Judges 8

1 And the men of Ephraim said to him: What is this that thou meanest to do, that thou wouldst not call us when thou wentest to fight against Madian? and they chid him sharply and almost offered violence.

௧அப்பொழுது எப்பிராயீம் மனிதர்கள் அவனை நோக்கி: நீ மீதியானியர்கள்மேல் யுத்தம் செய்யப்போகிறபோது, எங்களை அழைக்கவில்லையே, இப்படி நீ எங்களுக்குச் செய்தது என்ன என்று, அவனோடு கடுமையாக வாக்குவாதம்செய்தார்கள்.

2 And he answered them: What could I have done like to that which you have done? Is not one bunch of grapes of Ephraim better than the vintages of Abiezer?

௨அதற்கு அவன்: நீங்கள் செய்ததற்கு நான் செய்தது எம்மாத்திரம்? அபியேஸ்ரியர்களின் திராட்சை பழத்தின் முழு அறுவடையை விட, எப்பிராயீமர்களின் மீதியான அறுவடை அதிகம் அல்லவா?

3 The Lord hath delivered into your bands the princes of Madian, Oreb and Zeb: what could I have done like to what you have done? And when he had said this, their spirit was appeased, with which they swelled against him.

௩தேவன் உங்கள் கையிலே மீதியானியர்களின் அதிபதிகளாகிய ஓரேபையும் சேபையும் ஒப்புக்கொடுத்தாரே; நீங்கள் செய்ததிலும் நான் செய்யக்கூடியது எம்மாத்திரம் என்றான்; இந்த வார்த்தையை அவன் சொன்னபோது, அவன் மேலிருந்த அவர்களுடைய கோபம் நீங்கினது.

4 And when Gedeon was come to the Jordan, he passed over it with the three hundred men, that were with him: who were so weary that they could not pursue after them that fled.

௪கிதியோன் யோர்தானுக்கு வந்தபோது, அவனும் அவனோடிருந்த முந்நூறுபேரும் அதைக் கடந்துபோய், களைப்பாக இருந்தும் (எதிரியை) பின்தொடர்ந்தார்கள்.

5 And he said to the men of Soccoth: Give, I beseech you, bread to the people that is with me, for they are faint: that we may pursue Zebee, and Salmana the kings of Madian.

௫அவன் சுக்கோத்தின் மனிதர்களை நோக்கி: என்னோடிருக்கிற மக்களுக்குச் சில அப்பங்களைக் கொடுங்கள்; அவர்கள் களைப்பாக இருக்கிறார்கள், நான் மீதியானியர்களின் ராஜாக்களாகிய சேபாவையும் சல்முனாவையும் பின்தொடருகிறேன் என்றான்.

6 The princes of Soccoth answered: Peradventure the palms of the hands of Zebee and Salmana are in thy hand, and therefore thou demandest that we should give bread to thy army.

௬அதற்குச் சுக்கோத்தின் பிரபுக்கள்: உன் ராணுவத்திற்கு நாங்கள் அப்பம் கொடுக்கிறதற்குச் சேபா சல்முனா என்பவர்களின் கை உன்னுடைய கைவசம் வந்ததோ என்றார்கள்.

7 And he said to them: When the Lord therefore shall have delivered Zebee and Salmana into my hands, I will thresh your flesh with the thorns and briers of the desert.

௭அப்பொழுது கிதியோன் அவர்களை நோக்கி: யெகோவா சேபாவையும் சல்முனாவையும் என்னுடைய கையில் ஒப்புக்கொடுக்கும்போது, உங்கள் சரீரத்தை வனாந்திரத்தின் நெரிஞ்சில்முட்களால் கிழித்துவிடுவேன் என்று சொல்லி,

8 And going up from thence, he came to Phanuel: and he spoke the like things to the men of that place. And they also answered him, as the men of Soccoth had answered.

௮அவ்விடம் விட்டு, பெனூவேலுக்குப் போய், அந்த ஊர்க்காரர்களிடத்தில் அந்தப்படியே கேட்டான்; சுக்கோத்தின் மனிதர்கள் பதில் சொன்னபடியே பெனூவேலின் மனிதர்களும் அவனுக்குச் சொன்னார்கள்.

9 He said therefore to them also: When I shall return a conqueror in peace, I will destroy this tower.

௯அப்பொழுது அவன், பெனூவேலின் மனிதர்களைப் பார்த்து: நான் சமாதானத்தோடு திரும்பிவரும்போது, இந்தக் கோபுரத்தை இடித்துப்போடுவேன் என்றான்.

10 But Zebee and Salmana were resting with all their army. For fifteen thousand men were left of all the troops of the eastern people, and one hundred and twenty thousand warriors that drew the sword, were slain.

௧0சேபாவும் சல்முனாவும் அவர்களோடு அவர்களுடைய படைகளும் ஏறக்குறைய 15,000 பேர் கர்கோரில் இருந்தார்கள்; பட்டயம் உருவத்தக்கவர்கள் 1,20,000 பேர் விழுந்தபடியால், கிழக்குப்பகுதி மக்கள் எல்லா ராணுவத்திலும் இவர்கள் மட்டும் மீதியாக இருந்தார்கள்.

11 And Gedeon went up by the way of them that dwelt in tents, on the east of Nobe and Jegbaa, and smote the camp of the enemies, who were secure, and suspected no hurt.

௧௧கிதியோன் கூடாரங்களில் குடியிருக்கிறவர்கள் வழியாக நோபாகுக்கும், யொகிபெயாவுக்கும் கிழக்கில் போய், அந்த ராணுவம் பயமில்லை என்று இருந்தபோது, அதை முறியடித்தான்.

12 And Zebee and Salmana fled, and Gedeon pursued and took them, all their host being put in confusion.

௧௨சேபாவும் சல்முனாவும் ஓடிப்போனார்கள்; அவனோ அவர்களைத் தொடர்ந்து, சேபா சல்முனா என்னும் மீதியானியர்களின் இரண்டு ராஜாக்களையும் பிடித்து, ராணுவம் முழுவதையும் கலங்கடித்தான்.

13 And returning from the battle before the sun rising,

௧௩யோவாசின் மகனான கிதியோன் யுத்தம்செய்து, சூரியன் உதிக்கும் முன்னே திரும்பிவந்தபோது,

14 He took a boy of the men of Soccoth: and he asked him the names of the princes and ancients of Soccoth, and he described unto him seventy-seven men.

௧௪சுக்கோத்தின் மனிதர்களில் ஒரு வாலிபனைப் பிடித்து, அவனிடத்தில் விசாரித்தான்; அவன் சுக்கோத்தின் பிரபுக்களும் அதின் மூப்பர்களுமாகிய 77 மனிதர்களின் பேரை அவனுக்கு எழுதிக்கொடுத்தான்.

15 And he came to Soccoth and said to them: Behold Zebee and Salmana, concerning whom you upbraided me, saying: Peradventure the hands of Zebee and Salmana, are in thy hands, and therefore thou demandest that we should give bread to the men that are weary and faint.

௧௫அவன் சுக்கோத்து ஊர்க்காரர்களிடத்தில் வந்து: இதோ, களைத்திருக்கிற உன் மனிதர்களுக்கு நாங்கள் அப்பம் கொடுக்கிறதற்குச் சேபா சல்முனா என்பவர்களின் கை உன்னுடைய கைவசம் வந்ததோ என்று நீங்கள் என்னை நிந்தித்துச் சொன்ன சேபாவும் சல்முனாவும் இங்கே இருக்கிறார்கள் என்று சொல்லி,

16 So he took the ancients of the city and thorns and briers of the desert, and tore them with the same, and cut in pieces the men of Soccoth.

௧௬பட்டணத்தின் மூப்பரைப் பிடித்து, வனாந்தரத்தின் நெரிஞ்சில்முட்களை கொண்டுவந்து, அவைகளால் சுக்கோத்தின் மனிதர்களுக்குப் புத்திவரச்செய்து,

17 And he demolished the tower of Phanuel, and slew the men of the city.

௧௭பெனூவேலின் கோபுரத்தை இடித்து, அந்த ஊர் மனிதர்களையும் கொன்றுபோட்டான்.

18 And he said to Zebee and Salmana: What manner of men were they whom you slew in Thabor? They answered: They were like thee, and one of them as the son of a king.

௧௮பின்பு அவன் சேபாவையும் சல்முனாவையும் நோக்கி: நீங்கள் தாபோரிலே கொன்றுபோட்ட அந்த மனிதர்கள் எப்படிப்பட்டவர்கள் என்று கேட்டான்; அதற்கு அவர்கள்: நீர் எப்படிப்பட்டவரோ அவர்களும் அப்படிப்பட்டவர்களே; ஒவ்வொருவனும் பார்வைக்கு ராஜகுமாரனைப்போல் இருந்தான் என்றார்கள்.

19 He answered them: They were my brethren, the sons of my mother. As the Lord liveth, if you had saved them, I would not kill you.

௧௯அப்பொழுது அவன்: அவர்கள் என்னுடைய சகோதரர்களும் என்னுடைய தாயின் பிள்ளைகளுமாக இருந்தார்கள்; அவர்களை உயிரோடே வைத்திருந்தீர்களானால். உங்களைக் கொல்லாதிருப்பேன் என்று யெகோவாவின் ஜீவனைக்கொண்டு சொல்லுகிறேன் என்று சொல்லி,

20 And he said to Jether his eldest son: Arise, and slay them. But he drew not his sword: for he was afraid, being but yet a boy.

௨0தன்னுடைய மூத்தமகனான யெத்தேரை நோக்கி: நீ எழுந்து, இவர்களை வெட்டிப்போடு என்றான்; அந்த வாலிபன் தான் இளைஞனானபடியால் பயந்து தன்னுடைய பட்டயத்தை உருவாமல் இருந்தான்.

21 And Zebee and Salmana said: Do thou rise, and run upon us: because the strength of a man is according to his age: Gedeon rose up and slew Zebee and Salmana: and he took the ornaments and bosses, with which the necks of the camels of kings are wont to be adorned.

௨௧அப்பொழுது சேபாவும் சல்முனாவும்: நீரே எழுந்து எங்களைக் கொல்லும்; மனிதன் எப்படியோ அப்படியே அவன் பெலனும் இருக்கும் என்றார்கள்; கிதியோன் எழுந்து, சேபாவையும் சல்முனாவையும் கொன்றுபோட்டு, அவர்கள் ஒட்டகங்களின் கழுத்துகளில் இருந்த பொன்னால் அலங்கரிக்கப்பட்ட பிறை வடிவமான ஆபரணங்களை எடுத்துக்கொண்டான்.

22 And all the men of Israel said to Gedeon: Rule thou over us and thy son, and thy son’s son: because thou hast delivered us from the hand of Madian.

௨௨அப்பொழுது இஸ்ரவேல் மனிதர்கள் கிதியோனை நோக்கி: நீர் எங்களை மீதியானியர்கள் கைக்கு தப்புவித்தபடியால் நீரும் உம்முடைய மகனும், உம்முடைய மகனின் மகனும், எங்களை ஆண்டுகொள்ளக்கடவீர்கள் என்றார்கள்.

23 And he said to them: I will not rule over you, neither shall my son rule over you, but the Lord shall rule over you.

௨௩அதற்குக் கிதியோன்: நான் உங்களை ஆளமாட்டேன்; என்னுடைய மகனும் உங்களை ஆளமாட்டான்; யெகோவாவே உங்களை ஆளுவாராக என்றான்.

24 And he said to them: I desire one request of you: Give me the earlets of your spoils. For the Ismaelites were accustomed to wear golden earlets.

௨௪பின்பு கிதியோன் அவர்களை நோக்கி: உங்களிடத்தில் ஒரு காரியத்தைக் கேட்கிறேன்; நீங்கள் அவரவர் கொள்ளையிட்ட கடுக்கன்களை என்னிடத்தில் கொண்டுவாருங்கள் என்றான். அவர்கள் இஸ்மவேலர்களாக இருந்தபடியால் அவர்களிடத்தில் பொன்கடுக்கன்கள் இருந்தது.

25 They answered: We will give them most willingly. And spreading a mantle on the ground, they cast upon it the earlets of the spoils.

௨௫இஸ்ரவேலர்கள்: சந்தோஷமாகக் கொடுப்போம் என்று சொல்லி, ஒரு துணியை விரித்து, அவரவர் கொள்ளையிட்ட கடுக்கன்களை அதிலே போட்டார்கள்.

26 And the weight of the earlets that he requested, was a thousand seven hundred sicles of gold, besides the ornaments, and jewels, and purple raiment which the kings of Madian were went to use, and besides the golden chains that were about the camels’ necks.

௨௬பிறை வடிவிலான ஆபரணங்களும், ஆரங்களும், மீதியானியர்களின் ராஜாக்கள் போர்த்துக்கொண்டிருந்த விலையுயர்ந்த ஊதா நிற ஆடைகளும், அவர்களுடைய ஒட்டகங்களின் கழுத்துகளிலிருந்த சங்கலிகளும் அல்லாமல், அவன் கேட்டு வாங்கின பொன்கடுக்கன்களின் நிறை ஆயிரத்து எழுநூறு பொன் சேக்கலின் நிறையாக இருந்தது.

27 And Gedeon made an ephod thereof, and put it in his city Ephra. And all Israel committed fornication with it, and it became a ruin to Gedeon and to all his house.

௨௭அதினால் கிதியோன் ஒரு ஏபோத்தை உண்டாக்கி, அதைத் தன்னுடைய ஊரான ஒப்ராவிலே வைத்தான்; இஸ்ரவேலர்கள் எல்லோரும் அதைத் தொழுதுகொண்டதால் விபசாரம் செய்தவர்களானார்கள்; அது கிதியோனுக்கும் அவன் வீட்டாருக்கும் கண்ணியானது.

28 But Madian was humbled before the children of Israel, neither could they any more lift up their beads: but the land rested for forty years, while Gedeon presided.

௨௮இப்படியாக மீதியானியர்கள் திரும்ப தலை தூக்காதபடி, இஸ்ரவேல் மக்களுக்கு முன்பாகத் தாழ்த்தப்பட்டார்கள்; தேசமானது கிதியோனின் நாட்களில் 40 வருடங்கள் அமைதியாக இருந்தது.

29 So Jerobaal the son of Joas went, and dwelt in his own house.

௨௯யோவாசின் மகனான யெருபாகால் (கிதியோனின் மற்றொரு பெயர்) போய், தன்னுடைய வீட்டிலே வாழ்ந்து வந்தான்.

30 And he had seventy sons, who came out of his thigh, for he had many wives.

௩0கிதியோனுக்கு அநேகம் மனைவிகள் இருந்தார்கள்; அவனுடைய கர்ப்பப்பிறப்பான மகன்கள் எழுபதுபேர்.

31 And his concubine, that he had in Sichem, bore him a son, whose name was Abimelech.

௩௧சீகேமிலிருந்த அவனுடைய மறுமனையாட்டியும் அவனுக்கு ஒரு மகனைப்பெற்றாள்; அவனுக்கு அபிமெலேக்கு என்று பெயரிட்டான்.

32 And Gedeon the son of Joas died in a good old age, and was buried in the sepulchre of his father in Ephra of the family of Ezri.

௩௨பின்பு யோவாசின் மகனான கிதியோன் நல்ல முதிர்வயதிலே இறந்து, ஒப்ராவிலே தன்னுடைய தகப்பனான யோவாஸ் என்னும் அபியேஸ்ரியனுடைய கல்லறையில் அடக்கம் செய்யப்பட்டான்.

33 But after Gedeon was dead, the children of Israel turned again, and committed fornication with Baalim. And they made a covenant with Baal, that he should be their god:

௩௩கிதியோன் இறந்தபின்பு இஸ்ரவேல் மக்கள் திரும்பவும் பாகால்களைத் தொழுதுகொண்டதால் விபசாரம் செய்தவர்களாகி, பாகால்பேரீத்தைத் தங்களுக்கு தேவனாக வைத்துக்கொண்டார்கள்.

34 And they remembered not the Lord their God, who delivered them out of the hands of all their enemies round about:

௩௪இஸ்ரவேல் மக்கள் தங்களைச் சுற்றிலுமிருந்த தங்கள் எல்லா எதிரிகளின் கைகளிலிருந்தும் தங்களை இரட்சித்த தங்கள் தேவனாகிய யெகோவாவை நினைக்காமலும்,

35 Neither did they shew mercy to the house of Jerobaal Gedeon, according to all the good things he had done to Israel.

௩௫கிதியோன் என்னும் யெருபாகால் இஸ்ரவேலுக்குச் செய்த எல்லா நன்மைகளுக்குத்தகுந்த தயவை அவன் வீட்டாருக்குப் பாராட்டாமலும் போனார்கள்.
