< John 21 >

1 After these things Jesus, risen from the dead, revealed Himself to His disciples at the Sea of Tiberias, and He did it like this:
tataḥ paraṁ tibiriyājaladhestaṭe yīśuḥ punarapi śiṣyebhyo darśanaṁ dattavān darśanasyākhyānamidam|
2 Simon Peter, Thomas (called Twin), Nathanael (from Cana of Galilee), Zebedee's sons and two others of His disciples were together.
śimonpitaraḥ yamajathomā gālīlīyakānnānagaranivāsī nithanel sivadeḥ putrāvanyau dvau śiṣyau caiteṣvekatra militeṣu śimonpitaro'kathayat matsyān dhartuṁ yāmi|
3 Simon Peter says to them, “I'm going fishing.” They say to him, “We're coming with you.” Off they went and got right into the boat, and that whole night they caught nothing.
tataste vyāharan tarhi vayamapi tvayā sārddhaṁ yāmaḥ tadā te bahirgatāḥ santaḥ kṣipraṁ nāvam ārohan kintu tasyāṁ rajanyām ekamapi na prāpnuvan|
4 Well when daybreak had now come Jesus stood on the beach; however the disciples did not know that it was Jesus.
prabhāte sati yīśustaṭe sthitavān kintu sa yīśuriti śiṣyā jñātuṁ nāśaknuvan|
5 Then Jesus says to them, “Boys, you don't have any food, do you?” They answered Him, “No.”
tadā yīśurapṛcchat, he vatsā sannidhau kiñcit khādyadravyam āste? te'vadan kimapi nāsti|
6 So He said to them, “Cast the net on the right side of the boat and you will find.” So they did, and now they were unable to haul it in because of the multitude of fish!
tadā so'vadat naukāyā dakṣiṇapārśve jālaṁ nikṣipata tato lapsyadhve, tasmāt tai rnikṣipte jāle matsyā etāvanto'patan yena te jālamākṛṣya nottolayituṁ śaktāḥ|
7 Then that disciple whom Jesus loved says to Peter, “It's the Lord!” Upon hearing that it was the Lord, Simon Peter tied on his outer garment (for he was stripped) and plunged into the sea.
tasmād yīśoḥ priyatamaśiṣyaḥ pitarāyākathayat eṣa prabhu rbhavet, eṣa prabhuriti vācaṁ śrutvaiva śimon nagnatāheto rmatsyadhāriṇa uttarīyavastraṁ paridhāya hradaṁ pratyudalamphayat|
8 But the other disciples came in the little boat dragging the net with the fish (for they were not far from the land, but about 100 yards).
apare śiṣyā matsyaiḥ sārddhaṁ jālam ākarṣantaḥ kṣudranaukāṁ vāhayitvā kūlamānayan te kūlād atidūre nāsan dviśatahastebhyo dūra āsan ityanumīyate|
9 Then, as they stepped onto the land they saw a charcoal fire in place with fish lying on it, and bread.
tīraṁ prāptaistaistatra prajvalitāgnistadupari matsyāḥ pūpāśca dṛṣṭāḥ|
10 Jesus says to them, “Bring some of the fish that you have just caught.”
tato yīśurakathayad yān matsyān adharata teṣāṁ katipayān ānayata|
11 Simon Peter got up and dragged the net onto the land, full of one hundred and fifty-three large fish; and although being so many, the net was not torn.
ataḥ śimonpitaraḥ parāvṛtya gatvā bṛhadbhistripañcāśadadhikaśatamatsyaiḥ paripūrṇaṁ tajjālam ākṛṣyodatolayat kintvetāvadbhi rmatsyairapi jālaṁ nāchidyata|
12 Jesus says to them, “Come have breakfast!” Well not one of the disciples dared to ask Him, “Who are you?”—knowing that it was the Lord.
anantaraṁ yīśustān avādīt yūyamāgatya bhuṁgdhvaṁ; tadā saeva prabhuriti jñātatvāt tvaṁ kaḥ? iti praṣṭuṁ śiṣyāṇāṁ kasyāpi pragalbhatā nābhavat|
13 Then Jesus comes and takes the bread and gives it to them, as also the fish.
tato yīśurāgatya pūpān matsyāṁśca gṛhītvā tebhyaḥ paryyaveṣayat|
14 This was already a third time that Jesus appeared to His disciples after He was raised from among the dead.
itthaṁ śmaśānādutthānāt paraṁ yīśuḥ śiṣyebhyastṛtīyavāraṁ darśanaṁ dattavān|
15 So, when they had eaten breakfast, Jesus says to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of Jonah, do you love me more than these?” He says to Him, “Yes, Lord, you know that I'm fond of you.” He says to him, “Feed my lambs.”
bhojane samāpte sati yīśuḥ śimonpitaraṁ pṛṣṭavān, he yūnasaḥ putra śimon tvaṁ kim etebhyodhikaṁ mayi prīyase? tataḥ sa uditavān satyaṁ prabho tvayi prīye'haṁ tad bhavān jānāti; tadā yīśurakathayat tarhi mama meṣaśāvakagaṇaṁ pālaya|
16 He says to him again, a second time, “Simon, son of Jonah, do you love me?” He says to Him, “Yes, Lord, you know that I'm fond of you.” He says to him, “Shepherd my sheep.”
tataḥ sa dvitīyavāraṁ pṛṣṭavān he yūnasaḥ putra śimon tvaṁ kiṁ mayi prīyase? tataḥ sa uktavān satyaṁ prabho tvayi prīye'haṁ tad bhavān jānāti; tadā yīśurakathayata tarhi mama meṣagaṇaṁ pālaya|
17 The third time He says to him, “Simon, son of Jonah, are you fond of me?” Peter was grieved in that the third time He said to him, “Are you fond of me?” and said to Him: “Lord, you know all things. You know that I'm fond of you!” Jesus says to him: “Feed my sheep.
paścāt sa tṛtīyavāraṁ pṛṣṭavān, he yūnasaḥ putra śimon tvaṁ kiṁ mayi prīyase? etadvākyaṁ tṛtīyavāraṁ pṛṣṭavān tasmāt pitaro duḥkhito bhūtvā'kathayat he prabho bhavataḥ kimapyagocaraṁ nāsti tvayyahaṁ prīye tad bhavān jānāti; tato yīśuravadat tarhi mama meṣagaṇaṁ pālaya|
18 Most assuredly I say to you, when you were younger you used to get dressed and walk where you wished; but when you are old you will stretch out your hands and another will dress you and carry you where you do not wish.”
ahaṁ tubhyaṁ yathārthaṁ kathayāmi yauvanakāle svayaṁ baddhakaṭi ryatrecchā tatra yātavān kintvitaḥ paraṁ vṛddhe vayasi hastaṁ vistārayiṣyasi, anyajanastvāṁ baddhvā yatra gantuṁ tavecchā na bhavati tvāṁ dhṛtvā tatra neṣyati|
19 (He said this to indicate the kind of death by which he would glorify God.) And upon saying that He says to him, “Follow me!”
phalataḥ kīdṛśena maraṇena sa īśvarasya mahimānaṁ prakāśayiṣyati tad bodhayituṁ sa iti vākyaṁ proktavān| ityukte sati sa tamavocat mama paścād āgaccha|
20 But turning around Peter sees the disciple whom Jesus loved following (that is the one who reclined on His chest at the supper and said, “Lord, who is the one who is betraying you?”).
yo jano rātrikāle yīśo rvakṣo'valambya, he prabho ko bhavantaṁ parakareṣu samarpayiṣyatīti vākyaṁ pṛṣṭavān, taṁ yīśoḥ priyatamaśiṣyaṁ paścād āgacchantaṁ
21 Seeing him, Peter says to Jesus, “Lord, what about him?”
pitaro mukhaṁ parāvarttya vilokya yīśuṁ pṛṣṭavān, he prabho etasya mānavasya kīdṛśī gati rbhaviṣyati?
22 Jesus says to him: “If I want him to remain until I come, what is that to you? You follow me.”
sa pratyavadat, mama punarāgamanaparyyantaṁ yadi taṁ sthāpayitum icchāmi tatra tava kiṁ? tvaṁ mama paścād āgaccha|
23 So this saying spread among the brothers, that this disciple would not die. Yet Jesus did not say to him [Peter] that he [John] would not die, but, “If I want him to remain until I come, what is that to you?”
tasmāt sa śiṣyo na mariṣyatīti bhrātṛgaṇamadhye kiṁvadantī jātā kintu sa na mariṣyatīti vākyaṁ yīśu rnāvadat kevalaṁ mama punarāgamanaparyyantaṁ yadi taṁ sthāpayitum icchāmi tatra tava kiṁ? iti vākyam uktavān|
24 This is the disciple who is testifying to these things, and who wrote them; and we know that his testimony is true.
yo jana etāni sarvvāṇi likhitavān atra sākṣyañca dattavān saeva sa śiṣyaḥ, tasya sākṣyaṁ pramāṇamiti vayaṁ jānīmaḥ|
25 Indeed, there are also many other things that Jesus did, which if they were written one by one, I suppose that not even the whole world could contain the books that would be written! Amen.
yīśuretebhyo'parāṇyapi bahūni karmmāṇi kṛtavān tāni sarvvāṇi yadyekaikaṁ kṛtvā likhyante tarhi granthā etāvanto bhavanti teṣāṁ dhāraṇe pṛthivyāṁ sthānaṁ na bhavati| iti||
