< Psalms 120 >

1 In my trouble I cried to the Lord: and he heard me.
A SONG OF THE ASCENTS. I have called to YHWH in my distress, And He answers me.
2 O Lord, deliver my soul from wicked lips, and a deceitful tongue.
O YHWH, deliver my soul from a lying lip, From a deceitful tongue!
3 What shall be given to thee, or what shall be added to thee, to a deceitful tongue.
What does He give to you? And what does He add to you? O deceitful tongue!
4 The sharp arrows of the mighty, with coals that lay waste.
Sharp arrows of a mighty one, with coals of broom trees.
5 Woe is me, that my sojourning is prolonged! I have dwelt with the inhabitants of cedar:
Woe to me, for I have inhabited Mesech, I have dwelt with tents of Kedar.
6 My soul hath been long a sojourner.
My soul has dwelt too much with him who is hating peace.
7 With them that hate peace I was peaceable: when I spoke to them they fought against me without cause.
I—peace, and when I speak they [are] for war!
