Psalms 94
1 The Lord is the God to whom revenge belongeth: the God of revenge hath acted freely.
Gott, der du Vergeltung übst, o Jahwe, / Gott, der du Vergeltung übst, erscheine im Lichtglanz!
2 Lift up thyself, thou that judgest the earth: render a reward to the proud.
Erhebe dich, Richter der Erde, / Vergilt den Stolzen nach ihrem Tun!
3 How long shall sinners, O Lord: how long shall sinners glory?
Wie lange, Jahwe, sollen die Frevler, / Wie lange sollen die Frevler jauchzen?
4 Shall they utter, and speak iniquity: shall all speak who work injustice?
Sie stoßen trotzige Reden aus, / Alle Übeltäter prahlen.
5 Thy people, O Lord, they have brought low: and they have afflicted thy inheritance.
Dein Volk, o Jahwe, zertreten sie, / Und sie bedrücken dein Erbe.
6 They have slain the widow and the stranger: and they have murdered the fatherless.
Witwen und Fremdlinge würgen sie, / Und sie morden die Waisen.
7 And they have said: The Lord shall not see: neither shall the God of Jacob understand.
Dabei denken sie noch: "Jah siehet es nicht." / Und: "Der Gott Jakobs beachtet es nicht."
8 Understand, ye senseless among the people: and, you fools, be wise at last.
Merkt doch auf, ihr Toren im Volk, / Und ihr Narren — wann werdet ihr klug?
9 He that planted the ear, shall he not hear? or he that formed the eye, doth he not consider?
Der das Ohr gepflanzt — er sollte nicht hören? / Oder der das Auge gebildet, sollte nicht sehn?
10 He that chastiseth nations, shall he not rebuke: he that teacheth man knowledge?
Der Völker erziehet, sollte nicht strafen — / Er, der die Menschen Erkenntnis lehrt?
11 The Lord knoweth the thoughts of men, that they are vain.
Jahwe kennt der Menschen Gedanken, / Er weiß: Sie sind nichts als leerer Wahn.
12 Blessed is the man whom thou shalt instruct, O Lord: and shalt teach him out of thy law.
Heil dem, den du zurechtweist, Jah, / Den du aus deinem Gesetze belehrst,
13 That thou mayst give him rest from the evil days: till a pit be dug for the wicked.
Daß er ruhig bleibe in Unglückstagen, / Wenn dem Frevler die Grube gegraben wird.
14 For the Lord will not cast off his people: neither will he forsake his own inheritance.
Denn nicht verstoßen wird Jahwe sein Volk / Und sein Erbe nimmer verlassen.
15 Until justice be turned into judgment: and they that are near it are all the upright in heart.
Denn das Recht wird zuletzt doch gerecht gehandhabt, / Und alle Redlichen werden das freudig begrüßen.
16 Who shall rise up for me against the evildoers? or who shall stand with me against the workers of iniquity?
Wer wird mir beistehn gegen die Frevler, / Wer tritt für mich ein wider Übeltäter?
17 Unless the Lord had been my helper, my soul had almost dwelt in hell. (questioned)
Wäre nicht Jahwe mein Helfer gewesen — / Ich läge beinahe in Todesstille.
18 If I said: My foot is moved: thy mercy, O Lord, assisted me.
Wenn ich dachte: "Es wankt mein Fuß", / So sützte mich, Jahwe, deine Hand.
19 According to the multitude of my sorrows in my heart, thy comforts have given joy to my soul.
Wenn die Sorgen sich türmten in meinem Herzen, / Hast du mich mit deinem Troste erquickt.
20 Doth the seat of iniquity stick to thee, who framest labour in commandment?
Hat Gemeinschaft mit dir der verderbliche Stuhl, / Der Unheil schmiedet "nach dem Gesetz"?
21 They will hunt after the soul of the just, and will condemn innocent blood.
Sie bedrohten schon oft des Gerechten Leben / Und sprachen Unschuldige schuldig.
22 But the Lord is my refuge: and my God the help of my hope.
Doch Jahwe ward mir zur festen Burg, / Mein Gott zum schützenden Fels.
23 And he will render them their iniquity: and in their malice he will destroy them: the Lord our God will destroy them.
Ihren Frevel hast du ihnen heimgezahlt. / Ob ihrer Bosheit vernichtet er sie, / Es vernichtet sie Jahwe, unser Gott.
