2 Samuel 3
1 There was a long war between those on the side of Saul and those on the side of David. David's side grew stronger, while Saul's side grew weaker.
Il y eut une longue guerre entre la maison de Saül et la maison de David. David devenait de plus en plus fort, mais la maison de Saül s'affaiblissait de plus en plus.
2 David's sons born at Hebron were: Amnon (firstborn), by Ahinoam from Jezreel;
Des fils naquirent à David à Hébron. Son premier-né fut Amnon, d'Ahinoam, la Jizreelite;
3 Chileab (second), by Abigail, Nabal's widow from Carmel; Absalom (third), by Maacah, daughter of King Talmai of Geshur:
son second, Chileab, d'Abigaïl, femme de Nabal, le Carmélite; le troisième, Absalom, fils de Maaca, fille de Talmaï, roi de Gueshur;
4 Adonijah (fourth), by Haggith; Shephatiah (fifth), by Abital;
le quatrième, Adonija, fils de Haggith; le cinquième, Schephatia, fils d'Abital;
5 Ithream (sixth), by David's wife Eglah. These were the sons born to David at Hebron.
et le sixième, Ithream, d'Égla, femme de David. Ceux-ci naquirent à David à Hébron.
6 Abner had been strengthening his position among the supporters of Saul's dynasty during the war between those on the side of Saul and those on the side of David.
Comme il y avait une guerre entre la maison de Saül et la maison de David, Abner se fortifia dans la maison de Saül.
7 Saul had a concubine named Rizpah, daughter of Aiah. One day Ishbosheth accused Abner, saying “Why have you been sleeping with my father's concubine?”
Or Saül avait une concubine, qui s'appelait Ritspa, fille d'Aïa; et Ishbosheth dit à Abner: « Pourquoi es-tu allé vers la concubine de mon père? »
8 Abner got extremely angry at Ishbosheth accusation. “Am I a dog's head siding with Judah?” he replied. “Right up to the present day I have been loyal to your dynasty—to your father Saul, and to his brothers and friends. I haven't betrayed you to David. But now you dare to accuse me of sinning with this woman!
Abner fut très irrité des paroles d'Ishbosheth et dit: « Suis-je une tête de chien qui appartient à Juda? Je fais aujourd'hui preuve de bonté envers la maison de ton père Saül, envers ses frères et envers ses amis, et je ne t'ai pas livré entre les mains de David; et pourtant tu m'accuses aujourd'hui d'une faute au sujet de cette femme!
9 So now may God punish me severely if I don't help David achieve what the Lord has promised him.
Que Dieu fasse ainsi à Abner, et plus encore, si, comme Yahvé l'a juré à David, je n'agis pas de même à son égard:
10 I will hand over the kingdom from Saul's dynasty, and help set up David's rule over Israel and Judah, from Dan to Beersheba.”
de transférer le royaume de la maison de Saül et d'établir le trône de David sur Israël et sur Juda, depuis Dan jusqu'à Beersheba. »
11 Ishbosheth didn't dare to say anything else to Abner because he was frightened of him.
Il ne pouvait plus répondre à Abner, car il avait peur de lui.
12 Then Abner sent messengers to speak for him to David, saying, “Who does the country belong to anyway? Make an agreement with me, and you can be sure I'll be on your side to have all of Israel follow you.”
Abner envoya des messagers à David en son nom, disant: « A qui appartient le pays? » et disant: « Fais ton alliance avec moi, et voici, ma main sera avec toi pour ramener tout Israël vers toi. »
13 “Fine,” David replied, “I'll make an agreement with you. But I have one condition: I won't see you unless you bring Saul's daughter Michal when you come.”
David dit: « Bien. Je vais conclure un traité avec toi, mais je te demande une chose. C'est que tu ne verras pas mon visage si tu n'amènes pas d'abord Mical, la fille de Saül, quand tu viendras voir mon visage. »
14 Then David sent messengers tell Ishbosheth, son of Saul, “Give me back my wife Michal—I paid a dowry for her of one hundred Philistine foreskins.”
David envoya des messagers à Ishbosheth, le fils de Saül, en disant: « Délivre-moi ma femme Mical, qu'on m'a donné en mariage pour cent prépuces de Philistins. »
15 Ishbosheth sent for her and took her away from her husband Paltiel, son of Laish.
Ischboscheth l'envoya chercher auprès de son mari, Paltiel, fils de Laïsch.
16 Her husband followed her to the town of Bahurim, crying as he went. Then Abner ordered him, “Go back home!” So he went home.
Son mari partit avec elle, en pleurant, et la suivit jusqu'à Bahurim. Abner lui dit: « Va, retourne! » et il retourna.
17 Abner spoke with the elders of Israel and said, “For a while now you have wanted to have David as your king.
Abner s'entretint avec les anciens d'Israël, en disant: « Autrefois, vous avez cherché à faire de David votre roi.
18 Now is the time to do it, because the Lord promised David, ‘Through my servant David I am going to save my people Israel from the Philistines and all their enemies.’”
Maintenant, faites-le! Car Yahvé a parlé de David en disant: « Par la main de mon serviteur David, je sauverai mon peuple d'Israël de la main des Philistins et de la main de tous ses ennemis. »
19 Abner also talked to the people of Benjamin, and went to Hebron to let David know everything that the Israelites and the whole tribe of Benjamin had decided to do.
Abner aussi parla aux oreilles de Benjamin; et Abner alla aussi dire aux oreilles de David à Hébron tout ce qui paraissait bon pour Israël et pour toute la maison de Benjamin.
20 Abner came with twenty of his men to see David at Hebron, and David prepared a feast for them.
Abner vint donc auprès de David à Hébron, et vingt hommes avec lui. David fit un festin à Abner et aux hommes qui étaient avec lui.
21 Abner told David, “Let me go immediately and summon all of Israel to come together for my lord the king, so they may make an agreement with you, and that you may rule over all you would wish.” Then David sent Abner safely on his way.
Abner dit à David: « Je me lèverai et je partirai, et je rassemblerai tout Israël auprès de mon seigneur le roi, afin qu'ils fassent alliance avec toi, et que tu règnes sur tout ce que ton âme désire. » David renvoya Abner, qui s'en alla en paix.
22 Soon after Joab and David's men came back from a raid, bringing with them a large amount of plunder. However, Abner wasn't there with David in Hebron because David had already sent him safely on his way in peace.
Voici, les serviteurs de David et Joab revinrent d'un raid et ramenèrent avec eux un grand butin; mais Abner n'était pas avec David à Hébron, car il l'avait renvoyé et il était parti en paix.
23 When Joab and all the army that was with him arrived, he was told, “Abner, son of Ner, came to see the king, who sent him safely on his way.”
Lorsque Joab et toute l'armée qui était avec lui furent arrivés, ils dirent à Joab: « Abner, fils de Ner, est venu voir le roi, il l'a renvoyé et il est parti en paix. »
24 Joab went to the king and asked, “What do you think you're doing? Here's Abner, who came to see you. Why on earth did you send him on his way? Now he's got clean away!
Joab se rendit auprès du roi et dit: « Qu'as-tu fait? Voici qu'Abner est venu te voir. Comment se fait-il que tu l'aies renvoyé, et qu'il soit déjà parti?
25 You do see that Abner, son of Ner, came here to trick you, to spy on the movements of your army, and to find out everything you're doing!”
Tu connais Abner, fils de Ner. Il est venu pour te tromper, pour connaître tes sorties et tes entrées, et pour savoir tout ce que tu fais. »
26 When Joab left David, he sent messengers after Abner. They met up with him at the well of Sirah and brought him back, but David didn't know anything about it.
Lorsque Joab fut sorti de chez David, il envoya des messagers à la poursuite d'Abner, et ils le ramenèrent du puits de Sira; mais David ne le sut pas.
27 When Abner arrived back in Hebron, Joab took him aside into the town gatehouse as if he was going to talk with him in private. But Joab stabbed him in the belly, killing him in revenge for killing Joab's brother Asahel.
Quand Abner fut de retour à Hébron, Joab le prit à part au milieu de la porte pour lui parler à voix basse, et là, il le frappa au corps, de sorte qu'il mourut pour le sang d'Asaël, son frère.
28 When David heard about this later he said, “I and my kingdom are totally innocent before the Lord regarding the death of Abner, son of Ner!
Par la suite, lorsque David l'apprit, il dit: « Moi et mon royaume sommes à jamais innocents devant Yahvé du sang d'Abner, fils de Ner.
29 May the guilt for his death fall on Joab and his family! May Joab's descendants always have someone who has running sores or leprosy or is crippled or who is killed by the sword or who is starving.”
Qu'il retombe sur la tête de Joab et sur toute la maison de son père. Qu'il ne manque pas dans la maison de Joab quelqu'un qui ait une décharge, ou qui soit lépreux, ou qui s'appuie sur un bâton, ou qui tombe par l'épée, ou qui manque de pain. »
30 (This is why Joab and Abishai his brother killed Abner, because he had killed their brother Asahel during the battle at Gibeon.)
Joab et son frère Abishai tuèrent Abner, parce qu'il avait tué leur frère Asahel à Gabaon dans la bataille.
31 Then David ordered Joab and everyone who was there, “Tear your clothes, put on sackcloth, and mourn for Abner.” King David himself followed the body as it was carried to the grave.
David dit à Joab et à tout le peuple qui était avec lui: « Déchirez vos vêtements, revêtez-vous de sacs, et pleurez devant Abner. » Le roi David suivit le cercueil.
32 They buried Abner in Hebron, and the king cried loudly at the grave, along with all the people.
On enterra Abner à Hébron; le roi éleva la voix et pleura devant le tombeau d'Abner, et tout le peuple pleura.
33 The king sang this lament for Abner: “Did Abner deserve to die like a criminal?
Le roi se lamenta sur Abner et dit: « Abner doit-il mourir comme meurt un insensé?
34 Your hands were not tied together, your feet were not in shackles. But just like a murderer's victim, you too were killed.” All the people cried for him even more.
Tes mains n'ont pas été liées, et tes pieds n'ont pas été mis aux fers. Comme un homme tombe devant les enfants de l'iniquité, ainsi tu es tombé. » Tout le peuple pleura de nouveau sur lui.
35 Then people came to David and tried to persuade him to have something to eat during the day. But David swore an oath, saying, “May God punish me severely if I eat bread or anything else before sunset!”
Tout le peuple vint presser David de manger du pain pendant qu'il faisait encore jour; mais David jura, disant: « Que Dieu me fasse ainsi, et plus encore, si je goûte du pain ou autre chose, jusqu'au coucher du soleil. »
36 Everyone saw this and thought it was the right thing to do, in the same way that they thought everything the king did was the right thing to do.
Tout le peuple en prit connaissance, et cela leur plut, comme tout ce que faisait le roi plaisait à tout le peuple.
37 That day everyone in Judah and throughout Israel realized that David had not ordered Abner's murder.
Ainsi, tout le peuple et tout Israël comprirent ce jour-là que ce n'était pas de la part du roi de tuer Abner, fils de Ner.
38 Then the king said to his officers, “Don't you recognize that a commander and a truly great man has fallen in Israel today?
Le roi dit à ses serviteurs: Ne savez-vous pas qu'un prince et un grand homme est tombé aujourd'hui en Israël?
39 I am weak right now, even though I'm anointed as king and these men, the sons of Zeruiah, are too powerful for me. But may the Lord repay the evil man according to the evil he has done.”
Je suis faible aujourd'hui, bien que j'aie été oint roi. Ces hommes, les fils de Tseruja, sont trop forts pour moi. Que Yahvé récompense le méchant selon sa méchanceté. »
