Mark 14
1 Now the feast of the pasch, and of the Azymes was after two days; and the chief priests and the scribes sought how they might by some wile lay hold on him, and kill him.
Deux jours après, c'étaient la Pâque et les Azymes. Les chefs des prêtres et les Scribes cherchaient un moyen de s'emparer de Jésus par ruse et de le tuer;
2 But they said: Not on the festival day, lest there should be a tumult among the people.
ils disaient cependant: «Rien pendant la fête, le peuple pourrait se soulever.»
3 And when he was in Bethania, in the house of Simon the leper, and was at meat, there came a woman having an alabaster box of ointment of precious spikenard: and breaking the alabaster box, she poured it out upon his head.
Jésus était à Béthanie dans la maison de Simon le lépreux. Comme il était à table, il vint une femme portant un vase d'albâtre rempli d'un très précieux parfum (de l'huile de nard pur); et, brisant le vase d'albâtre, elle en répandit le contenu sur la tête de Jésus.
4 Now there were some that had indignation within themselves, and said: Why was this waste of the ointment made?
Or il s'en trouva quelques-uns qui en furent, à part eux, indignés: «A quoi bon perdre ainsi ce parfum?» —
5 For this ointment might have been sold for more than three hundred pence, and given to the poor. And they murmured against her.
On aurait pu vendre ce parfum-là plus de trois cents denier set en donner le prix aux pauvres.» Ils étaient exaspérés contre cette femme.
6 But Jesus said: Let her alone, why do you molest her? She hath wrought a good work upon me.
Mais Jésus dit: «Laissez-la; pourquoi lui faites-vous de la peine? C'est une bonne oeuvre qu'elle a faite pour moi.
7 For the poor you have always with you: and whensoever you will, you may do them good: but me you have not always.
Car les pauvres vous les avez toujours avec vous; et quand vous le voulez, vous pouvez leur faire du bien; tandis que moi vous ne m'avez pas pour toujours.
8 She hath done what she could: she is come beforehand to anoint my body for burial.
Elle a fait ce qu'elle a pu. A l'avance, elle a parfumé mon corps pour la sépulture.
9 Amen, I say to you, wheresoever this gospel shall be preached in the whole world, that also which she hath done, shall be told for a memorial of her.
En vérité, je vous le dis, partout où sera prêché l'Évangile — dans le monde entier — on racontera aussi, en mémoire d'elle, ce qu'elle a fait.»
10 And Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve, went to the chief priests, to betray him to them.
Cependant Judas l'Iskariôte, un des douze, alla trouver les chefs des prêtres pour le leur livrer.
11 Who hearing it were glad; and they promised him they would give him money. And he sought how he might conveniently betray him.
Ses paroles les mirent dans la joie, et ils lui promirent de lui donner de l'argent. Il chercha alors une occasion pour le livrer.
12 Now on the first day of the unleavened bread, when they sacrificed the pasch, the disciples say to him: Whither wilt thou that we go, and prepare for thee to eat the pasch?
Le premier jour des Azymes, le jour où l'on sacrifie la Pâque, les disciples dirent à Jésus: «Où veux-tu que nous allions te préparer ce qui est nécessaire pour le repas pascal?» —
13 And he sendeth two of his disciples, and saith to them: Go ye into the city; and there shall meet you a man carrying a pitcher of water, follow him;
«Allez à la ville» leur répondit-il en y envoyant deux d'entre eux; «vous rencontrerez un homme portant une cruche d'eau; vous le suivrez
14 And whithersoever he shall go in, say to the master of the house, The master saith, Where is my refectory, where I may eat the pasch with my disciples?
et voici comment vous parlerez au propriétaire de la maison où il entrera: Le maître dit: «Où est la chambre qui m'est destinée et où je mangerai la Pâque avec mes disciples.»
15 And he will shew you a large dining room furnished; and there prepare ye for us.
Lui-même alors vous montrera une chambre haute, grande, garnie de tapis, toute prête. C'est là que vous ferez pour nous les préparatifs.»
16 And his disciples went their way, and came into the city; and they found as he had told them, and they prepared the pasch.
Les disciples partirent, allèrent à la ville, trouvèrent toutes choses comme il les leur avait dites, et préparèrent la Pâque.
17 And when evening was come, he cometh with the twelve.
Le soir venu, il s'y rendit avec les douze.
18 And when they were at table and eating, Jesus saith: Amen I say to you, one of you that eateth with me shall betray me.
Pendant qu'ils étaient à table et qu'ils mangeaient, Jésus dit: «En vérité je vous le dis, l'un de vous — qui mange avec moi me livrera.»
19 But they began to be sorrowful, and to say to him one by one: Is it I?
Ils devinrent tout tristes et lui demandèrent l'un après l'autre: «Est-ce moi?»
20 Who saith to them: One of the twelve, who dippeth with me his hand in the dish.
Il leur répondit: «C'est l'un des douze, c'est celui qui met la main au plat avec moi.
21 And the Son of man indeed goeth, as it is written of him: but woe to that man by whom the Son of man shall be betrayed. It were better for him, if that man had not been born.
Car le Fils de l'homme s'en va, selon qu'il est écrit de lui, mais malheur à cet homme par qui le Fils de l'homme est livré! Mieux vaudrait pour cet homme-là ne jamais être né!»
22 And whilst they were eating, Jesus took bread; and blessing, broke, and gave to them, and said: Take ye. This is my body.
Pendant qu'ils mangeaient, il prit du pain et, ayant prononcé la bénédiction, il le rompit et le leur donna en disant: «Prenez! ceci est mon corps.»
23 And having taken the chalice, giving thanks, he gave it to them. And they all drank of it.
Prenant ensuite une coupe, il rendit grâces, la leur donna et ils en burent tous.
24 And he said to them: This is my blood of the new testament, which shall be shed for many.
«Ceci est mon sang, leur dit-il, le sang de l'alliance, lequel est répandu pour plusieurs.
25 Amen I say to you, that I will drink no more of the fruit of the vine, until that day when I shall drink it new in the kingdom of God.
En vérité, je vous le dis, je ne boirai plus jamais du fruit de la vigne jusqu'en ce jour où je le boirai nouveau dans le Royaume de Dieu.»
26 And when they had said an hymn, they went forth to the mount of Olives.
Après le chant des Psaumes, ils partirent pour le Mont des Oliviers,
27 And Jesus saith to them: You will all be scandalized in my regard this night; for it is written, I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep shall be dispersed.
et Jésus leur dit: «Tous, vous rencontrerez une occasion de tomber, car il est écrit: «Je frapperai le berger et les brebis seront dispersées; »
28 But after I shall be risen again, I will go before you into Galilee.
«Mais après ma résurrection je vous précéderai en Galilée.»
29 But Peter saith to him: Although all shall be scandalized in thee, yet not I.
Pierre lui dit: «Quand même tous viendraient à faillir, moi, jamais!»
30 And Jesus saith to him: Amen I say to thee, today, even in this night, before the cock crow twice, thou shall deny me thrice.
Jésus lui répondit: «En vérité je te dis que toi-même, aujourd’hui, durant cette nuit, avant qu'un coq chante deux fois, tu me renieras trois fois.»
31 But he spoke the more vehemently: Although I should die together with thee, I will not deny thee. And in like manner also said they all.
Pierre cependant insistait toujours plus: «Me fallût-il mourir avec toi, non, je ne te renierai pas!» Et tous parlèrent de même.
32 And they came to a farm called Gethsemani. And he saith to his disciples: Sit you here, while I pray.
Ils vinrent en un lieu du nom de Gethsémané, et Jésus dit à ses disciples: «Asseyez-vous ici pendant que je prierai.»
33 And he taketh Peter and James and John with him; and he began to fear and to be heavy.
Puis il prit avec lui Pierre, Jacques et Jean, et il commença à être dans l'abattement et dans l'angoisse;
34 And he saith to them: My soul is sorrowful even unto death; stay you here, and watch.
et il leur dit: «Mon âme est accablée de tristesse jusqu'à la mort. Restez ici et veillez!»
35 And when he was gone forward a little, he fell flat on the ground; and he prayed, that if it might be, the hour might pass from him.
Puis, s'étant un peu avancé, il se prosternait la face contre terre, priant pour que cette heure, si cela était possible, passât loin de lui.
36 And he saith: Abba, Father, all things are possible to thee: remove this chalice from me; but not what I will, but what thou wilt.
Il disait: «Abba! Père! tout t'est possible à toi! Écarte loin de moi cette coupe; cependant, non pas ce que je veux, mais ce que tu veux.»
37 And he cometh, and findeth them sleeping. And he saith to Peter: Simon, sleepest thou? couldst thou not watch one hour?
Il revint et il les trouva qui dormaient, et il dit à Pierre: «Tu dors, Simon! n'as-tu pas eu la force de veiller une seule heure?
38 Watch ye, and pray that you enter not into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.
Veillez et priez pour ne pas succomber à l'épreuve! Certes l'esprit est prompt, mais la chair est faible.
39 A going away again, he prayed, saying the same words.
Il s'éloigna de nouveau et pria, répétant les mêmes paroles;
40 And when he returned, he found them again asleep, (for their eyes were heavy, ) and they knew not what to answer him.
puis il revint encore et les trouva qui s'étaient endormis; leurs yeux en effet étaient appesantis, et ils ne savaient que lui répondre.
41 And he cometh the third time, and saith to them: Sleep ye now, and take your rest. It is enough: the hour is come: behold the Son of man shall be betrayed into the hands of sinners.
La troisième fois qu'il revint, il leur dit: «Dormez maintenant; reposez-vous; c'est assez, l'heure est venue! Le Fils de l'homme va être livré entre les mains des pécheurs!
42 Rise up, let us go. Behold, he that will betray me is at hand.
Levez-vous! Allons! Voici celui qui me livre! Il approche!»
43 And while he was yet speaking, cometh Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve: and with him a great multitude with swords and staves, from the chief priests and the scribes and the ancients.
Au même instant, pendant qu'il parlait encore, arrive Judas, l'un des douze, et avec lui, envoyée par les chefs des prêtres, les Scribes et les Anciens, une troupe armée d'épées et de bâtons.
44 And he that betrayed him, had given them a sign, saying: Whomsoever I shall kiss, that is he; lay hold on him, and lead him away carefully.
Le traître était convenu avec eux d'un signal. Il leur avait dit: «Celui auquel je donnerai un baiser, ce sera lui. Vous vous en saisirez et l'emmènerez sûrement.
45 And when he was come, immediately going up to him, he saith: Hail, Rabbi; and he kissed him.
Donc, en arrivant, il s'approcha de Jésus et l'appelant: «Rabbi», il l'embrassa avec effusion.
46 But they laid hands on him, and held him.
Eux alors mirent la main sur lui et le saisirent.
47 An one of them that stood by, drawing a sword, struck a servant of the chief priest, and cut off his ear.
Mais un de ceux qui étaient présents, tirant l'épée, frappa le serviteur du Grand-Prêtre et lui coupa l'oreille:
48 And Jesus answering, said to them: Are you come out as to a robber, with swords and staves to apprehend me?
Jésus alors prononça ces paroles: «Pour vous emparer de moi, vous êtes venus, comme contre un brigand, avec des épées et des bâtons.
49 I was daily with you in the temple teaching, and you did not lay hands on me. But that the scriptures may be fulfilled.
Tous les jours, j'étais au milieu de vous, dans le Temple, j'enseignais et vous ne m'avez pas arrêté. Mais il en est ainsi pour que soient accomplies les Écritures.»
50 Then his disciples leaving him, all fled away.
L'abandonnant alors, tous les disciples prirent la fuite.
51 And a certain young man followed him, having a linen cloth cast about his naked body; and they laid hold on him.
Seul, un jeune homme le suivait; il n'avait sur le corps qu'un léger vêtement. On saisit ce jeune homme,
52 But he, casting off the linen cloth, fled from them naked.
mais il s'échappa tout nu, abandonnant son vêtement.
53 And they brought Jesus to the high priest; and all the priests and the scribes and the ancients assembled together.
On conduisit Jésus chez le Grand-Prêtre, où tous s'assemblèrent en même temps, les chefs des prêtres, les Anciens, les Scribes.
54 And Peter followed him from afar off, even into the court of the high priest; and he sat with the servants at the fire, and warmed himself.
Pierre, qui le suivait de loin, parvint jusque dans l'intérieur de la coure du Grand-Prêtre. Là, il s'assit auprès du feu, mêlé aux gens de service et se chauffant.
55 And the chief priests and all the council sought for evidence against Jesus, that they might put him to death, and found none.
Les chefs des prêtres et le Sanhédrin tout entier cherchaient contre Jésus un témoignage qui le fît condamner à mort, mais ils n'en trouvaient pas.
56 For many bore false witness against him, and their evidences were not agreeing.
Plusieurs, en effet, déposaient mensongèrement contre lui; mais leurs assertions étaient contradictoires.
57 And some rising up, bore false witness against him, saying:
En surgit enfin quelques-uns qui portèrent à sa charge ce faux témoignage:
58 We heard him say, I will destroy this temple made with hands, and within three days I will build another not made with hands.
Nous lui avons entendu dire ceci: «Je puis, moi, renverser ce Temple fait de main d'homme, et, en trois jours, j'en bâtirai un autre qui ne sera pas de main d'homme.»
59 And their witness did not agree.
Mais ici même leurs dépositions ne concordaient pas.
60 And the high priest rising up in the midst, asked Jesus, saying: Answerest thou nothing to the things that are laid to thy charge by these men?
Alors le Grand-Prêtre se leva au milieu de l'assemblée et posa cette question à Jésus: «Ne réponds-tu rien à ce que ces gens-ci déposent contre toi?»
61 But he held his peace, and answered nothing. Again the high priest asked him, and said to him: Art thou the Christ the Son of the blessed God?
Jésus gardait le silence; il ne répondit rien. Le Grand-Prêtre lui posa une seconde question ainsi conçue: «Es-tu le Christ, le Fils de Celui qui est béni?»
62 And Jesus said to him: I am. And you shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of the power of God, and coming with the clouds of heaven.
Jésus répondit: «Je le suis; et vous verrez le Fils de l'homme siégeant à la droite de la Puissance et venant avec les nuées du ciel.»
63 Then the high priest rending his garments, saith: What need we any further witnesses?
Alors le Grand-Prêtre, déchirant ses vêtements: «Qu'avons-nous encore besoin de témoins? dit-il; vous avez entendu le blasphème!
64 You have heard the blasphemy. What think you? Who all condemned him to be guilty of death.
Quel est votre avis?» Tous le déclarèrent coupable et le condamnèrent à mort.
65 And some began to spit on him, and to cover his face, and to buffet him, and to say unto him: Prophesy: and the servants struck him with the palms of their hands.
Alors ils se mirent, quelques-uns, à cracher sur lui, à lui couvrir le visage d'un voile et à lui donner des coups de poing. «Fais le prophète!» lui disaient-ils. Quant aux gens de service, ils le reçurent à coups de bâton.
66 Now when Peter was in the court below, there cometh one of the maidservants of the high priest.
Pierre était en bas, dans la cour; survint l'une des servantes du Grand-Prêtre.
67 And when she had seen Peter warming himself, looking on him she saith: Thou also wast with Jesus of Nazareth.
Voyant Pierre qui se chauffait, elle lui dit en le regardant: «Toi aussi tu étais avec Jésus de Nazareth.»
68 But he denied, saying: I neither know nor understand what thou sayest. And he went forth before the court; and the cock crew.
Et lui de le nier: «Je ne sais pas, dit-il, et ne comprends pas de quoi tu parles.» Il s'en alla et sortit dans le vestibule.
69 And again a maidservant seeing him, began to say to the standers by: This is one of them.
Mais la servante l'aperçut: «Celui-là en est», répéta-t-elle à ceux qui étaient présents.
70 But he denied again. And after a while they that stood by said again to Peter: Surely thou art one of them; for thou art also a Galilean.
De nouveau Pierre nia. Un moment après, ceux qui se trouvaient là recommencèrent à parler à Pierre: «Certainement tu en es; car tu es aussi Galiléen.»
71 But he began to curse and to swear, saying; I know not this man of whom you speak.
Il se livra alors à des imprécations: «Je ne connais pas, je le jure, cet homme dont vous parlez.»
72 And immediately the cock crew again. And Peter remembered the word that Jesus had said unto him: Before the cock crow twice, thou shalt thrice deny me. And he began to weep.
Soudain un coq chanta pour la seconde fois. Et se souvenant de la parole que lui avait dite Jésus: «Avant qu'un coq chante deux fois, tu me renieras trois fois», Pierre se mit à pleurer.
