2 Samuel 3
1 There was a long war between those on the side of Saul and those on the side of David. David's side grew stronger, while Saul's side grew weaker.
La guerra fra la casa di Saul e la casa di Davide fu lunga. Davide si faceva sempre più forte, mentre la casa di Saul si andava indebolendo.
2 David's sons born at Hebron were: Amnon (firstborn), by Ahinoam from Jezreel;
E nacquero a Davide dei figliuoli a Hebron. Il suo primogenito fu Amnon, di Ahinoam, la Izreelita;
3 Chileab (second), by Abigail, Nabal's widow from Carmel; Absalom (third), by Maacah, daughter of King Talmai of Geshur:
il secondo fu Kileab di Abigail, la Carmelita, ch’era stata moglie di Nabal; il terzo fu Absalom, figliuolo di Maaca, figliuola di Talmai re di Gheshur;
4 Adonijah (fourth), by Haggith; Shephatiah (fifth), by Abital;
il quarto fu Adonija, figliuolo di Hagghith; il quinto fu Scefatia, figliuolo di Abital,
5 Ithream (sixth), by David's wife Eglah. These were the sons born to David at Hebron.
e il sesto fu Ithream, figliuolo di Egla, moglie di Davide. Questi nacquero a Davide in Hebron.
6 Abner had been strengthening his position among the supporters of Saul's dynasty during the war between those on the side of Saul and those on the side of David.
Durante la guerra fra la casa di Saul e la casa di Davide, Abner si tenne costante dalla parte della casa di Saul.
7 Saul had a concubine named Rizpah, daughter of Aiah. One day Ishbosheth accused Abner, saying “Why have you been sleeping with my father's concubine?”
Or Saul aveva avuta una concubina per nome Ritspa, figliuola di Aia; e Jsh-Bosheth disse ad Abner: “Perché sei tu andato dalla concubina di mio padre?”
8 Abner got extremely angry at Ishbosheth accusation. “Am I a dog's head siding with Judah?” he replied. “Right up to the present day I have been loyal to your dynasty—to your father Saul, and to his brothers and friends. I haven't betrayed you to David. But now you dare to accuse me of sinning with this woman!
Abner si adirò forte per le parole di Jsh-Bosheth, e rispose: “Sono io una testa di cane che tenga da Giuda? Oggi io do prova di benevolenza, verso la casa di Saul tuo padre, verso i suoi fratelli ed i suoi amici, non t’ho dato nelle mani di Davide, e proprio oggi tu mi rimproveri il fallo commesso con questa donna!
9 So now may God punish me severely if I don't help David achieve what the Lord has promised him.
Iddio tratti Abner col massimo rigore, se io non faccio per Davide tutto quello che l’Eterno gli ha promesso con giuramento,
10 I will hand over the kingdom from Saul's dynasty, and help set up David's rule over Israel and Judah, from Dan to Beersheba.”
trasferendo il regno dalla casa di Saul a quella di lui, e stabilendo il trono di Davide sopra Israele e sopra Giuda, da Dan fino a Beer-Sheba”.
11 Ishbosheth didn't dare to say anything else to Abner because he was frightened of him.
E Jsh-Bosheth non poté replicar verbo ad Abner, perché avea paura di lui.
12 Then Abner sent messengers to speak for him to David, saying, “Who does the country belong to anyway? Make an agreement with me, and you can be sure I'll be on your side to have all of Israel follow you.”
E Abner spedì tosto de’ messi a Davide per dirli: “A chi appartiene il paese?” e “Fa’ alleanza con me, e il mio braccio sarà al tuo servizio per volgere dalla tua parte tutto Israele”.
13 “Fine,” David replied, “I'll make an agreement with you. But I have one condition: I won't see you unless you bring Saul's daughter Michal when you come.”
Davide rispose: “Sta bene; io farò alleanza con te; ma una sola cosa ti chieggo, ed è che tu non ti presenti davanti a me senza menarmi Mical, figliuola di Saul, quando mi comparirai dinanzi”.
14 Then David sent messengers tell Ishbosheth, son of Saul, “Give me back my wife Michal—I paid a dowry for her of one hundred Philistine foreskins.”
E Davide spedì de’ messi a Jsh-Bosheth, figliuolo di Saul, per dirgli: “Rendimi Mical, mia moglie, la quale io mi fidanzai a prezzo di cento prepuzi di Filistei”.
15 Ishbosheth sent for her and took her away from her husband Paltiel, son of Laish.
Jsh-Bosheth la mandò a prendere di presso al marito Paltiel, figliuolo di Lais.
16 Her husband followed her to the town of Bahurim, crying as he went. Then Abner ordered him, “Go back home!” So he went home.
E il marito andò con lei, l’accompagnò piangendo, e la seguì fino a Bahurim. Poi Abner gli disse: “Va’, torna indietro!” Ed egli se ne ritornò.
17 Abner spoke with the elders of Israel and said, “For a while now you have wanted to have David as your king.
Intanto Abner entrò in trattative con gli anziani d’Israele, dicendo: “Già da lungo tempo state cercando d’aver Davide per vostro re;
18 Now is the time to do it, because the Lord promised David, ‘Through my servant David I am going to save my people Israel from the Philistines and all their enemies.’”
ora è tempo d’agire; giacché l’Eterno ha parlato di lui e ha detto: Per mezzo di Davide, mio servo, io salverò il mio popolo Israele dalle mani dei Filistei e da quelle di tutti i suoi nemici”.
19 Abner also talked to the people of Benjamin, and went to Hebron to let David know everything that the Israelites and the whole tribe of Benjamin had decided to do.
Abner si abboccò pure con quelli di Beniamino; quindi andò anche a trovar Davide a Hebron per metterlo a parte di tutto quello che Israele e tutta la casa di Beniamino aveano deciso.
20 Abner came with twenty of his men to see David at Hebron, and David prepared a feast for them.
Abner giunse a Hebron presso Davide, accompagnato da venti uomini; e Davide fece un convito ad Abner e agli uomini ch’erano con lui.
21 Abner told David, “Let me go immediately and summon all of Israel to come together for my lord the king, so they may make an agreement with you, and that you may rule over all you would wish.” Then David sent Abner safely on his way.
Poi Abner disse a Davide: “Io mi leverò e andrò a radunare tutto Israele presso il re mio signore, affinché essi facciano alleanza teco e tu regni su tutto quello che il cuor tuo desidera”. Così Davide accomiatò Abner, che se ne andò in pace.
22 Soon after Joab and David's men came back from a raid, bringing with them a large amount of plunder. However, Abner wasn't there with David in Hebron because David had already sent him safely on his way in peace.
Or ecco che la gente di Davide e Joab tornavano da una scorreria, portando seco gran bottino; ma Abner non era più con Davide in Hebron, poiché questi lo avea licenziato ed egli se n’era andato in pace.
23 When Joab and all the army that was with him arrived, he was told, “Abner, son of Ner, came to see the king, who sent him safely on his way.”
Quando Joab e tutta la gente ch’era con lui furono arrivati, qualcuno riferì la nuova a Joab, dicendo: “Abner, figliuolo di Ner, è venuto dal re, il quale lo ha licenziato, ed egli se n’è andato in pace”.
24 Joab went to the king and asked, “What do you think you're doing? Here's Abner, who came to see you. Why on earth did you send him on his way? Now he's got clean away!
Allora Joab si recò dal re, e gli disse “Che hai tu fatto? Ecco, Abner era venuto da te; perché l’hai tu licenziato, sì ch’egli ha potuto andarsene liberamente?
25 You do see that Abner, son of Ner, came here to trick you, to spy on the movements of your army, and to find out everything you're doing!”
Tu sai chi sia Abner, figliuolo di Ner! egli è venuto per ingannarti, per spiare i tuoi movimenti, e per sapere tutto quello che tu fai”.
26 When Joab left David, he sent messengers after Abner. They met up with him at the well of Sirah and brought him back, but David didn't know anything about it.
E Joab, uscito che fu da Davide, spedì dei messi dietro ad Abner, i quali lo fecero ritornare dalla cisterna di Siva, senza che Davide ne sapesse nulla.
27 When Abner arrived back in Hebron, Joab took him aside into the town gatehouse as if he was going to talk with him in private. But Joab stabbed him in the belly, killing him in revenge for killing Joab's brother Asahel.
E quando Abner fu tornato a Hebron, Joab lo trasse in disparte nello spazio fra le due porte, come volendogli parlare in segreto, e quivi lo colpì nell’inguine, sì ch’egli ne morì; e ciò, per vendicare il sangue di Asael suo fratello.
28 When David heard about this later he said, “I and my kingdom are totally innocent before the Lord regarding the death of Abner, son of Ner!
Davide, avendo poi udito il fatto, disse: “Io e il mio regno siamo in perpetuo innocenti, nel cospetto dell’Eterno, del sangue di Abner, figliuolo di Ner;
29 May the guilt for his death fall on Joab and his family! May Joab's descendants always have someone who has running sores or leprosy or is crippled or who is killed by the sword or who is starving.”
ricada esso sul capo di Joab e su tutta la casa di suo padre, e non manchi mai nella casa di Joab chi patisca di gonorrea o di piaga di lebbra o debba appoggiarsi al bastone o perisca di spada o sia senza pane!”
30 (This is why Joab and Abishai his brother killed Abner, because he had killed their brother Asahel during the battle at Gibeon.)
Così Joab ed Abishai, suo fratello, uccisero Abner, perché questi aveva ucciso Asael loro fratello, a Gabaon, in battaglia.
31 Then David ordered Joab and everyone who was there, “Tear your clothes, put on sackcloth, and mourn for Abner.” King David himself followed the body as it was carried to the grave.
Davide disse a Joab e a tutto il popolo ch’era con lui: “Stracciatevi le vesti, cingetevi di sacco, e fate cordoglio per la morte di Abner!” E il re Davide andò dietro alla bara.
32 They buried Abner in Hebron, and the king cried loudly at the grave, along with all the people.
Abner fu seppellito a Hebron, e il re alzò la voce e pianse sulla tomba di Abner; e pianse tutto il popolo.
33 The king sang this lament for Abner: “Did Abner deserve to die like a criminal?
E il re fece un canto funebre su Abner, e disse: “Doveva Abner morire come muore uno stolto?
34 Your hands were not tied together, your feet were not in shackles. But just like a murderer's victim, you too were killed.” All the people cried for him even more.
Le tue mani non eran legate, né i tuoi piedi erano stretti nei ceppi! Sei caduto come si cade per mano di scellerati”.
35 Then people came to David and tried to persuade him to have something to eat during the day. But David swore an oath, saying, “May God punish me severely if I eat bread or anything else before sunset!”
E tutto il popolo ricominciò a piangere Abner; poi s’accostò a Davide per fargli prender qualche cibo mentr’era ancora giorno; ma Davide giurò dicendo: “Mi tratti Iddio con tutto il suo rigore se assaggerò pane o alcun’altra cosa prima che tramonti il sole!”
36 Everyone saw this and thought it was the right thing to do, in the same way that they thought everything the king did was the right thing to do.
E tutto il popolo capì e approvò la cosa; tutto quello che il re fece fu approvato da tutto il popolo.
37 That day everyone in Judah and throughout Israel realized that David had not ordered Abner's murder.
Così tutto il popolo e tutto Israele riconobbero in quel giorno che il re non entrava per nulla nell’uccisione di Abner, figliuolo di Ner.
38 Then the king said to his officers, “Don't you recognize that a commander and a truly great man has fallen in Israel today?
E il re disse ai suoi servi: “Non sapete voi che un principe ed un grand’uomo è caduto oggi in Israele?
39 I am weak right now, even though I'm anointed as king and these men, the sons of Zeruiah, are too powerful for me. But may the Lord repay the evil man according to the evil he has done.”
Quanto a me, benché unto re, sono tuttora debole; mentre questa gente, i figliuoli di Tseruia, son troppo forti per me. Renda l’Eterno a chi fa il male secondo la malvagità di lui”.
