2 Kings 2
1 Just before the Lord took Elijah up to heaven in a whirlwind, Elijah and Elisha were walking together on their way from Gilgal.
Or il arriva, lorsque le Seigneur voulut enlever Élie au ciel dans le tourbillon, qu’Élie et Élisée sortaient de Galgala.
2 Elijah said to Elisha, “Please stay here, for the Lord has sent me to Bethel.” But Elisha replied, “As the Lord lives, and as you yourself live, I will not leave you.” So they went to Bethel.
Et Élie dit à Élisée: Demeure ici, parce que le Seigneur m’a envoyé jusqu’à Béthel. Élisée lui répondit: Le Seigneur vit, et votre âme vit! je ne vous abandonnerai pas. Ils allèrent donc à Béthel,
3 The sons of the prophets who lived in Bethel came to Elisha and told him, “You do know that the Lord is going to take your master away from you today, don't you?” “Yes, I know,” he replied. “Don't talk about it.”
Et les enfants des prophètes qui étaient à Béthel sortirent vers Élisée, et lui dirent: Ne sais-tu pas qu’aujourd’hui le Seigneur t’enlèvera ton maître? Élisée répondit: Je le sais; gardez le silence.
4 Then Elijah said to him, “Please stay here, Elisha, for the Lord has sent me to Jericho.” He replied, “As the Lord lives, and as you live, I will not leave you.” So they went to Jericho.
Élie dit encore à Élisée: Demeure ici, parce que le Seigneur m’a envoyé à Jéricho. Et celui-ci répondit: Le Seigneur vit et votre âme vit! je ne vous abandonnerai pas. Or lorsqu’ils furent arrivés à Jéricho,
5 The sons of the prophets who lived in Jericho came to Elisha and told him, “You do know that the Lord is going to take your master away from you today, don't you?” “Yes, I know,” he replied. “Don't talk about it.”
Les fils des prophètes qui étaient à Jéricho s’approchèrent d’Élisée, et lui dirent: Ne sais-tu pas que le Seigneur aujourd’hui t’enlèvera ton maître? Il leur répondit: Je le sais; gardez le silence.
6 Then Elijah said to him, “Please stay here, Elisha, for the Lord has sent me to the Jordan.” He replied, “As the Lord lives, and as you live, I will not leave you.” So they travelled on together.
Mais Élie dit à Élisée: Demeure ici, parce que le Seigneur m’a envoyé jusqu’au Jourdain. Élisée lui répondit: Le Seigneur vit et votre âme vit! je ne vous abandonnerai point. Ils allèrent donc tous deux ensemble,
7 Then a group of fifty of the sons of the prophets went and stood facing Elijah and Elisha at a distance as the two of them stood by the Jordan.
Et cinquante hommes des fils des prophètes les suivirent, lesquels s’arrêtèrent vis-à-vis d’eux au loin; mais eux étaient tous deux debout sur le Jourdain.
8 Elijah took his cloak, rolled it up, and hit the water. It divided to the one side and to the other and both of them crossed over on dry ground.
Alors Élie prit son manteau et le plia, et frappa les eaux, qui se divisèrent d’un côté et de l’autre, et ils passèrent tous deux à sec.
9 When they arrived on the other side, Elijah asked Elisha, “What can I do for you before I'm taken from you?” “Please let me have a double amount of your spirit,” Elisha replied.
Et lorsqu’ils eurent passé, Élie dit à Élisée: Demande-moi ce que tu veux que je fasse pour toi, avant que je sois enlevé d’auprès de toi. Et Élisée dit: Je demande avec instance que votre double esprit passe en moi.
10 “What you have asked for is hard,” Elijah responded. “But if you see me when I am taken from you, you will have it, otherwise not.”
Élie répondit: C’est une chose difficile que tu m’as demandée. Cependant, si tu me vois lorsque je serai enlevé d’auprès de toi, tu auras ce que tu as demandé; mais, si tu ne me vois pas, tu ne l’auras point.
11 As they were walking along, talking, a chariot of fire and horses of fire came between them, and Elijah was taken up in the whirlwind to heaven.
Et. lorsqu’ils poursuivaient leur chemin, et que marchant, ils s’entretenaient, voilà un char de feu et des chevaux de feu qui les séparèrent l’un de l’autre; et Élie monta au ciel dans le tourbillon.
12 Elisha saw what happened and cried out, “My father! My father! Look! The chariots and horsemen of Israel!” Then Elisha couldn't see him anymore. He took his clothes and ripped them to pieces.
Or Élisée le voyait et criait: Mon père, mon père, vous le char d’Israël et son conducteur. Après cela il ne le vit plus; et il prit ses vêtements et les déchira en deux parts.
13 Then Elisha picked up Elijah's cloak that had fallen from him, and went back and stood on the bank of the Jordan.
Et il ramassa le manteau d’Élie qui était tombé pour lui; et revenu, il s’arrêta sur la rive du Jourdain,
14 He took Elijah's cloak that had fallen from him, hit the water, and cried out, “Where is the Lord, the God of Elijah?” When he hit the water, it divided to the one side and to the other and Elisha crossed over.
Et avec le manteau d’Élie qui était tombé pour lui, il frappa les eaux, et elles ne furent point divisées. Alors il dit: Où est le Dieu d’Élie maintenant? Et il frappa les eaux, et elles se partagèrent d’un côté et de l’autre, et Élisée passa.
15 The sons of the prophets who lived in Jericho saw him from the opposite side and shouted out, “Elijah's spirit now rests upon Elisha!” They went over to meet him, and bowed to the ground before him.
Voyant cela, les fils des prophètes qui étaient à Jéricho, vis-à-vis, dirent: L’esprit d’Élie s’est reposé sur Élisée. Et, venant à sa rencontre, ils se prosternèrent, inclinés vers la terre,
16 “Look,” they said to Elisha, “we your servants have fifty good men here. Please allow them to go and search for your master. Maybe the Spirit of the Lord has taken him and put him down on a mountain or in a valley somewhere.” “Don't bother sending them,” Elisha replied.
Et ils lui dirent: Voilà qu’avec tes serviteurs sont cinquante hommes forts qui peuvent aller et chercher ton maître: car peut-être que l’Esprit du Seigneur l’aura enlevé et jeté quelque part sur une des montagnes ou dans une des vallées. Élisée répondit: N’envoyez point.
17 But they went on trying to persuade him until he was too embarrassed to say no. “Go ahead and send them,” he told them. So they sent fifty men, who searched for Elijah for three days but couldn't find him.
Mais ils le pressèrent jusqu’à ce qu’il consentit et qu’il dît: Envoyez. Ils envoyèrent donc cinquante hommes, qui, l’ayant cherché pendant trois jours, ne le trouvèrent point.
18 When they returned to Elisha, who was staying in Jericho, he said to them, “Didn't I tell you not to bother going?”
Et ils revinrent vers Élisée, qui habitait à Jéricho, et il leur dit: Ne vous avais-je pas dit: N’envoyez point?
19 The townspeople said to Elisha, “Look, sir, while our town has a good location as you can see, the water is bad and the soil is poor.”
Les hommes de la ville dirent aussi à Élisée: Voilà que l’habitation de cette ville est excellente, comme vous-même, seigneur, le voyez; mais les eaux sont très mauvaises, et la terre stérile.
20 “Bring me a brand new bowl and put some salt in it,” he replied. So they brought it to him.
Et Élisée répondit: Apportez-moi un vase neuf, et mettez-y du sel. Lorsqu’ils l’eurent apporté,
21 Then Elisha went to the spring, threw the salt into it, and said, “This is what the Lord says: ‘I have purified this water. It won't cause death or miscarriages anymore.’”
Etant sorti vers la fontaine, il jeta le sel dans l’eau, et dit: Voici ce que dit le Seigneur: J’ai rendu ces eaux saines, et il n’y aura plus en elles de mort ni de stérilité.
22 The water there is still pure to this very day, just as Elisha said it would be.
Ces eaux donc ont été saines jusqu’à ce jour, selon la parole qu’Élisée dit.
23 Elisha went on from there to Bethel. As he was walking along the road, a group of youths came from the town. They made fun of him, calling out, “Go on up, baldy! Go on up, baldy!”
Or il monta de là à Béthel; et, lorsqu’il montait par la voie, de petits enfants sortirent de la ville et le raillaient, disant: Monte, chauve; monte, chauve.
24 Turning around, he looked at them and called down a curse on them in the Lord's name. Suddenly two female bears came out of the forest and mauled forty-two of them.
Lorsqu’Élisée eut regardé, il les vit, et les maudit au nom du Seigneur; et deux ours sortirent du bois, et déchirèrent quarante-deux de ces enfants.
25 Elisha carried on to Mount Carmel, and from there he went back to Samaria.
Élisée s’en alla ensuite sur la montagne du Carmel, et de là il revint à Samarie.
