Proverbs 17
1 Better is a dry morsel with joy, than a house full of victims with strife.
Mejor un pedazo de pan seco en paz, que una casa llena de banquetes y comportamiento violento.
2 A wise servant shall rule over foolish sons, and shall divide the inheritance among the brethren.
Un siervo sabio tendrá dominio sobre un hijo indigno, y tendrá su parte en la herencia entre hermanos.
3 As silver is tried by fire, and gold in the furnace: so the Lord trieth the hearts.
La olla de calefacción es para la plata y el horno de fuego para él oro, pero el Señor es el que prueba los corazones.
4 The evil man obeyeth an unjust tongue: and the deceitful hearkeneth to lying lips.
Un malhechor presta atención a los labios malvados, y un hombre de engaño escucha una lengua dañina.
5 He that despiseth the poor, reproacheth his Maker; and he that rejoiceth at another man’s ruin, shall not be unpunished.
El que se burla de los pobres avergüenza a su Hacedor; y el que se alegra por el problema no quedará libre del castigo.
6 Children’s children are the crown of old men: and the glory of children are their fathers.
Los nietos son la corona de los ancianos, y la gloria de los hijos son sus padres.
7 Eloquent words do not become a fool, nor lying lips a prince.
Las palabras justas no deben buscarse en un hombre necio, y mucho menos son labios falsos en un gobernante.
8 The expectation of him that expecteth, is a most acceptable jewel: whithersoever he turneth himself, he understandeth wisely.
El soborno es como una piedra de gran precio a los ojos del que la tiene: a donde sea que vaya, lo hace bien.
9 He that concealeth a transgression. seeketh friendships: he that repeateth it again, separateth friends.
El que guarda el pecado cubierto está buscando el amor; pero el que sigue hablando de algo hace división entre amigos.
10 A reproof availeth more with a wise man, than a hundred stripes with a fool.
Una palabra de corrección profundiza más en alguien que tiene sentido, que cien golpes en un hombre tonto.
11 An evil man always seeketh quarrels: but a cruel angel shall be sent against him.
Un hombre descontrolado solo busca problemas, por lo que un criado cruel será enviado contra él.
12 It is better to meet a bear robbed of her whelps, than a fool trusting in his own folly.
Es mejor encontrarse cara a cara con un oso al que se han llevado sus crías que con un hombre necio que actúa tontamente.
13 He that rendereth evil for good, evil shall not depart from his house.
Si alguno devuelve el mal por bien, el mal nunca se irá de su casa.
14 The beginning of quarrels is as when one letteth out water: before he suffereth reproach he forsaketh judgment.
El comienzo de la lucha es como dejar salir el agua: así que ríndete antes de recibir golpes.
15 He that justifieth the wicked, and he that condemneth the just, both are abominable before God.
El que toma una decisión por el malhechor y el que toma una decisión contra el recto, son igualmente repugnantes para el Señor.
16 What doth it avail a fool to have riches, seeing he cannot buy wisdom? He that maketh his house high, seeketh a downfall: and he that refuseth to learn, shall fall into evils.
¿Cómo el dinero en mano de los necios obtendrá sabiduría, viendo que no tiene entendimiento?
17 He that is a friend loveth at all times: and a brother is proved in distress.
Un amigo es amoroso en todo momento, y se convierte en hermano en tiempos de problemas.
18 A foolish man will clap hands, when he is surety for his friend.
Un hombre sin sentido da su fianza, y se hace responsable ante su prójimo.
19 He that studieth discords, loveth quarrels: and he that exalteth his door, seeketh ruin.
El amante de la contienda es un amante del pecado: el que abre la puerta busca la destrucción.
20 He that is of a perverse heart, shall not find good: and he that perverteth his tongue, shall fall into evil.
Nada bueno le sucede a aquel cuyo corazón está fijado en propósitos malvados; y el que tiene lengua maligna tendrá problemas.
21 A fool is born to his own disgrace: and even his father shall not rejoice in a fool.
El que tiene un hijo impío, se aflige, y el padre de un hijo necio no se alegra.
22 A joyful mind maketh age flourishing: a sorrowful spirit drieth up the bones.
Un corazón alegre hace un cuerpo sano, pero un espíritu aplastado seca los huesos.
23 The wicked man taketh gifts out of the bosom, that he may pervert the paths of judgment.
Un pecador toma un soborno en secreto, para tomar una decisión por sí mismo en una causa.
24 Wisdom shineth in the face of the wise: the eyes of fools are in the ends of the earth.
La sabiduría está delante del que tiene sentido; pero los ojos de los necios vagan en los confines de la tierra.
25 A foolish son is the anger of the father: and the sorrow of the mother that bore him.
Un hijo necio es un dolor para su padre, y un dolor amargo para la que lo dio a luz.
26 It is no good thing to do hurt to the just: nor to strike the prince, who judgeth right.
Castigar los rectos no es bueno, o dar golpes a los nobles por su justicia.
27 He that setteth bounds to his words. is knowing and wise: and the man of understanding is of a precious spirit.
El que tiene conocimiento dice poco; y el que tiene espíritu tranquilo es un hombre de buen juicio.
28 Even a fool, if he will hold his peace shall be counted wise: and if he close his lips, a man of understanding.
Aun el necio, cuando calla, es sabio: cuando cierra los labios, se le acredita el buen juicio.
