1 Samuel 15
1 Samuel told Saul, “The Lord sent me to anoint you king of his people Israel. So now pay attention to what the Lord has to say.
ഒരിക്കൽ ശമുവേൽ ശൗലിന്റെ അടുത്തുവന്ന് “യഹോവ തന്റെ ജനമായ ഇസ്രായേലിനു രാജാവായി നിന്നെ അഭിഷേകംചെയ്യാൻ എന്നെ നിയോഗിച്ചല്ലോ. അതിനാൽ ഇപ്പോൾ യഹോവയിൽനിന്നുള്ള സന്ദേശം ശ്രദ്ധിച്ചുകൊള്ളുക,” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
2 This is what the Lord Almighty says: I observed what the Amalekites did to Israel when they ambushed them on their way from Egypt.
“സൈന്യങ്ങളുടെ യഹോവ ഇപ്രകാരം അരുളിച്ചെയ്യുന്നു: ‘ഇസ്രായേൽ ഈജിപ്റ്റിൽനിന്ന് പുറപ്പെട്ടുവരുമ്പോൾ വഴിയിൽ പതിയിരുന്ന് അവരെ ആക്രമിച്ചു ദ്രോഹം പ്രവർത്തിച്ചതിനാൽ ഞാൻ അമാലേക്യരെ ശിക്ഷിക്കും.
3 Go and attack the Amalekites and exterminate all of them. Don't spare anyone, but kill every man, woman, child, and baby; every ox, sheep, camel, and donkey.”
അതിനാൽ നീ പുറപ്പെട്ടുചെന്ന് അമാലേക്യരെ ആക്രമിച്ച് അവരെയും അവർക്കുള്ള എല്ലാറ്റിനെയും ഉന്മൂലനംചെയ്യുക. അവരിൽ പുരുഷന്മാർ, സ്ത്രീകൾ, കുട്ടികൾ, ശിശുക്കൾ, കന്നുകാലികൾ, ആടുകൾ, ഒട്ടകങ്ങൾ, കഴുതകൾ എന്നിങ്ങനെയുള്ള യാതൊന്നിനെയും ജീവനോടെ ശേഷിപ്പിക്കാതെ കൊന്നുകളയുക.’”
4 Saul called up his army at Telem. There were 200,000 Israelite infantry and 10,000 men from Judah.
അങ്ങനെ ശൗൽ ജനത്തെയെല്ലാം തെലായീമിൽ വിളിച്ചുവരുത്തി—അവരെ എണ്ണിനോക്കിയപ്പോൾ രണ്ടുലക്ഷം ഇസ്രായേല്യയോദ്ധാക്കളും പതിനായിരം യെഹൂദ്യയോദ്ധാക്കളും ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.
5 Saul advanced on the town of Amalek and set up an ambush in the valley.
ശൗൽ അമാലേക്യരുടെ നഗരംവരെ ചെന്ന് മലയിടുക്കിൽ പതിയിരിപ്പുകാരെ നിർത്തി.
6 Saul sent a message to warn the Kenites, “Move out of the area and leave the Amalekites so that I don't destroy you with them, because you showed kindness to all the people of Israel on their way from Egypt.” So the Kenites moved away and left the Amalekites.
പിന്നെ അദ്ദേഹം കേന്യരോടു പറഞ്ഞു: “ഇസ്രായേല്യരെല്ലാം ഈജിപ്റ്റിൽനിന്ന് പുറപ്പെട്ടുവരുമ്പോൾ നിങ്ങൾ അവരോടു ദയ കാണിച്ചല്ലോ! ഇപ്പോൾ ഞാൻ അമാലേക്യരോടൊപ്പം നിങ്ങളെയും നശിപ്പിക്കാൻ ഇടവരരുത്. അതിനാൽ അമാലേക്യരെ വിട്ട് അകന്നുപോകുക!” അതിനാൽ കേന്യർ അമാലേക്യരെ വിട്ടുപോയി.
7 Saul defeated the Amalekites from Havilah as far as Shur, to the east of Egypt.
അതിനുശേഷം ശൗൽ ഹവീലാമുതൽ ഈജിപ്റ്റിനു കിഴക്ക് ശൂർവരെയുള്ള മുഴുവൻദൂരവും അമാലേക്യരെ ആക്രമിച്ചു.
8 He captured Agag, king of Amalek, alive, but exterminated all the people by the sword.
അദ്ദേഹം അമാലേക്യരാജാവായ ആഗാഗിനെ ജീവനോടെ പിടിച്ചു. അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ ജനത്തെയെല്ലാം വാൾത്തലയാൽ ഉന്മൂലനംചെയ്തു.
9 Saul and his army spared Agag, together with the best sheep and cattle, the fat calves and lambs, and everything else that was any good. They didn't want to destroy those, but they completely destroyed all that was unwanted and worthless.
എന്നാൽ ആഗാഗിനെയും അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ ആടുമാടുകൾ, തടിച്ച കാളക്കിടാങ്ങൾ, ആട്ടിൻകുട്ടികൾ എന്നിവയിൽ ഏറ്റവും നല്ലതിനെ ശൗലും സൈന്യവും ജീവനോടെ ശേഷിപ്പിച്ചു. അവ കൊന്നുമുടിക്കാൻ അവർക്കു മനസ്സുവന്നില്ല. എന്നാൽ നിന്ദ്യവും നിസ്സാരവുമായവയെ എല്ലാം അവർ പരിപൂർണമായി നശിപ്പിച്ചു.
10 The Lord sent a message to Samuel, saying,
അപ്പോൾ യഹോവയുടെ അരുളപ്പാടു ശമുവേലിനുണ്ടായി:
11 “I'm sorry I made Saul king, for he has given up following me and hasn't done as I ordered.” Samuel was upset, and he cried out to the Lord all through the night.
“ശൗലിനെ രാജാവാക്കിയതിൽ ഞാൻ ദുഃഖിക്കുന്നു. അയാൾ എന്നെ വിട്ടകലുകയും എന്റെ കൽപ്പനകൾ പ്രമാണിക്കാതിരിക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു.” ശമുവേൽ കോപംകൊണ്ടുനിറഞ്ഞു. അന്നു രാത്രിമുഴുവൻ അദ്ദേഹം യഹോവയോടു നിലവിളിച്ചു.
12 Samuel got up early in the morning and went to meet Saul, but he was told, “Saul's gone to Carmel. There he's even erected a monument to honor himself, and now he's left and gone down to Gilgal.”
പിറ്റേന്ന് അതിരാവിലെ എഴുന്നേറ്റ് ശമുവേൽ ശൗലിനെ കാണുന്നതിനായി ചെന്നു. എന്നാൽ “അദ്ദേഹം കർമേലിലേക്കു പോയെന്നും അവിടെ തനിക്കുവേണ്ടി ഒരു വിജയസ്തംഭം നാട്ടിയതിനുശേഷം ഗിൽഗാലിലേക്കു പോയിരിക്കുന്നു,” എന്നും ശമുവേലിന് അറിവുകിട്ടി.
13 When Samuel caught up with him, Saul said, “The Lord bless you! I have done what the Lord ordered.”
ശമുവേൽ തന്റെ അടുത്തെത്തിയപ്പോൾ ശൗൽ പറഞ്ഞു: “യഹോവ അങ്ങയെ അനുഗ്രഹിക്കട്ടെ! ഞാൻ യഹോവയുടെ കൽപ്പനകൾ അനുഷ്ഠിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.”
14 “So what's this bleating of sheep my ears are picking up? What's this lowing of cattle that I'm hearing?” Samuel asked.
എന്നാൽ ശമുവേൽ ചോദിച്ചു: “എങ്കിൽ ആടുകളുടെ കരച്ചിൽ എന്റെ ചെവിയിൽ പതിക്കുന്നതെന്ത്? കന്നുകാലികളുടെ മുക്കുറ ഞാൻ കേൾക്കുന്നതെന്ത്?”
15 “The army brought them from the Amalekites,” Saul replied. “They spared the best sheep and cattle to sacrifice to the Lord your God, but we completely destroyed the rest.”
ശൗൽ മറുപടി പറഞ്ഞു: “അമാലേക്യരിൽനിന്ന് പടയാളികൾ കൊണ്ടുവന്നവയാണ് അവ. അങ്ങയുടെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവയ്ക്കു യാഗം അർപ്പിക്കുന്നതിനായി ആടുകളിലും കന്നുകാലികളിലും ഏറ്റവും മെച്ചമായവയെ അവർ ജീവനോടെ ശേഷിപ്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു. എന്നാൽ മറ്റുള്ളവയെ ഞങ്ങൾ പൂർണമായും നശിപ്പിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.”
16 “Oh, be quiet!” Samuel told Saul. “Let me tell you what the Lord told me last night.” “Tell me what he said,” Saul replied.
“നിർത്തുക!” ശമുവേൽ ആക്രോശിച്ചു. “കഴിഞ്ഞരാത്രിയിൽ യഹോവ എന്നോടു കൽപ്പിച്ചതു ഞാൻ നിന്നെ അറിയിക്കാം.” “എന്നോടു പറഞ്ഞാലും,” ശൗൽ മറുപടിയായി പറഞ്ഞു.
17 “Once you didn't use to think much of yourself, but haven't you become the leader of the tribes of Israel?” Samuel asked. “The Lord anointed you king of Israel.
ശമുവേൽ തുടർന്നു പറഞ്ഞു: “ഒരിക്കൽ നിന്റെ സ്വന്തം കണ്ണിൽ നീ ചെറിയവനായിരുന്നു. എന്നിരുന്നാലും നീ ഇസ്രായേൽഗോത്രങ്ങൾക്കു തലവനായിത്തീർന്നില്ലേ? യഹോവ നിന്നെ ഇസ്രായേലിനു രാജാവായി അഭിഷേകംചെയ്തു.
18 Then he sent you out to do something, telling you, ‘Go and exterminate those sinners, the Amalekites. Attack them until they're all destroyed.’
‘ചെന്ന് ആ ദുഷ്ടജനമായ അമാലേക്യരെ പാടേ നശിപ്പിക്കുക; അവർ ഉന്മൂലനംചെയ്യപ്പെടുന്നതുവരെ അവരോടു പൊരുതുക എന്നു കൽപ്പിച്ച് യഹോവ നിന്നെ ഒരു ദൗത്യത്തിനുവേണ്ടി നിയോഗിച്ചു.’
19 Why didn't you do what the Lord ordered? Why did you swoop down on the plunder and do what was evil in the Lord's sight?”
നീ യഹോവയെ അനുസരിക്കാതെ കൊള്ളയിൽ ആർത്തിപൂണ്ടു ചാടിവീണത് എന്തുകൊണ്ട്? അങ്ങനെ നീ യഹോവയുടെ ദൃഷ്ടിയിൽ തിന്മയായതു ചെയ്തതെന്തിന്?”
20 “But I did do what the Lord ordered!” Saul replied. “I went and did what the Lord sent me to do. I brought back Agag, king of Amalek, and completely destroyed the Amalekites.
ശൗൽ പറഞ്ഞു: “എന്നാൽ ഞാൻ യഹോവയെ അനുസരിച്ചല്ലോ! യഹോവ എന്നെ ഭരമേൽപ്പിച്ച ദൗത്യം നിർവഹിക്കാൻ ഞാൻ പോയി. ഞാൻ അമാലേക്യരെ ഉന്മൂലനംചെയ്ത് അവരുടെ രാജാവായ ആഗാഗിനെ ബന്ധിച്ചുകൊണ്ടുവന്നിരിക്കുന്നു.
21 The army took sheep and cattle from the plunder, the best of what was consecrated to God, to sacrifice them to the Lord your God in Gilgal.”
പടയാളികൾ കൊള്ളയിൽനിന്ന് ആടുകളിലും കന്നുകാലികളിലും ചിലതിനെ എടുത്തു. ദൈവത്തിനുള്ള വഴിപാടിൽ ഏറ്റവും മെച്ചമായതിനെ അങ്ങയുടെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവയ്ക്കു യാഗം അർപ്പിക്കുന്നതിന് അവയെ ഗിൽഗാലിൽ കൊണ്ടുവന്നിരിക്കുകയാണ്.”
22 “Does the Lord prefer burnt offerings and sacrifices, or obedience to what he says?” Samuel asked. “Listen! Obedience is better than sacrifice. Paying attention is more important than offering the fat of rams.
എന്നാൽ ശമുവേൽ അതിനു മറുപടി പറഞ്ഞു: “യഹോവയുടെ കൽപ്പന കേട്ടനുസരിക്കുന്നതുപോലെയുള്ള പ്രസാദം യഹോവയ്ക്ക് ഹോമയാഗങ്ങളിലും ബലികളിലും ഉണ്ടാകുമോ? അനുസരിക്കുന്നത് ബലിയെക്കാൾ ശ്രേഷ്ഠം! കൽപ്പന ചെവിക്കൊള്ളുന്നത് മുട്ടാടുകളുടെ മേദസ്സിനെക്കാൾ ശ്രേഷ്ഠം!
23 Rebellion is as bad as witchcraft, and arrogance is as bad as the sin of idolatry. Because you have rejected the Lord's commands, he has rejected you as king.”
മാത്സര്യം ദേവപ്രശ്നംവെക്കുന്നതുപോലെതന്നെ പാപമാണ്! ശാഠ്യം വിഗ്രഹാരാധനപോലെയുള്ള തിന്മയാണ്. നീ യഹോവയുടെ വചനം തള്ളിക്കളഞ്ഞതിനാൽ അവിടന്നു നിന്നെ രാജത്വത്തിൽനിന്നും തള്ളിക്കളഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നു.”
24 “I have sinned,” Saul confessed to Samuel. “I disobeyed the Lord's orders and your instructions, because I was afraid of the people and followed what they said.
അപ്പോൾ ശൗൽ ശമുവേലിനോടു പറഞ്ഞു: “ഞാൻ പാപംചെയ്തു! ഞാൻ യഹോവയുടെ കൽപ്പനകളും അങ്ങയുടെ നിർദേശങ്ങളും ലംഘിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു. ഞാൻ ജനങ്ങളെ ഭയപ്പെടുകമൂലം അവരുടെ ഹിതത്തിനു വഴങ്ങിക്കൊടുത്തുപോയി.
25 So please forgive my sin and come back with me, so I can worship the Lord.”
എന്നാൽ ഇപ്പോൾ—എന്റെ പാപം ക്ഷമിക്കണമേ, യഹോവയെ ആരാധിക്കാൻ എന്റെകൂടെ മടങ്ങിവരണമേ—ഞാൻ അങ്ങയോടപേക്ഷിക്കുന്നു.”
26 But Samuel told him, “I'm not going back with you. You have rejected the Lord's orders, and the Lord has rejected you as king of Israel!”
എന്നാൽ ശമുവേൽ അദ്ദേഹത്തോടു പറഞ്ഞു: “ഞാൻ നിന്റെകൂടെ വരികയില്ല. നീ യഹോവയുടെ കൽപ്പന തള്ളിക്കളഞ്ഞു. അതിനാൽ യഹോവ നിന്നെ ഇസ്രായേലിന്റെ രാജാവ് എന്ന നിലയിൽനിന്ന് തള്ളിയിരിക്കുന്നു.”
27 As Samuel turned away to leave, Saul grabbed hold of the hem of his robe, and it ripped.
ശമുവേൽ പോകുന്നതിനായി തിരിഞ്ഞപ്പോൾ ശൗൽ അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ അങ്കിയുടെ അഗ്രത്തിൽപ്പിടിച്ചു; അതു കീറിപ്പോയി.
28 Samuel said to him, “The Lord has ripped the kingdom of Israel away from you today and has given it to your neighbor—someone who is better than you!
അപ്പോൾ ശമുവേൽ പറഞ്ഞു: “യഹോവ ഇന്ന് നിന്നിൽനിന്നും ഇസ്രായേലിന്റെ രാജത്വവും കീറിമാറ്റിയിരിക്കുന്നു; നിന്റെ അയൽവാസിയിൽ ഒരുവന്—നിന്നെക്കാൾ ശ്രേഷ്ഠനായ ഒരുവന്—അതു നൽകിയിരിക്കുന്നു.
29 In addition, the Glory of Israel does not lie or change his mind, for he is not a human being who changes his mind!”
ഇസ്രായേലിന്റെ മഹത്ത്വമായവൻ കള്ളം പറയുകയില്ല; തന്റെ മനസ്സു മാറ്റുകയുമില്ല. മനം മാറ്റുന്നതിന് അവിടന്ന് മനുഷ്യനല്ലല്ലോ!”
30 “Yes, I have sinned,” Saul replied. “Please honor me now before the elders of my people and before Israel—come back with me, so that I may worship the Lord your God.”
അതിനു ശൗൽ മറുപടി പറഞ്ഞു: “ഞാൻ പാപം ചെയ്തുപോയി. എന്നാൽ ജനത്തിന്റെ നേതാക്കന്മാരുടെയും ഇസ്രായേൽജനത്തിന്റെയും മുമ്പാകെ എന്നെ മാനിക്കണമേ! അങ്ങയുടെ ദൈവമായ യഹോവയെ ആരാധിക്കാൻ എന്നോടൊപ്പം മടങ്ങിവരണമേ.”
31 So Samuel went back with Saul after all, and Saul worshiped the Lord.
അപ്പോൾ ശമുവേൽ ശൗലിനോടൊപ്പം മടങ്ങിച്ചെന്നു. ശൗൽ യഹോവയെ ആരാധിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു.
32 Then Samuel said, “Bring me Agag, king of the Amalekites.” Agag came to him confidently, for he thought, “The threat of death of being killed must have passed.”
അതിനുശേഷം “അമാലേക്യരുടെ രാജാവായ ആഗാഗിനെ എന്റെമുമ്പാകെ കൊണ്ടുവരിക,” എന്നു ശമുവേൽ കൽപ്പിച്ചു. “മരണഭീതി നീങ്ങിപ്പോയിരിക്കുന്നു, നിശ്ചയം,” എന്നു ചിന്തിച്ചുകൊണ്ട് ആഗാഗ് ചങ്ങലയിൽ ബന്ധിതനായി ശമുവേലിന്റെ മുമ്പാകെയെത്തി.
33 But Samuel said, “In the same way that your sword has made women childless, so too your mother will be childless among women.” Samuel cut Agag to pieces before the Lord at Gilgal.
എന്നാൽ ശമുവേൽ, “നിന്റെ വാൾ സ്ത്രീകളെ മക്കളില്ലാത്തവരാക്കിയതുപോലെ ഇപ്പോൾ നിന്റെ അമ്മയും മക്കളില്ലാത്തവളാകും” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. അവിടെ ഗിൽഗാലിൽവെച്ച് യഹോവയുടെമുമ്പാകെ ശമുവേൽ ആഗാഗിനെ തുണ്ടം തുണ്ടമാക്കി വെട്ടിക്കളഞ്ഞു.
34 Samuel left for Ramah, and Saul went home to Gibeah of Saul.
അതിനെത്തുടർന്ന് ശമുവേൽ രാമായിലേക്കു പോയി, എന്നാൽ ശൗൽ ഗിബെയയിലെ തന്റെ അരമനയിലേക്കു മടങ്ങി.
35 Until the day of his death, Samuel never visited Saul again. Samuel mourned over Saul, and the Lord regretted he had made Saul the king of Israel.
ശമുവേൽ ശൗലിനെപ്രതി വിലപിച്ചിരുന്നെങ്കിലും തന്റെ മരണംവരെ ശൗലിനെ കാണുന്നതിനായി അദ്ദേഹം പിന്നെ പോയില്ല. ശൗലിനെ ഇസ്രായേലിനു രാജാവാക്കിയതിൽ യഹോവയും ദുഃഖിച്ചു.
