Romans 2
1 Wherefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest. For wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself. For thou dost the same things which thou judgest.
Perciò, o uomo, chiunque tu sii che giudichi, sei inescusabile; poiché nel giudicare gli altri, tu condanni te stesso; poiché tu che giudichi, fai le medesime cose.
2 For we know that the judgment of God is, according to truth, against them that do such things.
Or noi sappiamo che il giudizio di Dio su quelli che fanno tali cose è conforme a verità.
3 And thinkest thou this, O man, that judgest them who do such things, and dost the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God?
E pensi tu, o uomo che giudichi quelli che fanno tali cose e le fai tu stesso, di scampare al giudizio di Dio?
4 Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness, and patience, and longsuffering? Knowest thou not, that the benignity of God leadeth thee to penance?
Ovvero sprezzi tu le ricchezze della sua benignità, della sua pazienza e della sua longanimità, non riconoscendo che la benignità di Dio ti trae a ravvedimento?
5 But according to thy hardness and impenitent heart, thou treasurest up to thyself wrath, against the day of wrath, and revelation of the just judgment of God.
Tu invece, seguendo la tua durezza e il tuo cuore impenitente, t’accumuli un tesoro d’ira, per il giorno dell’ira e della rivelazione del giusto giudizio di Dio,
6 Who will render to every man according to his works.
il quale renderà a ciascuno secondo le sue opere:
7 To them indeed, who according to patience in good work, seek glory and honour and incorruption, eternal life: (aiōnios g166)
vita eterna a quelli che con la perseveranza nel bene oprare cercano gloria e onore e immortalità; (aiōnios g166)
8 But to them that are contentious, and who obey not the truth, but give credit to iniquity, wrath and indignation.
ma a quelli che son contenziosi e non ubbidiscono alla verità ma ubbidiscono alla ingiustizia, ira e indignazione.
9 Tribulation and anguish upon every soul of man that worketh evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Greek.
Tribolazione e angoscia sopra ogni anima d’uomo che fa il male; del Giudeo prima, e poi del Greco;
10 But glory, and honour, and peace to every one that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
ma gloria e onore e pace a chiunque opera bene; al Giudeo prima e poi al Greco;
11 For there is no respect of persons with God.
poiché dinanzi a Dio non c’è riguardo a persone.
12 For whosoever have sinned without the law, shall perish without the law; and whosoever have sinned in the law, shall be judged by the law.
Infatti, tutti coloro che hanno peccato senza legge, periranno pure senza legge; e tutti coloro che hanno peccato avendo legge, saranno giudicati con quella legge;
13 For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified.
poiché non quelli che ascoltano la legge son giusti dinanzi a Dio, ma quelli che l’osservano saranno giustificati.
14 For when the Gentiles, who have not the law, do by nature those things that are of the law; these having not the law are a law to themselves:
Infatti, quando i Gentili che non hanno legge, adempiono per natura le cose della legge, essi, che non hanno legge, son legge a se stessi;
15 Who shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience bearing witness to them, and their thoughts between themselves accusing, or also defending one another,
essi mostrano che quel che la legge comanda è scritto nei loro cuori per la testimonianza che rende loro la coscienza, e perché i loro pensieri si accusano od anche si scusano a vicenda.
16 In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ, according to my gospel.
Tutto ciò si vedrà nel giorno in cui Dio giudicherà i segreti degli uomini per mezzo di Gesù Cristo, secondo il mio Evangelo.
17 But if thou art called a Jew and restest in the law, and makest thy boast of God,
Or se tu ti chiami Giudeo, e ti riposi sulla legge, e ti glorii in Dio,
18 And knowest his will, and approvest the more profitable things, being instructed by the law,
e conosci la sua volontà, e discerni la differenza delle cose essendo ammaestrato dalla legge,
19 Art confident that thou thyself art a guide of the blind, a light of them that are in darkness,
e ti persuadi d’esser guida de’ ciechi, luce di quelli che sono nelle tenebre,
20 An instructor of the foolish, a teacher of infants, having the form of knowledge and of truth in the law.
educatore degli scempi, maestro dei fanciulli, perché hai nella legge la formula della conoscenza e della verità,
21 Thou therefore that teachest another, teachest not thyself: thou that preachest that men should not steal, stealest:
come mai, dunque, tu che insegni agli altri non insegni a te stesso? Tu che predichi che non si deve rubare, rubi?
22 Thou that sayest, men should not commit adultery, committest adultery: thou that abhorrest idols, committest sacrilege:
Tu che dici che non si deve commettere adulterio, commetti adulterio? Tu che hai in abominio gl’idoli, saccheggi i templi?
23 Thou that makest thy boast of the law, by transgression of the law dishonourest God.
Tu che meni vanto della legge, disonori Dio trasgredendo la legge?
24 (For the name of God through you is blasphemed among the Gentiles, as it is written.)
Poiché, siccome è scritto, il nome di Dio, per cagion vostra, è bestemmiato fra i Gentili.
25 Circumcision profiteth indeed, if thou keep the law; but if thou be a transgressor of the law, thy circumcision is made uncircumcision.
Infatti ben giova la circoncisione se tu osservi la legge; ma se tu sei trasgressore della legge, la tua circoncisione diventa incirconcisione.
26 If, then, the uncircumcised keep the justices of the law, shall not this uncircumcision be counted for circumcision?
E se l’incirconciso osserva i precetti della legge, la sua incirconcisione non sarà essa reputata circoncisione?
27 And shall not that which by nature is uncircumcision, if it fulfill the law, judge thee, who by the letter and circumcision art a transgressor of the law?
E così colui che è per natura incirconciso, se adempie la legge, giudicherà te, che con la lettera e la circoncisione sei un trasgressore della legge.
28 For it is not he is a Jew, who is so outwardly; nor is that circumcision which is outwardly in the flesh:
Poiché Giudeo non è colui che è tale all’esterno; né è circoncisione quella che è esterna, nella carne;
29 But he is a Jew, that is one inwardly; and the circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God.
ma Giudeo è colui che lo è interiormente; e la circoncisione è quella del cuore, in ispirito, non in lettera; d’un tal Giudeo la lode procede non dagli uomini, ma da Dio.
