2 Samuel 15
1 Sometime later, Absalom got himself a chariot with horses, and fifty men as bodyguards to run ahead of him.
Après cela, Absalom se prépara un char et des chevaux, et cinquante hommes pour courir devant lui.
2 He used to get up early and stand by the main road that led to the city gate. When people brought a case to the king for his decision, Absalom would call out and ask them, “What town are you from?” If they replied, “Your servant is from this particular tribe of Israel,”
Absalom se levait de bonne heure, et se tenait sur le chemin de la porte. Lorsqu'un homme avait une affaire à soumettre au roi pour qu'il la juge, Absalom l'appelait et disait: « De quelle ville es-tu? » Il a dit: « Ton serviteur est d'une des tribus d'Israël. »
3 Absalom would tell them, “Look, you're in the right and you've got a good case. It's such a shame there's no one from the king to hear you.”
Absalom lui dit: « Voici, tes affaires sont bonnes et justes; mais il n'y a pas d'homme mandaté par le roi pour t'entendre. »
4 Then he would say, “If only there was someone to appoint me as judge for the country. Then everyone could come to me with their case or complaint, and I would give them justice.”
Absalom dit encore: « Si je pouvais être nommé juge dans le pays, tout homme qui a un procès ou une cause pourrait venir me voir, et je lui rendrais justice! »
5 When anyone came to bow down before him, Absalom would stop them by reaching out his hand, taking hold of him, and kissing him.
Il en était ainsi, et lorsqu'un homme s'approchait pour se prosterner devant lui, il étendait la main, le saisissait et le baisait.
6 This is how Absalom treated all the Israelites who came to the king for his judgment. So he captured the loyalty of the men of Israel.
Absalom fit ainsi à tout Israël qui s'approchait du roi pour le juger. Ainsi Absalom vola le cœur des hommes d'Israël.
7 Four years later Absalom asked the king, “Please let me go to Hebron to fulfill a promise I made to the Lord.
Au bout de quarante ans, Absalom dit au roi: « Laisse-moi, je te prie, aller accomplir à Hébron le vœu que j'ai fait à Yahvé.
8 For I, your servant, made this promise while living at Geshur in Aram, saying: ‘If the Lord does bring me back to Jerusalem, I will worship the Lord in Hebron.’”
Car ton serviteur a fait un vœu pendant mon séjour à Géshur en Syrie, en disant: « Si Yahvé me ramène à Jérusalem, je servirai Yahvé ».
9 “Go in peace,” said the king. So Absalom went to Hebron.
Le roi lui dit: « Va en paix. » Il se leva donc et se rendit à Hébron.
10 Then Absalom sent his accomplices among all the tribes of Israel, saying, “When you hear the sound of the ram's horn, you shout, ‘Absalom is king at Hebron!’”
Mais Absalom envoya des espions dans toutes les tribus d'Israël, en disant: « Dès que vous entendrez le son de la trompette, vous direz: « Absalom est roi à Hébron ».
11 Two hundred men from Jerusalem went with Absalom. They had been invited and went in all innocence, because they didn't know anything about what was planned.
Deux cents hommes, qui avaient été invités, partirent de Jérusalem avec Absalom, et s'en allèrent dans leur simplicité; ils ne savaient rien.
12 While Absalom was offering sacrifices, he sent for Ahithophel the Gilonite, David's advisor, asking him to come from Giloh, the town where he lived. The conspiracy grew stronger, and Absalom's followers went on increasing.
Absalom fit venir de sa ville, de Guilo, Ahithophel, le Gilonite, conseiller de David, pendant qu'il offrait les sacrifices. La conspiration était forte, car le peuple augmentait sans cesse avec Absalom.
13 A messenger came to tell David, “Absalom has the loyalty of the men of Israel.”
Un messager vint dire à David: « Le cœur des hommes d'Israël est après Absalom. »
14 David said to all the officials with him in Jerusalem, “Quick! Let's go! Otherwise we won't be able to get away from Absalom! We must leave immediately, or he will soon catch up with us, attack us, and kill the people here in the city.”
David dit à tous ses serviteurs qui étaient avec lui à Jérusalem: « Levez-vous! Fuyons, sinon aucun de nous n'échappera à Absalom. Dépêchez-vous de partir, de peur qu'il ne nous rattrape rapidement, qu'il ne fasse tomber le malheur sur nous et qu'il ne frappe la ville du tranchant de l'épée. »
15 “Whatever Your Majesty decides, we'll do what you want,” the king's servants replied.
Les serviteurs du roi dirent au roi: « Voici, tes serviteurs sont prêts à faire tout ce que mon seigneur le roi voudra. »
16 The king set off with his whole household following him, but he left behind ten concubines to look after the palace.
Le roi sortit, et toute sa maison après lui. Le roi laissa dix femmes, qui étaient des concubines, pour garder la maison.
17 The king left with all his soldiers following him. He stopped at the last house,
Le roi sortit, et tout le peuple après lui, et ils restèrent à Beth Merhak.
18 and all his men marched past him, including all the Cherethites and Pelethites, and six hundred Gittites who had come with him from Gath.
Tous ses serviteurs passèrent à côté de lui; et tous les Kéréthiens, tous les Péléthiens et tous les Gittiens, six cents hommes qui étaient venus de Gath après lui, passèrent devant le roi.
19 The king said to Ittai the Gittite, “Why are you coming with us too? Go back and stay with the new king, because you are a foreigner and an exile a long way from home.
Alors le roi dit à Ittaï, de Gatha: « Pourquoi pars-tu aussi avec nous? Retourne et reste auprès du roi, car tu es un étranger et un exilé. Retourne dans ton pays.
20 You only just got here, so why should I make you wander around with us now when I don't even know where I am going? Go back and take your men with you. May the Lord show you kindness and faithfulness.”
Puisque tu es venu hier, dois-je aujourd'hui te faire monter et descendre avec nous, puisque je vais où je veux? Retournez-y, et reprenez vos frères. Que la miséricorde et la vérité soient avec vous. »
21 But Ittai answered the king, “As the Lord lives, and as Your Majesty lives, wherever Your Majesty may be, whether dead or alive, that's where your servant will be!”
Ittaï répondit au roi et dit: « L'Éternel est vivant et mon seigneur le roi est vivant. Dans le lieu où se trouve mon seigneur le roi, que ce soit pour la mort ou pour la vie, ton serviteur y sera aussi. »
22 “Go ahead, march on!” David replied. Ittai the Gittite marched past with all his men and all the families that were with him.
David dit à Ittaï: « Va, et passe. » Ittaï, le Gittien, passa, ainsi que tous ses hommes et tous les petits enfants qui étaient avec lui.
23 All the people in the countryside were crying aloud as everyone with David passed by. They crossed the Kidron Valley with the king on the way toward the wilderness.
Tout le pays pleura à haute voix, et tout le peuple passa. Le roi lui-même passa le torrent de Cédron, et tout le peuple passa vers le chemin du désert.
24 Zadok was there too, and all the Levites were with him, carrying the Ark of God's Agreement. They set down the Ark of God, and Abiathar offered sacrifices until everyone had left the city.
Voici que Zadok arriva aussi, et tous les Lévites avec lui, portant l'arche de l'alliance de Dieu; ils déposèrent l'arche de Dieu, et Abiathar monta jusqu'à ce que tout le peuple ait fini de sortir de la ville.
25 Then the king told Zadok, “Take the Ark of God back to the city. If I find the Lord approves of me, he will bring me back and let me see both the Ark and his Tent again.
Le roi dit à Tsadok: « Porte l'arche de Dieu dans la ville. Si je trouve grâce aux yeux de l'Éternel, il me ramènera et me montrera l'arche et sa demeure.
26 But if he says, ‘I'm not happy with you,’ then here I stand. Let him do to me whatever he thinks best.”
Mais s'il dit: « Je ne prends pas plaisir à te voir », me voici. Qu'il fasse de moi ce qui lui semblera bon. »
27 The king also told Zadok the priest, “You understand the situation, don't you? Go back to the city safely with your son Ahimaaz, and also Jonathan, son of Abiathar. You and Abiathar take both of your sons back with you.
Le roi dit aussi au sacrificateur Tsadok: « N'es-tu pas un devin? Retourne en paix dans la ville, et tes deux fils avec toi, Ahimaaz ton fils et Jonathan le fils d'Abiathar.
28 I'll wait at the fords of the wilderness until I hear from you.”
Voici, je vais rester aux gués du désert jusqu'à ce qu'une parole vienne de vous pour m'informer. »
29 Zadok and Abiathar took the Ark of God back to Jerusalem and remained there.
Zadok et Abiathar portèrent de nouveau l'arche de Dieu à Jérusalem, et ils y restèrent.
30 David went on his way up the Mount of Olives, weeping as he did so. He had his head covered, and walked barefoot. All the people with him covered their heads, weeping as they went along.
David monta par la montée du mont des Oliviers, et il pleura en montant; il avait la tête couverte et marchait pieds nus. Tous les gens qui étaient avec lui se couvrirent chacun la tête, et ils montèrent, pleurant en montant.
31 David was told, “Ahithophel is one of the people conspiring with Absalom.” So David prayed, “Lord, please make Ahithophel's advice worthless.”
Quelqu'un a dit à David: « Ahithophel est parmi les conspirateurs d'Absalom. » David a dit: « Yahvé, transforme le conseil d'Ahithophel en folie. »
32 When David arrived at the top of the Mount of Olives, where people worshiped God, there to meet him was Hushai the Archite, with his robe torn and with dust on his head.
Lorsque David fut arrivé au sommet, où l'on se prosternait devant Dieu, voici que Hushaï, l'Architecte, vint à sa rencontre, la tunique déchirée et de la terre sur la tête.
33 David told him, “If you come with me, you'll only be a burden to me,
David lui dit: « Si tu passes avec moi, tu seras pour moi un fardeau.
34 but if you go back to the city and tell Absalom, ‘I will be your servant, Your Majesty! Formerly I worked for your father, but now I'll work for you,’ then you can block Ahithophel's advice for me.
Mais si tu retournes à la ville et que tu dises à Absalom: « Je serai ton serviteur, ô roi. Comme j'ai été autrefois le serviteur de ton père, je serai maintenant ton serviteur; alors tu rejetteras pour moi le conseil d'Ahithophel.
35 Zadok and Abiathar, the priests, will be there too. Tell them everything you hear in the king's palace.
N'as-tu pas avec toi les prêtres Zadok et Abiathar? Tout ce que tu entendras de la maison du roi, tu le diras aux prêtres Zadok et Abiathar.
36 Their two sons, Ahimaaz and Jonathan, are there with them. Send them to me so they can tell me everything you hear.”
Voici qu'ils ont là avec eux leurs deux fils, Ahimaaz, fils de Tsadok, et Jonathan, fils d'Abiathar. Envoyez-moi tout ce que vous entendrez d'eux. »
37 David's friend Hushai arrived back in Jerusalem at the same time Absalom was entering the city.
Hushai, l'ami de David, arriva dans la ville; et Absalom arriva à Jérusalem.
