Luke 12
1 And when great multitudes stood about him, so that they trod one upon another, he began to say to his disciples: Beware ye of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.
Mientras tanto, habiéndose reunido miles y miles del pueblo, hasta el punto que unos a otros se pisoteaban, se puso a decir, dirigiéndose primeramente a sus discípulos: “Guardaos a vosotros mismos de la levadura —es decir de la hipocresía— de los fariseos.
2 For there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed: nor hidden, that shall not be known.
Nada hay oculto que no haya de ser descubierto, nada secreto que no haya de ser conocido.
3 For whatsoever things you have spoken in darkness, shall be published in the light: and that which you have spoken in the ear in the chambers, shall be preached on the housetops.
En consecuencia, lo que hayáis dicho en las tinieblas, será oído en plena luz; y lo que hayáis dicho al oído en los sótanos, será pregonado sobre los techos.
4 And I say to you, my friends: Be not afraid of them who kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do.
Os lo digo a vosotros, amigos míos, no temáis a los que matan el cuerpo y después de esto nada más pueden hacer.
5 But I will shew you whom you shall fear: fear ye him, who after he hath killed, hath power to cast into hell. Yea, I say to you, fear him. (Geenna g1067)
Voy a deciros a quién debéis temer: temed a Aquel que, después de haber dado la muerte, tiene el poder de arrojar en la gehenna. Sí, os lo digo, a Aquel temedle”. (Geenna g1067)
6 Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings, and not one of them is forgotten before God?
“¿No se venden cinco pájaros por dos ases? Con todo, ni uno solo es olvidado de Dios.
7 Yea, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: you are of more value than many sparrows.
Aun los cabellos de vuestra cabeza están todos contados. No tenéis vosotros que temer: valéis más que muchos pájaros.
8 And I say to you, Whosoever shall confess me before men, him shall the Son of man also confess before the angels of God.
Yo os lo digo: a quien me confesare delante de los hombres, el Hijo del hombre lo confesará también delante de los ángeles de Dios.
9 But he that shall deny me before men, shall be denied before the angels of God.
Mas el que me haya negado delante de los hombres, será negado delante de los ángeles de Dios”.
10 And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but to him that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven.
“A cualquiera que hable mal contra el Hijo del hombre, le será perdonado, pero a quien blasfemare contra el Santo Espíritu, no le será perdonado.
11 And when they shall bring you into the synagogues, and to magistrates and powers, be not solicitous how or what you shall answer, or what you shall say;
Cuando os llevaren ante las sinagogas, los magistrados y las autoridades, no os preocupéis de cómo y qué diréis para defenderos o qué hablaréis.
12 For the Holy Ghost shall teach you in the same hour what you must say.
Porque el Espíritu Santo os enseñará en el momento mismo lo que habrá que decir”.
13 And one of the multitude said to him: Master, speak to my brother that he divide the inheritance with me.
Entonces uno del pueblo le dijo: “Maestro, dile a mi hermano que parta conmigo la herencia”.
14 But he said to him: Man, who hath appointed me judge, or divider, over you?
Jesús le respondió: “Hombre, ¿quién me ha constituido sobre vosotros juez o partidor?”.
15 And he said to them: Take heed and beware of all covetousness; for a man’s life doth not consist in the abundance of things which he possesseth.
Y les dijo: “Mirad: preservaos de toda avaricia; porque, la vida del hombre no consiste en la abundancia de lo que posee”.
16 And he spoke a similitude to them, saying: The land of a certain rich man brought forth plenty of fruits.
Y les dijo una parábola: “Había un rico, cuyas tierras habían producido mucho.
17 And he thought within himself, saying: What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits?
Y se hizo esta reflexión: “¿Qué voy a hacer? porque no tengo dónde recoger mis cosechas”.
18 And he said: This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and will build greater; and into them will I gather all things that are grown to me, and my goods.
Y dijo: “He aquí lo que voy a hacer: derribaré mis graneros y construiré unos mayores; allí amontonaré todo mi trigo y mis bienes.
19 And I will say to my soul: Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years take thy rest; eat, drink, make good cheer.
Y diré a mi alma: Alma mía, tienes cuantiosos bienes en reserva para un gran número de años; reposa, come, bebe, haz fiesta”.
20 But God said to him: Thou fool, this night do they require thy soul of thee: and whose shall those things be which thou hast provided?
Mas Dios le dijo: “¡Insensato! esta misma noche te van a pedir el alma, y lo que tú has allegado, ¿para quién será?”
21 So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich towards God.
Así ocurre con todo aquel que atesora para sí mismo, y no es rico ante Dios”.
22 And he said to his disciples: Therefore I say to you, be not solicitous for your life, what you shall eat; nor for your body, what you shall put on.
Y dijo a sus discípulos: “Por eso, os digo, no andéis solícitos por vuestra vida, qué comeréis, ni por vuestro cuerpo, con qué lo vestiréis.
23 The life is more than the meat, and the body is more than the raiment.
Porque la vida vale más que el alimento, y el cuerpo más que el vestido.
24 Consider the ravens, for they sow not, neither do they reap, neither have they storehouse nor barn, and God feedeth them. How much are you more valuable than they?
Mirad los cuervos: no siembran, ni siegan, ni tienen bodegas ni graneros, y sin embargo Dios los alimenta. ¡Cuánto más valéis vosotros que las aves!
25 And which of you, by taking thought, can add to his stature one cubit?
¿Quién de vosotros podría, a fuerza de preocuparse, añadir un codo a su estatura?
26 If then ye be not able to do so much as the least thing, why are you solicitous for the rest?
Si pues no podéis ni aun lo mínimo ¿a qué os acongojáis por lo restante?
27 Consider the lilies, how they grow: they labour not, neither do they spin. But I say to you, not even Solomon in all his glory was clothed like one of these.
Ved los lirios cómo crecen: no trabajan, ni hilan. Sin embargo, Yo os digo que el mismo Salomón, con toda su magnificencia, no estaba vestido como uno de ellos.
28 Now if God clothe in this manner the grass that is today in the field, and tomorrow is cast into the oven; how much more you, O ye of little faith?
Si pues a la yerba que está en el campo y mañana será echada al horno, Dios viste así ¿cuánto más a vosotros, hombres de poca fe?
29 And seek not you what you shall eat, or what you shall drink: and be not lifted up on high.
Tampoco andéis pues afanados por lo que habéis de comer o beber, y no estéis ansiosos.
30 For all these things do the nations of the world seek. But your Father knoweth that you have need of these things.
Todas estas cosas, los paganos del mundo las buscan afanosamente; pero vuestro Padre sabe que tenéis necesidad de ellas.
31 But seek ye first the kingdom of God and his justice, and all these things shall be added unto you.
Buscad pues antes su reino, y todas las cosas os serán puestas delante.
32 Fear not, little flock, for it hath pleased your Father to give you a kingdom.
No tengas temor, pequeño rebaño mío, porque plugo a vuestro Padre daros el Reino.
33 Sell what you possess and give alms. Make to yourselves bags which grow not old, a treasure in heaven which faileth not: where no thief approacheth, nor moth corrupteth.
Vended aquello que poseéis y dad limosna. Haceos bolsas que no se envejecen, un tesoro inagotable en los cielos, donde el ladrón no llega, y donde la polilla no destruye.
34 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
Porque allí donde está vuestro tesoro, allí también está vuestro corazón”.
35 Let your loins be girt, and lamps burning in your hands.
“Estén ceñidos vuestros lomos, y vuestras lámparas encendidas.
36 And you yourselves like to men who wait for their lord, when he shall return from the wedding; that when he cometh and knocketh, they may open to him immediately.
Y sed semejantes a hombres que aguardan a su amo a su regreso de las bodas, a fin de que, cuando Él llegue y golpee, le abran en seguida.
37 Blessed are those servants, whom the Lord when he cometh, shall find watching. Amen I say to you, that he will gird himself, and make them sit down to meat, and passing will minister unto them.
¡Felices esos servidores, que el amo, cuando llegue, hallará velando! En verdad, os lo digo, él se ceñirá, los hará sentar a la mesa y se pondrá a servirles.
38 And if he shall come in the second watch, or come in the third watch, and find them so, blessed are those servants.
Y si llega a la segunda vela, o a la tercera, y así los hallare, ¡felices de ellos!
39 But this know ye, that if the householder did know at what hour the thief would come, he would surely watch, and would not suffer his house to be broken open.
Sabedlo bien; porque si el dueño de casa supiese a qué hora el ladrón ha de venir, no dejaría horadar su casa.
40 Be you then also ready: for at what hour you think not, the Son of man will come.
Vosotros también estad prontos, porque a la hora que no pensáis es cuando vendrá el Hijo del hombre”.
41 And Peter said to him: Lord, dost thou speak this parable to us, or likewise to all?
Entonces, Pedro le dijo: “Señor, ¿dices por nosotros esta parábola o también por todos?”
42 And the Lord said: Who (thinkest thou) is the faithful and wise steward, whom his lord setteth over his family, to give them their measure of wheat in due season?
Y el Señor dijo: “¿Quién es pues el mayordomo fiel y prudente, que el amo pondrá a la cabeza de la servidumbre suya para dar a su tiempo la ración de trigo?
43 Blessed is that servant, whom when his lord shall come, he shall find so doing.
¡Feliz ese servidor a quien el amo, a su regreso, hallará haciéndolo así!
44 Verily I say to you, he will set him over all that he possesseth.
En verdad, os digo, lo colocará al frente de toda su hacienda.
45 But if that servant shall say in his heart: My lord is long a coming; and shall begin to strike the menservants and maidservants, and to eat and to drink and be drunk:
Pero si ese servidor se dice a sí mismo: “Mi amo tarda en regresar”, y se pone a maltratar a los servidores y a las sirvientas, a comer, a beber, y a embriagarse,
46 The lord of that servant will come in the day that he hopeth not, and at the hour that he knoweth not, and shall separate him, and shall appoint him his portion with unbelievers.
el amo de este servidor vendrá en día que no espera y en hora que no sabe, lo partirá por medio, y le asignará su suerte con los que no creyeron.
47 And that servant who knew the will of his lord, and prepared not himself, and did not according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes.
Pero aquel servidor que, conociendo la voluntad de su amo, no se preparó, ni obró conforme a la voluntad de este, recibirá muchos azotes.
48 But he that knew not, and did things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. And unto whomsoever much is given, of him much shall be required: and to whom they have committed much, of him they will demand the more.
En cambio aquel que, no habiéndole conocido, haya hecho cosas dignas de azotes, recibirá pocos. A todo aquel a quien se haya dado mucho, mucho le será demandado; y más aún le exigirán a aquel a quien se le haya confiado mucho”.
49 I am come to cast fire on the earth; and what will I, but that it be kindled?
Fuego vine a echar sobre la tierra, ¡y cuánto deseo que ya esté encendido!
50 And I have a baptism wherewith I am to be baptized: and how am I straitened until it be accomplished?
Un bautismo tengo para bautizarme, ¡y cómo estoy en angustias hasta que sea cumplido!
51 Think ye, that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, no; but separation.
¿Pensáis que vine aquí para poner paz en la tierra? No, os digo, sino división.
52 For there shall be from henceforth five in one house divided: three against two, and two against three.
Porque desde ahora, cinco en una casa estarán divididos: tres contra dos, y dos contra tres.
53 The father shall be divided against the son, and the son against his father, the mother against the daughter, and the daughter against the mother, the mother in law against her daughter in law, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.
Estarán divididos, el padre contra el hijo, y el hijo contra el padre; la madre contra la hija, y la hija contra la madre; la suegra contra su nuera, y la nuera contra su suegra”.
54 And he said also to the multitudes: When you see a cloud rising from the west, presently you say: A shower is coming: and so it happeneth:
Dijo también a la muchedumbre: “Cuando veis una nube levantarse al poniente, luego decís: “Va a llover”. Y eso sucede.
55 And when ye see the south wind blow, you say: There will be heat: and it cometh to pass.
Y cuando sopla el viento del mediodía, decís: “Habrá calor”. Y eso sucede.
56 You hypocrites, you know how to discern the face of the heaven and of the earth: but how is it that you do not discern this time?
Hipócritas, sabéis conocer el aspecto de la tierra y del cielo; ¿por qué entonces no conocéis este tiempo?
57 And why even of yourselves, do you not judge that which is just?
¿Por qué no juzgáis por vosotros mismos lo que es justo?
58 And when thou goest with thy adversary to the prince, whilst thou art in the way, endeavour to be delivered from him: lest perhaps he draw thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the exacter, and the exacter cast thee into prison.
Mientras vas con tu adversario en busca del magistrado, procura en el camino librarte de él, no sea que te arrastre ante el juez, que el juez te entregue al alguacil y que el alguacil te meta en la cárcel.
59 I say to thee, thou shalt not go out thence, until thou pay the very last mite.
Yo te lo declaro, no saldrás de allí hasta que no hayas reintegrado el último lepte”.
