Proverbs 6
1 My son, if thou be surety for thy friend, thou hast engaged fast thy hand to a stranger.
Mein Sohn, bist du Bürge geworden für deinen Nächsten, hast du für einen anderen deinen Handschlag gegeben,
2 Thou art ensnared with the words of thy mouth, and caught with thy own words.
bist du verstrickt durch die Reden deines Mundes, hast dich fangen lassen mit den Reden deines Mundes:
3 Do therefore, my son, what I say, and deliver thyself: because thou art fallen into the hand of thy neighbour. Run about, make haste, stir up thy friend:
so thue doch dieses, mein Sohn, daß du dich errettest - denn du bist in die Gewalt deines Nächsten geraten - gehe hin, wirf dich nieder und bestürme deinen Nächsten.
4 Give not sleep to thy eyes, neither let thy eyelids slumber.
Gönne deinen Augen keinen Schlaf, noch deinen Wimpern Schlummer.
5 Deliver thyself as a doe from the hand, and as a bird from the hand of the fowler.
Errette dich wie eine Gazelle aus seiner Gewalt, wie ein Vogel aus der Gewalt des Vogelstellers.
6 Go to the ant, O sluggard, and consider her ways, and learn wisdom:
Gehe hin zur Ameise, du Fauler; sieh ihre Weise an, daß du klug werdest!
7 Which, although she hath no guide, nor master, nor captain,
Obwohl sie keinen Fürsten hat, keinen Amtmann oder Gebieter,
8 Provideth her meat for herself in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest.
bereitet sie doch im Sommer ihr Brot, sammelt in der Erntezeit ihre Speise.
9 How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? when wilt thou rise out of thy sleep?
Wie lange, Fauler, willst du liegen? Wann willst du aufstehen von deinem Schlaf?
10 Thou wilt sleep a little, thou wilt slumber a little, thou wilt fold thy hands a little to sleep:
Ja, noch ein wenig Schlaf, ein wenig Schlummer, noch ein wenig die Hände ineinander schlagen, um zu ruhn:
11 And want shall come upon thee, as a traveller, and poverty as a man armed. But if thou be diligent, thy harvest shall come as a fountain, and want shall flee far from thee.
So kommt wie ein Landstreicher die Armut über dich und der Mangel wie ein gewappneter Mann!
12 A man that is an apostate, an unprofitable man, walketh with a perverse mouth,
Ein nichtsnutziger Mensch, ein heilloser Mann ist, wer mit Falschheit des Mundes wandelt,
13 He winketh with the eyes, presseth with the foot, speaketh with the finger.
wer mit seinen Augen blinzelt, mit seinen Füßen deutet, mit seinen Fingern Zeichen giebt,
14 With a wicked heart he deviseth evil, and at all times he soweth discord.
in dessen Herzen Verkehrtheit ist, der zu jeder Zeit Böses ersinnt, Zänkereien anrichtet.
15 To such a one his destruction shall presently come, and he shall suddenly be destroyed, and shall no longer have any remedy.
Darum wird urplötzlich Unglück über ihn kommen, plötzlich wird er unheilbar zerschellen.
16 Six things there are, which the Lord hateth, and the seventh his soul detesteth:
Sechs Stücke sind's, die Jahwe haßt, und sieben sind ihm ein Greuel:
17 Haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood,
Stolze Augen, eine falsche Zunge und Hände die unschuldiges Blut vergießen,
18 A heart that deviseth wicked plots, feet that are swift to run into mischief,
ein Herz, das arge Tücke ersinnt, Füße, die behende zu bösem Thun eilen,
19 A deceitful witness that uttereth lies, and him that soweth discord among brethren.
wer Lügen vorbringt als falscher Zeuge und wer zwischen Brüdern Zänkereien anrichtet. Warnung vor den buhlerischen Künsten des ehebrecherischen Weibes.
20 My son, beep the commandments of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother.
Bewahre, mein Sohn, das Gebot deines Vaters und verwirf nicht die Weisung deiner Mutter.
21 Bind them in thy heart continually, and put them about thy neck.
Binde sie dir immerdar aufs Herz, knüpfe sie dir um den Hals.
22 When thou walkest, let them go with thee: when thou sleepest, let them keep thee; and when thou awakest, talk with them.
Wenn du gehst, möge sie dich geleiten; wenn du dich legst, möge sie über dich wachen, und wenn du aufwachst, möge sie dich anreden.
23 Because the commandment is a lamp, and the law a light, and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:
Denn eine Leuchte ist das Gebot und die Weisung ein Licht, und ein Weg zum Leben sind die Rügen der Zucht,
24 That they may keep thee from the evil woman, and from the flattering tongue of the stranger.
daß du bewahrt werdest vor dem bösen Weibe, vor der glatten Zunge der Auswärtigen.
25 Let not thy heart covet her beauty, be not caught with her winks:
Laß dich in deinem Herzen nicht nach ihrer Schönheit gelüsten, noch fange sie dich mit ihren Wimpern.
26 For the price of a harlot is scarce one loaf: but the woman catcheth the precious soul of a man.
Denn durch ein Hurenweib kommt man herunter bis auf einen Laib Brot, aber eine Ehefrau erjagt ein edles Leben.
27 Can a man hide fire in his bosom, and his garments not burn?
Kann wohl jemand Feuer in seinem Busen holen, ohne daß seine Kleider brennen?
28 Or can he walk upon hot coals, and his feet not be burnt?
Oder kann jemand auf glühenden Kohlen gehen, ohne daß seine Füße wund gebrannt würden?
29 So he that goeth in to his neighbour’s wife, shall not be clean when he shall touch her.
Also ergeht's dem, der zu seines Nächsten Weib eingeht; keiner, der sie berührt, bleibt ungestraft.
30 The fault is not so great when a man hath stolen: for he stealeth to fill his hungry soul:
Man verachtet den Dieb nicht, wenn er stiehlt, um seine Gier zu stillen, weil ihn hungert;
31 And if he be taken he shall restore sevenfold, and shall give up all the substance of his house.
und wenn er ertappt wird, kann er's siebenfältig ersetzen, kann alles Gut seines Hauses hingeben.
32 But he that is an adulterer, for the folly of his heart shall destroy his own soul:
Wer aber mit einem Weibe die Ehe bricht, ist unsinnig; nur wer sich selbst ins Verderben bringen will, thut solches.
33 He gathereth to himself shame and dishonour, and his reproach shall not be blotted out:
Schaden und Schande gewinnt er, und seine Schmach ist unauslöschlich.
34 Because the jealousy and rage of the husband will not spare in the day of revenge,
Denn Eifersucht ist unversöhnlicher Mannesgrimm, und am Tage der Rache schont er nicht.
35 Nor will he yield to any man’s prayers, nor will he accept for satisfaction ever so many gifts.
Keinerlei Lösegeld kann ihn günstig stimmen; er giebt sich nicht zufrieden, ob du auch viel schenken wolltest.
