Psalms 34
1 For David, when he changed his countenance before Achimelech, who dismissed him, and he went his way. I will bless the Lord at all times, his praise shall be always in my mouth.
De David, alors qu’ayant simulé la folie devant Abimélec, il fut chassé par lui et se retira. Je bénirai l’Eternel en tout temps, constamment j’aurai ses louanges à la bouche.
2 In the Lord shall my soul be praised: let the meek hear and rejoice.
Mon âme trouve sa gloire en l’Eternel: que les humbles l’entendent et se réjouissent!
3 O magnify the Lord with me; and let us extol his name together.
Exaltez le Seigneur avec moi, ensemble célébrons son nom.
4 I sought the Lord, and he heard me; and he delivered me from all my troubles.
J’Ai cherché l’Eternel, il m’a exaucé; il m’a délivré de toutes mes terreurs.
5 Come ye to him and be enlightened: and your faces shall not be confounded.
Ceux qui tournent leurs regards vers lui sont rassérénés: leur visage ne rougit pas de honte.
6 This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him: and saved him out of all his troubles.
Voici un malheureux qui implore, et l’Eternel l’entend; il le protège contre toutes les souffrances.
7 The angel of the Lord shall encamp round about them that fear him: and shall deliver them.
Un ange du Seigneur est posté près de ceux qui le craignent, et les fait échapper au danger.
8 O taste, and see that the Lord is sweet: blessed is the man that hopeth in him.
Sentez et voyez que l’Eternel est bon: heureux l’homme qui s’abrite en lui!
9 Fear the Lord, all ye his saints: for there is no want to them that fear him.
Révérez l’Eternel, vous ses saints, car rien ne fait défaut à ses adorateurs.
10 The rich have wanted, and have suffered hunger: but they that seek the Lord shall not be deprived of any good.
Les lionceaux sont dépourvus et affamés, mais ceux qui recherchent l’Eternel ne manquent d’aucun bien.
11 Come, children, hearken to me: I will teach you the fear of the Lord.
Venez, enfants, écoutez-moi: je vous enseignerai la crainte de l’Eternel.
12 Who is the man that desireth life: who loveth to see good days?
Quel est l’homme qui souhaite la vie, qui aime de longs jours pour goûter le bonheur?
13 Keep thy tongue from evil, and thy lips from speaking guile.
Préserve ta langue du mal, et tes lèvres des discours perfides;
14 Turn away from evil and do good: seek after peace and pursue it.
éloigne-toi du mal et fais le bien, recherche la paix et la poursuis.
15 The eyes of the Lord are upon the just: and his ears unto their prayers.
Les yeux du Seigneur sont ouverts sur les justes, ses oreilles, attentives à leurs prières.
16 But the countenance of the Lord is against them that do evil things: to cut off the remembrance of them from the earth.
La colère de l’Eternel s’en prend aux malfaiteurs, pour extirper de la terre leur souvenir.
17 The just cried, and the Lord heard them: and delivered them out of all their troubles.
Ceux qui implorent, l’Eternel les entend, et il les délivre de tous leurs tourments.
18 The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a contrite heart: and he will save the humble of spirit.
L’Eternel est proche des cœurs brisés, il prête secours à ceux qui ont l’esprit contrit.
19 Many are the afflictions of the just; but out of them all will the Lord deliver them.
Nombreux sont les maux du juste, mais de tous l’Eternel les débarrasse.
20 The Lord keepeth all their bones, not one of them shall be broken.
Il protège tous ses membres: pas un n’est brisé.
21 The death of the wicked is very evil: and they that hate the just shall be guilty.
Là perversité cause la mort du pécheur, et les ennemis du juste courent à leur perte.
22 The Lord will redeem the souls of his servants: and none of them that trust in him shall offend.
L’Eternel sauve la vie de ses serviteurs, aucun de ceux qui s’abritent en lui ne se perd.
