2 Samuel 17
1 Ahithophel said to Absalom, “Let me choose twelve thousand men and set off in pursuit of David tonight.
Achitophel dit à Absalom: Laisse-moi maintenant choisir douze mille hommes, je me lèverai et je poursuivrai David cette nuit.
2 I'll attack him while he is tired and weak. I'll catch him by surprise and all his men will run away. I'll only kill the king
J'arriverai sur lui pendant qu'il sera fatigué et épuisé, et je l'effrayerai. Tout le peuple qui est avec lui s'enfuira. Je ne frapperai que le roi,
3 and bring everybody else back to you. When everybody returns apart from the one man you're after, the whole country will be at peace.”
et je ramènerai tout le peuple vers toi. L'homme que tu cherches est comme si tous étaient revenus. Tout le peuple sera en paix. »
4 This plan looked good to Absalom and to all the elders of Israel.
Cette parole plut à Absalom et à tous les anciens d'Israël.
5 But then Absalom said, “Call in Hushai the Archite too, and let's hear what he's got to say as well.”
Et Absalom dit: « Maintenant, appelez aussi Huschaï, l'Architecte, et écoutons de même ce qu'il dira. »
6 When Hushai came in, Absalom, asked him, “Ahithophel has recommended this plan. Should we go ahead with it? If not, what's your suggestion?”
Lorsque Huschaï fut arrivé auprès d'Absalom, celui-ci lui parla ainsi: « Ahithophel a parlé ainsi. Faisons-nous ce qu'il dit? Sinon, parlez. »
7 “For once Ahithophel's advice isn't good,” Hushai replied.
Huschaï dit à Absalom: « Le conseil qu'Ahitophel a donné cette fois-ci n'est pas bon. »
8 “You know what your father and his men are like. They're great fighters, and now they're as furious as a she-bear robbed of her cubs. In any case, your father is experienced in military tactics, and he won't spend the night with his men.
Huschaï dit encore: « Tu connais ton père et ses hommes, ce sont des hommes puissants, et ils sont féroces dans leur esprit, comme une ourse qui a volé ses petits dans les champs. Ton père est un homme de guerre, et il ne veut pas loger avec le peuple.
9 Right now he's holed up in a cave or some place like that. If he attacks first and some of your men are killed, people who hear about it will say, ‘Absalom's men are being slaughtered.’
Voici, il est maintenant caché dans quelque fosse, ou dans quelque autre lieu. Lorsque quelques-uns d'entre eux seront tombés les premiers, quiconque l'entendra dira: « Il y a un massacre parmi le peuple qui suit Absalom! »
10 Then even the bravest soldier who has the heart of a lion will be scared to death, because everyone in Israel knows that your father is a powerful man who has brave men with him.
Même celui qui est vaillant et dont le cœur est comme celui d'un lion se fondra dans la masse; car tout Israël sait que ton père est un homme puissant et que ceux qui sont avec lui sont des hommes vaillants.
11 My recommendation is that you call up the entire Israelite army from Dan to Beersheba—an army as numerous as the sand on the seashore! Once they've assembled, then you yourself lead them into battle!
Mais je conseille que tout Israël se rassemble autour de toi, depuis Dan jusqu'à Beersheba, comme le sable qui est au bord de la mer pour la multitude, et que tu ailles au combat dans ta propre personne.
12 Then we'll attack David wherever he is, and we'll fall on him as dew falls on the ground. Neither he nor a single one of all the men with him will be left alive!
Nous l'atteindrons dans quelque lieu où il se trouvera, et nous l'éclairerons comme la rosée tombe sur le sol; puis nous ne laisserons pas un seul de lui et de tous les hommes qui sont avec lui.
13 If he tries to find protection in a town, all of Israel will bring ropes to that town, and we will pull it down into the valley so that not even a stone will be left.”
De plus, s'il est entré dans une ville, tout Israël apportera des cordes à cette ville, et nous la tirerons dans le fleuve, jusqu'à ce qu'il ne s'y trouve plus une seule petite pierre. »
14 Absalom and all the Israelite leaders said, “Hushai the Arkite's advice is better than Ahithophel's.” For the Lord had decided to block Ahithophel's good advice in order that he might bring disaster on Absalom.
Absalom et tous les hommes d'Israël dirent: « Le conseil de Huschaï, l'Architecte, vaut mieux que le conseil d'Achitophel. » Car Yahvé avait décidé de faire échouer le bon conseil d'Achitophel, afin que Yahvé fasse venir le malheur sur Absalom.
15 Hushai spoke to Zadok and Abiathar, the priests, and told them, “Ahithophel has advised Absalom and the Israelite leaders to act in one way, but I have advised them to act in this different way.
Alors Huschaï dit aux sacrificateurs Tsadok et Abiathar: Ahithophel a conseillé à Absalom et aux anciens d'Israël de suivre cette voie, et moi j'ai conseillé de suivre cette voie.
16 So send a message quickly to David and tell him, ‘Don't wait and spend the night at the fords of the wilderness, but cross over immediately or the king and everybody with him will be destroyed.’”
Maintenant, envoie vite dire à David: « Ne passe pas cette nuit aux gués du désert, mais passe absolument, de peur que le roi et tout le peuple qui est avec lui ne soient engloutis ».
17 Jonathan and Ahimaaz were staying at En-rogel because they couldn't be seen entering the city. A servant girl would come and tell them what was happening. Then they would go and let King David know.
Or Jonathan et Ahimaaz logeaient près d'En Rogel; une servante avait l'habitude d'aller leur faire des rapports, et ils allaient en parler au roi David, car ils ne pouvaient pas risquer d'être vus en entrant dans la ville.
18 But a boy did see them and he told Absalom. So the two left immediately and went to the house of a man in the town of Bahurim. He had a well in his courtyard, and they climbed into it.
Mais un garçon les vit et le dit à Absalom. Tous deux s'en allèrent rapidement et arrivèrent à la maison d'un homme de Bahurim, qui avait un puits dans sa cour, et ils y descendirent.
19 His wife took a cloth to cover the well and spread it out over the opening and then scattered grain over it. No one knew the men were there.
La femme prit la couverture et l'étendit sur l'embouchure du puits, et y répandit du grain pilé; et rien ne fut connu.
20 When Absalom's officers arrived they asked the woman, “Where are Ahimaaz and Jonathan?” “They crossed over the stream,” she replied. The men searched for them but didn't find them, so they went back to Jerusalem.
Les serviteurs d'Absalom vinrent trouver la femme à la maison; ils dirent: « Où sont Ahimaats et Jonathan? » La femme leur dit: « Ils sont passés de l'autre côté du ruisseau. » Après avoir cherché et n'avoir pu les trouver, ils retournèrent à Jérusalem.
21 After Absalom's officers left, the two men climbed out of the well and rushed off to give the king their message. “Have everybody get up and cross the river right away, for Ahithophel's advice is to attack you immediately.”
Après leur départ, ils remontèrent du puits et allèrent avertir le roi David; ils lui dirent: « Lève-toi et passe rapidement l'eau, car c'est ainsi qu'Achitophel a conseillé contre toi. »
22 David and everybody with him got up and crossed the Jordan. By the time it got light there wasn't anybody who hadn't crossed over.
Alors David se leva, ainsi que tout le peuple qui était avec lui, et ils passèrent le Jourdain. A la lumière du matin, il ne manquait pas un seul d'entre eux qui n'avait pas passé le Jourdain.
23 When Ahithophel realized that his advice had been ignored, he saddled up his donkey and left for his home in the town where he lived. He put his affairs in order and then he hanged himself. He died and was buried in his father's tomb.
Lorsqu'Ahithophel vit que son conseil n'était pas suivi, il sella son âne, se leva, rentra dans sa ville, remit sa maison en ordre et se pendit; il mourut et fut enterré dans le tombeau de son père.
24 David went on to Mahanaim, and Absalom crossed over the Jordan with the entire Israelite army.
Puis David arriva à Mahanaïm. Absalom passa le Jourdain, lui et tous les hommes d'Israël avec lui.
25 Absalom had put Amasa in charge of the army to replace Joab. Amasa was the son of a man named Ithra, the Ishmaelite who lived with Abigail, the daughter of Nahash and sister of Zeruiah, Joab's mother.
Absalom mit Amasa à la tête de l'armée à la place de Joab. Or Amasa était le fils d'un homme du nom d'Ithra, l'Israélite, qui était entré en relation avec Abigaïl, fille de Nahash, sœur de Tseruja, mère de Joab.
26 The Israelites under Absalom set up camp in the land of Gilead.
Israël et Absalom campèrent dans le pays de Galaad.
27 When David arrived at Mahanaim, he was welcomed by Shobi, son of Nahash, from Rabbah of the Ammonites, Machir, son of Ammiel, from Lo-debar, and Barzillai the Gileadite from Rogelim.
Lorsque David fut arrivé à Mahanaïm, Schobi, fils de Nachasch, de Rabba, des enfants d`Ammon, Makir, fils d`Ammiel, de Lodebar, et Barzillaï, Galaadite, de Rogelim,
28 They brought bedding, bowls, and clay jars, as well as wheat, barley, flour, roasted grain, beans, lentils,
apportèrent des lits, des bassins, des vases de terre, du froment, de l`orge, de la farine, des grains desséchés, des haricots, des lentilles, des grains rôtis,
29 honey, curds, sheep, and cheese made from cow's milk for David and the people with him to eat. For they said, “The people are hungry, tired, and thirsty from their time in the wilderness.”
du miel, du beurre, des brebis et du fromage du troupeau, pour le repas de David et du peuple qui était avec lui; car ils disaient: « Le peuple a faim, il est fatigué et il a soif dans le désert. »
