< 1 Timothy 2 >
1 Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions and thanksgivings be made on behalf of all men
mama prathama ādeśo'yaṁ, prārthanāvinayanivedanadhanyavādāḥ karttavyāḥ,
2 —on behalf of kings and all who are in authority, that we may live a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity.
sarvveṣāṁ mānavānāṁ kṛte viśeṣato vayaṁ yat śāntatvena nirvvirodhatvena ceścarabhaktiṁ vinītatvañcācarantaḥ kālaṁ yāpayāmastadarthaṁ nṛpatīnām uccapadasthānāñca kṛte te karttavyāḥ|
3 Because this is good and pleasing to our Savior God,
yato'smākaṁ tārakasyeśvarasya sākṣāt tadevottamaṁ grāhyañca bhavati,
4 who desires all men to be saved and to come into a real knowledge of Truth.
sa sarvveṣāṁ mānavānāṁ paritrāṇaṁ satyajñānaprāptiñcecchati|
5 For there is one God, and one Mediator between God and men—a man!—Jesus Christ,
yata eko'dvitīya īśvaro vidyate kiñceśvare mānaveṣu caiko 'dvitīyo madhyasthaḥ
6 who gave Himself as a ransom on behalf of all people (to be testified in its own seasons),
sa narāvatāraḥ khrīṣṭo yīśu rvidyate yaḥ sarvveṣāṁ mukte rmūlyam ātmadānaṁ kṛtavān| etena yena pramāṇenopayukte samaye prakāśitavyaṁ,
7 to which ransom I was appointed a herald and an apostle—I am telling the truth in Christ, I am not lying—a teacher of nations in faith and truth.
tadghoṣayitā dūto viśvāse satyadharmme ca bhinnajātīyānām upadeśakaścāhaṁ nyayūjye, etadahaṁ khrīṣṭasya nāmnā yathātathyaṁ vadāmi nānṛtaṁ kathayāmi|
8 So I desire that the men in every place pray, lifting up holy hands without anger or argument.
ato mamābhimatamidaṁ puruṣaiḥ krodhasandehau vinā pavitrakarān uttolya sarvvasmin sthāne prārthanā kriyatāṁ|
9 Similarly the women also, dressing themselves in appropriate clothing, with modesty and good sense; not with braided hair or gold or pearls or expensive clothes,
tadvat nāryyo'pi salajjāḥ saṁyatamanasaśca satyo yogyamācchādanaṁ paridadhatu kiñca keśasaṁskāraiḥ kaṇakamuktābhi rmahārghyaparicchadaiścātmabhūṣaṇaṁ na kurvvatyaḥ
10 but with good works, which is appropriate to women who profess godliness.
svīkṛteśvarabhaktīnāṁ yoṣitāṁ yogyaiḥ satyarmmabhiḥ svabhūṣaṇaṁ kurvvatāṁ|
11 Let a woman learn in silence, in full subordination.
nārī sampūrṇavinītatvena nirvirodhaṁ śikṣatāṁ|
12 I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man, but to be in silence.
nāryyāḥ śikṣādānaṁ puruṣāyājñādānaṁ vāhaṁ nānujānāmi tayā nirvvirodhatvam ācaritavyaṁ|
13 For Adam was formed first, then Eve.
yataḥ prathamam ādamastataḥ paraṁ havāyāḥ sṛṣṭi rbabhūva|
14 Also, Adam was not deceived; rather, the woman, being deceived, became a transgressor.
kiñcādam bhrāntiyukto nābhavat yoṣideva bhrāntiyuktā bhūtvātyācāriṇī babhūva|
15 However, she will be saved through the Childbirth—if they continue in faith, love and holiness, with self-control.
tathāpi nārīgaṇo yadi viśvāse premni pavitratāyāṁ saṁyatamanasi ca tiṣṭhati tarhyapatyaprasavavartmanā paritrāṇaṁ prāpsyati|
