2 Kings 18

1 Hezekiah, son of Ahaz, became king of Judah in the third year of the reign of Hoshea, son of Elah, king of Israel.

इस्राएल के राजा एलाह के पुत्र होशिया के शासन के तीसरे साल में आहाज़ के पुत्र हिज़किय्याह ने यहूदिया पर शासन करना शुरू किया.

2 He was twenty-five when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem for twenty-nine years. His mother's name was Abi, daughter of Zechariah.

जब हिज़किय्याह राजा बना, उसकी उम्र पच्चीस साल थी. येरूशलेम में उसने उनतीस साल शासन किया. उसकी माता का नाम अबीयाह था, वह ज़करयाह की पुत्री थी.

3 He did what was right in the Lord's sight, following all that his forefather David had done.

उसने वही किया, जो याहवेह की दृष्टि में सही था, वैसा ही, जैसा उसके पूर्वज दावीद ने किया था.

4 He removed the high places, smashed the stone idols, and cut down the Asherah poles. He ground to pieces the bronze snake Moses had made, because up to then the Israelites had been sacrificing offerings to it. It was called Nehushtan.

उसने पूजा की जगह हटा दीं, पूजा के खंभे तोड़ दिए और अशेराह के खंभे भी ध्वस्त कर दिए. उसने मोशेह द्वारा बनाई उस कांसे के सांप की मूर्ति को भी नष्ट कर दिया, क्योंकि तब तक इस्राएली प्रजा इसे नेहूष्तान नाम से पुकारते हुए इसके सामने धूप जलाने लगे थे.

5 Hezekiah put his trust in the Lord, the God of Israel. Among the kings of Judah there was no one like him, neither before him nor after him.

हिज़किय्याह का भरोसा याहवेह, इस्राएल के परमेश्वर पर था, इसलिये न उसके बाद और न ही उसके पहले यहूदिया के सारी राजाओं में उसके समान कोई हुआ.

6 He stayed faithful to the Lord and did not give up following him. He kept the commandments that the Lord had given Moses.

वह याहवेह से चिपका रहा. कभी भी उसने याहवेह का अनुसरण करना न छोड़ा. वह मोशेह को सौंपे गए याहवेह के आदेशों का पालन करता रहा.

7 The Lord was with him; he was successful in everything he did. He defied the king of Assyria and refused to submit to him.

वह जहां कहीं गया, याहवेह उसके साथ रहे. वह उन्‍नत ही होता चला गया. उसने अश्शूर के राजा के विरुद्ध विद्रोह कर दिया, और उससे अपना दासत्व खत्म कर लिया.

8 He defeated the Philistines all the way to Gaza and the surrounding area, from watchtower to fortified town.

उसने अज्जाह की सीमा तक फिलिस्तीनियों को हरा दिया, यानी पहरेदारों की मचान से लेकर नगर गढ़ तक.

9 In the fourth year of Hezekiah's reign, equivalent to the seventh year of the reign of Hoshea, son of Elah, king of Israel, Shalmaneser, king of Assyria, attacked Samaria, besieging it.

हिज़किय्याह के शासन के चौथे साल में, जो इस्राएल के राजा एलाह के पुत्र होशिया के शासन का सातवां साल था, अश्शूर के राजा शालमानेसर ने शमरिया पर घेरा डाल दिया.

10 The Assyrians conquered it after three years. This was during the sixth year of Hezekiah, equivalent to the ninth year of Hoshea, king of Israel.

और तीन साल पूरा होते-होते उन्होंने शमरिया को अपने अधिकार में ले लिया. हिज़किय्याह के शासन का छठवां और इस्राएल के राजा होशिया के शासन का नवां साल था, जब शमरिया पर अश्शूर के राजा का अधिकार हो गया.

11 The king of Assyria deported the Israelites to Assyria. He settled them in Halah, in Gozan on the Habor River, and in the towns of the Medes.

अश्शूर का राजा इस्राएलियों को बंदी बनाकर अश्शूर देश को ले गया. वहां उसने उन्हें गोज़ान नदी के तट पर हालाह और हाबोर नामक स्थानों में और मेदिया प्रदेश के नगरों में बसा दिया,

12 This happened because they refused to listen to the Lord their God and broke his agreement—all that Moses, the Lord's servant, had commanded. They refused to listen and did not obey.

क्योंकि उन्होंने याहवेह, अपने परमेश्वर की वाणी को अनसुनी ही नहीं की, बल्कि उन्होंने उनकी वाचा भी तोड़ दी थी, यहां तक कि उन सारी आदेशों को भी, जो याहवेह के सेवक मोशेह ने दिए थे. न तो उन्होंने इन्हें सुना और न ही उनका पालन किया.

13 Sennacherib, king of Assyria, attacked and conquered all the fortified towns of Judah in the fourteenth year of the reign of Hezekiah.

राजा हिज़किय्याह के शासनकाल के चौदहवें वर्ष में अश्शूर के राजा सेनहेरीब ने यहूदिया के समस्त गढ़ नगरों पर आक्रमण करके उन पर अधिकार कर लिया.

14 So Hezekiah, king of Judah, sent a message to the king of Assyria who was at Lachish, saying, “I've made a terrible mistake! Please retreat and leave me alone, and I'll pay you whatever you want!” The king of Assyria demanded Hezekiah, king of Judah, pay three hundred talents of silver and thirty talents of gold.

यहूदिया के राजा हिज़किय्याह ने लाकीश नगर में अश्शूर के राजा को यह संदेश भेजा, “मुझसे गलती हुई है. अपनी सेना यहां से हटा लीजिए. आप मुझ पर जो भी आर्थिक दंड देंगे मैं उसे पूरा करूंगा!” तब अश्शूर के राजा ने यहूदिया के राजा हिज़किय्याह से दस टन चांदी और एक टन सोने का दंड तय कर दिया.

15 Hezekiah paid him using all the silver from the Lord's Temple and the treasuries of the royal palace.

तब राजा हिज़किय्याह ने याहवेह के भवन और राजघराने के खजाने में रखी पूरी चांदी अश्शूर के राजा को सौंप दी.

16 He even stripped the gold he had used to overlay the doors and doorposts of the Lord's Temple and gave everything to the king of Assyria.

इसी समय हिज़किय्याह ने याहवेह के मंदिर के दरवाजों पर मढ़ी गई सोने की परत उतार ली और वैसे ही दरवाजों के मीनारों की भी, जो यहूदिया के राजा हिज़किय्याह द्वारा ही दरवाजों और दरवाजों के मीनारों पर चढ़ाई गई थी. यह उसने अश्शूर के राजा को सौंप दिया.

17 Even so, the king of Assyria sent his commander in chief, his head officer, and his army general, along with a large army, from Lachish to King Hezekiah at Jerusalem. They approached Jerusalem and made camp beside the aqueduct of the upper pool, on the road to where laundry is washed.

इस पर अश्शूर के राजा ने लाकीश से राजा हिज़किय्याह के पास अपने सर्वोच्च सेनापति, अपने मुख्य अधिकारी और अपने प्रमुख सेनापति को एक बड़ी सेना के साथ येरूशलेम भेज दिया. येरूशलेम पहुंचकर वे उस ऊपरी तालाब की नाली पर जा खड़े हुए, जो सदह-कोबेस के राजमार्ग पर बनी है.

18 They called for the king. Eliakim, son of Hilkiah, the palace manager, Shebnah the scribe, and Joah, son of Asaph, the record-keeper, went out to speak with them.

जब उन्होंने राजा को पुकारा, तब गृह प्रबंधक एलियाकिम, जो हिलकियाह का पुत्र था, शास्त्री शेबना तथा आसफ का पुत्र योआह, जो प्रालेख अधिकारी था, राजा से भेंट करने गए.

19 The Assyrian army general said to them, “Tell Hezekiah this is what the great king, the king of Assyria, says: What are you trusting in that gives you such confidence?

प्रमुख सेनापति ने उन्हें आदेश दिया, “हिज़किय्याह से जाकर यह कहो, “‘पराक्रमी राजा, अश्शूर के राजा का संदेश यह है: कौन है तुम्हारे इस भरोसे का आधार?

20 You say you have a strategy and are ready for war, but these are empty words. Who are you relying on, now that you have rebelled against me?

युद्ध से संबंधित तुम्हारी रणनीति तथा तुम्हारी शक्ति मात्र खोखले शब्द हैं. किस पर है तुम्हारा अवलंबन कि तुमने मुझसे विद्रोह का साहस किया है?

21 Now look! You're trusting in Egypt, a walking stick that's like a broken reed that will cut the hand of anyone leaning on it. That's what Pharaoh, king of Egypt, is like to everyone who trusts in him.

देखो, तुमने जो मिस्र देश पर भरोसा किया है, वह है ही क्या, एक टूटा हुआ सरकंडे की छड़ी! यदि कोई व्यक्ति इसकी टेक लेना चाहे तो यह छड़ी उसके हाथ में ही चुभ जाएगी. मिस्र का राजा फ़रोह भी उन सबके लिए ऐसा ही साबित होता है, जो उस पर भरोसा करते हैं.

22 If you tell me, ‘We're trusting in the Lord our God,’ well didn't Hezekiah remove his high places and his altars, telling Judah and Jerusalem: ‘You have to worship at this altar in Jerusalem’?

हां, यदि तुम मुझसे कहो, “हम तो याहवेह हमारे परमेश्वर पर भरोसा करते हैं,” तो क्या ये वही नहीं हैं, जिनके पूजा-स्थल तथा वेदियां हिज़किय्याह ने ध्वस्त कर दी हैं, तथा यहूदिया तथा येरूशलेम को यह आदेश दिया गया है: “तुम्हें येरूशलेम में इसी वेदी के समक्ष आराधना करनी होगी”?

23 Why don't you accept a challenge from my master, the king of Assyria? He says, I'll give you two thousand horses, if you can find enough riders for them!

“‘तो अब आओ, और हमारे स्वामी, अश्शूर के राजा से मोलभाव कर लो: मैं तुम्हें दो हज़ार घोड़े दूंगा; यदि तुम अपनी ओर से उनके लिए दो हज़ार घुड़सवार ला सको तो!

24 How could you defeat even a single officer in charge of the weakest of my master's men when you're trusting in Egypt for chariots and horsemen?

रथों और घुड़सवारों के लिए मिस्र देश पर निर्भर रहते हुए यह कैसे संभव है कि तुम मेरे स्वामी के छोटे से छोटे सेवक से टक्कर ले उसे हरा दो!

25 More than that—would I have come to attack this pace without the Lord's encouragement? It was the Lord himself who told me, ‘Go and attack this land and destroy it.’”

क्या मैं याहवेह की आज्ञा बिना ही इस स्थान को नष्ट करने आया हूं? याहवेह ही ने मुझे आदेश दिया है, इस देश पर हमला कर इसे खत्म कर दो.’”

26 Eliakim, son of Hilkiah, together with Shebnah and Joah, said to the army general, “Please speak to us, your servants, in Aramaic, for we understand it. Don't speak to us in Hebrew while the people on the wall are listening.”

तब हिलकियाह का पुत्र एलियाकिम, शेबना तथा योआह ने प्रमुख सेनापति से आग्रह किया, “अपने सेवकों से अरामी भाषा में संवाद कीजिए, क्योंकि यह भाषा हम समझते हैं; यहूदिया की हिब्री भाषा में संवाद मत कीजिए, क्योंकि प्राचीर पर कुछ लोग हमारा वार्तालाप सुन रहे हैं.”

27 But the army general replied, “Did my master only send me to say these things to your master and to you, and not to the people sitting on the wall? They too, just like you, are going to have to eat their own excrement and drink their own urine!”

किंतु प्रमुख सेनापति ने उत्तर दिया, “क्या मेरे स्वामी ने मात्र तुम्हारे स्वामी तथा मात्र तुम्हें यह संदेश देने के लिए मुझे प्रेषित किया है, तथा प्राचीर पर बैठे व्यक्तियों के लिए नहीं, जिनके लिए तो यही दंड निर्धारित है, कि वे तुम्हारे साथ स्वयं अपनी विष्ठा का सेवन करें तथा अपने ही मूत्र का पान?”

28 Then the army general shouted out in Hebrew, “Listen to this from the great king, the king of Assyria!

यह कहते हुए प्रमुख सेनापति खड़ा हो गया और सबके सामने उच्च स्वर में यहूदिया की हिब्री भाषा में यह कहा: “अश्शूर के राजा, प्रतिष्ठित सम्राट का यह संदेश सुन लो!

29 This is what the king says: Don't let Hezekiah trick you! He can't save you from me!

सम्राट का आदेश यह है: हिज़किय्याह तुम्हें इस छल में सम्भ्रमित न रखे, क्योंकि वह तुम्हें विमुक्त करने में समर्थ न होगा;

30 Don't believe Hezekiah when he tells you to trust in the Lord, saying, ‘I'm certain the Lord will save us. This city will never fall into the hands of the king of Assyria.’

न ही हिज़किय्याह यह कहते हुए तुम्हें याहवेह पर भरोसा करने के लिए उकसाए, ‘निःसंदेह याहवेह हमारा छुटकारा करेंगे. यह नगर अश्शूर के राजा के अधीन होने न दिया जाएगा.’

31 Don't listen to Hezekiah. This is what the king says: Make a peace treaty with me and surrender to me. That way everyone will eat from their own vine and their own fig tree, and drink water from their own well!

“हिज़किय्याह के आश्वासन पर ध्यान न दो, क्योंकि अश्शूर के राजा का संदेश यह है, मुझसे संधि स्थापित कर लो. नगर से निकलकर बाहर मेरे पास आ जाओ. तब तुममें से हर एक अपनी ही लगाई हुई दाखलता से फल खाएगा, तुममें से हर एक अपने ही अंजीर वृक्ष से अंजीर खाएगा, और तुममें से हर एक अपने ही कुंड में से जल पीएगा.

32 I will come and take you to a land that's like your own, a land of grain and new wine, a land of bread and vineyards, a land of olive trees and honey. Then you will live and not die. But don't listen to Hezekiah, for he's tricking you when he says, ‘The Lord will deliver us.’

तब मैं आऊंगा और तुम्हें एक ऐसे देश में ले जाऊंगा, जो तुम्हारे ही देश के सदृश्य है, ऐसा देश जहां अन्‍न की उपज है, तथा नई द्राक्षा भी. यह भोजन तथा द्राक्षा उद्यानों का देश है, जैतून के पेड़ों और शहद में भरपूर; कि तुम वहां सम्पन्‍नता में जी सको, तुम काल का ग्रास न बनो. “तब तुम हिज़किय्याह के आश्वासन पर ध्यान न देना, जब वह तुम्हें यह कहते हुए भटकाएगा: ‘याहवेह हमारा छुटकारा कर देंगे.’

33 Have any of the gods of any nation ever saved their land from the power of the king of Assyria?

भला, कहीं कोई ऐसा हुआ भी है कि पड़ोसी राष्ट्रों के किसी देवता ने अपने देश को अश्शूर के राजा से बचाया हो?

34 Where were the gods of Hamath and Arpad? Where were the gods of Sepharvaim, Hena, and Ivvah? Were they able to save Samaria from me?

कहां हैं, हामाथ तथा अरपाद के देवता? कहां हैं, सेफरवाइम, हेना और इव्वाह के देवता? और हां, उन्होंने शमरिया को कब मेरे अधिकार से विमुक्त किया है?

35 Which one of all the gods of these countries has saved their land from me? How then could the Lord save Jerusalem from me?”

इन देशों के किस देवता ने अपने देश को मेरे हाथों से विमुक्त किया है? यह याहवेह येरूशलेम को मेरे हाथों से कैसे विमुक्त करा लेंगे?”

36 But the people remained silent and didn't say anything, for Hezekiah had given the order, “Don't answer him.”

मगर प्रजा मौन रही. किसी ने भी उससे एक शब्द तक न कहा, क्योंकि राजा का आदेश ही यह था, “उसे उत्तर न देना!”

37 Then Eliakim, son of Hilkiah, the palace manager, Shebna the scribe, and Joah, son of Asaph, the record-keeper, went to Hezekiah with their clothes torn, and they told him what the Assyrian army general had said.

हिलकियाह के पुत्र एलियाकिम ने, जो राजघराने में गृह प्रबंधक था, लिपिक शेबना और आसफ के पुत्र योआह ने, जो लेखापाल था अपने वस्त्र फाड़े और जाकर प्रमुख सेनापति के शब्द राजा को जा सुनाए.
