< Psalms 99 >
1 A psalm for David himself. The Lord hath reigned, let the people be angry: he that sitteth on the cherubims: let the earth be moved.
The Lord reigns; let the nations tremble! He sits on his throne above the cherubim; let the earth shake!
2 The Lord is great in Sion, and high above all people.
The Lord rules supreme in Zion, he is sovereign over all the nations.
3 Let them give praise to thy great name: for it is terrible and holy:
Let them praise his greatness, and respect him for who he is—for he is holy,
4 And the king’s honour loveth judgment. Thou hast prepared directions: thou hast done judgment and justice in Jacob.
having kingly power. You love justice; you make impartial decisions. You have made sure everything is done in fairness and according to what's right.
5 Exalt ye the Lord our God, and adore his footstool, for it is holy.
Give respect to the Lord our God! Bow down at his feet, for he is holy!
6 Moses and Aaron among his priests: and Samuel among them that call upon his name. They called upon the Lord, and he heard them:
Moses and Aaron were among his priests; Samuel also prayed to him. They called out to the Lord for help, and he answered them.
7 He spoke to them in the pillar of the cloud. They kept his testimonies, and the commandment which he gave them.
He spoke to the people from the pillar of cloud, and they kept the laws and decrees he gave them.
8 Thou didst hear them, O Lord our God: thou wast a merciful God to them, and taking vengeance on all their inventions.
Lord our God, you answered them. You were a forgiving God to them, but you punished them when they did wrong.
9 Exalt ye the Lord our God, and adore at his holy mountain: for the Lord our God is holy.
Honor the Lord our God, and worship at his holy mountain. For the Lord our God is holy!
