< 2 Timothy 1 >
1 This letter comes from Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus chosen by God, sent to tell about the promise of real life that is in Christ Jesus.
PAULOS, an apostle of Jeshu Meshiha by the will of Aloha, and on account of the promise of life which is in Jeshu Meshiha,
2 I'm sending it to you Timothy, my dear son. May you have grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.
to Timotheos my beloved son: grace and mercies and peace from Aloha our Father, and from our Lord Jeshu Meshiha.
3 I'm always thinking of you and I'm so thankful to God, whom I serve as my ancestors did, with a clear conscience. I never forget to mention you in my prayers.
I thank Aloha, whom I serve from my fathers with a pure conscience, that constantly I remember thee in my prayers of the night and of the day;
4 I remember how you cried, and I so want to see you! That would make me really happy.
and have longed to see thee, being mindful of thy tears, that I may be filled with joy:
5 I keep in mind your sincere trust in God, the same trust that your grandmother Lois and mother Eunice also had—and I know that same trust continues in you.
in remembrance of thee (and) of thy true faith which dwelt first in the mother of thy mother Lois, and in thy mother Eunika, and which, I am persuaded, (is) in thee also.
6 That's why I want to remind you to revitalize God's gracious gift to you which you received when I placed my hands on you.
On account of this I put thee in mind to keep awake the gift of Aloha, which is in thee by the laying on of my hands.
7 God didn't give us a spirit that makes us fearful, but a spirit of power and love and good sense.
For Aloha hath not given to us the spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of discipline.
8 So don't be ashamed to tell others about our Lord, or be ashamed of me. Instead be ready to share in suffering for the good news as God gives you strength.
Wherefore be not thou ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner; but sustain evil with the gospel, through the power of Aloha,
9 He is the one who has saved us and called us to live a holy life—not through what we do, but by God's own plan and through his grace. (aiōnios )
who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling; not according to our works, but according to his will, and that grace of his which was given to us in Jeshu Meshiha before the time of the worlds, (aiōnios )
10 He gave this grace to us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time, and is now revealed in the appearing of our Savior Christ Jesus. He destroyed death, making life and immortality brilliantly clear through the good news.
and is now revealed by the revelation of our Saviour Jeshu Meshiha, who hath abolished death, and hath demonstrated life and incorruption, through the gospel,
11 I was appointed speaker, apostle, and teacher of this good news.
of which I am appointed an herald and an apostle and a teacher of the nations:
12 That's also the reason I'm suffering all this, but I'm not ashamed, because I know whom I've trusted. I'm confident that he can look after what I've entrusted to him until the Day he returns.
on account of which I suffer these, and am not ashamed. I know in whom I have believed, and am persuaded that there is power in his hands my deposite to keep for me unto that day.
13 You should follow the model of good advice that you learned from me, with an attitude of trust and love in Christ Jesus.
Let the outline of sound words be with thee, which thou hast heard from me, with the faith and love which are in Jeshu Meshiha:
14 Guard the truth that was entrusted to you through the Holy Spirit who lives in us.
that good deposite keep through the Spirit of Holiness who dwelleth in us.
15 You already know that everyone from Asia has abandoned me, including Phygelus and Hermogenes.
Know this, that all those of Asia are turned from me, of whom are Phygellos and Harmogenes.
16 May the Lord be kind to the family of Onesiphorus, because he often took care of me and wasn't embarrassed about me being in prison.
Our Lord give mercies to the house of Onesiphoros, who many times hath refreshed me, and of the chains of my bonds hath not been ashamed.
17 When he was in Rome, he took the trouble to search for me, and he found me.
But when also he came to Ruma, with diligence he sought me, and found me.
18 May the Lord grant him his blessing in the Day of Judgment. (Timothy, you're very much aware of how much Onesiphorus did for me when he was in Ephesus.)
Our Lord grant that he may find mercies with our Lord in that day: and how he ministered to me in Ephesos thou especially knowest.
