Proverbs 1
1 The parables of Solomon, the son of David, king of Israel.
੧ਦਾਊਦ ਦੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ ਇਸਰਾਏਲ ਦੇ ਰਾਜੇ ਸੁਲੇਮਾਨ ਦੀਆਂ ਕਹਾਉਤਾਂ,
2 To know wisdom, and instruction:
੨ਬੁੱਧ ਅਤੇ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਜਾਣਨ ਲਈ ਅਤੇ ਸਮਝ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਬੁੱਝਣ ਲਈ,
3 To understand the words of prudence: and to receive the instruction of doctrine, justice, and judgment, and equity:
੩ਚਤਰਾਈ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ, ਨਾਲੇ ਧਰਮ, ਨਿਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਇਨਸਾਫ਼ ਵੀ,
4 To give subtilty to little ones, to the young man knowledge and understanding.
੪ਭੋਲਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਿਆਣਪ ਅਤੇ ਜੁਆਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਗਿਆਨ ਅਤੇ ਮੱਤ ਦੇਣ ਲਈ,
5 A wise man shall hear and shall be wiser: and he that understandeth, shall possess governments.
੫ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਬੁੱਧਵਾਨ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਗਿਆਨ ਨੂੰ ਵਧਾਵੇ ਅਤੇ ਸਮਝ ਵਾਲਾ ਬੁੱਧ ਦੀਆਂ ਜੁਗਤਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰੇ,
6 He shall understand a parable, and the interpretation, the words of the wise, and their mysterious sayings.
੬ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਉਹ ਕਹਾਉਤਾਂ, ਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟਾਂਤਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਬੁੱਧਵਾਨਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਬੁਝਾਰਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਣ।
7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. Fools despise wisdom and instruction.
੭ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਦਾ ਭੈਅ ਮੰਨਣਾ ਗਿਆਨ ਦਾ ਮੁੱਢ ਹੈ, ਮੂਰਖ ਹੀ ਬੁੱਧ ਅਤੇ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਨੂੰ ਤੁੱਛ ਜਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ
8 My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother:
੮ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ, ਤੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਦਾ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਸੁਣ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਮਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਨੂੰ ਨਾ ਛੱਡੀਂ,
9 That grace may be added to thy head, and a chain of gold to thy neck.
੯ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਉਹ ਤੇਰੇ ਸਿਰ ਲਈ ਸ਼ਿੰਗਾਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਸਿਹਰਾ ਅਤੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਗਲ਼ ਦੇ ਲਈ ਕੈਂਠਾ ਹੋਣਗੀਆਂ।
10 My son, if sinners shall entice thee, consent not to them.
੧੦ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ, ਜੇ ਕਦੀ ਪਾਪੀ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਫ਼ੁਸਲਾਉਣ, ਤਾਂ ਤੂੰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਨਾ ਮੰਨੀ।
11 If they shall say: Come with us, let us lie in wait for blood, let us hide snares for the innocent without cause:
੧੧ਜੇ ਉਹ ਆਖਣ ਕਿ ਤੂੰ ਸਾਡੇ ਨਾਲ ਚੱਲ, ਅਸੀਂ ਖ਼ੂਨ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਘਾਤ ਲਾਈਏ, ਆਪਾਂ ਬੇਦੋਸ਼ਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰਨ ਲਈ ਘਾਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਲੁੱਕ ਕੇ ਬੈਠੀਏ,
12 Let us swallow him up alive like hell, and whole as one that goeth down into the pit. (Sheol h7585)
੧੨ਅਸੀਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਤਾਲ ਵਾਂਗੂੰ ਅਤੇ ਕਬਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਏ ਹੋਇਆਂ ਵਾਂਗੂੰ ਜੀਉਂਦਾ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਬਤਾ ਹੀ ਨਿਗਲ ਲਈਏ। (Sheol h7585)
13 We shall find all precious substance, we shall fill our houses with spoils.
੧੩ਸਾਨੂੰ ਸਭ ਪਰਕਾਰ ਦੇ ਅਣਮੁੱਲੇ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਮਿਲਣਗੇ, ਅਸੀਂ ਲੁੱਟ ਦੇ ਮਾਲ ਨਾਲ ਆਪਣੇ ਘਰ ਭਰ ਲਵਾਂਗੇ!
14 Cast in thy lot with us, let us all have one purse.
੧੪ਤੂੰ ਸਾਡੇ ਨਾਲ ਭਾਈਵਾਲ ਹੋ ਜਾ, ਸਾਡਾ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਇੱਕੋ ਹੀ ਬਟੂਆ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ।
15 My son, walk not thou with them, restrain thy foot from their paths.
੧੫ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਪੁੱਤਰ, ਤੂੰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਰਾਹ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਾ ਤੁਰੀਂ, ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਾਰਗ ਤੋਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਪੈਰ ਨੂੰ ਰੋਕ ਰੱਖੀਂ,
16 For their feet run to evil, and make haste to shed blood.
੧੬ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੈਰ ਬੁਰਿਆਈ ਕਰਨ ਨੂੰ ਭੱਜਦੇ ਅਤੇ ਖ਼ੂਨ ਕਰਨ ਨੂੰ ਫ਼ੁਰਤੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ!
17 But a net is spread in vain before the eyes of them that have wings.
੧੭ਕਿਸੇ ਪੰਛੀ ਦੇ ਵੇਖਦਿਆਂ ਜਾਲ਼ ਵਿਛਾਉਣਾ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਹੈ।
18 And they themselves lie in wait for their own blood, and practise deceits against their own souls.
੧੮ਉਹ ਆਪਣਾ ਹੀ ਖ਼ੂਨ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਘਾਤ ਲਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਹੀ ਜਾਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਲਈ ਲੁੱਕ ਕੇ ਜਾਲ਼ ਵਿਛਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
19 So the wage of every covetous man destroy the souls of the possessors.
੧੯ਨਫ਼ੇ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਲੋਭੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਚਾਲ ਅਜਿਹੀ ਹੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਾਲਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਜਾਨ ਲੈ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।
20 Wisdom preacheth abroad, she uttereth her voice in the streets:
੨੦ਬੁੱਧ ਗਲੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਉੱਚੀ-ਉੱਚੀ ਪੁਕਾਰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਚੌਂਕਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਹਾਕਾਂ ਮਾਰਦੀ ਹੈ।
21 At the head of multitudes she crieth out, in the entrance of the gates of the city she uttereth her words, saying:
੨੧ਉਹ ਬਜ਼ਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਿਰਿਆਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਹੋਕਾ ਦਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਫਾਟਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਲਾਂਘਿਆਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਇਹ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਆਖਦੀ ਹੈ,
22 O children, how long will you love childishness, and fools covet those things which are hurtful to themselves, and the unwise hate knowledge?
੨੨ਹੇ ਭੋਲਿਓ, ਤੁਸੀਂ ਕਦੋਂ ਤੱਕ ਭੋਲੇਪਣ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਰੱਖੋਗੇ? ਕਦੋਂ ਤੱਕ ਮਖ਼ੌਲੀਏ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਖ਼ੌਲਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਪਰਸੰਨ ਹੋਣਗੇ ਅਤੇ ਮੂਰਖ ਕਦੋਂ ਤੱਕ ਗਿਆਨ ਨਾਲ ਵੈਰ ਰੱਖਣਗੇ?
23 Turn ye at my reproof: behold I will utter my spirit to you, and will shew you my words.
੨੩ਮੇਰੀ ਝਿੜਕ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਮੁੜੋ! ਵੇਖੋ, ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣਾ ਆਤਮਾ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਵਹਾ ਦਿਆਂਗੀ, ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਬਚਨ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਾਵਾਂਗੀ।
24 Because I called, and you refused: I stretched out my hand, and there was none that regarded.
੨੪ਮੈਂ ਤਾਂ ਪੁਕਾਰਿਆ ਪਰ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਨਾ ਸੁਣਿਆ, ਮੈਂ ਹੱਥ ਪਸਾਰਿਆ ਪਰ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੇ ਵੀ ਧਿਆਨ ਨਾ ਕੀਤਾ,
25 You have despised all my counsel, and have neglected my reprehensions.
੨੫ਸਗੋਂ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਮੇਰੀਆਂ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਮੱਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਸਾਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ, ਅਤੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਤਾੜ ਦੀ ਕੁਝ ਚਾਹ ਨਾ ਕੀਤੀ।
26 I also will laugh in your destruction, and will mock when that shall come to you which you feared.
੨੬ਮੈਂ ਵੀ ਤੁਹਾਡੀ ਬਿਪਤਾ ਉੱਤੇ ਹੱਸਾਂਗੀ ਅਤੇ ਜਦ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਭੈਅ ਆ ਪਵੇਗਾ ਤਾਂ ਮੈਂ ਤੁਹਾਡਾ ਮਖ਼ੌਲ ਉਡਾਵਾਂਗੀ,
27 When sudden calamity shall fall on you, and destruction, as a tempest, shall be at hand: when tribulation and distress shall come upon you:
੨੭ਜਿਸ ਵੇਲੇ ਤੂਫ਼ਾਨ ਵਾਂਗੂੰ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਭੈਅ ਆ ਪਵੇਗਾ ਅਤੇ ਵਾਵਰੋਲੇ ਦੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਬਿਪਤਾ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਆਵੇਗੀ ਅਤੇ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਕਸ਼ਟ ਤੇ ਸੰਕਟ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ,
28 Then shall they call upon me, and I will not hear: they shall rise in the morning and shall not find me:
੨੮ਉਸ ਵੇਲੇ ਉਹ ਮੇਰੀਆਂ ਦੁਹਾਈਆਂ ਦੇਣਗੇ, ਪਰ ਮੈਂ ਉੱਤਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਦਿਆਂਗੀ, ਉਹ ਮਨ ਲਾ ਕੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਭਾਲਣਗੇ, ਪਰ ਮੈਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਾ ਲੱਭਾਂਗੀ,
29 Because they have hated instruction and received not the fear of the Lord,
੨੯ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਗਿਆਨ ਨਾਲ ਵੈਰ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਦਾ ਭੈਅ ਮੰਨਣਾ ਪਸੰਦ ਨਾ ਕੀਤਾ,
30 Nor consented to my counsel, but despised all my reproof.
੩੦ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਮੱਤ ਦੀ ਕੁਝ ਲੋੜ ਨਾ ਸਮਝੀ ਅਤੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਤਾੜ ਨੂੰ ਤੁੱਛ ਜਾਣਿਆ,
31 Therefore they shall eat the fruit of their own way, and shall be filled with their own devices.
੩੧ਇਸ ਲਈ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੀ ਕਰਨੀ ਦਾ ਫਲ ਭੋਗਣਗੇ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੀਆਂ ਜੁਗਤਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਰੱਜਣਗੇ,
32 The turning away of little ones shall kill them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them.
੩੨ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਭੋਲੇ ਲੋਕ ਭਟਕ ਜਾਣ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਮਾਰੇ ਜਾਣਗੇ ਅਤੇ ਮੂਰਖਾਂ ਦੀ ਲਾਪਰਵਾਹੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਨਾਸ ਕਰੇਗੀ।
33 But he that shall hear me, shall rest without terror, and shall enjoy abundance, without fear of evils.
੩੩ਪਰ ਜੋ ਮੇਰੀ ਸੁਣਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸੁੱਖ ਨਾਲ ਰਹੇਗਾ ਅਤੇ ਬਿਪਤਾ ਤੋਂ ਨਿਡਰ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਵੱਸੇਗਾ।
