< Matthew 11 >

1 And so it was, when Jesus finished directing His twelve disciples, that He moved on from there to teach and preach in their towns.
And it came to pass, when Jesus finished directing His twelve disciples, He departed from there to teach and to preach in their cities.
2 But John, hearing in prison about the works of the Messiah, sent two of his disciples
And John having heard in the prison the works of the Christ, having sent two of his disciples,
3 to say to Him, “Are you the Coming One, or do we look for another?”
said to Him, “Are You He who is coming, or do we look for another?”
4 By way of answer Jesus said to them: “Go and report to John the things that you hear and see:
And Jesus answering said to them, “Having gone, declare to John the things that you hear and see,
5 blind regain sight and lame walk, lepers are cleansed and deaf hear, dead are raised and the poor are evangelized.
blind receive sight, and lame walk, lepers are cleansed, and deaf hear, dead are raised, and poor have good news proclaimed,
6 And, blessed be whoever is not offended at Me!”
and blessed is he who may not be stumbled in Me.”
7 So as they departed Jesus began to say to the crowds concerning John: “What did you go out into the wilderness to see, a reed shaken by the wind?
And as they are going, Jesus began to say to the multitudes concerning John, “What did you go out to the wilderness to view? A reed shaken by the wind?
8 But what did you go out to see, a man clothed in soft garments? Actually, those who wear soft material are in kings' houses.
But what did you go out to see? A man clothed in soft garments? Behold, those wearing the soft things are in the kings’ houses.
9 But really, what did you go out to see, a prophet? Yes, I tell you, and far more than a prophet.
But what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I say to you, and more than a prophet,
10 For this is he of whom it is written: ‘Behold, I send my messenger before your face, who will prepare your way ahead of you.’
for this is he of whom it has been written: Behold, I send My messenger before Your face, who will prepare Your way before You.
11 Assuredly I say to you, among those born of women there has not arisen a greater than John the Baptizer; but he who is least in the kingdom of the heavens is greater than he.
Truly I say to you, there has not risen, among those born of women, [one] greater than John the Immerser, but he who is least in the kingdom of the heavens is greater than he.
12 But from the days of John the Baptizer until now the kingdom of the heavens is being aggressive and aggressive people are seizing upon it.
And from the days of John the Immerser until now, the kingdom of the heavens suffers violence, and violent men seize it by force,
13 For all the prophets and the Law prophesied until John,
for all the Prophets and the Law prophesied until John,
14 and if you are willing to receive it, he is Elijah who is to come.
and if you are willing to receive [it], he is Elijah who was about to come;
15 He who has ears to hear, let him hear!
he who is having ears to hear—let him hear.
16 “But to what shall I compare this generation? It is like children sitting in a marketplace and calling to their friends
And to what will I liken this generation? It is like little children in marketplaces, sitting and calling to others,
17 and saying, ‘We played the flute for you and you did not dance; we mourned for you and you did not lament.’
and saying, We piped to you, and you did not dance, we lamented to you, and you did not strike the breast.
18 For John came neither eating nor drinking and they say, ‘He has a demon’;
For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, He has a demon;
19 the Son of the Man came eating and drinking and they say, ‘Just look, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’ Indeed, wisdom is vindicated by her children.”
the Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, Behold, a man, a glutton, and a wine-drinker, a friend of tax collectors and sinners; and wisdom was justified of her children.”
20 Then He began to reproach the cities in which most of His mighty works had been done, because they did not repent.
Then He began to reproach the cities in which were done most of His mighty works, because they did not convert.
21 “Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! Because if the mighty works that were done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.
“Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! Because, if in Tyre and Sidon had been done the mighty works that were done in you, long ago in sackcloth and ashes they had converted;
22 So I say to you, it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon in the Day of judgment than for you!
but I say to you, to Tyre and Sidon it will be more tolerable in [the] day of judgment than for you.
23 And you, Capernaum, ‘the one having been exalted to heaven’, you will be brought down to Hades! Because if the mighty works that were done in you had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day. (Hadēs g86)
And you, Capernaum, which were exalted to Heaven, will be brought down to Hades, because if the mighty works that were done in you had been done in Sodom, it had remained to this day; (Hadēs g86)
24 So I say to you that it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the Day of judgment than for you.”
but I say to you, to the land of Sodom it will be more tolerable in [the] day of judgment than to you.”
25 At that time Jesus reacted and said: “‘I praise You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and intelligent and have revealed them to ‘babes’.
At that time Jesus answering said, “I confess to You, Father, Lord of the heavens and of the earth, that You hid these things from wise and understanding ones, and revealed them to babies.
26 Yes, Father, because thus it was good to You.’
Yes, Father, because so it was good pleasure before You.
27 “All things have been delivered to me by my Father, and no one really knows the Son except the Father; nor does anyone really know the Father except the Son, and the one to whom the Son may will to reveal Him.
All things were delivered to Me by My Father, and none know the Son, except the Father, nor does any know the Father, except the Son, and he to whom the Son may resolve to reveal [Him].
28 Come to me all you who are laboring and are loaded down, and I will give you rest.
Come to Me, all you laboring and burdened ones, and I will give you rest;
29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, because I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls;
take up My yoke on you, and learn from Me, because I am meek and humble in heart, and you will find rest to your souls,
30 for my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
for My yoke [is] easy, and My burden is light.”
