Proverbs 13
1 A wise son heareth the doctrine of his father: but he that is a scorner, beareth not when he is reproved.
Ein weiser Sohn hört auf die [And. üb.: ist das Ergebnis der] Unterweisung des Vaters, aber ein Spötter hört nicht auf Schelten.
2 Of the fruit of his own mouth shall a man be filled with good things: but the soul of transgressors is wicked.
Von der Frucht seines Mundes ißt ein Mann Gutes, aber die Seele der Treulosen ißt Gewalttat. [O. die Gier der Treulosen ist Gewalttat]
3 He that keepeth his mouth, keepeth his soul: but he that hath no guard on his speech shall meet with evils.
Wer seinen Mund bewahrt, behütet seine Seele; wer seine Lippen aufreißt, dem wirds zum Untergang.
4 The sluggard willeth and willeth not: but the soul of them that work, shall be made fat.
Die Seele des Faulen begehrt, und nichts ist da; aber die Seele der Fleißigen wird reichlich gesättigt.
5 The just shall hate a lying word: but the wicked confoundeth, and shall be confounded.
Der Gerechte haßt Lügenrede, [O. Lügnerisches] aber der Gesetzlose handelt schändlich und schmählich. [O. bringt in Schande [od. üblen Geruch] und in Schmach]
6 Justice keepeth the way of the innocent: but wickedness overthroweth the sinner.
Die Gerechtigkeit behütet den im Wege Vollkommenen, und die Gesetzlosigkeit kehrt den Sünder um.
7 One is as it were rich, when he hath nothing: and another is as it were poor, when he hath great riches.
Da ist einer, der sich reich stellt und hat gar nichts, und einer, der sich arm stellt und hat viel Vermögen.
8 The ransom of a man’s life are his riches: but he that is poor beareth not reprehension.
Lösegeld für das Leben eines Mannes ist sein Reichtum, aber der Arme hört keine Drohung.
9 The light of the just giveth joy: but the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.
Das Licht der Gerechten brennt fröhlich, aber die Leuchte der Gesetzlosen erlischt.
10 Among the proud there are always contentions: but they that do all things with counsel, are ruled by wisdom.
Durch Übermut gibt es nur Zank; bei denen aber, die sich raten lassen, Weisheit.
11 Substance got in haste shall be diminished: but that which by little and little is gathered with the hand shall increase.
Vermögen, das auf nichtige Weise erworben ist, vermindert sich; wer aber allmählich [Eig. auf der Hand, od. handweise] sammelt, vermehrt es.
12 Hope that is deferred afflicteth the soul: desire when it cometh is a tree of life.
Lang hingezogenes Harren macht das Herz krank, aber ein eingetroffener Wunsch ist ein Baum des Lebens.
13 Whosoever speaketh ill of any thing, bindeth himself for the time to come: but he that feareth the commandment, shall dwell in peace. Deceitful souls go astray in sins: the just are merciful, and shew mercy.
Wer das Wort verachtet, wird von ihm gepfändet; wer aber das Gebot fürchtet, dem wird vergolten werden.
14 The law of the wise is a fountain of life, that he may decline from the ruin of death.
Die Belehrung des Weisen ist ein Born des Lebens, um zu entgehen den Fallstricken des Todes.
15 Good instruction shall give grace: in the way of scorners is a deep pit.
Gute Einsicht verschafft Gunst, aber der Treulosen Weg ist hart.
16 The prudent mall doth all things with counsel: but he that is a fool, layeth open his folly.
Jeder Kluge handelt mit Bedacht; ein Tor aber breitet Narrheit aus.
17 The messenger of the wicked shall fall into mischief: but a faithful ambassador is health.
Ein gottloser Bote fällt [Viell. ist zu l.: stürzt] in Unglück, aber ein treuer Gesandter ist Gesundheit.
18 Poverty and shame to him that refuseth instruction: but he that yieldeth to reproof, shall be glorified.
Armut und Schande dem, der Unterweisung verwirft; wer aber Zucht beachtet, wird geehrt.
19 The desire that is accomplished, delighteth the soul: fools hate them that flee from evil things.
Ein erfülltes Begehren ist der Seele süß, und den Toren ists ein Greuel, vom Bösen zu weichen.
20 He that walketh with the wise, shall be wise: a friend of fools shall become like to them.
Wer mit Weisen umgeht, wird weise; aber wer sich zu Toren gesellt, wird schlecht.
21 Evil pursueth sinners: and to the just good shall be repaid.
Das Böse verfolgt die Sünder, aber den Gerechten wird man mit Gutem vergelten.
22 The good man leaveth heirs, sons, and grandsons: and the substance of the sinner is kept for the just.
Der Gute vererbt auf Kindeskinder, aber des Sünders Reichtum ist aufbewahrt für den Gerechten.
23 Much food is in the tillage of fathers: but for others it is gathered with out judgment.
Der Neubruch der Armen gibt viel Speise, aber mancher geht zu Grunde durch Unrechtlichkeit.
24 He that spareth the rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him correcteth him betimes.
Wer seine Rute spart, haßt seinen Sohn, aber wer ihn lieb hat, sucht ihn früh heim mit Züchtigung.
25 The just eateth and filleth his soul: but the belly of the wicked is never to be filled.
Der Gerechte ißt bis zur Sättigung seiner Seele, aber der Leib der Gesetzlosen muß darben.
