2 Kings 1
1 After Ahab died, Moab rebelled against Israel.
Or, après la mort d’Achab, Moab se révolta contre Israël.
2 Ahaziah had fallen through the lattice-work of his upper room in Samaria and had hurt himself badly. So he sent out messengers, telling them: “Go and ask Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron, whether I will get better from this injury.”
Et Ochozias tomba par la fenêtre de sa chambre haute qu’il avait à Samarie, et il fut malade, et il envoya des messagers, leur disant: Allez, consultez Béelzébub, le dieu d’Accaron, pour savoir si je pourrai réchapper de cette maladie.
3 But the angel of the Lord told Elijah the Tishbite, “Go and meet the messengers of the king of Samaria and ask them, ‘Is it because there's no God in Israel that you're going to ask advice from Baal-Zebub, the god of Ekron?’
Mais un ange du Seigneur parla à Élie, le Thesbite, disant: Lève-toi, et monte à la rencontre des messagers du roi de Samarie, et tu leurs diras: Est-ce qu’il n’y a pas un Dieu dans Israël, pour que vous alliez consulter Béelzébub, le dieu d’Accaron?
4 So this is the Lord's answer: ‘You will not leave the bed on which you are lying. You're definitely going to die.’” And Elijah left.
C’est pourquoi voici ce que dit le Seigneur: Tu ne descendras point du lit sur lequel tu es monté; mais tu mourras de mort. Et Élie s’en alla.
5 The messengers returned to the king, and he asked them, “Why have you come back?”
Et les messagers revinrent vers Ochozias. Il leur dit: Pourquoi êtes-vous revenus?
6 “A man came and met us,” they replied. “He told us, ‘Go back to the king who sent you, and tell him, This is what the Lord says: Is it because there is no God in Israel that you are sending to ask advice from Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron? As a result you will not leave the bed on which you are lying. You're definitely going to die.’”
Mais eux lui répondirent: Un homme est venu à notre rencontre, et nous a dit: Allez, et retournez vers le roi qui vous a envoyés, et vous lui direz: Voici ce que dit le Seigneur: Est-ce parce qu’il n’y a pas un Dieu dans Israël, que tu envoies pour que soit consulté Béelzébub, le dieu d’Accaron? C’est pourquoi tu ne descendras point du lit sur lequel tu es monté; mais tu mourras de mort.
7 “What was he like, this man who met you and told you all this?” the king asked.
Le roi leur demanda: Quelle figure et quel vêtement a cet homme qui est venu à votre rencontre, et qui vous a dit ces paroles?
8 “He was a hairy man wearing a leather belt around his waist,” they replied. “It's Elijah the Tishbite,” said the king.
Et ceux-ci lui répondirent: C’est un homme couvert de poil, et ceint sur les reins d’une ceinture de peau. Le roi dit: C’est Élie, le Thesbite.
9 Then the king sent an army captain with fifty men to Elijah. The captain went up to Elijah, who was sitting on the top of a hill, and told him, “Man of God, the king orders you, ‘Come down!’”
Et il envoya vers lui un chef de cinquante soldats, et les cinquante soldats qui étaient sous lui. Ce chef monta vers Élie, et il lui dit pendant qu’il était sur le sommet de la montagne: Homme de Dieu, le roi commande que vous descendiez.
10 Elijah replied to the captain, “If I am a man of God, then let fire fall from heaven and burn up you and your fifty men.” Fire fell from heaven and burned up the captain and his men.
Et répondant, Élie dit au chef des cinquante soldats: Si je suis homme de Dieu, qu’il descende un feu du ciel, et qu’il te dévore, toi et tes cinquante. C’est pourquoi il descendit un feu du ciel, et il le dévora, lui et les cinquante qui étaient avec lui.
11 So the king sent another captain with his fifty men to Elijah. The captain said to Elijah, “Man of God, the king orders you, Come down immediately!”
Et de nouveau le roi lui envoya un autre chef de cinquante soldats, et cinquante soldats avec lui. Celui-ci dit à Élie: Homme de Dieu, voici ce que dit le roi: Hâte-toi, descends.
12 Elijah replied to the captain, “If I am a man of God, then let fire fall from heaven and burn up you and your fifty men.” Fire fell from heaven and burned up the captain and his men.
Et répondant, Élie dit: Si moi je suis homme de Dieu, qu’il descende un feu du ciel, et qu’il te dévore, toi et tes cinquante. Il descendit donc un feu du ciel, et il le dévora, lui et ses cinquante.
13 So the king sent a third captain with his fifty men. The third captain went up, kneeled before Elijah, and pleaded with him, “Man of God, please value my life and the lives of these fifty men.
Il envoya encore un troisième chef de cinquante soldats, et les cinquante soldats qui étaient avec lui. Celui-ci, étant venu devant Élie, fléchit les genoux, l’implora, et dit: Homme de Dieu, ne dédaignez point mon âme et les âmes de vos serviteurs qui sont avec moi.
14 Yes, fire has fallen from heaven and burned up the first two captains of fifty, along with all their men. But now please value my life!”
Voilà qu’il est descendu un feu du ciel, et il a dévoré les deux premiers chefs de cinquante soldats et les cinquante soldats qui étaient avec chacun d’eux; mais maintenant je vous conjure d’avoir pitié de mon âme.
15 Then the angel of the Lord told Elijah, “Go down with him. You don't have to be afraid of him.” So Elijah got up and went down with him to the king.
Or l’ange du Seigneur parla à Élie, disant: Descends avec lui, ne crains point. Il se leva donc, et descendit avec lui vers le roi,
16 Elijah told the king, “This is what the Lord says: ‘Is it because there's no God in Israel for you to consult that you have sent messengers to ask advice of Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron? As a result you will not leave the bed on which you are lying. You're definitely going to die.”
Et il lui dit: Voici ce que dit le Seigneur: Parce que tu as envoyé des messagers pour consulter Béelzébub, le dieu d’Accaron, comme s’il n’y avait pas un Dieu dans Israël que tu pusses consulter, tu ne te lèveras point du lit sur lequel tu es monté, mais tu mourras de mort.
17 Ahaziah died just as the Lord had said through Elijah. Because he had no son, Joram succeeded him as king in the second year of the reign of Jehoram, son of Jehoshaphat, king of Judah.
Il mourut donc, selon la parole du Seigneur qu’avait dite Élie. Et Joram, son frère, régna en sa place, la seconde année de Joram, fils de Josaphat, roi de Juda: car Ochozias n’avait point de fils.
18 The rest of what happened in Ahaziah's reign and what he did are recorded in the Book of Chronicles of the Kings of Israel.
Mais le reste des actions qu’Ochozias a faites, n’est-il pas écrit dans le Livre des actions des jours des rois d’Israël?
