1 Samuel 12
1 Then Samuel said to all of Israel, “I have paid attention to everything you asked from me, and I have given you a king to rule over you.
Or Samuel dit à tout Israël: Voilà que j’ai entendu votre voix, selon tout ce que vous m’avez dit, et j’ai établi sur vous un roi.
2 Now your king is your leader. I am old and gray, and my sons are here with you. I have led you from the time I was a boy up to today.
Et maintenant ce roi marche devant vous; pour moi, j’ai vieilli, et j’ai blanchi; mais mes fils sont avec vous. C’est pourquoi, ayant vécu devant vous depuis ma jeunesse jusqu’à ce jour, me voici en votre présence.
3 I stand here before you. Bring any charges you have against me in the presence of the Lord and of his anointed one. Have I taken anyone's ox or donkey? Have I wronged anyone? Have I oppressed anyone? Have I accepted a bribe from anyone to turn a blind eye? Tell me, and I will repay you.”
Dites de moi devant le Seigneur et devant son christ, si j’ai pris le bœuf ou l’âne de personne, si j’ai calomnié qui que ce soit, si j’ai opprimé quelqu’un, si j’ai reçu un présent de la main de personne, je le dédaignerai aujourd’hui et je vous le rendrai.
4 “No, you have never cheated or oppressed us,” they replied, “and you have never taken anything from anyone.”
Et ils lui répondirent: Vous ne nous avez point calomniés, ni opprimés, et vous n’avez pris de la main de quelqu’un quoi que ce soit.
5 Samuel told them, “The Lord is a witness, and his anointed is a witness today, in this case involving you, that you have not found me guilty of anything.” “He is a witness,” they replied.
Il leur dit encore: Le Seigneur est témoin contre vous, et son christ aussi est témoin en ce jour, que vous n’avez trouvé dans ma main quoi que ce soit. Et ils répondirent: Témoin.
6 “The Lord is a witness, he who appointed Moses and Aaron,” Samuel went on. “He led your forefathers out of the land of Egypt.
Alors Samuel dit au peuple: Le Seigneur qui a fait Moïse et Aaron, et qui a retiré nos pères de la terre d’Égypte.
7 So stand here as I present to you in the presence of the Lord the evidence of all the good things the Lord has done for you and your forefathers.
Maintenant donc comparaissez, que je vous attaque en jugement devant le Seigneur, pour toutes les miséricordes du Seigneur, qu’il vous a faites, à vous et à vos pères,
8 After Jacob had gone to Egypt, your fathers cried out to the Lord for help, and he sent Moses and Aaron to lead your forefathers out of Egypt and settle them here.
Par la manière dont Jacob entra en Égypte, dont vos pères crièrent vers le Seigneur, dont le Seigneur envoya Moïse et Aaron, et dont il retira vos pères de l’Égypte, et dont il les établit dans ce lieu-ci.
9 But they forgot about the Lord their God, so he abandoned them to Sisera, the commander of the army of Hazor, to the Philistines, and to the king of Moab, who attacked them.
Ils oublièrent le Seigneur leur Dieu, et il les livra à la main de Sisara, chef de la milice d’Hasor, à la main des Philistins, et à la main du roi Moab, qui combattirent contre eux.
10 They cried out to the Lord for help and said, ‘We have sinned, for we have rejected the Lord and worshiped the Baals and Ashtoreths. Please save us from the hands of our enemies, and we will worship you.’
Mais ensuite ils crièrent vers le Seigneur et dirent: Nous avons péché, parce que nous avons abandonné le Seigneur, et nous avons servi les Baalim et les Astaroth: mais maintenant délivrez-nous de la main de nos ennemis, et nous vous servirons.
11 Then the Lord sent Gideon, Barak, Jephthah and Samuel, and he saved you from your enemies who surrounded you so you could live in safety.
Et le Seigneur envoya Jérobaal, Badan, Jephté et Samuel, et il vous délivra de la main de vos ennemis d’alentour, et vous avez habité cette terre avec assurance.
12 But when you saw that Nahash, king of the Ammonites, was coming to attack you, you told me, ‘No, we want our own king,’ even though the Lord your God was your king.
Cependant voyant que Naas, roi des enfants d’Ammon, était venu contre vous, vous m’avez dit: Point du tout; mais un roi nous gouvernera, lorsque le Seigneur votre Dieu régnait sur vous.
13 So here's the king you have chosen, the one you asked for. Look—the Lord now gives him to you as your king!
Maintenant donc il est là votre roi que vous avez choisi et demandé: voilà que le Seigneur vous a donné un roi.
14 If you honor the Lord, worship him, do what he tells you, and don't rebel against the Lord's instructions, and if both you and your king follow the Lord your God, then good!
Si vous craignez le Seigneur, et que vous le serviez, si vous entendez sa voix, et que vous n’exaspériez point la bouche du Seigneur, vous suivrez, et vous et le roi qui vous gouverne, le Seigneur votre Dieu;
15 However, if you refuse to do what he tells you, and rebel against the Lord's instructions, then the Lord will be against you as he was against your forefathers.
Mais si vous n’écoutez point la voix du Seigneur, et que vous exaspériez ses paroles, la main du Seigneur sera sur vous, et sur vos pères.
16 Now stand still and watch what the Lord is going to do, right before your very eyes.
Mais de plus, prenez garde maintenant, et voyez cette grande chose que va faire le Seigneur en votre présence.
17 Isn't it the time of wheat harvest? Well, I will ask the Lord to send thunder and rain. Then you will realize how very evil you were in the Lord's sight when you demanded your own king.”
N’est-ce pas la moisson du froment aujourd’hui? J’invoquerai le Seigneur, et il lancera des tonnerres et des pluies; et vous saurez, et vous verrez que vous avez fait un grand mal en la présence du Seigneur, demandant un roi au-dessus de vous.
18 Then Samuel prayed to the Lord, and that very day the Lord sent thunder and rain. Everyone was in absolute awe of the Lord and of Samuel.
Et Samuel cria vers le Seigneur, et le Seigneur lança des tonnerres et des pluies en ce jour-là.
19 “Please pray to the Lord your God for us your servants, so we will not die!” they begged Samuel. “For we have added to all our sins the evil of asking for our own king.”
Et tout le peuple craignit le Seigneur et Samuel, et le peuple entier dit à Samuel: Priez pour vos serviteurs le Seigneur votre Dieu, afin que nous ne mourions pas; car nous avons ajouté à tous nos autres péchés ce mal, que nous avons demandé pour nous un roi.
20 “Don't be afraid,” Samuel replied. “Even though you have indeed done all these evil things, don't give up following the Lord, but dedicate yourselves completely to worshiping him.
Mais Samuel répondit au peuple: Ne craignez point; c’est vous qui avez fait tout ce mal; mais cependant ne vous retirez pas en arrière du Seigneur, mais servez le Seigneur en tout votre cœur.
21 Don't worship worthless idols that can't help you or save you, for they are nothing.
Et ne vous tournez point vers les choses vaines qui ne vous serviront pas, et qui ne vous délivreront pas, parce quelles sont vaines.
22 The fact is because of the kind of person the Lord is, he won't give up on his people, because he was happy to claim you as his own.
Et le Seigneur n’abandonnera pas son peuple, à cause de son grand nom, parce que le Seigneur a juré de vous faire son peuple.
23 As for me, how could I sin against the Lord by no longer praying for you. I will also continue to teach you the way of goodness and right.
Mais loin de moi ce péché contre le Seigneur, que je cesse de prier pour vous; mais je vous enseignerai la voie bonne et droite.
24 Make sure you honor God and worship him faithfully, with complete dedication. Think of all the tremendous things he has done for you.
Ainsi, craignez le Seigneur, et servez-le en vérité et de tout votre cœur; car vous avez vu les grandes choses qu’il a faites parmi vous.
25 But if you continue to do what is evil, you and your king will be wiped out.”
Que si vous persévérez dans votre malice, et vous et votre roi vous périrez ensemble.
