1 Samuel 16

1 The Lord asked Samuel, “How long are you going to continue to mourn over Saul because I have rejected him as king of Israel? Fill your flask with olive oil and go. I'm sending you to Jesse of Bethlehem, for I have chosen a king for myself from among his sons.”

Und der HERR sprach zu Samuel: Wie lange trägst du Leid um Saul, den ich verworfen habe, daß er nicht König sei über Israel? Fülle dein Horn mit Öl und gehe hin, ich will dich senden zu dem Bethlehemiter Isai; denn unter seinen Söhnen habe ich mir einen König ersehen.

2 “How can I go and do that?” Samuel asked. “Saul will hear about it and kill me!” The Lord answered, “Take a young cow with you and say, ‘I've come to sacrifice to the Lord.’

Samuel aber sprach: Wie soll ich hingehen? Saul wird's erfahren und mich erwürgen. Der HERR sprach: Nimm ein Kalb von den Rindern zu dir und sprich: Ich bin kommen, dem HERRN zu opfern.

3 Invite Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will show you what you have to do. Anoint for me the one I tell you to.”

Und sollst Isai zum Opfer laden; da will ich dir weisen, was du tun sollst, daß du mir salbest, welchen ich dir sagen werde.

4 Samuel did what the Lord had told him to and went to Bethlehem. When the town elders met him, they were afraid and asked him, “Do you come in peace?”

Samuel tat, wie ihm der HERR gesagt hatte, und kam gen Bethlehem. Da entsetzten sich die Ältesten der Stadt und gingen ihm entgegen und sprachen: Ist's Friede, daß du kommest?

5 “Yes, I come in peace,” he replied. “I have come to sacrifice to the Lord. Purify yourselves and come with me to the sacrifice.” He purified Jesse and his sons and invited them to the sacrifice.

Er sprach: Ja, ich bin kommen, dem HERRN zu opfern; heiliget euch und kommet mit mir zum Opfer! Und er heiligte den Isai und seine Söhne und lud sie zum Opfer.

6 When they arrived and Samuel saw Eliab, he said to himself, “This has got to be the Lord's anointed!”

Da sie nun hereinkamen, sah er den Eliab an und gedachte, ob der vor dem HERRN sei sein Gesalbter.

7 But the Lord said to Samuel, “Don't look at his outward appearance or how tall he is because I have rejected him, for the Lord does not look as human beings do. Human beings only see with their eyes what's on the outside, but the Lord looks at the way people think deep inside.”

Aber der HERR sprach zu Samuel: Siehe nicht an seine Gestalt noch seine große Person; ich habe ihn verworfen. Denn es gehet nicht, wie ein Mensch siehet. Ein Mensch siehet, was vor Augen ist, der HERR aber siehet das Herz an.

8 Then Jesse called Abinadab and had him come before Samuel, who said, “The Lord hasn't chosen this one either.”

Da rief Isai dem Abinadab und ließ ihn vor Samuel übergehen. Und er sprach: Diesen hat der HERR auch nicht erwählet.

9 Then Jesse had Shammah come forward. But Samuel said, “The Lord hasn't chosen this one either.”

Da ließ Isai vorübergehen Samma. Er aber sprach: Diesen hat der HERR auch nicht erwählet.

10 Jesse had seven of his sons come before Samuel, but Samuel told him, “The Lord has not chosen any of these.”

Da ließ Isai seine sieben Söhne vor Samuel übergehen. Aber Samuel sprach zu Isai: Der HERR hat der keinen erwählet.

11 So he asked Jesse, “Don't you have any more sons?” “Well, there's still the youngest,” Jesse replied, “but he is out looking after the sheep.” “Send for him and bring him here because we will not sit down and eat until he gets here,” Samuel told Jesse.

Und Samuel sprach zu Isai: Sind das die Knaben alle? Er sprach: Es ist noch übrig der Kleinste; und siehe, er hütet der Schafe. Da sprach Samuel zu Isai: Sende hin und laß ihn holen; denn wir werden uns nicht setzen, bis er hieher komme.

12 So Jesse sent for him and brought him in. He had a red complexion with beautiful eyes, and looked handsome. The Lord said, “Go and anoint him, for he's the one.”

Da sandte er hin und ließ ihn holen. Und er war bräunlich, mit schönen Augen und guter Gestalt. Und der HERR sprach: Auf! und salbe ihn; denn der ist's.

13 Samuel took the flask of olive oil and anointed him in the presence of his brothers, and the Spirit of the Lord came on David in power from that day on. Then Samuel left and returned to Ramah.

Da nahm Samuel sein Ölhorn und salbete ihn mitten unter seinen Brüdern. Und der Geist des HERRN geriet über David von dem Tage an und fürder. Samuel aber machte sich auf und ging gen Rama.

14 The Spirit of the Lord had left Saul, and an evil spirit from the Lord tormented him.

Der Geist aber des HERRN wich von Saul, und ein böser Geist vom HERRN machte ihn sehr unruhig.

15 Saul's servants told him, “It's definitely an evil spirit from God that's tormenting you.

Da sprachen die Knechte Sauls zu ihm: Siehe, ein böser Geist von Gott macht dich sehr unruhig.

16 Give us your servants here the order to find someone who is good at playing the harp so that when the evil spirit from God comes on you, he can play and you'll feel much better.”

Unser HERR sage seinen Knechten, die vor ihm stehen, daß sie einen Mann suchen, der auf der Harfe wohl spielen könne, auf daß, wenn der böse Geist Gottes über dich kommt, er mit seiner Hand spiele, daß besser mit dir werde.

17 Saul gave the order to his servants, “Find me someone who is good at playing the harp and bring him to me.”

Da sprach Saul zu seinen Knechten: Sehet nach einem Manne, der es wohl kann auf Saitenspiel, und bringet ihn zu mir.

18 One of the servants replied, “I know a son of Jesse of Bethlehem who is good at playing the harp. He is a brave man, a good fighter, well-spoken and handsome, and the Lord is with him.”

Da antwortete der Knaben einer und sprach: Siehe, ich habe gesehen einen Sohn Isais, des Bethlehemiten, der kann wohl auf Saitenspiel; ein rüstiger Mann und streitbar und verständig in Sachen und schön, und der HERR ist mit ihm.

19 Saul sent messengers to Jesse, telling him, “Send me your son David who takes care of the sheep.”

Da sandte Saul Boten zu Isai und ließ ihm sagen: Sende deinen Sohn David zu mir, der bei den Schafen ist!

20 So Jesse loaded a donkey with bread, a skin of wine, and a young goat and sent them with his son David to Saul.

Da nahm Isai einen Esel mit Brot und ein Legel Weins und ein Ziegenböcklein und sandte es Saul durch seinen Sohn David.

21 David came to Saul and began working for him. Saul thought a great deal of him, and David became his armor-bearer.

Also kam David zu Saul und dienete vor ihm, und er gewann ihn sehr lieb, und er ward sein Waffenträger.

22 Saul sent a message to Jesse, saying, “Please allow David to continue working for me because I am pleased with him.”

Und Saul sandte zu Isai und ließ ihm sagen: Laß David vor mir bleiben, denn er hat Gnade funden vor meinen Augen.

23 So whenever the spirit from God came on Saul, David would take his harp and play, and Saul would gain relief and feel better, and the evil spirit would leave him.

Wenn nun der Geist Gottes über Saul kam, so nahm David die Harfe und spielete mit seiner Hand; so erquickte sich Saul, und ward besser mit ihm, und der böse Geist wich von ihm.
