< 1 Thessalonians 2 >

1 Now you yourselves know, brothers, that our entrance to you did not happen without purpose.
He ʻoku ʻilo ʻekimoutolu, ʻe kāinga, ko ʻemau hoko atu kiate kimoutolu, naʻe ʻikai taʻeʻaonga ia:
2 Rather, in spite of having already suffered and been insulted in Philippi, as you know, we made bold in our God to speak to you the Gospel of God, in the face of strong opposition.
Kae hili ʻemau tomuʻa mamahi, mo homau ngaohikoviʻi ʻaupito, ʻi Filipai, ʻaia ʻoku mou ʻilo, naʻa mau mālohi ʻi homau ʻOtua ke leaʻaki kiate kimoutolu ʻae ongoongolelei ʻoe ʻOtua lolotonga ʻae fakatanga lahi.
3 Further, our exhortation does not spring from delusion or impurity, nor is it in deception,
He naʻe ʻikai ʻi he kākā ʻemau akonaki, pe ʻi he taʻemāʻoniʻoni, pe ʻi he fakaoloolo:
4 but we speak precisely as those who have been approved by God to be entrusted with the Gospel, not so as to please men, but to please the God who evaluates our hearts.
Ka ʻi heʻene lelei ki he ʻOtua ke tuku kiate kimautolu ʻae ongoongolelei, ko ia ʻoku pehē ai ʻemau lea; ʻo ʻikai ko e fakafiemālie ki he kakai, ka ko e ʻOtua, ʻaia ʻoku ne ʻahiʻahiʻi homau loto.
5 Further, you well know that we never used words to flatter, or to disguise greed (God is witness),
He ʻoku mou ʻilo, naʻe ʻikai te mau ngāueʻaki ʻae lea fakalai ʻi ha kuonga ʻe taha, pe ko e kofu ʻoe manumanu; ko e fakamoʻoni ʻae ʻOtua:
6 or to seek glory from men (whether from you or from others)—as apostles of Christ we could have been ‘heavy’,
7 but we were gentle among you, like a nurse cherishing her own children.
Ka naʻa mau ʻiate kimoutolu ʻi he angavaivai, ʻio, ʻo hangē ko e tauhi ʻoku ne tauhi ʻofa ʻene fānau:
8 Yearning over you in this way, we were well pleased to share with you not only the Gospel of God but also our own selves, because you had become dear to us.
Pea ʻi he ʻemau tokanga ʻofa kiate kimoutolu, naʻa mau loto ke ʻatu kiate kimoutolu, ʻikai ko e ongoongolelei ʻoe ʻOtua pe, ka ko ʻemau moʻui foki, koeʻuhi ko e ʻofeina lahi ʻakimoutolu kiate kimautolu.
9 Surely you remember, brothers, our toil and exertion, because working night and day, so as not to burden any of you, we proclaimed the Gospel of God to you.
He ʻoku mou manatu, ʻe kāinga, ʻemau ngaue mo e ongosia: ko e meʻa ʻi he ngaue ʻi he pō mo e ʻaho, koeʻuhi ke ʻoua naʻa mau fakamasiva ha tokotaha ʻiate kimoutolu, pea naʻa mau malangaʻaki ʻae ongoongolelei ʻoe ʻOtua kiate kimoutolu.
10 You are witnesses, and so is God, how devoutly and justly and blamelessly we behaved ourselves among you who believe;
Ko e kau fakamoʻoni ʻakimoutolu, mo e ʻOtua foki, ki heʻemau ʻulungāanga māʻoniʻoni mo totonu mo taʻehalaia ʻiate kimoutolu ʻoku tui:
11 indeed, you know how we treated each one of you as a father does his own children, exhorting and comforting you,
Pea ʻoku mou ʻilo foki ʻemau enginakiʻi mo fakafiemālie mo fakapapau kiate kimoutolu kotoa pē, ʻo hangē ko e tamai ki heʻene fānau,
12 insisting that you conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the God who calls you into His own kingdom and glory.
Koeʻuhi ke mou ʻaʻeva ʻo taau mo e ʻOtua, ʻaia kuo ne ui ʻakimoutolu ki hono puleʻanga mo hono nāunau.
13 Another reason we give thanks to God continually is that when you received from us the spoken Word of God, you welcomed it not as the word of men but, as it actually is, the Word of God, which is indeed operative in you who believe.
Ko e meʻa ko ia ʻoku mau fakafetaʻi taʻetuku ai foki ki he ʻOtua, koeʻuhi, ʻi hoʻomou maʻu ʻae folofola ʻae ʻOtua ʻaia ne mou fanongo ai ʻiate kimautolu, naʻe ʻikai te mou maʻu ia ʻo hangē ko e lea ʻae tangata, kae hangē ko ia ʻoku moʻoni, ko e folofola ʻae ʻOtua, ʻaia ʻoku ngaue ʻaonga foki kiate kimoutolu ʻoku tui.
14 For you, brothers, became imitators of God's congregations in Christ Jesus, the ones in Judea, in that you also suffered the same things from your own countrymen that they did from the Jews
He naʻa mou hoko, ʻe kāinga, ko e kau faʻifaʻitaki ki he ngaahi siasi ʻoe ʻOtua ʻi Siutea ʻoku ʻia Kalaisi Sisu: he naʻa mou kātaki ʻae ngaahi meʻa pehē ʻi he kakai ʻi homou fonua foki, ʻo hangē ko kinautolu ʻi he kakai Siu:
15 (the ones who killed both the Lord Jesus and their own prophets, who have persecuted us, who do not please God and are hostile to everybody,
‌ʻAkinautolu naʻe tāmateʻi ʻae ʻEiki ko Sisu, mo honau kau palōfita foki, pea kuo nau fakatangaʻi ʻakimautolu; pea ʻoku ʻikai te nau lelei ki he ʻOtua, pea ʻoku nau fai kehe mo e kakai kotoa pē:
16 trying to prevent us from speaking to the Gentiles so that they may be saved—so as to fill up the measure of their sins. They have received the full impact of the Wrath).
‌ʻOku nau taʻofi ʻemau lea ki he ngaahi Senitaile koeʻuhi ke nau moʻui, ko e meʻa ke fakakakato ai ʻenau ngaahi angahala: he kuo hoko hono lahi ʻoe houhau kiate kinautolu.
17 Now we, brothers, having been bereaved of you for a short season (in presence, not in heart), made every effort to see your face, from intense longing.
Ka ko kimautolu, ʻe kāinga, kuo mavahe meiate kimoutolu ʻi he kuonga siʻi ʻi he sino, kae ʻikai ʻi he loto, kuo lahi hake ʻaupito ai ʻemau ʻahiʻahi mo holi lahi ke mamata ki homou mata.
18 (We actually tried to come to you—I, Paul, time and again—but Satan thwarted us.)
Ko ia naʻa mau fie ʻalu atu ai kiate kimoutolu, ʻio, ko au Paula, ʻo liunga taha mo liunga ua; ka naʻe taʻofi ʻakimoutolu ʻe Sētane.
19 For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of glorying? Is it not precisely you, in the presence of our Lord Jesus at His coming?
He ko e hā ʻemau ʻamanaki lelei, pe fiefia, pe ko e polepole ʻoe fiefia? ʻIkai ko kimoutolu foki ʻi he ʻao ʻo hotau ʻEiki ko Sisu Kalaisi ʻi heʻene hāʻele mai?
20 Indeed, you are our glory and our joy.
He ko homau vikivikiʻanga ʻakimoutolu mo ʻemau fiefia.
