Romans 13
1 Let every soul be subject to higher powers: for there is no power but from God: and those that are, are ordained of God.
Ein jeder sei untertan der obrigkeitlichen Gewalt; gibt es doch keine Obrigkeit, sie wäre denn von Gott. Wo immer eine ist, da ist sie von Gott eingesetzt.
2 Therefore he that resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God. And they that resist, purchase to themselves damnation.
Wer sich also der Obrigkeit widersetzt, der widersetzt sich der Anordnung Gottes, und alle, die sich widersetzen, ziehen ihr Strafgericht sich selber zu.
3 For princes are not a terror to the good work, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? Do that which is good: and thou shalt have praise from the same.
Die Beamten sind kein Grund zur Furcht für die, die das Gute tun, sondern für die, die Böses tun. Du möchtest keinen Anlaß haben, die Obrigkeit zu fürchten? Tu, was recht ist, dann wirst du von ihr Lob erhalten.
4 For he is God’s minister to thee, for good. But if thou do that which is evil, fear: for he beareth not the sword in vain. For he is God’s minister: an avenger to execute wrath upon him that doth evil.
Sie ist für dich eine Gehilfin Gottes für das Gute. Doch wenn du Böses tust, dann fürchte dich. Sie trägt das Schwert nicht zwecklos; ist sie doch die Gehilfin Gottes, um rächend an denen seine Strafe zu vollziehen, die Böses tun.
5 Wherefore be subject of necessity, not only for wrath, but also for conscience’ sake.
So muß man also sich ihr unterwerfen nicht allein der Strafe wegen, vielmehr auch des Gewissens halber.
6 For therefore also you pay tribute. For they are the ministers of God, serving unto this purpose.
Deshalb bezahlt ihr auch Steuern; sind sie doch Diener Gottes, die gerade dazu angestellt sind.
7 Render therefore to all men their dues. Tribute, to whom tribute is due: custom, to whom custom: fear, to whom fear: honour, to whom honour.
So gebt denn jedem, was ihr schuldig seid: Steuer, wem Steuer, Zoll, wem Zoll; Ehrfurcht, wem Ehrfurcht, Ehre, wem Ehre gebührt.
8 Owe no man any thing, but to love one another. For he that loveth his neighbour, hath fulfilled the law.
Bleibt niemand etwas schuldig; außer, daß ihr einander liebet. Denn wer den Nächsten liebt, hat das Gesetz erfüllt.
9 For Thou shalt not commit adultery: Thou shalt not kill: Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness: Thou shalt not covet: and if there be any other commandment, it is comprised in this word, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
Denn die Gebote: "Du sollst nicht ehebrechen", "Du sollst nicht töten", "Du sollst nicht stehlen", Du sollst kein falsches Zeugnis geben, "Du sollst nicht begehren" und all die anderen Gebote sind in dem einen Gotteswort zusammengefaßt: "Du sollst deinen Nächsten lieben wie dich selbst!"
10 The love of our neighbour worketh no evil. Love therefore is the fulfilling of the law.
Die Liebe fügt dem Nächsten in keiner Weise Böses zu; die Liebe ist also die Vollendung des Gesetzes.
11 And that knowing the season; that it is now the hour for us to rise from sleep. For now our salvation is nearer than when we believed.
So handelt denn danach in richtiger Erkenntnis der Zeit, daß jetzt die Stunde für euch da ist, vom Schlafe aufzustehen. Unser Heil ist jetzt viel näher als damals, da wir gläubig wurden.
12 The night is passed, and the day is at hand. Let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and put on the armour of light.
Die Nacht ist vorangeschritten, der Tag hat sich genaht. So laßt uns ablegen die Werke der Finsternis, die Waffen des Lichtes aber anlegen.
13 Let us walk honestly, as in the day: not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and impurities, not in contention and envy:
Wir wollen ehrbar wandeln wie am hellen Tage, nicht in Schwelgereien und Gelagen, nicht in Wollust und Ausschweifung, nicht in Streit und Eifersucht.
14 But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh in its concupiscences.
Zieht vielmehr den Herrn Jesus Christus an und pflegt nicht das Fleisch, so daß es lüstern wird.
