Luke 2
1 And it came to pass, that in those days there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that the whole world should be enrolled.
Ahora sucedió en aquellos días que salió una orden de César Augusto de empadronar a todo el mundo.
2 This enrolling was first made by Cyrinus, the governor of Syria.
Este primer censo, se hizo cuando Cirenio era el gobernante de Siria.
3 And all went to be enrolled, every one into his own city.
Y todos los hombres fueron contados, todos en su ciudad.
4 And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem: because he was of the house and family of David,
Y subió José de Galilea, de la ciudad de Nazaret, a Judea, a Belén, la ciudad de David, porque era de la casa y familia de David,
5 To be enrolled with Mary his espoused wife, who was with child.
Para ser puesto en la lista con María, su futura esposa, que estaba a punto de convertirse en madre.
6 And it came to pass, that when they were there, her days were accomplished, that she should be delivered.
Y mientras estaban allí, llegó el momento de que ella diera a luz.
7 And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him up in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.
Y ella tuvo su primer hijo; y, lo envolvió en lino, lo puso a descansar en el lugar donde el ganado tenía su comida, porque no había lugar para ellos en el mesón.
8 And there were in the same country shepherds watching, and keeping the night watches over their flock.
Y en la misma región había pastores de ovejas en los campos, cuidando sus rebaños de noche.
9 And behold an angel of the Lord stood by them, and the brightness of God shone round about them; and they feared with a great fear.
Y vino a ellos el ángel del Señor, y la gloria del Señor los rodeaba; y el temor vino sobre ellos.
10 And the angel said to them: Fear not; for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, that shall be to all the people:
Y el ángel dijo: No teman; porque en verdad, les doy buenas nuevas de gran gozo que serán para todo el pueblo:
11 For, this day, is born to you a Saviour, who is Christ the Lord, in the city of David.
Porque en este día, en la ciudad de David, ha nacido un Salvador, que es CRISTO el Señor.
12 And this shall be a sign unto you. You shall find the infant wrapped in swaddling clothes, and laid in a manger.
Y esta es la señal para ustedes: verán a un niño pequeño envuelto en lino, en el lugar donde el ganado tiene su alimento.
13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly army, praising God, and saying:
Y repentinamente apareció con el ángel un gran ejército de ángeles del cielo, alabando a Dios y diciendo:
14 Glory to God in the highest; and on earth peace to men of good will.
Gloria a Dios en las alturas, y en la tierra paz, buena voluntad para con los hombres!
15 And it came to pass, after the angels departed from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another: Let us go over to Bethlehem, and let us see this word that is come to pass, which the Lord hath shewed to us.
Y cuando los ángeles se habían ido de ellos al cielo, los pastores de las ovejas se decían unos a otros: Vamos ahora a Belén, y veamos esto que ha sucedido, y que el Señor nos ha anunciado.
16 And they came with haste; and they found Mary and Joseph, and the infant lying in the manger.
Y vinieron pronto, y vieron a María, a José, y al niño en el lugar donde el ganado comía.
17 And seeing, they understood of the word that had been spoken to them concerning this child.
Y cuando lo vieron, les dieron cuenta de lo que se les había dicho acerca del niño.
18 And all that heard, wondered; and at those things that were told them by the shepherds.
Y todos aquellos quienes oyeron estaban maravillados de lo que decían los pastores de las ovejas.
19 But Mary kept all these words, pondering them in her heart.
Pero María guardaba todas estas cosas en su corazón, y pensaba mucho en ellas.
20 And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God, for all the things they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them.
Entonces los pastores de las ovejas volvieron, glorificando y alabando a Dios por todas las cosas que habían oído y que habían visto, como se les había dicho.
21 And after eight days were accomplished, that the child should be circumcised, his name was called JESUS, which was called by the angel, before he was conceived in the womb.
Y cuando, después de ocho días, llegó el momento de su circuncisión, se llamaba Jesús, el nombre que el ángel le había dado antes de su nacimiento.
22 And after the days of her purification, according to the law of Moses, were accomplished, they carried him to Jerusalem, to present him to the Lord:
Y cuando los días necesarios de purificación se cumplieron, por la ley de Moisés habían llegado a su fin, lo llevaron a Jerusalén para consagrarlo al Señor.
23 As it is written in the law of the Lord: Every male opening the womb shall be called holy to the Lord:
Como dice la ley del Señor, el primer hijo varón de cada madre será santo para el Señor,
24 And to offer a sacrifice, according as it is written in the law of the Lord, a pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons:
Y hacer una ofrenda, como está ordenada en la ley del Señor, un par de tórtolas o dos pichones de paloma.
25 And behold there was a man in Jerusalem named Simeon, and this man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel; and the Holy Ghost was in him.
Y había en Jerusalén un hombre que se llamaba Simeón; y él era un hombre justo, temeroso a Dios y esperando la consolación de Israel; y el Espíritu Santo estaba sobre él.
26 And he had received an answer from the Holy Ghost, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Christ of the Lord.
Y tuvo conocimiento, por el Espíritu Santo, que no vería la muerte hasta que viera al Cristo del Señor.
27 And he came by the Spirit into the temple. And when his parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him according to the custom of the law,
Y lleno del Espíritu, vino al Templo; y cuando el padre y la madre entraron con el niño Jesús, para hacer con él lo que estaba ordenado por la ley,
28 He also took him into his arms, and blessed God, and said:
Entonces él lo tomó en sus brazos y alabó a Dios y le dijo:
29 Now thou dost dismiss thy servant, O Lord, according to thy word in peace;
Ahora deja que tu siervo vaya en paz, Oh Señor, conforme a tu palabra;
30 Because my eyes have seen thy salvation,
Porque mis ojos han visto tu salvación,
31 Which thou hast prepared before the face of all peoples:
Que tú has preparado delante de todas las naciones;
32 A light to the revelation of the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel.
Una luz de revelación a los gentiles, y la gloria de tu pueblo Israel.
33 And his father and mother were wondering at those things which were spoken concerning him.
Y su padre y su madre estaban maravillados de lo que se decía de él.
34 And Simeon blessed them, and said to Mary his mother: Behold this child is set for the fall, and for the resurrection of many in Israel, and for a sign which shall be contradicted;
Y Simeón les dio su bendición y dijo a María, su madre: Mira, este niño será la causa de la caída y de levantamiento de un gran número de personas en Israel, y para señal que será contradicha;
35 And thy own soul a sword shall pierce, that, out of many hearts, thoughts may be revealed.
Y una espada atravesará tu corazón; para que los pensamientos secretos de los hombres salgan a la luz.
36 And there was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Aser; she was far advanced in years, and had lived with her husband seven years from her virginity.
Y estaba allí, Ana, una mujer profetisa, hija de Fanuel, de la familia de Aser, ella era muy anciana, y después de siete años de casarse.
37 And she was a widow until fourscore and four years; who departed not from the temple, by fastings and prayers serving night and day.
Había sido viuda durante ochenta y cuatro años; ella estaba en el Templo en todo momento, adorando con oraciones y yendo sin comida, día y noche.
38 Now she, at the same hour, coming in, confessed to the Lord; and spoke of him to all that looked for the redemption of Israel.
Ana presentándose en la misma hora, ella alababa a Dios, hablándole de él niño Jesús a todos los que esperaban la liberación de Jerusalén.
39 And after they had performed all things according to the law of the Lord, they returned into Galilee, to their city Nazareth.
Y cuando hubieron hecho todas las cosas que estaban ordenadas por la ley del Señor, volvieron a Galilea, a Nazaret, la ciudad donde vivían.
40 And the child grew, and waxed strong, full of wisdom; and the grace of God was in him.
Y el niño crecía y se fortalecía lleno de sabiduría, y la gracia de Dios estaba sobre él.
41 And his parents went every year to Jerusalem, at the solemn day of the pasch,
Y cada año su padre y su madre iban a Jerusalén en la fiesta de la Pascua.
42 And when he was twelve years old, they going up into Jerusalem, according to the custom of the feast,
Y cuando tenía doce años, subieron a Jerusalén como era la costumbre, de la fiesta;
43 And having fulfilled the days, when they returned, the child Jesus remained in Jerusalem; and his parents knew it not.
Y cuando los días de la fiesta llegaron a su fin y regresaban, el niño Jesús se quedó en Jerusalén, pero José y su madre no lo sabían.
44 And thinking that he was in the company, they came a day’s journey, and sought him among their kinsfolks and acquaintance.
Y creyendo que él estaba con algunos de ellos, se fueron. caminaron por un día; y después de buscarlo entre sus parientes y amigos,
45 And not finding him, they returned into Jerusalem, seeking him.
Y viendo que él no estaba allí, volvieron a Jerusalén, para buscarlo.
46 And it came to pass, that, after three days, they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, hearing them, and asking them questions.
Y después de tres días se encontraron con él en el Templo, sentado entre los sabios, escuchando sus palabras y formulando preguntas.
47 And all that heard him were astonished at his wisdom and his answers.
Y a todos los que oían, estaban maravillados de su conocimiento y de las respuestas que dio.
48 And seeing him, they wondered. And his mother said to him: Son, why hast thou done so to us? behold thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing.
Cuando lo vieron, se sorprendieron, y su madre le dijo: Hijo, ¿por qué nos has hecho esto? mira, tu padre y yo te hemos estado buscando con angustia.
49 And he said to them: How is it that you sought me? did you not know, that I must be about my father’s business?
Y él les dijo: ¿Por qué me buscaban? ¿No te quedó claro que mi lugar correcto estaba en la casa de mi Padre.
50 And they understood not the word that he spoke unto them.
Mas ellos no entendieron las palabras que les hablo.
51 And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject to them. And his mother kept all these words in her heart.
Y descendió con ellos, y vino a Nazaret; e hizo lo que se le ordenó: y su madre guardó todas estas palabras en su corazón.
52 And Jesus advanced in wisdom, and age, and grace with God and men.
Y Jesús crecía en sabiduría y en estatura, y en gracia delante de Dios y de los hombres.
