< Luke 2 >
1 And it came to pass, that in those days there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that the whole world should be enrolled.
Na rĩrĩ, matukũ-inĩ macio, Kaisari Augusito nĩarutire watho atĩ andũ othe a mabũrũri mothe marĩa maathanagwo nĩ Aroma matarwo.
2 This enrolling was first made by Cyrinus, the governor of Syria.
(Rĩĩrĩ nĩrĩo rĩarĩ itarana rĩa mbere rĩrĩa rĩataranirwo hĩndĩ ĩrĩa Kuirinio aarĩ barũthi wa Suriata.)
3 And all went to be enrolled, every one into his own city.
Nao andũ magĩthiĩ kwĩyandĩkithia o mũndũ itũũra-inĩ rĩake mwene.
4 And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem: because he was of the house and family of David,
Nĩ ũndũ ũcio Jusufu o nake akĩambata kuuma itũũra rĩa Nazarethi kũu Galili, agĩthiĩ Judea, agĩkinya Bethilehemu itũũra rĩa Daudi, tondũ we aarĩ wa nyũmba o na wa mbarĩ ya Daudi.
5 To be enrolled with Mary his espoused wife, who was with child.
Nake aathiire kuo nĩgeetha makeyandĩkithie marĩ na Mariamu, mũirĩtu ũrĩa endaga kũhikia, nake aarĩ mũritũ.
6 And it came to pass, that when they were there, her days were accomplished, that she should be delivered.
Na hĩndĩ ĩrĩa maarĩ o kũu, ihinda rĩa mwana gũciarwo rĩgĩkinya,
7 And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him up in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.
Nake Mariamu akĩrigithatha kaana ga kahĩĩ. Agĩkooha na taama, agĩgakomia thĩinĩ wa mũharatĩ tondũ nĩmagĩte handũ ha kũraara thĩinĩ wa nyũmba ya ageni.
8 And there were in the same country shepherds watching, and keeping the night watches over their flock.
Na kũu bũrũri ũcio, nĩ kwarĩ arĩithi maikaraga mĩgũnda-inĩ, maikarĩtie mahiũ mao ũtukũ.
9 And behold an angel of the Lord stood by them, and the brightness of God shone round about them; and they feared with a great fear.
Mũraika wa Mwathani akĩmoimĩrĩra, naguo riiri wa Mwathani ũkĩmatherera hau maarĩ, nao makĩnyiitwo nĩ guoya.
10 And the angel said to them: Fear not; for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, that shall be to all the people:
No mũraika ũcio akĩmeera atĩrĩ, “Tigai gwĩtigĩra. Ndamũrehera ũhoro mwega na wa gĩkeno kĩnene, ũrĩa ũgaatuĩka wa andũ othe.
11 For, this day, is born to you a Saviour, who is Christ the Lord, in the city of David.
Ũmũthĩ itũũra-inĩ rĩa Daudi, nĩmũciarĩirwo mũhonokia; nake nĩwe Kristũ ũrĩa Mwathani.
12 And this shall be a sign unto you. You shall find the infant wrapped in swaddling clothes, and laid in a manger.
Na rĩrĩ, kĩrĩa kĩrĩmũmenyithia ũhoro ũcio nĩ gĩkĩ: Nĩmũrĩona gakenge koheetwo na taama gakometio thĩinĩ wa mũharatĩ.”
13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly army, praising God, and saying:
Na o rĩmwe hakiumĩra gĩkundi kĩnene kĩa araika a igũrũ hamwe na mũraika ũcio, makĩgooca Ngai, makiuga atĩrĩ,
14 Glory to God in the highest; and on earth peace to men of good will.
“Ngai arokumio kũu igũrũ mũno, naguo thayũ ũrogĩa gũkũ thĩ kũrĩ andũ arĩa akenagĩra.”
15 And it came to pass, after the angels departed from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another: Let us go over to Bethlehem, and let us see this word that is come to pass, which the Lord hath shewed to us.
Na rĩrĩa araika acio maamatigire magĩcooka igũrũ-rĩ, arĩithi acio makĩĩrana atĩrĩ, “Nĩtũthiĩ Bethilehemu tũkoone ũndũ ũcio wĩkĩkĩte, ũcio Mwathani aatũhe ũhoro waguo.”
16 And they came with haste; and they found Mary and Joseph, and the infant lying in the manger.
Nĩ ũndũ ũcio magĩthiĩ mahiũhĩte, magĩkora Mariamu na Jusufu o na gakenge kau gakometio thĩinĩ wa mũharatĩ.
17 And seeing, they understood of the word that had been spoken to them concerning this child.
Na maarĩkia gũkoona, makĩmemerekia ũhoro ũrĩa maaheetwo ũkoniĩ kaana kau,
18 And all that heard, wondered; and at those things that were told them by the shepherds.
nao arĩa othe maũiguire makĩgegio mũno nĩ maũndũ marĩa arĩithi acio maameeraga.
19 But Mary kept all these words, pondering them in her heart.
Nowe Mariamu akĩiga maũndũ macio mothe ngoro-inĩ yake, na agĩikara akĩmeciiragia.
20 And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God, for all the things they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them.
Nao arĩithi acio makĩhũndũka, magĩkumagia na makĩgoocaga Ngai nĩ ũndũ wa maũndũ macio mothe maiguĩte na makoona, o ta ũrĩa meerĩĩtwo.
21 And after eight days were accomplished, that the child should be circumcised, his name was called JESUS, which was called by the angel, before he was conceived in the womb.
Mũthenya wa kanana wakinya, rĩrĩa ihinda rĩako rĩa kũrua rĩakinyire-rĩ, kaana kau gagĩtuuo Jesũ, rĩĩtwa rĩrĩa mũraika aakaheete mbere ya nyina kũgĩa nda yako.
22 And after the days of her purification, according to the law of Moses, were accomplished, they carried him to Jerusalem, to present him to the Lord:
Na rĩrĩ, rĩrĩa ihinda rĩao rĩa gũtherio rĩakinyire kũringana na Watho wa Musa-rĩ, Jusufu na Mariamu magĩgatwara Jerusalemu nĩguo magakaneane harĩ Mwathani
23 As it is written in the law of the Lord: Every male opening the womb shall be called holy to the Lord:
(o ta ũrĩa kwandĩkĩtwo Watho-inĩ wa Mwathani atĩrĩ, “Irigithathi rĩothe rĩa kahĩĩ nĩ rĩrĩamũragĩrwo Mwathani”),
24 And to offer a sacrifice, according as it is written in the law of the Lord, a pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons:
na marute igongona kũringana na ũrĩa Watho wa Mwathani uugĩte: “Nĩ ndirahũgĩ igĩrĩ kana tũtutuura twĩrĩ.”
25 And behold there was a man in Jerusalem named Simeon, and this man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel; and the Holy Ghost was in him.
Na rĩrĩ, nĩ kwarĩ mũndũ kũu Jerusalemu wetagwo Simeoni, warĩ mũthingu na mwĩtigĩri Ngai. Nake aatũire etereire kũhonokio kwa Isiraeli, nake Roho Mũtheru aarĩ hamwe nake.
26 And he had received an answer from the Holy Ghost, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Christ of the Lord.
Nĩaguũrĩirio nĩ Roho Mũtheru atĩ ndagakua atoneete Kristũ ũrĩa wa Mwathani.
27 And he came by the Spirit into the temple. And when his parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him according to the custom of the law,
Nake agĩtoonya thĩinĩ wa hekarũ atongoretio nĩ Roho. Na rĩrĩa aciari a kaana kau ti Jesũ, maagatwarire hekarũ thĩinĩ nĩguo mahingie ũrĩa mũtugo wa watho watuĩte-rĩ,
28 He also took him into his arms, and blessed God, and said:
Simeoni agĩkaiyũkia moko-inĩ make na akĩgooca Ngai, akiuga atĩrĩ:
29 Now thou dost dismiss thy servant, O Lord, according to thy word in peace;
“Mwathani Mwene-Hinya, rĩu rekereria ndungata yaku ĩthiĩ na thayũ, o ta ũrĩa wanjĩĩrĩire.
30 Because my eyes have seen thy salvation,
Nĩgũkorwo maitho makwa nĩmonete ũhonokio waku,
31 Which thou hast prepared before the face of all peoples:
ũrĩa ũhaarĩirie mbere ya andũ othe,
32 A light to the revelation of the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel.
ũrĩ ũtheri wa kũguũrĩria andũ-a-Ndũrĩrĩ, o na riiri kũrĩ andũ aku a Isiraeli.”
33 And his father and mother were wondering at those things which were spoken concerning him.
Nake ithe na nyina makĩgega mũno nĩ ũndũ wa maũndũ marĩa maaririo igũrũ rĩako.
34 And Simeon blessed them, and said to Mary his mother: Behold this child is set for the fall, and for the resurrection of many in Israel, and for a sign which shall be contradicted;
Simeoni agĩcooka akĩmarathima akĩĩra Mariamu, nyina wa kaana kau atĩrĩ, “Kaana gaka nĩ gatuĩtwo ga kũgũithia na gũũkĩria andũ aingĩ thĩinĩ wa Isiraeli, na gatuĩke kĩmenyithia kĩrĩa kĩrĩmenagĩrĩrio,
35 And thy own soul a sword shall pierce, that, out of many hearts, thoughts may be revealed.
nĩgeetha meciiria ma ngoro nyingĩ maguũrio. O na ngoro yaku o nayo nĩĩgatheecwo na rũhiũ rwa njora.”
36 And there was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Aser; she was far advanced in years, and had lived with her husband seven years from her virginity.
Ningĩ nĩ kwarĩ na mũtumia mũnabii, wetagwo Anna mwarĩ wa Fanueli, wa mũhĩrĩga wa Asheri. Mũtumia ũcio aarĩ mũkũrũ mũno; aikarire na mũthuuriwe mĩaka mũgwanja kuuma ahika,
37 And she was a widow until fourscore and four years; who departed not from the temple, by fastings and prayers serving night and day.
agĩcooka agĩikara arĩ wa ndigwa na hĩndĩ ĩyo aarĩ na mĩaka mĩrongo ĩnana na ĩna. Nake ndoimaga hekarũ-inĩ, no aatũire kuo ahooyaga Ngai ũtukũ na mũthenya, na akehiingaga kũrĩa irio na akahooyaga.
38 Now she, at the same hour, coming in, confessed to the Lord; and spoke of him to all that looked for the redemption of Israel.
Hĩndĩ o ĩyo agĩũka harĩo, agĩcookeria Ngai ngaatho, na akĩaria ũhoro wa kaana kau kũrĩ arĩa othe meetagĩrĩra kuona gũkũũrwo kwa Jerusalemu.
39 And after they had performed all things according to the law of the Lord, they returned into Galilee, to their city Nazareth.
Rĩrĩa Jusufu na Mariamu maarĩkirie gwĩka maũndũ marĩa mothe maathanĩtwo nĩ watho wa Mwathani-rĩ, magĩcooka Galili, makĩinũka itũũra rĩao kũu Nazarethi.
40 And the child grew, and waxed strong, full of wisdom; and the grace of God was in him.
Nako kaana kau gagĩkũra, gakĩgĩa na hinya; gakĩiyũrwo nĩ ũũgĩ, naguo wega wa Ngai warĩ hamwe nako.
41 And his parents went every year to Jerusalem, at the solemn day of the pasch,
Mwaka o mwaka aciari ake nĩmathiiaga Jerusalemu nĩ ũndũ wa Gĩathĩ kĩa Bathaka.
42 And when he was twelve years old, they going up into Jerusalem, according to the custom of the feast,
Jesũ aakinyia mĩaka ikũmi na ĩĩrĩ, makĩambata nake magĩthiĩ Gĩathĩ-inĩ kĩu kũringana na mũtugo.
43 And having fulfilled the days, when they returned, the child Jesus remained in Jerusalem; and his parents knew it not.
Na Gĩathĩ kĩu gĩathira, rĩrĩa aciari ake mainũkaga-rĩ, kamwana kau ti Jesũ, gagĩtigwo na thuutha kũu Jerusalemu, no matiamenyire.
44 And thinking that he was in the company, they came a day’s journey, and sought him among their kinsfolks and acquaintance.
Nao magĩthiĩ rũgendo rwa mũthenya mũgima, magĩĩciiragia atĩ aarĩ gĩkundi-inĩ kĩao. Thuutha ũcio makĩambĩrĩria kũmũcaria kũrĩ andũ a mbarĩ yao o na kũrĩ arata.
45 And not finding him, they returned into Jerusalem, seeking him.
Hĩndĩ ĩrĩa mamwaagire, magĩcooka Jerusalemu makamũcarie.
46 And it came to pass, that, after three days, they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, hearing them, and asking them questions.
Thuutha wa mĩthenya ĩtatũ makĩmũkora hekarũ-inĩ aikarĩte gatagatĩ ka arutani, amathikĩrĩirie na akĩmooragia ciũria.
47 And all that heard him were astonished at his wisdom and his answers.
Ũrĩa wothe waiguaga akĩaria nĩagegagio nĩ ũmenyo wake na ũrĩa aacookagia.
48 And seeing him, they wondered. And his mother said to him: Son, why hast thou done so to us? behold thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing.
Rĩrĩa aciari ake maamuonire, makĩgega. Nyina akĩmũũria atĩrĩ, “Mũriũ, ũgũtwĩka ũguo nĩkĩ? Niĩ na thoguo nĩ tũgũcarĩtie tũrĩ na kĩeha mũno.”
49 And he said to them: How is it that you sought me? did you not know, that I must be about my father’s business?
Nake Jesũ akĩmooria atĩrĩ, “Nĩ kĩĩ gĩtũmĩte mũnjarie? Kaĩ mũtooĩ atĩ njagĩrĩirwo gũkorwo ndĩ nyũmba-inĩ ya Baba?”
50 And they understood not the word that he spoke unto them.
No-o matiataũkĩirwo nĩ ũrĩa aameeraga.
51 And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject to them. And his mother kept all these words in her heart.
Nake agĩcooka hamwe nao nginya Nazarethi, na nĩamathĩkagĩra. No nyina nĩaigaga maũndũ macio mothe ngoro-inĩ yake.
52 And Jesus advanced in wisdom, and age, and grace with God and men.
Nake Jesũ agĩkũra, akĩũhĩgaga, na akĩnenehaga, akĩendagwo nĩ Ngai, o na andũ.
