2 Chronicles 32
1 After Hezekiah's faithful work, Sennacherib, king of Assyria, invaded Judah and attacked its fortified towns, planning to conquer them for himself.
Después de estas cosas y de esta fidelidad, vino Senaquerib, rey de Asiria, entró en Judá, acampó contra las ciudades fortificadas y pretendió ganarlas para sí.
2 When Hezekiah saw that Sennacherib had come to attack Jerusalem,
Cuando Ezequías vio que Senaquerib había llegado y que planeaba luchar contra Jerusalén,
3 he talked with his army commanders about blocking up the water sources that lay outside the city. This is what they did.
aconsejó a sus príncipes y a sus valientes que detuvieran las aguas de los manantiales que estaban fuera de la ciudad, y le ayudaron.
4 They directed a large group of workers to block all the springs as well as the stream flowing nearby. “Why should the kings of Assyria come here and find plenty of water?” they asked.
Entonces se reunió mucha gente y detuvieron todos los manantiales y el arroyo que fluía por el centro de la tierra, diciendo: “¿Por qué han de venir los reyes de Asiria y encontrar agua abundante?”
5 Hezekiah set to work and rebuilt all the parts of the wall that had fallen down and constructed towers on it. He also built another wall outside the first wall. He reinforced the Millo in the city of David. He also made a large quantity of weapons and shields.
Se armó de valor, reconstruyó toda la muralla derribada y la levantó hasta las torres, con la otra muralla por fuera, y fortaleció a Millo en la ciudad de David, e hizo armas y escudos en abundancia.
6 Hezekiah put army commanders in charge of the people. Then he summoned the people to gather in the square at the city gate. He spoke to them confidently, telling them,
Puso capitanes de guerra al frente del pueblo, los reunió junto a él en el lugar amplio de la puerta de la ciudad y les habló con ánimo, diciendo:
7 “Be strong and be brave! Don't be afraid or discouraged because of the king of Assyria with his large army, for there are more with us than with him.
“Sed fuertes y valientes. No tengáis miedo ni os acobardéis por el rey de Asiria, ni por toda la multitud que está con él; porque hay uno mayor con nosotros que con él.
8 He has human help, but we have the Lord God on our side to help us and fight our battles.” The people were encouraged by this speech of Hezekiah, king of Judah.
Un brazo de carne está con él, pero el Señor, nuestro Dios, está con nosotros para ayudarnos y librar nuestras batallas.” El pueblo se apoyó en las palabras de Ezequías, rey de Judá.
9 Some time later, when Sennacherib was attacking the town of Lachish with his armies, he sent his officers to Jerusalem with this message for Hezekiah, king of Judah, and for everyone from Judah living there.
Después de esto, Senaquerib, rey de Asiria, envió a sus siervos a Jerusalén (ahora estaba atacando Laquis, y todas sus fuerzas estaban con él), a Ezequías, rey de Judá, y a todo Judá que estaba en Jerusalén, diciendo:
10 “This is what Sennacherib, king of Assyria, says. What are you going to trust in to help you survive when I come to attack Jerusalem?
Senaquerib, rey de Asiria, dice: “¿En quién confían ustedes, que permanecen sitiados en Jerusalén?
11 Can't you see that in reality Hezekiah is telling you to die from starvation and thirst when he tells you, ‘The Lord our God will save us from the king of Assyria’?
¿No os persuade Ezequías para entregaros a la muerte por hambre y por sed, diciendo: ‘El Señor, nuestro Dios, nos librará de la mano del rey de Asiria’?
12 Wasn't it Hezekiah who destroyed the high places and altars of this god and told Judah and Jerusalem, ‘You must worship at this one altar, and offer sacrifices on it alone’?
¿No ha quitado el mismo Ezequías sus lugares altos y sus altares, y ha ordenado a Judá y a Jerusalén, diciendo: ‘Adoraréis ante un solo altar, y quemaréis incienso en él’?
13 Don't you know what I and my fathers have done to all the nations of the earth? None of their gods could save them or their lands from me!
¿No sabéis lo que yo y mis padres hemos hecho a todos los pueblos de las tierras? ¿Acaso los dioses de las naciones de esas tierras fueron capaces de librar su tierra de mi mano?
14 Which one of all these gods of these nations that my fathers destroyed has been able to save them from me? So why would you think your god can save you from me?
¿Quién había entre todos los dioses de las naciones que mis padres destruyeron que pudiera librar a su pueblo de mi mano, para que vuestro Dios pudiera libraros de mi mano?
15 So don't let Hezekiah fool you, and don't let him mislead you like this. Don't trust him, for no god of any nation or kingdom has been able to save their people from me or from my fathers. So it's even less possible for your god to save you from me!”
Ahora bien, no dejes que Ezequías te engañe ni te persuada de esta manera. No le creas, porque ningún dios de ninguna nación o reino ha podido librar a su pueblo de mi mano, ni de la mano de mis padres. ¿Cuánto menos te librará tu Dios de mi mano?”
16 Sennacherib's officers continued criticizing the Lord God and his servant Hezekiah.
Sus servidores hablaron aún más contra el Dios Yahvé y contra su siervo Ezequías.
17 Sennacherib also wrote letters insulting the Lord, the God of Israel, taunting him by saying, “In the same way the gods of the nations did not save their people from me, so the god of Hezekiah will not save his people from me either.”
También escribió cartas insultando a Yahvé, el Dios de Israel, y hablando contra él, diciendo: “Como los dioses de las naciones de las tierras, que no han librado a su pueblo de mi mano, así el Dios de Ezequías no librará a su pueblo de mi mano.”
18 The Assyrians also shouted this out in Hebrew to the people of Jerusalem standing on the wall to frighten and to terrify them so that the city would be surrendered.
Llamaron a viva voz, en lengua judía, a los habitantes de Jerusalén que estaban en la muralla, para atemorizarlos y molestarlos, a fin de tomar la ciudad.
19 They talked about the God of Jerusalem like they did about the gods of the other nations, gods made by human beings.
Hablaron del Dios de Jerusalén como de los dioses de los pueblos de la tierra, que son obra de manos de hombres.
20 King Hezekiah and the prophet Isaiah, son of Amoz, appealed about this in prayer to the God of heaven.
El rey Ezequías y el profeta Isaías, hijo de Amoz, oraron a causa de esto y clamaron al cielo.
21 The Lord sent an angel who wiped out every warrior, leader, and commander in the camp of the Assyrian king. So he returned home in disgrace. When he went into the temple of his god, some of his own sons killed him with their swords.
El Señor envió a un ángel que eliminó a todos los hombres valientes, a los jefes y a los capitanes del campamento del rey de Asiria. Así que regresó con el rostro avergonzado a su propia tierra. Cuando entró en la casa de su dios, los que salieron de su propio cuerpo lo mataron allí a espada.
22 The Lord saved Hezekiah and the people of Jerusalem from King Sennacherib of Assyria and all other enemies, giving them peace in every direction.
Así salvó Yahvé a Ezequías y a los habitantes de Jerusalén de la mano de Senaquerib, rey de Asiria, y de la mano de todos los demás, y los guió por todos lados.
23 From then on he was very well respected by all the nations, and many brought offerings to Jerusalem for the Lord and valuable gifts for Hezekiah, king of Judah.
Muchos llevaron regalos a Yahvé en Jerusalén, y cosas preciosas a Ezequías, rey de Judá, de modo que desde entonces fue exaltado a la vista de todas las naciones.
24 Around that time Hezekiah fell sick and was about to die. So he prayed to the Lord, who replied by healing him and giving him a miraculous sign.
En aquellos días Ezequías tenía una enfermedad terminal, y oró a Yahvé; y éste le habló y le dio una señal.
25 But because he had become proud, Hezekiah did not acknowledge the gift he'd been given. So the Lord's anger fell on him, and on Judah and Jerusalem.
Pero Ezequías no correspondió adecuadamente al beneficio que se le hacía, porque su corazón estaba enardecido. Por eso hubo ira sobre él, sobre Judá y sobre Jerusalén.
26 Then Hezekiah apologized for his arrogance, as did the people of Jerusalem, and the Lord's anger no longer fell on them during Hezekiah's lifetime.
Sin embargo, Ezequías se humilló por la soberbia de su corazón, tanto él como los habitantes de Jerusalén, de modo que la ira del Señor no cayó sobre ellos en los días de Ezequías.
27 Hezekiah was very rich and highly honored, and he built treasury storerooms to hold silver, gold, precious stones, spices, shields, and all kinds of valuable things.
Ezequías tenía grandes riquezas y honores. Se proveyó de tesoros de plata, de oro, de piedras preciosas, de especias, de escudos y de toda clase de objetos de valor;
28 He constructed buildings to store supplies of grain, new wine, and olive oil, and stalls for all kinds of animals, including cattle and sheep.
también de almacenes para el aumento del grano, del vino nuevo y del aceite; y de establos para toda clase de animales, y de rebaños en rediles.
29 He built many towns, and he owned large herds of cattle and flocks of sheep, for God had made him very wealthy.
Además, se proveyó de ciudades y de posesiones de rebaños y manadas en abundancia, porque Dios le había dado abundantes posesiones.
30 Hezekiah blocked off the outlet of the upper Gihon spring and made the water flow down to the west side of the City of David. Hezekiah was successful in everything he did.
Este mismo Ezequías también detuvo el manantial superior de las aguas de Gihón, y las hizo descender directamente al lado occidental de la ciudad de David. Ezequías prosperó en todas sus obras.
31 But when ambassadors of the rulers of Babylon came to him to ask about the miraculous sign that had happened in the country, God left him to himself test him, so he could know Hezekiah's true thinking.
Sin embargo, en cuanto a los embajadores de los príncipes de Babilonia, que le enviaron a preguntar por la maravilla que se hacía en el país, Dios lo dejó para que lo probara, a fin de conocer todo lo que había en su corazón.
32 The rest of what Hezekiah did, including his acts of loyalty, are recorded in the vision of the prophet Isaiah, son of Amoz, in the Book of the Kings of Judah and Israel.
El resto de los hechos de Ezequías y sus buenas acciones, he aquí que están escritos en la visión del profeta Isaías, hijo de Amoz, en el libro de los reyes de Judá e Israel.
33 Hezekiah died and was buried in the upper cemetery of David's descendants. All Judah and the people of Jerusalem honored him at his death. His son Manasseh took over as king.
Ezequías durmió con sus padres, y lo enterraron en la subida a las tumbas de los hijos de David. Todo Judá y los habitantes de Jerusalén lo honraron a su muerte. Su hijo Manasés reinó en su lugar.
