1 Kings 22
1 For three years Aram and Israel were not at war.
তিন বছর অরাম ও ইস্রায়েলের মধ্যে কোনও যুদ্ধ হয়নি।
2 But in the third year Jehoshaphat, king of Judah, went to visit the king of Israel.
কিন্তু তৃতীয় বছরে যিহূদার রাজা যিহোশাফট ইস্রায়েলের রাজার সাথে দেখা করতে গেলেন।
3 The king of Israel had said to his officers, “Aren't you aware that Ramoth-gilead really belongs to us and yet we haven't done anything to take it back from the king of Aram?”
ইস্রায়েলের রাজা তাঁর কর্মকর্তাদের বললেন, “তোমরা কি জানো না যে রামোৎ-গিলিয়দ আমাদেরই, আর তাও আমরা অরামের রাজার হাত থেকে সেটি পুনরাধিকার করার জন্য কিছুই করছি না?”
4 So he asked Jehoshaphat, “Will you join me in an attack to recapture Ramoth-gilead?” Jehoshaphat replied to the king of Israel, “You and I are as one, my men and your men are as one, and my horses and your horses are as one.”
তাই তিনি যিহোশাফটকে জিজ্ঞাসা করলেন, “আপনি কি আমার সাথে রামোৎ-গিলিয়দ আক্রমণ করতে যাবেন?” যিহোশাফট ইস্রায়েলের রাজাকে উত্তর দিলেন, “আমি, আপনারই মতো, আমার প্রজারাও আপনার প্রজাদেরই মতো, তথা আমার ঘোড়াগুলি আপনার ঘোড়াগুলির মতোই।”
5 Then Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, “But first though, please find out what the Lord says.”
কিন্তু যিহোশাফট ইস্রায়েলের রাজাকে এও বললেন, “প্রথমে সদাপ্রভুর কাছে পরামর্শ চেয়ে নিন।”
6 So the king of Israel brought out the prophets—four hundred of them—and he asked them, “Should I go up and attack Ramoth-gilead, or should I not?” “Yes, go ahead,” they replied, “for the Lord will hand it over to the king.”
অতএব ইস্রায়েলের রাজা ভাববাদীদের—প্রায় চারশো জনকে—একত্রিত করলেন, এবং তাদের জিজ্ঞাসা করলেন, “আমি কি রামোৎ-গিলিয়দের বিরুদ্ধে যুদ্ধ করতে যাব, নাকি বিরত থাকব?” “যান,” তারা উত্তর দিয়েছিল, “কারণ সদাপ্রভু সেটি মহারাজের হাতে তুলে দেবেন।”
7 But Jehoshaphat asked, “Isn't there another prophet of the Lord here that we can ask?”
কিন্তু যিহোশাফট জিজ্ঞাসা করলেন, “এখানে কি সদাপ্রভুর এমন কোনও ভাববাদী আর নেই, যাঁর কাছে আমরা খোঁজখবর নিতে পারব?”
8 “Yes, there's another man who could consult the Lord,” the king of Israel replied, “but I don't like him because he never prophesies anything good for me—it's always bad! His name is Micaiah, son of Imlah.” “You shouldn't talk like that,” said Jehoshaphat.
ইস্রায়েলের রাজা, যিহোশাফটকে উত্তর দিলেন, “আরও একজন ভাববাদী আছেন, যার মাধ্যমে আমরা সদাপ্রভুর কাছে খোঁজখবর নিতে পারি, কিন্তু আমি তাকে ঘৃণা করি, যেহেতু সে কখনোই আমার বিষয়ে ভালো কিছু ভাববাণী করে না, কিন্তু সবসময় খারাপ ভাববাণীই করে। সে হল যিম্লের ছেলে মীখায়।” “মহারাজ এরকম কথা বলবেন না,” যিহোশাফট উত্তর দিলেন। “মহারাজ এরকম কথা বলবেন না,” যিহোশাফট উত্তর দিলেন।
9 The king of Israel called over one of his officials and told him, “Bring me Micaiah, son of Imlah, right away.”
তখন ইস্রায়েলের রাজা কর্মকর্তাদের মধ্যে একজনকে ডেকে বললেন, “এক্ষুনি গিয়ে যিম্লের ছেলে মীখায়কে ডেকে আনো।”
10 Dressed in their royal robes, the king of Israel and King Jehoshaphat of Judah, were sitting on their thrones at the threshing floor beside the gate of Samaria, with all of the prophets prophesying in front of them.
রাজপোশাক পরে ইস্রায়েলের রাজা ও যিহূদার রাজা যিহোশাফট, দুজনেই শমরিয়ার সিংহদুয়ারের কাছে খামারবাড়িতে তাদের সিংহাসনে বসেছিলেন, এবং ভাববাদীরা সবাই তাদের সামনে ভাববাণী করে যাচ্ছিল।
11 One of them, Zedekiah, son of Chenaanah, had made himself iron horns. He announced, “This is what the Lord says: ‘With these horns you will gore the Arameans until they're dead!”
ইত্যবসরে কেনান্নার ছেলে সিদিকিয় লোহার দুটি শিং তৈরি করল এবং সে ঘোষণা করল, “সদাপ্রভু একথাই বলেন: ‘অরামীয়রা ধ্বংস না হওয়া পর্যন্ত এগুলি দিয়েই আপনি তাদের গুঁতাবেন।’”
12 All the prophets were prophesying the same thing, saying, “Go ahead, attack Ramoth-gilead; you will be successful, for the Lord will hand it over to the king.”
অন্যান্য সব ভাববাদীও একই ভাববাণী করল। “রামোৎ-গিলিয়দ আক্রমণ করুন এবং বিজয়ী হোন,” তারা বলল, “কারণ সদাপ্রভু সেটি রাজার হাতে তুলে দেবেন।”
13 The messenger who went to call Micaiah told him, “Look, all the prophets are unanimous in prophesying positively to the king. So please make sure to speak positively like them.”
যে দূত মীখায়কে ডাকতে গেল, সে তাঁকে বলল, “দেখুন, অন্যান্য ভাববাদীরা সবাই কোনও আপত্তি না জানিয়ে রাজার পক্ষে সফলতার ভাববাণী করছে। আপনার কথাও যেন তাদেরই মতো হয়, এবং আপনিও সুবিধাজনক কথাই বলুন।”
14 But Micaiah replied, “As the Lord lives, I can only say what my God tells me.”
কিন্তু মীখায় বললেন, “জীবন্ত সদাপ্রভুর দিব্যি, সদাপ্রভু আমাকে যা বলেছেন, আমি তাঁকে শুধু সেকথাই বলতে পারব।”
15 When he came before the king, the king asked him, “Should we go up and attack Ramoth-gilead, or should we not?” “Yes, go ahead and be victorious,” Micaiah replied, “for the Lord will give it into the king's hand.”
তিনি সেখানে পৌঁছানোর পর রাজামশাই তাঁকে জিজ্ঞাসা করলেন, “মীখায়, আমরা রামোৎ-গিলিয়দের বিরুদ্ধে যুদ্ধযাত্রা করব, কি না?” “আক্রমণ করে জয়ী হোন,” তিনি উত্তর দিলেন, “কারণ সদাপ্রভু মহারাজের হাতে সেটি তুলে দেবেন।”
16 But the king said to him, “How many times must I make you swear to tell me only the truth in the name of the Lord?”
রাজা তাঁকে বললেন, “কতবার আমি তোমাকে দিয়ে শপথ করাব যে তুমি সদাপ্রভুর নামে আমাকে সত্যিকথা ছাড়া আর কিছুই বলবে না?”
17 So Micaiah answered, “I saw all Israel scattered on the mountains like sheep without a shepherd. The Lord said, ‘These people have no master; let each of them go home in peace.’”
তখন মীখায় উত্তর দিলেন, “আমি দেখতে পাচ্ছি, ইস্রায়েলীরা সবাই পাহাড়ের উপর পালকবিহীন মেষের পালের মতো হয়ে আছে, এবং সদাপ্রভু বলেছেন, ‘এই লোকজনের কোনও মনিব নেই। শান্তিতে যে যার ঘরে ফিরে যাক।’”
18 The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “Didn't I tell you he never prophesies anything good for me, only bad?”
ইস্রায়েলের রাজা যিহোশাফটকে বললেন, “আমি কি আপনাকে বলিনি যে সে আমার বিষয়ে কখনও ভালো কিছু ভাববাণী করে না, কিন্তু শুধু খারাপ ভাববাণীই করে?”
19 Micaiah went on to say, “So listen to what the Lord says. I saw the Lord sitting on his throne, surrounded by the whole army of heaven standing to his right and to his left.
মীখায় আরও বললেন, “এজন্য সদাপ্রভুর এই বাক্য শুনুন: আমি দেখলাম, সদাপ্রভু তাঁর সিংহাসনে বসে আছেন এবং স্বর্গের জনতা তাঁর চারদিকে, তাঁর ডানদিকে ও বাঁদিকে দাঁড়িয়ে আছে।
20 The Lord asked, ‘Who will trick Ahab, king of Israel, into attacking Ramoth-gilead so he will be killed there?’ One said this, another said that, and another said something else.
সদাপ্রভু বললেন, ‘রামোৎ-গিলিয়দ আক্রমণ করে সেখানে মরতে যাওয়ার জন্য কে আহাবকে প্ররোচিত করবে?’ “তখন কেউ একথা, কেউ সেকথা বলল।
21 Finally a spirit came and approached the Lord and said, ‘I will trick him.’
শেষে, একটি আত্মা এগিয়ে এসে সদাপ্রভুর সামনে দাঁড়িয়ে বলল, ‘আমি তাকে লোভ দেখাব।’
22 ‘How are you going to do that?’ the Lord asked. ‘I will go and be a lying spirit and make all his prophets tell lies,’ the spirit replied. ‘That will work,’ the Lord responded. ‘Go and do it.’
“কিন্তু কীভাবে? সদাপ্রভু জিজ্ঞাসা করলেন। “‘আমি গিয়ে তার সব ভাববাদীর মুখে বিভ্রান্তিকর এক আত্মা হব,’ সে বলল। “‘তাকে লোভ দেখাতে তুমি সফল হবে,’ সদাপ্রভু বললেন। ‘যাও, ওরকমই করো।’
23 As you see, the Lord has put a lying spirit into these prophets of yours, and the Lord has pronounced your death sentence.”
“তাই এখন সদাপ্রভু আপনার এইসব ভাববাদীর মুখে বিভ্রান্তিকর এক আত্মা দিয়েছেন। সদাপ্রভু আপনার জন্য বিপর্যয়ের বিধান দিয়েছেন।”
24 Then Zedekiah, son of Chenaanah, went and slapped Micaiah in the face, and demanded, “Which way did the Spirit of the Lord go when he left me to speak to you?”
তখন কেনান্নার ছেলে সিদিকিয় গিয়ে মীখায়ের গালে চড় মেরেছিল। “সদাপ্রভুর কাছ থেকে আসা আত্মা তোর সাথে কথা বলার জন্য কোন পথে আমার কাছ থেকে গেলেন?” সে জিজ্ঞাসা করল।
25 “You'll soon find out when you try and find some secret place to hide!” Micaiah replied.
মীখায় উত্তর দিলেন, “সেদিনই তুমি তা জানতে পারবে, যেদিন তুমি ভিতরের ঘরে গিয়ে লুকাবে।”
26 The king of Israel ordered, “Place Micaiah under arrest and take him back to Amon the governor of the city and to my son Joash.
ইস্রায়েলের রাজা তখন আদেশ দিলেন, “মীখায়কে নগরের শাসনকর্তা আমোন ও রাজপুত্র যোয়াশের কাছে ফেরত পাঠিয়ে দাও
27 Tell them these are the king's instructions: ‘Put this man in jail. Give him only bread and water until my safe return.’”
এবং তাদের বোলো, ‘রাজা একথাই বলেছেন: একে জেলখানায় রেখে দাও এবং যতদিন না আমি নিরাপদে ফিরে আসছি, ততদিন একে রুটি ও জল ছাড়া আর কিছুই দিয়ো না।’”
28 “If you do in fact return safely then the Lord has not spoken through me,” Micaiah declared. “Pay attention everyone to all I've said!”
মীখায় ঘোষণা করলেন, “আপনি যদি নিরাপদে কখনও ফিরে আসেন, তবে জানবেন, সদাপ্রভু আমার মাধ্যমে কথা বলেননি।” পরে তিনি আরও বললেন, “ওহে লোকজন, তোমরা সবাই আমার কথাগুলি মনে গেঁথে রাখো!”
29 The king of Israel and Jehoshaphat, king of Judah, went to attack Ramoth-gilead.
অতএব ইস্রায়েলের রাজা ও যিহূদার রাজা যিহোশাফট রামোৎ-গিলিয়দে চলে গেলেন।
30 The king of Israel told Jehoshaphat, “When I go into battle I will be in disguise, but you should wear your royal robes.” So the king of Israel disguised himself and went into battle.
ইস্রায়েলের রাজা যিহোশাফটকে বললেন, “আমি ছদ্মবেশ ধারণ করে যুদ্ধক্ষেত্রে প্রবেশ করব, কিন্তু আপনি আপনার রাজপোশাক পরে থাকুন।” এইভাবে ইস্রায়েলের রাজা ছদ্মবেশ ধারণ করে যুদ্ধে গেলেন।
31 The king of Aram had already given these orders to his chariot commanders: “Head straight for the king of Israel alone. Don't fight with anyone else, whoever they are.”
ইত্যবসরে অরামের রাজা তাঁর রথের বত্রিশজন সেনাপতিকে আদেশ দিয়ে রেখেছিলেন, “একমাত্র ইস্রায়েলের রাজা ছাড়া, ছোটো বা বড়ো, কোনো লোকের সাথে যুদ্ধ করবে না।”
32 So when the chariot commanders saw Jehoshaphat, they shouted, “This must be the king of Israel!” So they turned to attack him, but when Jehoshaphat called out for help,
রথের দায়িত্বপ্রাপ্ত সেনাপতিরা যিহোশাফটকে দেখে ভেবেছিল, “ইনিই নিশ্চয় ইস্রায়েলের রাজা।” তাই তাঁকে আক্রমণ করার জন্য তারা ঘুরে দাঁড়িয়েছিল, কিন্তু যিহোশাফট যখন চিৎকার করে উঠেছিলেন,
33 the chariot commanders saw it wasn't the king of Israel and stopped chasing him.
রথের সেনাপতিরা যখন দেখেছিল যে তিনি ইস্রায়েলের রাজা নন, তারা তাঁর পিছু ধাওয়া করা বন্ধ করে দিয়েছিল।
34 However, an enemy archer shot an arrow at random, hitting the king of Israel between the joints of his armor by his breastplate. The king told his charioteer, “Turn around and get me out of the fight, because I've been wounded!”
কিন্তু কেউ একজন আন্দাজে ধনুক চালিয়ে ইস্রায়েলের রাজার দেহে যেখানে বর্মের ঘেরাটোপ ছিল না, সেখানেই আঘাত করে বসেছিল। রাজামশাই তাঁর রথের সারথিকে বললেন, “রথের মুখ ঘুরিয়ে আমাকে যুদ্ধক্ষেত্রের বাইরে নিয়ে যাও। আমি আহত হয়েছি।”
35 The battle lasted all day. The king of Israel was propped up in his chariot to face the Arameans, but in the evening he died. The blood had poured out of his wound onto the floor of the chariot.
সারাদিন ধরে তুমুল যুদ্ধ চলেছিল, এবং অরামীয়দের দিকে মুখ করে রাজামশাইকে তাঁর রথে ঠেস দিয়ে খাড়া করে রাখা হল। তাঁর ক্ষতস্থান থেকে ঝরে পড়া রক্তে রথের মেঝে ভেসে গেল, এবং সেই সন্ধ্যায় তিনি মারা গেলেন।
36 At sunset, a shout went out from the lines: “Retreat! Every man back to his town, every man back to his own country!”
সূর্য যখন অস্ত যাচ্ছিল, তখন সৈন্যদলে এই হাহাকার ছড়িয়ে পড়েছিল, “প্রত্যেকে নিজের নিজের নগরে ফিরে যাও। প্রত্যেকে নিজের নিজের দেশে ফিরে যাও!”
37 So the king died. He was taken back to Samaria where they buried him.
অতএব রাজামশাই মারা গেলেন ও তাঁর দেহ শমরিয়ায় আনা হল, এবং লোকেরা তাঁকে সেখানেই কবর দিয়েছিল।
38 They washed his chariot at a pool in Samaria where the prostitutes came to bathe, and dogs licked up his blood, just as the Lord had said.
তারা শমরিয়ার একটি পুকুরে রথটি ধুয়েছিল (যেখানে বারবণিতারা স্নান করত), আর সদাপ্রভুর ঘোষিত কথানুসারে কুকুরেরা তাঁর রক্ত চেটে খেয়েছিল।
39 The rest of what happened in Ahab's reign, all that he did, the ivory palace he constructed and all the cities he built are recorded in the Book of Chronicles of the Kings of Israel.
আহাবের রাজত্বকালের অন্যান্য সব ঘটনা, এছাড়াও তিনি যা যা করলেন, যে প্রাসাদ তিনি তৈরি করলেন ও হাতির দাঁত দিয়ে সাজিয়ে তুলেছিলেন, এবং যেসব নগর তিনি সুরক্ষিত করলেন—তার বিবরণ কি ইস্রায়েলের রাজাদের ইতিহাস-গ্রন্থে লেখা নেই?
40 Ahab died and his son Ahaziah succeeded him as king.
আহাব তাঁর পূর্বপুরুষদের সঙ্গে চিরবিশ্রামে শায়িত হলেন। তাঁর ছেলে অহসিয় রাজারূপে তাঁর স্থলাভিষিক্ত হলেন।
41 Jehoshaphat, son of Asa, became king of Judah in the fourth year of the reign of Ahab, king of Israel.
ইস্রায়েলের রাজা আহাবের রাজত্বের চতুর্থ বছরে আসার ছেলে যিহোশাফট যিহূদায় রাজা হলেন।
42 Jehoshaphat was thirty-five when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem for twenty-five years. His mother's name was Azubah, daughter of Shilhi.
যিহোশাফট পঁয়ত্রিশ বছর বয়সে রাজা হলেন, এবং জেরুশালেমে তিনি পঁচিশ বছর রাজত্ব করলেন। তাঁর মায়ের নাম অসূবা। তিনি শিলহির মেয়ে ছিলেন।
43 He followed all the ways of his father; he did not depart from them, and he did what was right in the Lord's sight. However, the high places were not removed and the people still sacrificed and presented offerings there.
সবকিছুতেই তিনি তাঁর বাবা আসার পথে চলেছিলেন এবং সেগুলি থেকে সরে যাননি; সদাপ্রভুর দৃষ্টিতে যা ন্যায্য, তিনি তাই করলেন। অবশ্য প্রতিমাপূজার উঁচু উঁচু স্থানগুলি সরানো হয়নি, এবং লোকজন তখনও সেগুলিতে পশুবলি উৎসর্গ করে যাচ্ছিল ও ধূপও জ্বালিয়ে যাচ্ছিল।
44 Jehoshaphat also made peace with the king of Israel.
ইস্রায়েলের রাজার সঙ্গেও যিহোশাফটের শান্তি বজায় ছিল।
45 The rest of what happened in Jehoshaphat's reign, his great achievements and the wars he fought are recorded in the Book of Chronicles of the Kings of Judah.
যিহোশাফটের রাজত্বকালের অন্যান্য সব ঘটনা, তিনি যা যা অর্জন করলেন ও তাঁর সামরিক উজ্জ্বল সব কীর্তি—তার বিবরণ কি যিহূদার রাজাদের ইতিহাস-গ্রন্থে লেখা নেই?
46 He expelled from the land any cult prostitutes who were left from the time of his father Asa.
তাঁর বাবা আসার রাজত্বকালে দেবদাসদের দেশ থেকে বের করে দেওয়ার পরেও দেশে যেসব দেবদাস থেকে গেল, যিহোশাফট তাদেরও দূর করে দিলেন।
47 (At that time there was no king in Edom; only a deputy who served as king.)
ইদোমে তখন কোনও রাজা ছিল না; একজন প্রাদেশিক শাসনকর্তা সেখানে শাসন চালাচ্ছিলেন।
48 Jehoshaphat built sea-going ships to go to Ophir for gold, but they went because they were wrecked at Ezion-geber.
ইত্যবসরে ওফীর থেকে সোনা আনার জন্য যিহোশাফট বাণিজ্যতরির এক নৌবহর তৈরি করলেন, কিন্তু সেগুলির আর যাওয়া হয়ে ওঠেনি—কারণ ইৎসিয়োন-গেবরে সেগুলি সমুদ্রে ডুবে গেল।
49 During that time Ahaziah, son of Ahab, asked Jehoshaphat, “Let my men sail with your men,” but Jehoshaphat refused.
সেই সময় আহাবের ছেলে অহসিয় যিহোশাফটকে বললেন, “আমার লোকজন আপনার লোকজনের সাথে সমুদ্রে পাড়ি দিক,” কিন্তু যিহোশাফট এতে রাজি হননি।
50 Jehoshaphat died and was buried with his forefathers in the City of David. His son Jehoram succeeded him as king.
পরে যিহোশাফট তাঁর পূর্বপুরুষদের সাথে চিরবিশ্রামে শায়িত হলেন এবং তাঁকে তাদেরই সাথে তাঁর পূর্বপুরুষ দাউদের নগরে কবর দেওয়া হল। তাঁর ছেলে যিহোরাম রাজারূপে তাঁর স্থলাভিষিক্ত হলেন।
51 Ahaziah, son of Ahab, became king of Israel in Samaria in the seventeenth year of Jehoshaphat, king of Judah, and he reigned over Israel for two years.
যিহূদার রাজা যিহোশাফটের রাজত্বের সতেরতম বছরে আহাবের ছেলে অহসিয় শমরিয়ায় ইস্রায়েলের রাজা হলেন, এবং তিনি দুই বছর ইস্রায়েলে রাজত্ব করলেন।
52 He did what was evil in the Lord's sight and followed the ways of his father and mother, and of Jeroboam, son of Nebat, who had made Israel sin.
সদাপ্রভুর দৃষ্টিতে যা মন্দ, তিনি তাই করলেন, কারণ তিনি তাঁর বাবা, মা, ও নবাটের ছেলে সেই যারবিয়ামের পথেই চলেছিলেন, যারা ইস্রায়েলকে দিয়ে পাপ করিয়েছিলেন।
53 He served Baal and worshiped him, and angered the Lord, the God of Israel, just as his father had.
তিনি তাঁর বাবার মতোই বায়ালের সেবা ও পুজো করলেন, এবং ইস্রায়েলের ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভুর ক্রোধ জাগিয়ে তুলেছিলেন।
