Judges 5
1 In that day Debbora and Barac son of Abinoem sung, and said:
Or, Debbora et Barac, fils d’Abinoem, chantèrent en ce jour-là, disant:
2 O you of Israel, that have willingly offered your lives to danger, bless the Lord.
Vous qui des enfants d’Israël avez volontairement offert vos âmes au péril, bénissez le Seigneur.
3 Hear, O ye kings, give ear, ye princes: It is I, it is I, that will sing to the Lord, I will sing to the Lord the God of Israel.
Ecoutez, rois; prêtez l’oreille, princes; c’est moi, c’est moi qui chanterai le Seigneur; je célébrerai par des hymnes le Seigneur Dieu d’Israël.
4 O Lord, when thou wentest out of Seir, and passedst by the regions of Edom, the earth trembled, and the heavens dropped water.
Seigneur, lorsque vous sortiez de Séir et que vous passiez par les régions d’Edom, la terre s’émut, et les cieux et les nuées versèrent goutte à goutte leurs eaux.
5 The mountains melted before the face of the Lord, and Sinai before the face of the Lord the God of Israel.
Les montagnes s’écoulèrent devant la face du Seigneur, et le Sinaï devant la face du Seigneur Dieu d’Israël.
6 In the days of Samgar the son of Anath, in the days of Jahel the paths rested: and they that went by them, walked through by-ways.
Aux jours de Samgar, fils d’Anath, aux jours de Jahel, les sentiers se reposèrent, et ceux qui y entraient, marchèrent par des routes détournées.
7 The valiant men ceased, and rested in Israel: until Debbora arose, a mother arose in Israel.
Les forts manquèrent en Israël, et se reposèrent, jusqu’à ce que se levât Debbora, qu’elle se levât mère en Israël.
8 The Lord chose new wars, and he himself overthrew the gates of the enemies: a shield and spear was not seen among forty thousand of Israel.
Le Seigneur a choisi de nouvelles guerres, il a renversé lui-même les portes des ennemis; est-ce qu’un bouclier et une lance paraissaient parmi les quarante mille d’Israël?
9 My heart loveth the princes of Israel: O you that of your own good will offered yourselves to danger, bless the Lord.
Mon cœur aime les princes d’Israël: vous qui volontairement vous êtes offerts au danger, bénissez le Seigneur.
10 Speak, you that ride upon fair asses, and you that sit in judgment, and walk in the way.
Vous qui montez sur des ânes brillants, qui siégez dans le jugement et qui marchez dans la voie, parlez.
11 Where the chariots were dashed together, and the army of the enemies was choked, there let the justices of the Lord be rehearsed, and his clemency towards the brave men of Israel: then the people of the Lord went down to the gates, and obtained the sovereignty.
Que là où les chars ont été brisés et l’armée des ennemis étouffée on raconte les justices du Seigneur, sa clémence envers les forts d’Israël. Alors le peuple du Seigneur descendit aux portes, et il acquitta principauté.
12 Arise, arise, O Debbora, arise, arise, and utter a canticle. Arise, Barac, and take hold of thy captives, O son of Abinoem.
Lève-toi, lève-toi, Debbora, lève-toi, lève-toi, et dis un cantique. Lève-toi, Barac, saisis tes captifs, fils d’Abinoem.
13 The remnants of the people are saved, the Lord hath fought among the valiant ones.
Ils ont été sauvés les débris du peuple, le Seigneur a combattu parmi les forts.
14 Out of Ephraim he destroyed them into Amalec, and after him out of Benjamin into thy people, O Amalec: Out of Machir there came down princes, and out of Zabulon they that led the army to fight.
Un héros sorti d’Ephraïm les a détruits dans Amalec, et après lui un mitre est sorti de Benjamin contre tes peuples, ô Amalec: des princes sont descendus de Machir, et des guerriers de Zabulon, pour conduire l’armée au combat.
15 The captains of Issachar were with Debbora, and followed the steps of Barac, who exposed himself to danger, as one going headlong, and into a pit. Ruben being divided against himself, there was found a strife of courageous men.
Les chefs d’Issachar ont été avec Debbora, et ont suivi les traces de Barac, qui s’est jeté dans le danger comme dans un précipice et un abîme. Ruben étant divisé contre lui-même, une dispute s’est élevée entre les magnanimes.
16 Why dwellest thou between two borders, that thou mayest hear the bleatings of the flocks? Ruben being divided against himself, there was found a strife of courageous men.
Pourquoi habites-tu entre deux limites pour entendre les cris aigus des troupeaux? Ruben étant divisé contre lui-même, une dispute s’est élevée entre les magnanimes.
17 Galaad rested beyond the Jordan, and Dan applied himself to ships: Aser dwelt on the sea shore, and abode in the havens.
Galaad se reposait au-delà du Jourdain, et Dan vaquait à ses vaisseaux: Aser habitait sur le rivage de la mer et se tenait dans les ports.
18 But Zabulon and Nephtali offered their lives to death in the region of Merome.
Mais Zabulon et Nephthali offraient leurs âmes à la mort dans la région de Méromé.
19 The kings came and fought, the kings of Chanaan fought in Thanach by the waters of Mageddo, and yet they took no spoils.
Des rois sont venus, et ont combattu; les rois de Chanaan ont combattu à Thanach près des eaux de Mageddo, et toutefois, butinant, ils n’ont rien emporté.
20 War from heaven was made against them, the stars remaining in their order and courses fought against Sisara.
On a combattu du ciel contre eux; les étoiles, demeurant dans leur rang et dans leur cours, ont combattu contre Sisara.
21 The torrent of Cison dragged their carcasses, the torrent of Cadumim, the torrent of Cisoii: tread thou, my soul, upon the strong ones.
Le torrent de Cison a entraîné leurs cadavres; le torrent de Cadumim, le torrent de Cison: mon âme, foule aux pieds les forts.
22 The hoofs of the horses were broken whilst the stoutest of the enemies fled amain, and fell headlong down.
La corne des chevaux est tombée, les plus vaillants des ennemis fuyant avec impétuosité et se renversant précipitamment.
23 Curse ye the land of Meroz, said the angel of the Lord: curse the inhabitants thereof, because they came not to the help of the Lord, to help his most valiant men.
Maudissez la terre de Méroz, dit l’ange du Seigneur; maudissez ses habitants, parce qu’ils ne sont pas venus au secours du Seigneur, en aide à ses plus vaillants.
24 Blessed among women be Jahel the wife of Haber the Cinite, and blessed be she in her tent.
Bénie entre les femmes, Jahel, femme d’Haber, le Cinéen! et qu’elle soit bénie dans son tabernacle.
25 He asked her water and she gave him milk, and offered him butter in a dish fit for princes.
À Sisara demandant de l’eau, dans la coupe des princes, elle donna du lait, et elle présenta du beurre.
26 She put her left hand to the nail, and her right hand to the workman’s hammer, and she struck Sisara, seeking in his head a place for the wound, and strongly piercing through his temples.
Elle a mis la main gauche au clou, et la main droite à des marteaux d’ouvriers, et elle a frappé Sisara, cherchant à sa tête un endroit pour la blessure, et lui perçant fortement la tempe.
27 At her feet he fell: he fainted, and he died: he rolled before her feet, and he lay lifeless and wretched.
Il tomba à ses pieds, défaillit et mourut; il se roulait à ses pieds, et il gisait inanimé et digne de pitié.
28 His mother looked out at a window, and howled: and she spoke from the dining room: Why is his chariot so long in coming back? Why are the feet of his horses so slow?
Regardant par la fenêtre, sa mère poussait des cris perçants, et de sa chambre, elle disait: Pourquoi son char diffère-t-il à revenir? pourquoi les pieds des chevaux de ses quadriges tardent-ils?
29 One that was wiser than the rest of his wives, returned this answer to her mother in law:
Une des femmes de Sisara, plus sage que les autres, répondit à sa belle-mère ces paroles:
30 Perhaps he is now dividing the spoils, and the fairest of the women is chosen out for him: garments of divers colours are given to Sisara for his prey, and furniture of different kinds is heaped together to adorn the necks.
Peut-être que maintenant il partage des dépouilles, et que la plus belle des femmes est choisie pour lui; on donne à Sisara des vêtements de diverses couleurs pour butin, et on lui amasse un assortiment varié pour orner son cou.
31 So let all thy enemies perish, O Lord: but let them that love thee shine, as the sun shineth in his rising. And the land rested for forty years.
Ainsi périssent tous vos ennemis. Seigneur! mais que ceux qui vous aiment, brillent, comme le soleil resplendit à son lever. Et le pays se reposa durant quarante ans.
