chains fell from his wrists,
And behold an angel of [the] Lord stood by and a light shone in the cell; Having struck then the side of Peter he woke up him saying; do rise up with speed. And fell of him the chains off the hands.
8 and the angel told him, “Get dressed, and put on your sandals.” So he did. Then the angel told him, “Put on your coat and follow me.”
Said (then *N(k)O*) the angel to him; (do dress yourself *N(K)O*) and do yourself put on the sandals of you. He did and so. And he says to him; do yourself wrap around the cloak of you and do follow me.
9 So Peter followed the angel out. He didn't realize that what the angel was doing was actually happening—he thought he was seeing a vision.
And having gone forth he was following (him; *k*) and not did know that real is what is happening through the angel, he was thinking however a vision to see.
10 They passed the first and second sets of guards, and came to the iron gate that led into the city. This opened for them by itself. They went out and down the street, when suddenly the angel left him.
Having passed through then a first guard and a second they came to the gate iron which is leading into the city, which by itself (opened *N(k)O*) to them, And having gone out they went on through street one and immediately departed the angel from him.
11 When Peter came to his senses, he said, “Now I realize this really happened! The Lord sent an angel to rescue me from Herod's power, and from everything that the Jewish people had planned.”
And Peter to himself having come said; Now I know truly that has sent forth (the *no*) Lord the angel of Him and delivered me out of [the] hand of Herod and all the expectation of the people of the Jews.
12 Now that he was conscious of what had happened, Peter went to the house of Mary, the mother of John Mark. Many believers had gathered there, and were praying.
Having considered [it] also he came to the house (*no*) of Mary the mother of John who is called Mark, where were many gathered together and praying.
13 When he knocked on the gateway door, a servant girl called Rhoda came to open up.
When was knocking then (*k*) (he *N(K)O*) [at] the door of the gate came a girl to answer named Rhoda;
14 But recognizing Peter's voice, in her excitement she didn't open the door. Instead she ran back inside shouting, “Peter's at the door!”
And having recognized the voice of Peter from joy not she opened the gate having run in but she reported to have been standing Peter before the gate.
15 “You're mad!” they told her. But she kept on insisting it was true. So they said, “It must be his angel.”
And to her they said; You rave. But she was insisting [it] so to be. And they were saying; The angel it is of him.
16 Peter continued knocking. When they did eventually open the door, they saw it was him, and were totally shocked.
But Peter was continuing knocking; having opened [it] then they saw him and were amazed.
17 Peter held up his hand for them to be quiet, and then explained to them how the Lord had led him out of the prison. “Let James and the brothers know about this,” he told them, and then left to go somewhere else.
Having made a sign then to them with the hand to be silent, he related to them how the Lord him had brought out of the prison; He said (then; *N(k)O*) do report to James and to the brothers these things. And having gone out he went to another place.
18 When daylight came the soldiers were totally confused as to what had happened to Peter.
When was coming now day there was disturbance no small among the soldiers what then [of] Peter has become.
19 Herod had a thorough search made for him, but he couldn't be found. After interrogating the guards, Herod ordered that they should be executed. Then Herod left Judea and went to stay in Caesarea.
Herod then having sought after him and not having found [him] having examined the guards he commanded [them] to be led away [to death], And having gone down from Judea to (*k*) Caesarea he was staying [there].
20 Now Herod had become furious with the people of Tyre and Sidon. They sent a joint delegation to see him and managed to win Blastus, the king's personal assistant, over to their side. They pleaded for peace with Herod because they were dependent on the king's territory for food.
He was now (*k*) (Herod *K*) furiously angry with [the] Tyrians and Sidonians; with one accord then they were coming to him And having gained Blastus who [was] over the bedchamber of the king they were seeking peace, because of being nourished their region by the king’s.
21 When the day came for their appointment with the king, Herod put on his royal robes, sat on his throne, and gave a speech to them.
On the appointed now day Herod having put on apparel royal and having sat on the throne was making an address to them.
22 The audience shouted in response, “This is the voice of a god, not that of a man!”
And the people were crying out; Of a god [this is the] voice and not of a man!
23 Immediately the angel of the Lord struck him down, because he did not give God the glory. He was consumed by worms and died.
Immediately then struck him an angel of [the] Lord in return for that not he gave the glory to God, and having been eaten by worms he breathed his last.
24 But the word of God spread, and more and more people believed.
But the word (of God *NK(O)*) was continuing to grow and was being multiplied.
25 Barnabas and Saul returned from Jerusalem once they had finished their mission, taking John Mark with them.
Barnabas then and Saul returned (to *N(K)O*) Jerusalem having fulfilled the mission, having taken with [them] (and *k*) John the [one] having been called Mark.
