1 Chronicles 11

1 All the Israelites gathered to meet with David in Hebron. They told him, “We are your flesh and blood.

Entonces todo Israel se congregó ante David en Hebrón y dijeron: Aquí estamos, somos hueso tuyo y carne tuya.

2 In recent times, even though Saul was king, you were the real leader of Israel. The Lord your God told you, ‘You will be the shepherd of my people, and you will be the leader of my people Israel.’”

Porque en días anteriores, cuando aún Saúl era rey, tú sacabas y devolvías a Israel, y Yavé tu ʼElohim te dijo: Tú apacentarás a mi pueblo Israel y serás el soberano de mi pueblo Israel.

3 All the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron, and David made a solemn agreement with them before the Lord. There they anointed David as king of Israel, as the Lord had promised through Samuel.

Cuando los ancianos de Israel fueron ante el rey en Hebrón, David hizo un pacto delante de Yavé. Entonces ungieron a David como rey sobre Israel, según la Palabra que Yavé dio por medio de Samuel.

4 Then David and all the Israelites went to Jerusalem (formerly known as Jebus) where the Jebusites lived.

Entonces David fue con todo Israel a Jerusalén, la cual es Jebús. Los jebuseos vivían en aquella tierra.

5 The Jebusites told David, “You will not enter here!” But David did capture the fortress of Zion, now known as the City of David.

Los habitantes de Jebús dijeron a David: No entrarás aquí. Pero David capturó la fortaleza de Sion, que es la Ciudad de David.

6 David had said, “Whoever is first to attack the Jebusites will be my commander-in-chief.” Since Joab, son of Zeruiah, was the first, he became commander-in-chief.

David dijo: El que primero ataque a los jebuseos será jefe y comandante. Entonces Joab, hijo de Sarvia, subió primero y fue designado comandante.

7 David decided to love in the fortress, which is why they named it after him the City of David.

David vivió en la fortaleza. Por esto la llamaron Ciudad de David.

8 He built up the city all around it, from the Millo in a circuit all around, while Joab repaired the rest of the city.

Edificó la ciudad alrededor, desde el terraplén hasta el muro. Joab restauró el resto de la ciudad.

9 David became more and more powerful, for the Lord Almighty was with him.

David se engrandecía cada vez más, porque Yavé de las huestes estaba con él.

10 These were the leaders of David's powerful warriors who, along with all the Israelites, gave him strong support in becoming king, just as the Lord had promised would happen to Israel.

Éstos son los principales valientes que respaldaron fuertemente a David. Lo ayudaron para designarlo rey de Israel, según la Palabra de Yavé.

11 This is the list of the leading warriors who supported David: Jashobeam, son of Hachmoni, leader of the Three. Using his spear, he once killed 300 men in a single battle.

Éste es el número de los valientes que tuvo David: Jasobeam, hijo de Hacmoni, jefe de los 30, el cual blandió su lanza contra 300, a los cuales mató de una sola vez.

12 After him came Eleazar, son of Dodo the Ahohite, one of the Three leading warriors.

Después de él estaba Eleazar, hijo de Dodo, el ahohíta. Él era uno de los tres valientes.

13 He was with David at Pas-dammin when the Philistines gathered for battle that took place in a field full of barley. The Israelite army ran away when the Philistines attacked,

Éste estuvo con David en Pas-damim cuando los filisteos se reunieron allí para la batalla. Había una parcela de tierra llena de cebada. Al huir el pueblo de los filisteos,

14 but David and Eleazar took a stand in the middle of the field, defending their ground and killing the Philistines. The Lord saved them by giving them a great victory.

él se colocó firme en medio de la parcela y la defendió. Derrotó a los filisteos y Yavé le dio una gran victoria.

15 Another time, the Three, who were part of the Thirty leading warriors, went down to meet David when he was at the cave of Adullam. The Philistine army was camped in the valley of Rephaim.

Tres de los 30 principales bajaron a la roca [donde estaba] David, en la cueva de Adulam, mientras los filisteos acampaban en el valle de Refaim.

16 At the time David was in the stronghold, and the Philistine garrison was in Bethlehem.

David estaba entonces en la fortaleza y una guarnición de los filisteos estaba en Belén.

17 David was feeling really thirsty, and he said, “If only someone could bring me a drink of water from the well beside the entrance gate to Bethlehem!”

Entonces David sintió un vivo deseo: ¡Quién me diera a beber agua del pozo de Belén, que está en la puerta!

18 The Three broke through the Philistine defenses, took some water from the well at Bethelehem's gate, and brought it back to David. But David refused to drink it, and poured it out as an offering to the Lord.

Entonces los tres irrumpieron en el campamento de los filisteos, sacaron agua del pozo de Belén que está junto a la puerta y se la llevaron a David. Pero David no la quiso beber, sino la derramó ante Yavé y dijo:

19 “God forbid that I should do this!” he said. “It would be like drinking the blood of these men who risked their lives! They risked their lives to bring me a drink.” So he did not drink it. This is just some of the things the Three leading warriors did.

¡Lejos esté de mí, oh mi ʼElohim, hacer esto! ¿Beberé la sangre de estos hombres que con riesgo de sus vidas la trajeron? Y no quiso beberla. Aquellos tres valientes hicieron esto.

20 Abishai, Joab's brother, was leader of the second Three. Using his spear, he once killed 300 men, and became famous among the Three.

Abisai, hermano de Joab, era el principal de los 30, el cual blandió su lanza contra 300 y los mató, y tuvo renombre entre los tres.

21 He was the most highly regarded of the Three and was their commander, though he was not one of the first Three.

Fue el más ilustre de los 30 y fue su jefe, pero no igualó a los tres primeros.

22 Benaiah, son of Jehoiada, a strong warrior from Kabzeel, did many amazing things. He killed two sons of Ariel of Moab. He also went after a lion into a pit in the snow and killed it.

Benaía, hijo de Joiada, hijo de un hombre valiente de grandes hazañas, de Cabseel, venció a los hijos de Ariel de Moab. Un día de nieve, bajó y mató a un león dentro de un foso.

23 Another time he killed an Egyptian—a huge man who stood seven foot six inches tall. The Egyptian had a spear whose shaft was as thick as a weaver's rod. Benaiah attacked him with just a club, but he was able to grab the spear from the Egyptian's hand, and killed him with his own spear.

También mató a un egipcio, hombre de 2,25 metros de estatura. El egipcio llevaba una lanza como un rodillo de tejedor. Pero [Benaía] bajó con un cayado, le arrebató la lanza de la mano al egipcio y lo mató con la lanza de éste.

24 These were the kind of things Benaiah did that made him as famous as the Three leading warriors.

Esto hizo Benaía, hijo de Joiada, y tuvo tanto renombre como los tres valientes.

25 He was the most highly regarded of the Thirty, though he was not one of the Three. David put him in charge of his personal bodyguard.

Ciertamente fue el más distinguido de los 30, pero no igualó a los tres primeros. David lo designó jefe de su guardia personal.

26 Other leading warriors were: Asahel, Joab's brother; Elhanan, son of Dodo, from Bethlehem;

27 Shammoth the Harorite; Helez the Pelonite;
