Psalms 45
1 Unto the end, for them that shall be changed, for the sons of Core, for understanding. A canticle for the Beloved. My heart hath uttered a good word I speak my works to the king; My tongue is the pen of a scrivener that writeth swiftly.
Au chef des chantres. Sur les Chochanim. Par les fils de Coré. Maskîl. Chant d’amour. Mon cœur agite un beau dessein; je veux consacrer mon poème au roi! Ma langue est le burin d’un scribe expert.
2 Thou art beautiful above the sons of men: grace is poured abroad in thy lips; therefore hath God blessed thee for ever.
Tu es beau entre tous les fils de l’homme, la grâce est répandue sur tes lèvres; aussi Dieu t’a-t-il béni pour toujours.
3 Gird thy sword upon thy thigh, O thou most mighty.
Ceins ton glaive sur ton flanc, ô héros, c’est ta parure et ton honneur;
4 With thy comeliness and thy beauty set out, proceed prosperously, and reign. Because of truth and meekness and justice: and thy right hand shall conduct thee wonderfully.
oui, ton honneur! Bon courage et en selle, pour défendre la vérité, la modestie, la justice! Que ta droite t’enseigne de beaux exploits!
5 Thy arrows are sharp: under thee shall people fall, into the hearts of the king’s enemies.
Tes flèches sont aiguës, des peuples succombent sous tes coups elles percent le cœur des ennemis du roi.
6 Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: the sceptre of thy kingdom is a sceptre of uprightness.
Ton trône, fondé par Dieu, durera à jamais; le sceptre de ta royauté est un sceptre de droiture.
7 Thou hast loved justice, and hated iniquity: therefore God, thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.
Tu aimes la justice, tu hais l’iniquité; voilà pourquoi Dieu ton Dieu t’a consacré par une huile d’allégresse, de préférence à tes compagnons.
8 Myrrh and stacte and cassia perfume thy garments, from the ivory houses: out of which
Myrrhe, aloès et casse parfument tes vêtements; du fond des palais d’ivoire les concerts te ravissent.
9 The daughters of kings have delighted thee in thy glory. The queen stood on thy right hand, in gilded clothing; surrounded with variety.
Des filles de rois figurent parmi tes favorites; la reine se tient à ta droite, parée de l’or d’Ophir.
10 Hearken, O daughter, and see, and incline thy ear: and forget thy people and thy father’s house.
Ecoute ma fille, ouvre les yeux, tends l’oreille: oublie ton peuple et la maison de ton père!
11 And the king shall greatly desire thy beauty; for he is the Lord thy God, and him they shall adore.
Que le roi s’éprenne de ta beauté, car il est ton maître incline-toi devant lui.
12 And the daughters of Tyre with gifts, yea, all the rich among the people, shall entreat thy countenance.
La fille de Tyr… Chargés de présents, les gens les plus opulents recherchent ta bienveillance.
13 All the glory of the king’s daughter is within in golden borders,
Toute resplendissante est la fille du roi dans son intérieur, sa robe est faite d’un tissu d’or.
14 Clothed round about with varieties. After her shall virgins be brought to the king: her neighbours shall be brought to thee.
Couverte de broderies, elle est introduite auprès du roi, suivie d’un cortège de jeunes filles, ses compagnes, qui sont amenées pour toi;
15 They shall be brought with gladness and rejoicing: they shall be brought into the temple of the king.
amenées avec des cris de joie et d’allégresse, elles pénètrent dans le palais du roi.
16 Instead of thy fathers, sons are born to thee: thou shalt make them princes over all the earth.
Que la place de tes pères soit occupée par tes fils! Puisses-tu les établir comme princes sur tout le pays!
17 They shall remember thy name throughout all generations. Therefore shall people praise thee for ever; yea, for ever and ever.
Je ferai en sorte que ton nom vive de siècle en siècle; aussi les nations te rendront-elles hommage à tout jamais!
