2 Samuel 13

1 David's son Absalom had a beautiful sister named Tamar, and another of David's sons, Amnon, fell in love with her.

Et après cela il arriva que Absalom, fils de David, avait une sœur qui était belle, nommée Thamar, et que Amnon, fils de David, s'éprit d'elle.

2 Amnon became so infatuated with his sister Tamar that he felt sick. She was a virgin, and Amnon saw it was impossible for him to have her.

Et Amnon se tourmentait pour Thamar, sa sœur, à se rendre malade; car elle était vierge et il voyait la difficulté de rien entreprendre sur elle.

3 However, Amnon had a friend named Jonadab, and he was the son of David's brother Shimeah. Jonadab was a very cunning man.

Or Amnon avait un ami, nommé Jonadab, fils de Siméa, frère de David, et Jonadab était un homme fort avisé.

4 He asked Amnon, “Why are you, the king's son, so down every morning? Why don't you tell me what's wrong?” “I'm in love with Tamar, my brother Absalom's sister,” Amnon replied.

Et il lui dit: Pourquoi es-tu ainsi défait, toi, fils du Roi, un matin comme l'autre? ne me feras -tu pas confidence? Et Amnon lui dit: J'aime Thamar, sœur d'Absalom, mon frère.

5 “Lie down on your bed and pretend you're sick,” Jonadab told him. “When your father comes to see you, tell him, ‘Please have my sister Tamar come and give me some food to eat. She can make it as I watch and she can hand it to me.’”

Et Jonadab lui dit: Mets-toi au lit et fais le malade, et si ton père vient te voir, dis-lui: Permets à Thamar, ma sœur, de venir pour me donner à manger et préparer la collation sous mes yeux, afin que je voie et que je reçoive les aliments de sa main.

6 So Amnon lay down and pretended to be sick. When the king came to see him, Amnon asked him, “Please have my sister Tamar come and make a couple of pancakes as I watch, and she can hand them to me to eat.”

Amnon se mit donc au lit et fit le malade, et le Roi vint le voir, et Amnon dit au Roi: Permets à Thamar, ma sœur, de venir pour préparer sous mes yeux deux gâteaux que je prendrai de sa main.

7 Then David sent a message to Tamar at the palace: “Please be so kind as to go to the house of your brother Amnon and make him some food.”

Et David fit dire à Thamar dans son appartement: Va donc chez ton frère Amnon et prépare-lui la collation.

8 So Tamar went to the house of her brother Amnon to where he was lying down. She took some dough, kneaded it, and cooked the pancakes as he watched.

Et Thamar se rendit chez Amnon, son frère, lequel était alité. Et elle prit du levain, et pétrit et prépara sous ses yeux les gâteaux, qu'elle fit cuire;

9 Then she took the pan and emptied it out before him, but he refused to eat. “Everybody leave me!” Amnon shouted. Everyone left.

puis, prenant la poêle, elle les versa devant lui. Mais il refusa de manger. Et Amnon dit: Faites sortir tout le monde d'ici! Et tout le monde sortit de chez lui.

10 Then Amnon said to Tamar, “Bring the food here into my bedroom so you can hand it to me to eat.” So Tamar took the pancakes she had made to her brother Amnon in his bedroom.

Alors Amnon dit à Thamar: Apporte la collation dans l'appartement afin que je la reçoive de ta main. Et Thamar prit les gâteaux qu'elle avait préparés et les apporta à Amnon, son frère, dans l'appartement.

11 But as she handed him the food, he grabbed hold of her, and said, “Come to bed with me, my sister!”

Et comme elle lui servait à manger, il la saisit et lui dit: Viens, couche avec moi, ma sœur.

12 “No, you're my brother!” she exclaimed. “Don't rape me! That's not what we do in Israel! Don't do something so shameful!

Et elle lui dit: Non, mon frère, non! n'abuse pas de moi! car on ne fait pas ainsi en Israël; ne commets pas cette infamie.

13 Stop and think about me! How could I bear such a disgrace? Think about yourself too! You'd be treated with contempt as a complete fool in Israel! Please talk with the king, for he won't stop you marrying me.”

Et moi, où irais-je porter ma honte? et toi, tu serais comme l'un des infâmes en Israël. Maintenant parle donc au Roi! Il ne me refusera pas à toi.

14 But Amnon wouldn't to listen to her, and because he was stronger than she was, he raped her.

Mais il ne voulut pas écouter sa sœur, et il lui fit violence et abusa d'elle et habita avec elle.

15 Then Amnon hated Tamar with immense hatred. His hatred was so strong that it was greater than the love he'd had before. “Get up! Get lost!” he told her.

Et Amnon la prit en forte aversion; car l'aversion qu'il conçut contre elle fut plus grande que l'amour dont il avait été épris pour elle.

16 “No! Don't do this!” she answered. “Sending me away in disgrace would be an even greater evil than what you've already done to me.” But he wouldn't listen to her.

Et Amnon lui dit: Lève-toi! va-t'en! Et elle lui dit: A tes torts tu ajoutes en me chassant un mal plus grand que l'autre que tu m'as fait!

17 He called for his servant and said, “Get rid of this woman and lock the door behind her!”

Mais il ne voulut pas l'écouter. Et il appela le valet qui le servait et lui dit: Chasse donc cette femme d'ici dans la rue, et ferme la porte au verrou après elle.

18 So his servant threw her out and locked the door behind her. Tamar was wearing the long robe of a princess, which is what the king's virgin daughters wore.

Or elle portait une tunique à manches; car c'était avec la mante le vêtement porté par les filles du Roi, vierges. Et le valet la mit dehors à la rue et ferma la porte au verrou après elle.

19 Tamar put ashes on her head and tore her long robe. She put her hands on her head, she went away crying loudly.

Alors Thamar mit de la cendre sur sa tête et déchira la tunique à manches qu'elle portait, et la main appliquée sur la tête, elle s'en alla, et elle marchait en poussant des cris.

20 Her brother Absalom found her and asked, “Has brother Amnon been with you? Keep quiet for the moment, my sister. He's your brother. Don't be so upset about it.” So Tamar lived as a ruined and abandoned woman in her brother Absalom's home.

Et Absalom, son frère, lui dit: Amnon, ton frère, a-t-il été avec toi? A présent, ma sœur, ne dis mot! c'est ton frère; ne laisse pas peser sur ton cœur ce qui est arrivé. Et Thamar demeura, éperdue qu'elle était, dans la maison d'Absalom, son frère.

21 When King David heard about it, he was very angry.

Et David apprit toutes ces choses et fut fort irrité.

22 Absalom didn't talk to Amnon at all because he hated Amnon for raping his sister Tamar.

Et Absalom n'adressait point la parole à Amnon, ni en bien ni en mal, car Absalom haïssait Amnon, parce qu'il avait abusé de Thamar, sa sœur.

23 Some two years later, when his sheepshearers were at Baal-hazor near Ephraim, Absalom invited all the king's sons to join the celebrations.

Et au bout de deux ans environ, comme Absalom avait des tondeurs à Bahal-Hatsor, située près d'Ephraïm, Absalom convia tous les fils du Roi.

24 He went to the king and said, “I, your servant, have hired shearers. Would the king and his servants please join me?”

Et Absalom entra chez le Roi et dit: Voici, ton serviteur a des tondeurs: que le Roi daigne avec ses serviteurs accompagner ton serviteur.

25 “No, my son,” the king replied, “we can't all go. We would be a burden to you.” Even though Absalom went on asking, he was not willing to go, but he did give Absalom his blessing.

Et le Roi dit à Absalom: Hé! non, mon fils, nous n'irons pas tous, pour ne point t'être à charge. Et il insista, mais David ne voulut point aller, et il le congédia.

26 “Well then, at least let my brother Amnon join us,” Absalom responded. “Why do you want him to go?” the king asked.

Et Absalom dit: Mais du moins Amnon, mon frère, ne sera-t-il pas des nôtres? Et le Roi dit: Pourquoi irait-il avec toi?

27 But Absalom kept on asking, so the king sent Amnon and his other sons.

Mais Absalom insista auprès de lui, et David accorda permission de l'accompagner à Amnon et à tous les fils du Roi.

28 Absalom gave orders to his men, saying, “Pay attention! When Amnon is feeling happy from drinking wine and I tell you, ‘Attack Amnon!’ then kill him. Don't be afraid. I myself am giving you this order. Be strong and be brave.”

Et Absalom donna cet ordre à ses valets: Observez le moment où le vin aura égayé le cœur d'Amnon, alors à mon commandement: « Frappez Amnon! » tuez-le! n'ayez pas peur! n'est-ce pas moi qui vous l'ordonne? courage et soyez des braves!

29 So Absalom's men did what Absalom had ordered and killed Amnon. Then all the rest of the king's sons jumped up, got on their mules, and ran away.

Et les valets d'Absalom exécutèrent sur Amnon l'ordre d'Absalom. Sur cela tous les fils du Roi se levèrent, et montant chacun son mulet, ils s'enfuirent.

30 While they were on their way back, David received a message, “Absalom has killed all the king's sons—there's not a single one left!”

Et comme ils étaient en chemin, la nouvelle parvint à David à qui l'on dit: Absalom a fait main basse sur tous les fils du Roi, et pas un n'a survécu.

31 The king stood up, tore his clothes, and lay down on the ground. All his officials stood beside him with their clothes torn.

Là-dessus le Roi se leva et déchira ses habits et il se coucha par terre et tous ses serviteurs assistaient, les habits déchirés.

32 But Jonadab, son of David's brother Shimeah, told them: “Your Majesty must not think they have killed all the king's sons—only Amnon is dead. Absalom has been planning ever since the day Amnon raped his sister Tamar.

Alors Jonadab, fils de Siméa, frère de David, prit la parole et dit: Que mon Seigneur n'ait pas cette idée: on a mis à mort tous les jeunes hommes, fils du Roi! puisque Amnon seul a péri; car à l'air d'Absalom, c'était pour lui parti pris dès le jour où il a abusé de Thamar, sa sœur.

33 So, Your Majesty, please don't believe the report that all the king's sons are dead. Only Amnon is dead.”

Ainsi, que mon Seigneur le Roi n'ait pas la chose sur le cœur avec cette idée: tous les fils du Roi sont morts! car Amnon seul est mort.

34 In the meantime, Absalom had run away. When the watchman in Jerusalem looked out, he saw a large crowd coming along the road west of him, down the side of the hill.

Et Absalom avait pris la fuite. Et le valet qui était en vedette leva les yeux et regarda, et voilà que par la route qu'il avait derrière lui, une grande troupe arrivait du versant de la montagne.

35 Jonadab told the king, “Can you see? The king's sons are arriving! It's exactly as your servant said.”

Alors Jonadab dit au Roi: Voilà que les fils du Roi arrivent! les choses se sont passées comme ton serviteur l'a dit.

36 As he finished speaking, the king's sons came in, crying and wailing. Then the king and all his officials also cried loudly.

Et quand il achevait de parler, voici, arrivèrent les fils du Roi; et laissant éclater leur voix ils pleurèrent, et le Roi aussi et tous ses serviteurs versèrent beaucoup de larmes.

37 Absalom ran away to Talmai, son of Ammihud, the king of Geshur. Every day David mourned for his son Amnon.

Or Absalom dans sa fuite s'était rendu chez Thalmaï, fils de Ammihur, roi de Gesur. Et David était toujours en deuil de son fils.

38 After Absalom had run away to Geshur, he remained there for three years.

Absalom avait donc fui, et gagné Gesur où il séjourna trois ans.

39 King David longed to go and see Absalom, for he had finished grieving over the death of Amnon.

Et le Roi David cessa de rien entreprendre contre Absalom, car il s'était consolé de la mort d'Amnon.
