Psalms 139
1 Lord, thou hast proved me, and known me:
Au maître de chant. Psaume de David. Yahweh, tu me sondes et tu me connais,
2 Thou hast know my sitting down, and my rising up.
tu sais quand je suis assis ou levé, tu découvres ma pensée de loin.
3 Thou hast understood my thoughts afar off: my path and my line thou hast searched out.
Tu m’observes quand je suis en marche ou couché, et toutes mes voies te sont familières.
4 And thou hast foreseen all my ways: for there is no speech in my tongue.
La parole n’est pas encore sur ma langue, que déjà, Yahweh, tu la connais entièrement.
5 Behold, O Lord, thou hast known all things, the last and those of old: thou hast formed me, and hast laid thy hand upon me.
En avant et en arrière tu m’entoures, et tu mets ta main sur moi:
6 Thy knowledge is become wonderful to me: it is high, and I cannot reach to it.
Science trop merveilleuse pour moi, elle est trop élevée pour que j’y puisse atteindre!
7 Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy face?
Où aller loin de ton esprit, où fuir loin de ta face?
Si je monte aux cieux, tu y es; si je me couche dans le schéol, te voilà! (Sheol h7585)
9 If I take my wings early in the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea:
Si je prends les ailes de l’aurore, et que j’ aille habiter aux confins de la mer,
10 Even there also shall thy hand lead me: and thy right hand shall hold me.
là encore ta main me conduira, et ta droite me saisira.
11 And I said: Perhaps darkness shall cover me: and night shall be my light in my pleasures.
Et je dis: Au moins les ténèbres me couvriront, et la nuit sera la seule lumière qui m’entoure!…
12 But darkness shall not be dark to thee, and night shall be light as day: the darkness thereof, and the light thereof are alike to thee.
Les ténèbres mêmes n’ont pas pour toi d’obscurité; pour toi la nuit brille comme le jour, et les ténèbres comme la lumière.
13 For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast protected me from my mother’s womb.
C’est toi qui as formé mes reins, et qui m’as tissé dans le sein de ma mère.
14 I will praise thee, for thou art fearfully magnified: wonderful are thy works, and my soul knoweth right well.
Je te loue d’avoir fait de moi une créature si merveilleuse; tes œuvres sont admirables, et mon âme se plaît à le reconnaître.
15 My bone is not hidden from thee, which thou hast made in secret: and my substance in the lower parts of the earth.
Ma substance n’était pas cachée devant toi, lorsque j’étais formé dans le secret, tissé avec art dans les profondeurs de la terre.
16 Thy eyes did see my imperfect being, and in thy book all shall be written: days shall be formed, and no one in them.
Je n’étais qu’un germe informe, et tes yeux me voyaient, et sur ton livre étaient tous inscrits les jours qui m’ étaient destinés, avant qu’aucun d’eux fût encore.
17 But to me thy friends, O God, are made exceedingly honourable: their principality is exceedingly strengthened.
Ô Dieu, que tes pensées me semblent ravissantes! Que le nombre en est grand!
18 I will number them, and they shall be multiplied above the sand: I rose up and am still with thee.
Si je compte, elles surpassent en nombre les grains de sable: je m’éveille, et je suis encore avec toi!
19 If thou wilt kill the wicked, O God: ye men of blood, depart from me:
Ô Dieu, ne feras-tu pas périr le méchant? Hommes de sang, éloignez-vous de moi!
20 Because you say in thought: They shall receive thy cities in vain.
Ils parlent de toi d’une manière criminelle, ils prennent ton nom en vain, eux, tes ennemis!
21 Have I not hated them, O Lord, that hated thee: and pine away because of thy enemies?
Ne dois-je pas, Yahweh, haïr ceux qui te haïssent, avoir en horreur ceux qui s’élèvent contre toi?
22 I have hated them with a perfect hatred: and they are become enemies to me.
Oui, je les hais d’une haine complète, ils sont pour moi des ennemis.
23 Prove me, O God, and know my heart: examine me, and know my paths.
Sonde-moi, ô Dieu, et connais mon cœur; éprouve-moi, et connais mes pensées.
24 And see if there be in me the way of iniquity: and lead me in the eternal way.
Regarde si je suis sur une voie funeste, et conduis-moi dans la voie éternelle.
