2 Kings 16
1 Ahaz, son of Jotham, became king of Judah in the seventeenth year of the reign of Pekah, son of Remaliah.
La dix-septième année de Pékah, fils de Remaliahou, Achaz, fils de Jotham, monta sur le trône de Juda.
2 Ahaz was twenty when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem for sixteen years. But unlike David his forefather, he did not do what was right in the sight of the Lord his God.
Achaz avait vingt ans à son avènement, et il régna seize ans à Jérusalem; il ne fit pas ce qui est droit aux yeux de l’Eternel, son Dieu, comme l’avait fait David, son aïeul.
3 He followed the ways of the kings of Israel, and he even sacrificed his son in the fire, participating in the disgusting practices of the nations the Lord had driven out before the Israelites.
Au contraire, il suivit l’exemple des rois d’Israël. Il fit même passer son fils par le feu, imitant les abominations des peuples que Dieu avait dépossédés au profit des enfants d’Israël.
4 He sacrificed and presented burnt offerings on the high places and on the hills and under every green tree.
Il offrit des sacrifices et de l’encens sur les hauts-lieux et les collines et sous tous les arbres verdoyants.
5 Rezin, king of Aram, and Pekah, son of Remaliah, king of Israel, came and attacked Jerusalem. They besieged Ahaz but couldn't defeat him.
C’Est alors que vinrent l’attaquer à Jérusalem Recîn, roi de Syrie, et Pékah, fils de Remaliahou, roi d’Israël; ils assiégèrent Achaz, mais ne purent le combattre victorieusement.
6 This was when Rezin, king of Aram, recovered Elath for Edom. He expelled the people of Judah, and sent Edomites to Elath, where they still live to this day.
Vers ce temps, Recîn, roi de Syrie, restitua Elat à la Syrie et expulsa de cette ville les Judéens. Les Syriens revinrent à Elat, qu’ils occupent encore aujourd’hui.
7 Ahaz sent messengers to Tiglath-pileser, king of Assyria, saying, “I'm your servant, and your son. Please come and rescue me from the kings of Aram and Israel who are attacking me.”
Alors Achaz envoya des ambassadeurs à Tiglat-Pilésser, roi d’Assyrie, pour lui dire "Je suis ton serviteur et ton fils. Viens et sauve-moi des mains du roi de Syrie et du roi d’Israël qui m’ont attaqué."
8 Ahaz took the silver and gold from the Lord's Temple and from the treasuries of the king's palace, and he sent it to the king of Assyria as a gift.
Achaz prit l’argent et l’or qui se trouvaient dans le temple de l’Eternel et dans les trésors du palais royal et les envoya en présent au roi d’Assyrie.
9 The king of Assyria responded positively to him. He went and attacked Damascus, and captured it. He deported its inhabitants to Kir and executed Rezin.
Celui-ci, cédant à sa prière, attaqua Damas, s’en rendit maître et en déporta les habitants à Kir; quant à Recîn, il le fit mettre à mort.
10 King Ahaz went to Damascus to meet Tiglath-Pileser, king of Assyria. During his visit he saw an altar in Damascus, and he sent Uriah the priest a drawing of the altar, along with instructions how to build it.
Le roi Achaz alla alors à la rencontre de Tiglat-Pilésser, à Damas. Ayant remarqué l’autel de cette ville, il fit parvenir à Ouria, le pontife, le dessin et le plan de l’autel dans tous ses détails.
11 So Uriah the priest built an altar following all the instructions King Ahaz had sent from Damascus, completing it before King Ahaz returned.
Ourla, le pontife, construisit un autel semblable et l’exécuta tout à fait selon le modèle que le roi Achaz lui avait expédié de Damas, avant même le retour d’Achaz de cette ville.
12 When the king came back from Damascus he saw the altar. He went over to it and made offerings on it.
Revenu de Damas, le roi vit l’autel; il s’en approcha et y monta.
13 He presented his burnt offering and his grain offering, he poured out his drink offering, and sprinkled the blood of his friendship offerings on it.
Il y fit consumer son holocauste et son oblation, y répandit des libations, et aspergea l’autel du sang de ses rémunératoires.
14 He also moved the bronze altar that stood before the Lord from the front of the Temple, between the new altar and the Lord's Temple, and he placed it to the north of the new altar.
Quant à l’autel d’airain qui était devant l’Eternel, il le déplaça de devant le temple, où il se trouvait établi entre le nouvel autel et le temple de l’Eternel, et il l’érigea à l’angle nord de cet autel.
15 Then King Ahaz ordered Uriah the priest: “Use this new important altar to offer the morning burnt offering, the evening grain offering, the king's burnt offering and grain offering, and the burnt offering of all the people, and their grain offerings and their drink offerings. Sprinkle on this altar the blood of all the burnt offerings and sacrifices. The old bronze altar I'll use for divination.”
Le roi Achaz fit cette recommandation au pontife Ouria: "Sur le grand autel fais fumer l’holocauste du matin, l’oblation du soir, l’holocauste et l’oblation du roi, et l’holocauste ainsi que l’oblation de tout le peuple, fais-y leurs libations et asperge-le de tout le sang de l’holocauste et de tout le sang des sacrifices. Pour ce qui est de l’autel d’airain, j’y réfléchirai."
16 Uriah the priest followed King Ahaz's orders.
Le pontife Ouria exécuta tous les ordres du roi Achaz.
17 King Ahaz also removed the frames of the movable carts, and also took out the bronze basin from each of them. He removed the Sea from the bronze bulls it rested on and placed it on a stone pedestal.
Le roi Achaz détacha les moulures des supports, en enleva le bassin, fit descendre la Mer de dessus les taureaux d’airain qui la portaient et la déposa sur un pavé de pierres.
18 He took down the Sabbath canopy they had built in the Temple, as well as the king's outer entrance to the Lord's Temple. He did this to please the king of Assyria.
Le portique du sabbat qu’on avait bâti dans le temple et l’entrée du roi située à l’extérieur, il les déplaça dans le temple de l’Eternel, à cause du roi d’Assyrie.
19 The rest of what happened in Ahaz's reign and all he did are recorded in the Book of Chronicles of the Kings of Judah.
Les autres actes accomplis par Achaz sont consignés dans le livre des annales des rois de Juda.
20 Ahaz died and was buried with his forefathers in the City of David. His son Hezekiah succeeded him as king.
Achaz s’endormit avec ses pères et fut enterré à côté d’eux dans la Cité de David. Son fils Ezéchias lui succéda.
