Philemon 1
1 Paul, a prisoner for Jesus Christ, and brother Timothy, to the beloved Philemon, our fellow worker,
Paul, prisonnier du Christ Jésus et Timothée, notre frère, à Philémon notre très cher ami et collaborateur,
2 and to the beloved Apphia and our fellow soldier Archippus, and to the congregation at your (sg) house:
à Appia, notre sœur, à Archippe, notre compagnon d’armes, et à l’Eglise qui est dans ta maison:
3 Grace to you (pl) and peace from God our Father and Sovereign Jesus Christ.
à vous grâce et paix de la part de Dieu notre Père et du Seigneur Jésus-Christ!
4 I always thank my God as I make mention of you (sg) in my prayers,
Me souvenant sans cesse de toi dans mes prières je rends grâces à mon Dieu;
5 hearing of your love and faith that you have toward the Lord Jesus, and for all the saints,
car j’apprends quelles sont ta charité et ta foi à l’égard du Seigneur Jésus et envers tous les saints.
6 so that the sharing of your (sg) faith may become powerful through a full understanding of every good thing that is among you (pl) who are in Christ Jesus;
Puisse la générosité inspirée par ta foi devenir efficace et se faire connaître par tout le bien accompli parmi nous en vue du Christ.
7 yes, we have much thanksgiving and encouragement because of your (sg) love, in that the hearts of the saints have been refreshed through you, brother.
En effet, ta charité m’a comblé de joie et de consolation, parce que les cœurs des saints ont été ranimés par toi, frère.
8 Now then, though I have all boldness in Christ to order you (sg) to do what is right,
Voilà pourquoi, bien que j’ai dans le Christ toute liberté de te prescrire ce qu’il convient de faire,
9 I—being none other than Paul the old man and now also a prisoner for Jesus Christ—would rather appeal to you, for love's sake.
j’aime mieux, au nom de cette charité, t’en supplier. Tel que je suis, moi, Paul, vieux, et de plus actuellement prisonnier pour Jésus-Christ,
10 I appeal to you on behalf of the son whom I begot while in my chains, Onesimus, whom I am sending back
je te supplie donc pour mon fils, que j’ai engendré dans les fers, pour Onésime,
11 —formerly he was unprofitable to you, but now he is profitable, both to you and to me.
qui autrefois ne t’a guère été utile, mais qui maintenant l’est vraiment, et à toi et à moi.
12 So receive him, who is my very heart
Je te le renvoie, lui, mon propre cœur.
13 —I would have liked to keep him with me, so that he might minister to me in your place, while I am in chains for the Gospel,
Je l’aurais volontiers retenu près de moi, afin qu’il me servit à ta place dans les chaînes que je porte pour l’Evangile.
14 but I did not want to do anything without your consent, so that your contribution might be voluntary, not as an imposition.
Mais je n’ai voulu rien faire sans ton assentiment, pour que ton bienfait ne paraisse pas forcé, mais qu’il vienne de ton plein gré.
15 Perhaps this is why he was removed for a while, so that you would have him forever (aiōnios g166)
Peut-être aussi Onésime n’a-t-il été séparé de toi pour un temps, qu’afin que tu le recouvres à jamais, (aiōnios g166)
16 —no longer as a slave, but more than a slave, a beloved brother, very much to me but even more to you, both in flesh and in the Lord.
non plus comme un esclave, mais bien mieux qu’un esclave, comme un frère bien-aimé, tout particulièrement aimé de moi, et combien plus de toi, aussi bien selon la chair que selon le Seigneur?
17 So if you consider me a partner, receive him as if it were me.
Si donc tu me tiens pour étroitement uni à toi, accueille-le comme moi-même.
18 If he wronged you or owes anything, charge it to me.
Et s’il t’a fait tort, s’il te doit quelque chose, passe-le à mon compte.
19 I, Paul, am writing with my own hand, “I will repay” (rather than say to you that you actually owe me your very self!).
C’est moi Paul, qui écris ceci de ma propre main; moi je te le rendrai, pour ne pas te dire que tu es mon débiteur, et même de ta propre personne.
20 Yes brother, let me have this benefit from you in the Lord; refresh my heart in the Lord.
Oui, frère, que j’obtienne de toi cette satisfaction dans le Seigneur; réjouis mes entrailles dans le Christ.
21 Being confident of your obedience, I write to you, knowing that you (sg) will do even more than I say.
Je t’écris ceci plein de confiance en ta docilité, sachant que tu feras même au delà de ce que je demande.
22 But meanwhile, do prepare a guest room for me, because I hope that through your (pl) prayers I will be graciously bestowed on you (pl).
En même temps, prépare aussi pour moi l’hospitalité; car j’espère vous être rendu, grâce à vos prières.
23 Epaphras, my fellow prisoner for Christ Jesus, greets you (sg),
Epaphras, mon compagnon de captivité en Jésus-Christ, te salue,
24 as do Mark, Aristarchus, Demas and Luke, my fellow workers.
ainsi que Marc, Aristarque, Démas et Luc, mes collaborateurs.
25 The grace of our Lord Jesus be with your (pl) spirit. Amen.
Que la grâce de notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ, soit avec votre esprit! Amen!
