2 Samuel 8

1 Sometime after this, David attacked and subdued the Philistines, taking Metheg-ammah from the them.

Et dans les temps qui suivirent, David battit les Philistins et les humilia, et ôta des mains des Philistins les rênes de leur métropole.

2 David also defeated the Moabites. He made them lie down on the ground, and he measured them with a length of cord. He measured two lengths for those to be killed, and one cord length for those to be allowed to live. So he made them subject to him and required them to pay taxes.

Et il battit les Moabites, et il les mesura au cordeau, en les faisant coucher par terre, et il en mesura deux cordeaux pour les livrer à la mort et un cordeau entier pour leur laisser la vie. Ainsi, les Moabites furent asservis à David, et payèrent le tribut.

3 David also defeated Hadadezer, son of Rehob, king of Zobah, as he tried to enforce his control along the Euphrates River.

Et David battit Hadadézer, fils de Rehob, roi de Tsoba, en allant reprendre la haute main sur l'Euphrate.

4 David captured from him 1,000 chariots, 7,000 charioteers, and 20,000 foot soldiers. David hamstrung all the chariot horses—except he saved enough for 100 chariots.

Et David lui prit mille sept cents cavaliers, et vingt mille fantassins. David énerva tous les chevaux de trait, dont pourtant il garda cent pour lui.

5 When the Arameans of Damascus came to help King Hadadezer of Zobah, David killed twenty-two thousand of them.

Et les Syriens de Damas vinrent au secours de Hadadézer, roi de Tsoba, et David tua aux Syriens vingt-deux mille hommes.

6 He placed garrisons in Aramean kingdom with its capital in Damascus, and made the Arameans subject to him and required them to pay taxes. The Lord gave David victories wherever he went.

Et David mit des garnisons dans la Syrie de Damas, et les Syriens furent asservis à David et payèrent le tribut. Ainsi l'Éternel rendait David victorieux dans toutes ses expéditions.

7 David took the shields of gold that belonged to Hadadezer's officers and brought them to Jerusalem.

Et David prit les boucliers d'or que portaient les serviteurs d'Hadadézer et les apporta à Jérusalem.

8 King David also took a large quantity of bronze from Betah and Berothai, towns that had belonged to Hadadezer.

Et de Bétah et de Bérothaï, villes de Hadadézer, David enleva une très grande quantité d'airain.

9 When Tou, king of Hamath, learned that David had destroyed the entire army of Hadadezer, king of Zobah,

Et Thoï, roi de Hamath, apprit que David avait abattu toute la puissance de Hadadézer;

10 he sent his son Joram to David to make friends with him and to congratulate him on his victory in battle over Hadadezer. Tou and Hadadezer had often been at war. Joram brought all kinds of gifts of gold, silver, and bronze.

alors Thoï députa Joram, son fils, au Roi David pour le saluer, et pour le féliciter d'avoir fait la guerre à Hadadézer, et de l'avoir défait (car Thoï était en hostilité avec Hadadézer); et Joram apportait de la vaisselle d'argent, de la vaisselle d'or et de la vaisselle d'airain.

11 King David dedicated these gifts to the Lord, along with the silver and gold he had taken from all the nations he had subdued:

Et le Roi David la consacra aussi à l'Éternel, de même que l'argent et l'or qu'il avait consacré sur les dépouilles de tous les peuples domptés par lui,

12 Edom, Moab, the Ammonites, the Philistines, and Amalekites; as well as the plunder taken from Hadadezer, son of Rehob, king of Zobah.

Syriens, Moabites, Ammonites, Philistins, Amalécites, et sur le butin de Hadadézer, fils de Rehob, roi de Tsoba.

13 David also made a name for himself when he came back after defeating eighteen thousand Edomites in the Valley of Salt.

David acquit aussi un nom par la défaite des Syriens dans la vallée du sel, au nombre de dix-huit mille.

14 He placed garrisons all through Edom, and all the Edomites became subject to David. The Lord gave David victories wherever he went.

Et il mit des garnisons dans l'Idumée, dans toute l'Idumée il mit des garnisons et toute l'Idumée fut asservie à David. Ainsi l'Éternel rendait David victorieux dans toutes ses campagnes.

15 David ruled over all Israel. He did what was fair and right for all his people.

Et David régna sur la totalité d'Israël et exerça le droit et la justice sur la totalité de son peuple.

16 Joab, son of Zeruiah, was the army commander, and Jehoshaphat, son of Ahilud, kept the official records.

Or Joab, fils de Tseruïa, était préposé sur l'armée, et Josaphat, fils d'Ahilud, était chancelier,

17 Zadok, son of Ahitub, and Ahimelech, son of Abiathar, were priests, while Seraiah was the secretary.

et Tsadoc, fils d'Ahitub, et Ahimélech, fils d'Abiathar, étaient Prêtres, et Seraïa, secrétaire,

18 Benaiah, son of Jehoiada was in charge of the Cherethites and Pelethites; and David's sons were priests.

et Benaïa, fils de Joïada, était préposé sur les satellites et les coureurs, et les fils de David étaient ministres.
