< Numbers 10 >

1 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying:
And YHWH speaks to Moses, saying,
2 Make thee two trumpets of beaten silver, wherewith thou mayest call together the multitude when the camp is to be removed.
“Make two trumpets of silver for yourself; you make them of beaten work, and they have been for you for the convocation of the congregation, and for the journeying of the camps;
3 And when thou shalt sound the trumpets, all the multitude shall gather unto thee to the door of the tabernacle of the covenant.
and they have blown with them, and all the congregation has assembled to you at the opening of the Tent of Meeting.
4 If thou sound but once, the princes and the heads of the multitude of Israel shall come to thee.
And if they blow with one, then the princes, heads of the thousands of Israel, have assembled to you;
5 But if the sound of the trumpets be longer, and with interruptions, they that are on the east side, shall first go forward.
and you have blown—a shout, and the camps which are encamping eastward have journeyed.
6 And at the second sounding and like noise of the trumpet, they who lie on the south side shall take up their tents. And after this manner shall the rest do, when the trumpets shall sound for a march.
And you have blown—a second shout, and the camps which are encamping southward have journeyed; they blow a shout for their journeys.
7 But when the people is to be gathered together, the sound of the trumpets shall be plain, and they shall not make a broken sound.
And in the assembling of the assembly you blow, and do not shout;
8 And the sons of Aaron the priest shall sound the trumpets: and this shall be an ordinance for ever in your generations.
and sons of Aaron, the priests, blow with the trumpets; and they have been for a continuous statute to you throughout your generations.
9 If you go forth to war out of your land against the enemies that fight against you, you shall sound aloud with the trumpets, and there shall be a remembrance of you before the Lord your God, that you may be delivered out of the hands of your enemies.
And when you go into battle in your land against the adversary who is distressing you, then you have shouted with the trumpets, and you have been remembered before your God YHWH, and you have been saved from your enemies.
10 If at any time you shall have a banquet, and on your festival days, and on the first days of your months, you shall sound the trumpets over the holocausts, and the sacrifices of peace offerings, that they may be to you for a remembrance of your God. I am the Lord your God.
And in the day of your gladness, and in your appointed times, and in the beginnings of your months, you have also blown with the trumpets over your burnt-offerings, and over the sacrifices of your peace-offerings, and they have been for a memorial to you before your God; I [am] your God YHWH.”
11 The second year, in the second month, the twentieth day of the month, the cloud was taken up from the tabernacle of the covenant.
And it comes to pass, in the second year, in the second month, on the twentieth of the month, the cloud has gone up from off the Dwelling Place of the Testimony,
12 And the children of Israel marched by their troops from the desert of Sinai, and the cloud rested in the wilderness of Pharan.
and the sons of Israel journey in their journeys from the wilderness of Sinai, and the cloud dwells in the wilderness of Paran;
13 And the first went forward according to the commandment of the Lord by the hand of Moses.
and they journey at first by the command of YHWH in the hand of Moses.
14 The sons of Juda by their troops: whose prince was Nahasson the son of Aminadab.
And the standard of the camp of the sons of Judah journeys in the first [place], by their hosts, and over its host [is] Nahshon son of Amminadab.
15 In the tribe of the sons of Issachar, the prince was Nathanael the son of Suar.

And over the host of the tribe of the sons of Zebulun [is] Eliab son of Helon.
17 And the tabernacle was taken down, and the sons of Gerson and Merari set forward, bearing it.
And the Dwelling Place has been taken down, and the sons of Gershon and the sons of Merari have journeyed, carrying the Dwelling Place.
18 And the sons of Ruben also marched, by their troops and ranks, whose prince was Helisur the son of Sedeur.
And the standard of the camp of Reuben has journeyed, by their hosts, and over its host [is] Elizur son of Shedeur.
19 And in the tribe of Simeon, the prince was Salamiel the son of Surisaddai.
And over the host of the tribe of the sons of Simeon [is] Shelumiel son of Zurishaddai.
20 And in the tribe of Cad, the prince was Eliasaph the son of Duel.
And over the host of the tribe of the sons of Gad [is] Eliasaph son of Deuel.
21 Then the Caathites also marched carrying the sanctuary. So long was the tabernacle carried, till they same to the place of setting it up.
And the Kohathites have journeyed, carrying the Dwelling Place, and the [others] have raised up the Dwelling Place until their coming in.
22 The sons of Ephraim also moved their camp by their troops, in whose army the prince was Elisama the son of Ammiud.
And the standard of the camp of the sons of Ephraim has journeyed, by their hosts, and over its host [is] Elishama son of Ammihud.
23 And in the tribe of the sons of Manasses, the prince was Gamaliel the son of Phadassur.
And over the host of the tribe of the sons of Manasseh [is] Gamalial son of Pedahzur.
24 And in the tribe of Benjamin, the prince was Abidan the son of Gedeon.
And over the host of the tribe of the sons of Benjamin [is] Abidan son of Gideoni.
25 The last of all the camp marched the sons of Dan by their troops, in whose army the prince was Ahiezer the son of Ammisaddai.
And the standard of the camp of the sons of Dan has journeyed (rearward to all the camps), by their hosts, and over its host [is] Ahiezer son of Ammishaddai.
26 And in the tribe of the sons of Aser, the prince was Phegiel the son of Ochran.
And over the host of the tribe of the sons of Asher [is] Pagiel son of Ocran.
27 And in the tribe of the sons of Nephtali, the prince was Ahira the son of Enan.
And over the host of the tribe of the sons of Naphtali [is] Ahira son of Enan.
28 This was the order of the camps, and marches of the children of Israel by their troops, when they set forward.
These [are] the journeys of the sons of Israel by their hosts when they journey.
29 And Moses said to Hobab the son of Raguel the Madianite, his kinsman: We are going towards the place which the Lord will give us: come with us, that we may do thee good: for the Lord hath promised good things to Israel.
And Moses says to Hobab son of Raguel the Midianite, father-in-law of Moses, “We are journeying to the place of which YHWH has said, I give it to you; go with us, and we have done good to you, for YHWH has spoken good concerning Israel.”
30 But he answered him: I will not go with thee, but I will return to my country, wherein I was born.
And he says to him, “I do not go; but I go to my land and to my family.”
31 And he said: Do not leave us: for thou knowest in what places we should encamp in the wilderness, and thou shalt be our guide.
And he says, “Please do not forsake us, because you have known our encamping in the wilderness, and you have been to us for eyes;
32 And if thou comest with us, we will give thee what is the best of the riches which the Lord shall deliver to us.
and it has come to pass, when you go with us—indeed, it has come to pass—that good which YHWH does kindly with us, we have done it kindly to you.”
33 So they marched from the mount of the Lord three days’ journey, and the ark of the covenant of the Lord went before them, for three days providing a place for the camp.
And they journey from the mountain of YHWH a journey of three days; and the Ark of the Covenant of YHWH is journeying before them [for] the journey of three days, to spy out a resting place for them;
34 The cloud also of the Lord was over them by day when they marched.
and the cloud of YHWH [is] on them by day, in their journeying from the camp.
35 And when the ark was lifted up, Moses said: Arise, O Lord, and let thy enemies be scattered, and let them that hate thee, flee from before thy face.
And it comes to pass in the journeying of the Ark, that Moses says, “Rise, O YHWH, and Your enemies are scattered, and those hating You flee from Your presence.”
36 And when it was set down, he said: Return, O Lord, to the multitude of the host of Israel.
And in its resting he says, “Return, O YHWH, [to] the myriads, the thousands of Israel.”
