1 Kings 18
1 Sometime later, during the third year, a message from the Lord came to Elijah: “Go and appear before Ahab, and I will send rain on the earth.”
௧அநேகநாட்கள் சென்று, மூன்றாம் வருடமாகும்போது, யெகோவாவுடைய வார்த்தை எலியாவுக்கு உண்டாகி: நீ போய் ஆகாபுக்கு உன்னைக் காண்பி; நான் தேசத்தின்மேல் மழையைக் கட்டளையிடுவேன் என்றார்.
2 So Elijah went to appear before Ahab. In the meantime the famine had become severe in Samaria.
௨அப்பொழுது எலியா ஆகாபுக்குத் தன்னைக் காண்பிக்கப்போனான்; பஞ்சமோ சமாரியாவிலே கொடியதாக இருந்தது.
3 Ahab summoned Obadiah, the manager of his palace (Obadiah was a very sincere believer in the Lord.
௩ஆனபடியால் ஆகாப் அரண்மனைப் பொருப்பாளனாகிய ஒபதியாவை அழைத்தான்; ஒபதியா யெகோவாவுக்கு மிகவும் பயந்து நடக்கிறவனாக இருந்தான்.
4 While Jezebel was busy killing the Lord's prophets, Obadiah had taken one hundred prophets and hidden them, fifty in each of two caves, and had provided them with food and water.)
௪யேசபேல் யெகோவாவின் தீர்க்கதரிசிகளைக் கொல்லுகிறபோது, ஒபதியா நூறு தீர்க்கதரிசிகளைச் சேர்த்து, அவர்களைக் கெபிக்கு ஐம்பது ஐம்பது பேராக மறைத்துவைத்து, அவர்களுக்கு அப்பமும் தண்ணீரும் கொடுத்து, அவர்களைப் பராமரித்துவந்தான்.
5 Ahab told Obadiah, “Go throughout the country and check all the springs and valleys. Perhaps we can find some grass to keep the horses and mules alive so we will not lose any of the animals.”
௫ஆகாப் ஒபதியாவைப் பார்த்து: நீ தேசத்திலிருக்கிற எல்லா நீரூற்றுகளிடத்திலும், எல்லா ஆறுகளிடத்திலும் போ; நாம் எல்லா மிருகஜீவன்களையும் சாகவிடாமல், குதிரைகளையும் கோவேறு கழுதைகளையுமாவது உயிரோடு காப்பாற்றும்படிக்கு நமக்குப் புல் கிடைக்குமா என்று பார் என்றான்.
6 So they divided the land between them. Ahab went in one direction, and Obadiah the other.
௬அப்படியே தேசத்தைச் சுற்றிப்பார்க்கும்படி, அதைப் பிரித்துக்கொண்டு, ஆகாப் ஒரு வழியாகவும், ஒபதியா வேறொரு வழியாகவும் போனார்கள்.
7 As Obadiah went on his way, Elijah came to meet him. Obadiah recognized him, bowed down to the ground, and said, “Is it you, my lord Elijah?”
௭ஒபதியா வழியில் போகும்போது, எலியா அவனுக்கு எதிராக வந்தான்; அவன் எலியாவை இன்னான் என்று அறிந்து, முகங்குப்புற விழுந்து, நீர் என்னுடைய எஜமானாகிய எலியா அல்லவா என்று கேட்டதற்கு;
8 “It's me,” Elijah replied. “Go and tell your master, ‘Elijah is here.’”

9 “How have I sinned that you are handing me, your servant, over to Ahab to be killed?

10 As the Lord your God lives, there's no nation or kingdom where my master hasn't sent someone to search for you. When a nation or kingdom said you weren't there, he made them swear that they couldn't find you.
௧0உம்மைத் தேடும்படி என்னுடைய எஜமான் மனிதர்களை அனுப்பாத தேசமும் ராஜ்ஜியமும் இல்லை என்று உம்முடைய தேவனாகிய யெகோவாவின் ஜீவனைக்கொண்டு சொல்லுகிறேன்; நீர் இல்லையென்று அவர்கள் சொன்னபோது, அவன் அந்த ராஜ்ஜியத்திலும் அந்த தேசத்திலும் உம்மைக் காணவில்லை என்று சத்தியம் வாங்கிக்கொண்டான்.
11 And now you're telling me to go to my master and announce, ‘Elijah is here!’
௧௧இப்போதும் நீ போய், உன்னுடைய எஜமானுக்கு, இதோ, எலியா வந்திருக்கிறான் என்று சொல் என்று நீர் சொல்லுகிறீரே.
12 I have no idea where the Spirit of the Lord will take you after I leave you. If I go and tell Ahab and then he can't find you, he's going to kill me, even though I, your servant, have worshiped the Lord since I was young.
௧௨நான் உம்மை விட்டுப்போனவுடனே ஒருவேளை யெகோவாவுடைய ஆவியானவர் உம்மை எடுத்து, நான் அறியாத இடத்திற்குக் கொண்டுபோவார்; அப்பொழுது நான் ஆகாபிடம் போய் அறிவித்த பின்பு, அவன் உம்மைக் பார்க்காவிட்டால், என்னைக் கொன்றுபோடுவானே; உமது அடியானாகிய நான் சிறுவயது முதல் யெகோவாவுக்குப் பயந்து நடக்கிறவன்.
13 Didn't you hear, my lord, what I did when Jezebel was busy killing the Lord's prophets? I hid a hundred of the Lord's prophets, fifty in each of two caves, and provided them with food and water.
௧௩யேசபேல் யெகோவாவின் தீர்க்கதரிசிகளைக் கொன்றுபோடுகிறபோது, நான் யெகோவாவுடைய தீர்க்கதரிசிகளில் நூறுபேரை ஒவ்வொரு குகையிலே ஐம்பது ஐம்பதுபேராக மறைத்துவைத்து, அவர்களுக்கு அப்பமும் தண்ணீரும் கொடுத்து, பராமரித்துவந்த என்னுடைய செயல் என்னுடைய எஜமானுக்கு அறிவிக்கப்படவில்லையோ?
14 And now you're telling me to go to my master and announce, ‘Elijah is here.’ He's going to kill me!”
௧௪இப்போதும் என்னுடைய எஜமான் என்னைக் கொன்றுபோட, நீர்: இதோ, எலியா வந்திருக்கிறான் என்று போய் அவனுக்குச் சொல் என்று சொல்லுகிறீரே என்றான்.
15 Elijah replied, “As the Lord Almighty lives, the one I serve, I will definitely appear before Ahab today.”
௧௫அதற்கு எலியா: இன்றைக்கு என்னை அவனுக்குக் காண்பிப்பேன் என்று சேனைகளின் யெகோவாவுக்கு முன்பாக நிற்கிற நான் அவருடைய ஜீவனைக் கொண்டு சொல்லுகிறேன் என்றான்.
16 So Obadiah went to meet Ahab and told him, and Ahab went to meet Elijah.
௧௬அப்பொழுது ஒபதியா போய், ஆகாபைச் சந்தித்து அவனுக்கு அதை அறிவித்தவுடன், ஆகாப் எலியாவைச் சந்திக்கப்போனான்.
17 When Ahab saw Elijah, he said to him, “Is that you—you who are causing trouble for Israel?”
௧௭ஆகாப் எலியாவைக் கண்டபோது, ஆகாப் அவனை நோக்கி: இஸ்ரவேலைக் கலங்கச்செய்கிறவன் நீயல்லவா என்றான்.
18 “I'm not causing trouble for Israel,” Elijah replied. “It's you and your father's family! You have rejected the Lord's commands and are worshiping the Baals.
௧௮அதற்கு அவன்: இஸ்ரவேலைக் கலங்கச்செய்கிறவன் நான் அல்ல; யெகோவாவின் கட்டளைகளைவிட்டு பாகால்களைப் பின்பற்றியதால் நீரும் உம்முடைய தகப்பன் வீட்டாருமே இஸ்ரவேலைக் கலங்கச்செய்கிறவர்கள்.
19 Now call together all of Israel and meet me on Mount Carmel, along with the four hundred and fifty prophets of Baal and the four hundred prophets of Asherah, who are supported by Jezebel.”
௧௯இப்போதும் கர்மேல் பர்வதத்திலே இஸ்ரவேலனைத்தையும், பாகாலின் தீர்க்கதரிசிகள் 450 பேரையும், யேசபேலின் பந்தியிலே சாப்பிடுகிற தோப்புவிக்கிரகத்தின் தீர்க்கதரிசிகள் 400 பேரையும் என்னிடம் கூட்டிக்கொண்டுவர ஆட்களை அனுப்பும் என்றான்.
20 So Ahab summoned all of Israel and also gathered the prophets on Mount Carmel.
௨0அப்படியே ஆகாப்: இஸ்ரவேல் மக்கள் எல்லோரிடத்திலும் ஆட்களை அனுப்பி, கர்மேல் பர்வதத்திலே அந்தத் தீர்க்கதரிசிகளைக் கூடிவரும்படி செய்தான்.
21 Elijah approached the people and asked them, “How long will you hobble along, hesitating between two opposite beliefs? If the Lord is God, then follow him. But if Baal is God, then follow him.” But the people gave o answer.
௨௧அப்பொழுது எலியா எல்லா மக்களுக்கும் அருகில் வந்து: நீங்கள் எதுவரைக்கும் இரண்டு நினைவுகளால் குந்திக்குந்தி நடப்பீர்கள்; யெகோவா தெய்வம் என்றால் அவரைப் பின்பற்றுங்கள்; பாகால் தெய்வம் என்றால் அவனைப் பின்பற்றுங்கள் என்றான், மக்கள் மறுமொழியாக அவனுக்கு ஒன்றும் சொல்லவில்லை.
22 Then Elijah told them, “I am the only one left of the Lord's prophets—just me alone—but Baal has four hundred and fifty prophets.
௨௨அப்பொழுது எலியா மக்களை நோக்கி: யெகோவாவின் தீர்க்கதரிசிகளில் மீதியாக இருக்கிறவன் நான் ஒருவன்; பாகாலின் தீர்க்கதரிசிகளோ 450 பேர்.
23 Provide us with two bulls. Let the prophets of Baal choose for themselves the one they want, and have them cut it into pieces and place it on the firewood. But don't set fire to it. I will prepare the other bull and place it on the firewood but I won't set fire to it.

24 Then you call on your god by name, and I will call on the Lord by name. The god who replies by sending fire—he is God.” Then all the people said, “We agree to what you say.”
௨௪நீங்கள் உங்களுடைய தெய்வத்தின் நாமத்தைச் சொல்லிக் கூப்பிடுங்கள்; நான் யெகோவாவுடைய நாமத்தைச் சொல்லிக் கூப்பிடுவேன்; அப்பொழுது அக்கினியால் பதில் சொல்லும் தெய்வமே தெய்வம் என்றான்; அதற்கு மக்களெல்லோரும் இது நல்ல வார்த்தை என்றார்கள்.
25 Elijah said to the prophets of Baal, “You choose one of the bulls and prepare it first, because there are so many of you. Call on your god by name, but don't light the fire.”
௨௫அப்பொழுது எலியா பாகாலின் தீர்க்கதரிசிகளை நோக்கி: நீங்கள் அநேகராக இருப்பதால் நீங்களே முந்தி ஒரு காளையைத் தெரிந்துகொண்டு அதை ஆயத்தம்செய்து, நெருப்புப்போடாமல் உங்கள் தெய்வத்தினுடைய நாமத்தைச் சொல்லிக் கூப்பிடுங்கள் என்றான்.
26 So they took the bull provided and prepared it. Then they called on Baal by name from morning until noon. “Baal, answer us!” they pleaded. But no voice was heard, no one answered. They hobbled in a dance around the altar they had made.
௨௬தங்களுக்குக் கொடுக்கப்பட்ட காளையை அவர்கள் வாங்கி, அதை ஆயத்தம்செய்து: பாகாலே, எங்களுக்கு பதில் சொல்லும் என்று காலைதுவங்கி மத்தியானம்வரை பாகாலின் நாமத்தைச் சொல்லிக் கூப்பிட்டார்கள்; ஆனாலும் ஒரு சத்தமும் வரவில்லை, பதில் கொடுப்பவரும் இல்லை. அவர்கள் கட்டின பலிபீடத்திற்கு எதிரே குதித்து ஆடினார்கள்.
27 At noon Elijah began to mock them. “Shout really loud!” he said. “Isn't he meant to be a god? Maybe he's meditating, or he's gone to the bathroom, or he's away on a trip! Maybe he's asleep and has to be woken up!”
௨௭மத்தியானவேளையில் எலியா அவர்களை கேலிசெய்து: உரத்த சத்தமாகக் கூப்பிடுங்கள்; அவன் தெய்வமாமே, அவன் தியானத்தில் இருப்பான்; அல்லது வேலையாக இருப்பான்; அல்லது பயணம் போயிருப்பான்; அல்லது தூங்கினாலும் தூங்குவான்; அவனை எழுப்பவேண்டியதாக இருக்கும் என்றான்.
28 They shouted even louder and cut themselves with swords and spears until they bled. This was their usual way of worshiping.
௨௮அவர்கள் உரத்தசத்தமாகக் கூப்பிட்டு, தங்களுடைய வழக்கத்தின்படியே இரத்தம் தங்கள்மேல் வடியும்வரை கத்திகளாலும் ஈட்டிகளாலும் தங்களைக் கீறிக்கொண்டார்கள்.
29 Noon came and went, and they went on with their manic “prophesying” until the time of the evening sacrifice. But no voice was heard, no one answered, no one was listening.
௨௯மத்தியானவேளை சென்றபின்பு, மாலைபலி செலுத்தும் நேரம்வரை கூப்பிட்டுக்கொண்டிருந்தார்கள்; ஆனாலும் ஒரு சத்தமும் பிறக்கவில்லை, பதில் கொடுப்பவரும் இல்லை, கவனிப்பவர்களும் இல்லை.
30 Then Elijah told everyone, “Come over here to me.” They went over to him, and he repaired the altar of the Lord that had been torn down.
௩0அப்பொழுது எலியா எல்லா மக்களையும் நோக்கி: என் அருகில் வாருங்கள் என்றான்; எல்லா மக்களும் அவன் அருகில் வந்தபோது, தகர்க்கப்பட்ட யெகோவாவுடைய பலிபீடத்தை அவன் பழுதுபார்த்து:
31 Elijah took twelve stones to represent the tribes of the sons of Jacob. (Jacob was the one who received the Lord's message that said, “Israel shall be your name.”)
௩௧உனக்கு இஸ்ரவேல் என்னும் பெயர் இருப்பதாக என்று சொல்லி, யெகோவாவுடைய வார்த்தையைப்பெற்ற யாக்கோபுடைய மகன்களால் உண்டான கோத்திரங்களுடைய எண்ணிக்கையின்படியே, பன்னிரண்டு கற்களை எடுத்து,
32 With the stones he built an altar in the Lord's name. He dug a ditch around it that could hold two seahs of seed.
௩௨அந்தக் கற்களால் யெகோவாவுடைய நாமத்திற்கென்று ஒரு பலிபீடத்தைக் கட்டி, பலிபீடத்தைச் சுற்றிலும் தானியம் அளக்கிற இரண்டுபடி விதை விதைக்கத்தக்க இடம் இருக்கும்படி ஒரு வாய்க்காலை உண்டாக்கி,
33 He put the wood in place, cut the bull into pieces, and laid it on the wood. Then he told them, “Fill up four large jars with water and pour it over the offering and the wood.”
௩௩விறகுகளை அடுக்கி, ஒரு காளையைத் துண்டு துண்டாக துண்டித்து விறகுகளின்மேல் வைத்தான்.
34 “Do it again,” he said. So they did. “Do it for a third time,” he said. So they did it for the third time.

35 The water ran down all over the altar and even filled the ditch.
௩௫அப்பொழுது தண்ணீர் பலிபீடத்தைச் சுற்றிலும் ஓடியது; வாய்க்காலையும் தண்ணீரால் நிரப்பினான்.
36 At the time of the evening sacrifice, the prophet Elijah went over to the altar and prayed: “Lord, God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, demonstrate today that you are God in Israel, that I am your servant, and that everything I have done has been at your command.
௩௬மாலைபலி செலுத்தும் நேரத்திலே, தீர்க்கதரிசியாகிய எலியா வந்து; ஆபிரகாமுக்கும் ஈசாக்குக்கும் யாக்கோபுக்கும் தேவனாகிய யெகோவாவே, இஸ்ரவேலிலே நீர் தேவன் என்றும், நான் உம்முடைய ஊழியக்காரன் என்றும், நான் இந்தக் காரியங்களையெல்லாம் உம்முடைய வார்த்தையின்படிச்செய்தேன் என்றும் இன்றைக்கு விளங்கச்செய்யும்.
37 Answer me, Lord! Answer me, so that these people will know that you, Lord, are God, and that you are bringing them back to you.”
௩௭யெகோவாவே, நீர் தேவனாகிய யெகோவா என்றும், தேவரீர் தங்களுடைய இருதயத்தை மறுபடியும் திருப்பினீர் என்றும் இந்த மக்கள் அறியும்படி, என்னைக் கேட்டருளும், என்னைக் கேட்டருளும் என்றான்.
38 Then the fire of the Lord came down and burned up the sacrifice, the wood, the stones, and the soil—it even licked up the water in the ditch!
௩௮அப்பொழுது: யெகோவாவிடத்தில் இருந்து அக்கினி இறங்கி, அந்தச் சர்வாங்க தகனபலியையும், விறகுகளையும், கற்களையும், மண்ணையும் எரித்து, வாய்க்காலிலிருந்த தண்ணீரையும் நக்கிப்போட்டது.
39 When all the people saw this, they fell face down on the ground and shouted, “The Lord, he is God! The Lord, he is God!”
௩௯மக்களெல்லோரும் இதைக் கண்டபோது, முகங்குப்புற விழுந்து: யெகோவாவே தெய்வம், யெகோவாவே தெய்வம் என்றார்கள்.
40 Then Elijah ordered them, “Grab hold of the prophets of Baal. Don't let any escape!” They grabbed them, and Elijah brought them down to the Kishon Valley and killed them there.
௪0அப்பொழுது எலியா அவர்களை நோக்கி: நீங்கள் பாகாலின் தீர்க்கதரிசிகளில் ஒருவனும் தப்பிப்போகாதபடி அவர்களைப் பிடியுங்கள் என்றான்; அவர்களைப் பிடித்தபோது, எலியா அவர்களைக் கீழே கீசோன் ஆற்றங்கரையிலே கொண்டுபோய், அங்கே அவர்களை வெட்டிப்போட்டான்.
41 Elijah told Ahab, “Go and eat and drink, for I hear the sound of a heavy rain coming.”
௪௧பின்பு எலியா ஆகாபை நோக்கி: நீர் போம், சாப்பிட்டு குடியும், பெருமழையின் இரைச்சல் கேட்கப்படுகிறது என்றான்.
42 So Ahab went to eat and drink, but Elijah went to the top of Carmel. There he bent down to the ground, putting his face between his knees.
௪௨ஆகாப் சாப்பிட்டு குடிக்கப்போனான்; பின்பு எலியா கர்மேல் மலையிலுள்ள சிகரத்தின்மேல் ஏறி, தரையிலே பணிந்து, தன்னுடைய முகம் தன்னுடைய முழங்காலில் படும்படிக்குனிந்து,
43 “Go and look toward the sea,” he told his servant. The man went and looked. “There's nothing there,” he said. Seven times Elijah told him, “Go and look again.”
௪௩தன்னுடைய ஊழியக்காரனை நோக்கி: நீ போய் சமுத்திரத்தை நோக்கிப் பார் என்றான்; அவன் போய்ப் பார்த்து, ஒன்றும் இல்லை என்றான்; நீ இன்னும் ஏழுமுறை போய்ப் பார் என்றான்.
44 The seventh time the servant came back and said, “I saw a small cloud the size of a man's hand coming up from the sea.” So Elijah said, “Run to Ahab and tell him, ‘Get your chariot ready and go down before the rain stops you.’”
௪௪ஏழாவது முறை இவன்: இதோ, சமுத்திரத்திலிருந்து ஒரு மனிதனுடைய உள்ளங்கை அளவுள்ள ஒரு சிறிய மேகம் எழும்புகிறது என்றான்; அப்பொழுது அவன் நீ போய், ஆகாபை நோக்கி: மழை உம்மைத் தடைசெய்யாதபடி இரதத்தைப் பூட்டி, போய்விடும் என்று சொல் என்றான்.
45 Very quickly the sky grew dark with clouds, the wind blew, heavy rain started falling, and Ahab rode down to Jezreel.
௪௫அதற்குள்ளாக வானம் மேகங்களினாலும் காற்றினாலும் இருண்டு பெருமழை உண்டானது; ஆகாப் இரதத்தில் ஏறி யெஸ்ரயேலுக்குப் போனான்.
46 The Lord gave his power to Elijah—he tucked his cloak into his belt and ran ahead of Ahab all the way to Jezreel.
௪௬யெகோவாவுடைய கை எலியாவின்மேல் இருந்ததால், அவன் தன்னுடைய அரையைக் கட்டிக்கொண்டு, யெஸ்ரயேலுக்கு வரும்வரை ஆகாபுக்கு முன்னே ஓடினான்.
