< Psalms 57 >

1 Unto the end, destroy not, for David, for an inscription of a title, when he fled from Saul into the cave. Have mercy on me, O God, have mercy on me: for my soul trusteth in thee. And in the shadow of thy wings will I hope, until iniquity pass away.
Be merciful unto me, O God, be merciful unto me: for my soul trusts in you: yea, in the shadow of your wings will I make my refuge, until these calamities pass over.
2 I will cry to God the most High; to God who hath done good to me.
I will cry unto God most high; unto God that performs all things for me.
3 He hath sent from heaven and delivered me: he hath made them a reproach that trod upon me. God hath sent his mercy and his truth,
He shall send from heaven, and save me from the reproach of him that would swallow me up. (Selah) God shall send forth his mercy and his truth.
4 And he hath delivered my soul from the midst of the young lions. I slept troubled. The sons of men, whose teeth are weapons and arrows, and their tongue a sharp sword.
My soul is among lions: and I lie even among them that are set on fire, even the sons of men, whose teeth are spears and arrows, and their tongue a sharp sword.
5 Be thou exalted, O God, above the heavens, and thy glory above all the earth.
Be you exalted, O God, above the heavens; let your glory be above all the earth.
6 They prepared a snare for my feet; and they bowed down my soul. They dug a pit before my face, and they are fallen into it.
They have prepared a net for my steps; my soul is bowed down: they have dug a pit before me, into the midst whereof they are fallen themselves. (Selah)
7 My heart is ready, O God, my heart is ready: I will Sing, and rehearse a psalm.
My heart is fixed, O God, my heart is fixed: I will sing and give praise.
8 Arise, O my glory, arise psaltery and harp: I will arise early.
Awake up, my glory; awake, psaltery and harp: I myself will awake early.
9 I will give praise to thee, O Lord, among the people: I will sing a psalm to thee among the nations.
I will praise you, O Lord, among the people: I will sing unto you among the nations.
10 For thy mercy is magnified even to the heavens: and thy truth unto the clouds.
For your mercy is great unto the heavens, and your truth unto the clouds.
11 Be thou exalted, O God, above the heavens: and thy glory above all the earth.
Be you exalted, O God, above the heavens: let your glory be above all the earth.
