1 John 4
1 Dear ones, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.
Amados, no creáis a todo espíritu, sino probad los espíritus si son de Dios, porque muchos falsos profetas han salido por el mundo.
2 By this the Spirit of God is known: every spirit that acknowledges Jesus Christ as having come in flesh is of God,
En esto conocéis el Espíritu de Dios: todo espíritu que confiesa que Jesucristo ha venido en carne es de Dios,
3 and every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus Christ as having come in flesh is not of God; indeed, this is the spirit of the Antichrist, of which you have heard that it is coming—actually, it is already in the world right now.
y todo espíritu que no confiesa que Jesucristo ha venido en carne no es de Dios; y éste es el espíritu del Anticristo, del cual habéis oído que viene. Ahora ya está en el mundo.
4 Dear children, you are of God and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than the one in the world.
Vosotros sois de Dios, hijitos, y los habéis vencido, porque mayor es el que está en vosotros que el que está en el mundo.
5 They are of the world; that is why they speak of the world, and the world listens to them.
Ellos son del mundo. Por eso hablan del mundo, y el mundo los escucha.
6 We are of God: he who knows God listens to us; he who is not of God does not listen to us—by this we know the Spirit of the Truth and the spirit of the deception.
Nosotros somos de Dios. El que conoce a Dios nos escucha. El que no es de Dios no nos escucha. En esto conocemos el espíritu de la verdad y el espíritu del error.
7 Dear ones, we must love one another, because the love is of God and everyone who loves has been begotten by God and knows God.
Amados, amémonos unos a otros, porque el amor es de Dios; y todo el que ama ha nacido de Dios y conoce a Dios.
8 He who does not love does not know God, because God is love.
El que no ama no conoce a Dios, porque Dios es amor.
9 God's love was made real within us by this: God sent His only begotten Son into the world in order that we might live through Him.
En esto se ha manifestado el amor de Dios en nosotros, que ha enviado a su Hijo unigénito al mundo para que vivamos por él.
10 In this is the love, not that we loved God but that He loved us—He even sent His Son as the propitiation for our sins.
En esto consiste el amor: no en que nosotros hayamos amado a Dios, sino en que él nos amó y envió a su Hijo como sacrificio expiatorio por nuestros pecados.
11 Dear ones, since God loved us in this way we are obligated to love one another, really.
Amados, si Dios nos ha amado así, también nosotros debemos amarnos los unos a los otros.
12 No one has ever looked at God. If we love one another, God remains in us and His love is being perfected in us.
Nadie ha visto a Dios en ningún momento. Si nos amamos unos a otros, Dios permanece en nosotros, y su amor se ha perfeccionado en nosotros.
13 By this we know that we remain in Him and He in us, because He has given us of His Spirit.
En esto sabemos que permanecemos en él y él en nosotros, porque nos ha dado de su Espíritu.
14 Yes, we have observed and do testify that the Father has sent the Son as Savior of the world.
Hemos visto y damos testimonio de que el Padre ha enviado al Hijo como Salvador del mundo.
15 Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him and he in God.
El que confiesa que Jesús es el Hijo de Dios, Dios permanece en él y él en Dios.
16 Yes, we have come to know and believe the love that God has in us. God is love, and he who abides in the love abides in God, and God in him.
Nosotros conocemos y hemos creído el amor que Dios nos tiene. Dios es amor, y el que permanece en el amor permanece en Dios, y Dios permanece en él.
17 The love is perfected with us for this: that we may have confidence in the Day of judgment, since just as He is so are we in this world.
En esto se ha perfeccionado el amor entre nosotros, para que tengamos confianza en el día del juicio, porque como él es, así somos nosotros en este mundo.
18 There is no fear in love; rather perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves punishment; so he who fears has not been perfected in love.
En el amor no hay temor, sino que el amor perfecto echa fuera el temor, porque el temor tiene castigo. El que teme no se ha perfeccionado en el amor.
19 We love Him because He first loved us.
Nosotros le amamos, porque él nos amó primero.
20 If anyone says, “I love God,” while hating his brother, he is a liar. Well, how can he love God whom he has not seen, while not loving his brother whom he has seen?
Si alguno dice: “Yo amo a Dios”, y odia a su hermano, es un mentiroso; porque el que no ama a su hermano, a quien ha visto, ¿cómo puede amar a Dios, a quien no ha visto?
21 Indeed, this commandment we have from Him: he who loves God must love his brother also.
Este mandamiento tenemos de él: que el que ama a Dios, ame también a su hermano.
