< Joshua 9 >
1 Now When these things were heard of, all the kings beyond the Jordan, that dwelt in the mountains and in the plains, in the places near the sea, and on the coasts of the great sea, they also that dwell by Libanus, the Hethite and the Amorrhite, the Chanaanite, the Pherezite, and the Hevite, and the Jebusite,
Ary rehefa nandre izany ny mpanjaka rehetra izay etỳ an-dafin’ i Jordana, na ny tany amin’ ny tany havoana, na ny tany amin’ ny tany lemaka amoron-tsiraka, na ny tany amoron’ ny Ranomasina Lehibe tandrifin’ i Libanona, dia ny Hetita, ny Amorita, ny Kananita, ny Perizita, ny Hivita ary ny Jebosita,
2 Gathered themselves together, to fight against Josue and Israel with one mind, and one resolution.
dia niray hina niangona hiady amin’ i Josoa sy ny Isiraely izy.
3 But they that dwelt in Gabaon, hearing all that Josue had done to Jericho and Hai:
Ary ny mponina tao Gibeona nahare izay nanaovan’ i Josoa an’ i Jeriko sy Ay,
4 Cunningly devising took for themselves provisions, laying old sacks upon their asses, and wine bottles rent and sewed up again,
dia nanao hafetsena kosa izy ka nandeha, ary nody ho iraka ka nitondra lasaka tonta nasampiny teo amin’ ny borikiny sy siny hoditra tonta sady triatra ka nofehipehezina nasiany divay,
5 And very old shoes, which for a show of age were clouted with patches, and old garments upon them: the leaves also, which they carried for provisions by the way, were hard, and broken into pieces:
ary kapa tonta sady nitampintampina teo amin’ ny tongony, ary lamba tonta notafiny; ary efa maina sy bobongolo ny mofo rehetra izay vatsiny.
6 And they went to Josue, who then abode in the camp at Galgal, and said to him, and to all Israel with him: We are come from a far country, desiring to make peace with you. And the children of Israel answered them, and said:
Dia nankany amin’ i Josoa teo an-toby tany Gilgala izy ireo ka niteny taminy sy tamin’ ny Isiraelita nanao hoe: Avy any an-tany lavitra izahay; koa ankehitriny mba manaova fanekena aminay ianareo.
7 Perhaps you dwell in the land which falls to our lot; if so, we can make no league with you.
Ary hoy ny Isiraelita tamin’ ireo Hivita ireo: Angamba mponina ato aminay ihany ianareo, ka hataonay ahoana no fanao fanekena aminareo?
8 But they said to Josue: We are thy servants. Josue said to them: Who are you? and whence came you?
Fa hoy izy tamin’ i Josoa: Mpanomponao izahay. Ary hoy Josoa taminy: Iza moa ianareo, ary avy aiza?
9 They answered: From a very far country thy servants are come in the name of the Lord thy God. For we have heard the fame of his power, all the things that he did in Egypt.
Dia hoy izy ireo taminy: Avy tany an-tany lavitra indrindra izahay mpanomponao noho ny anaran’ i Jehovah Andriamanitrao; fa efa renay ny lazany sy izay rehetra nataony tany Egypta
10 And to the two kings of the Amorrhites that were beyond the Jordan, Sehon king of Hesebon, and Og king of Basan, that was in Astaroth:
ary izay rehetra nataony tamin’ ny mpanjaka roa tamin’ ny Amorita, izay tany an-dafin’ i Jordana, dia Sihona, mpanjakan’ i Hesbona, sy Oga, mpanjakan’ i Basana, izay tany Astarta.
11 And our ancients, and all the inhabitants of our country said to us: Take with you victuals for a long way, and go meet them, and say: We are your servants, make ye a league with us.
Dia niteny taminay ny loholonay sy ny mponina rehetra amin’ ny taninay ka nanao hoe: Mitondrà vatsy eny an-tananareo ho any amin’ ny haleha, dia mandehana hitsena azy, ka lazao aminy hoe: Mpanomponao izahay; koa ankehitriny manaova fanekena aminay.
12 Behold, these leaves we took hot, when we set out from our houses to come to you, now they are become dry, and broken in pieces, by being exceeding old.
Itony mofonay itony dia vao mafana no nalainay tany an-tranonay ho vatsy tamin’ ny andro nivoahanay hankatỳ aminareo; fa ankehitriny, indro, efa maina sy bobongolo izy;
13 These bottles of wine when we filled them were new, now they are rent and burst. These garments we have on, and the shoes we have on our feet, by reason of the very long journey are worn out, and almost consumed.
ary vaovao ireto siny hoditra misy divay ireto izay nofenoinay; fa, indreo, efa triatra izy; ary efa rovitra ireto lambanay sy kapanay ireto noho ny halavitry ny naleha.
14 They took therefore of their victuals, and consulted not the mouth of the Lord.
Ary nangalan’ ny olona ny vatsin’ ireo, nefa tsy nanontany tamin’ ny vavan’ i Jehovah izy.
15 And Josue made peace with them, and entering into a league promised that they should not be slain: the princes also of the multitude swore to them.
Ary Josoa dia nanao fihavanana taminy ka nanao fanekena taminy mba tsy hamono azy; ary ny lohan’ ny fiangonana koa dia nianiana taminy.
16 Now three days after the league was made, they heard that they dwelt nigh, and they should be among them.
Ary nony efa afaka hateloana no nanaovany fanekena taminy, dia reny fa mifanakaiky aminy ihany ireo sady mitoetra eo aminy.
17 And the children of Israel removed the camp, and came into their cities on the third day, the names of which are Gabaon, and Caphira, and Beroth, and Cariathiarim.
Dia niainga ny Zanak’ Isiraely ka tonga tany an-tanànan’ ireo tamin’ ny andro fahatelo. Ary Gibeona sy Kefira sy Berota ary Kiriata-jearima no tanànany.
18 And they slew them not, because the princes of the multitude had sworn in the name of the Lord the God of Israel. Then all the common people murmured against the princes.
Fa tsy namely azy ny Zanak’ Isiraely, satria Jehovah, Andriamanitry ny Isiraely, no efa nianianan’ ny lohan’ ny fiangonana taminy. Dia nimonomonona tamin’ ireo loholona ny fiangonana rehetra.
19 And they answered them: We have sworn to them in the name of the Lord the God of Israel, and therefore we may not touch them.
Fa hoy ny loholona rehetra tamin’ ny fiangonana rehetra: Jehovah, Andriamanitry ny Isiraely, no efa nianiananay taminy; koa ankehitriny tsy mahazo mamely azy isika.
20 But this we mill do to them: Let their lives be saved, lest the wrath of the Lord be stirred up against us, if we should be forsworn.
Fa izao no hataontsika aminy: Havelantsika ho velona ihany izy, fandrao hisy fahatezerana mahatratra antsika noho ny fianianana nataontsika taminy.
21 But so let them live, as to serve the whole multitude in hewing wood, and bringing in water. As they were speaking these things,
Ary hoy koa ny loholona taminy: Aoka ihany ho velona izy. Dia tonga mpikapa hazo sy mpantsaka rano ho an’ ny fiangonana rehetra izy, araka ny teny nataon’ ny loholona taminy.
22 Josue called the Gabaonites and said to them: Why would you impose upon us, saying: We dwell far off from you, whereas you are in the midst of us?
Dia niantso azy ireo Josoa ka nanao taminy hoe: Nahoana no namitaka anay ianareo ka nanao hoe: Lavitra anareo indrindra izahay, kanjo eto aminay ihany no onenanareo?
23 Therefore you shall be under a curse, and your race shall always be hewers of wood, and carriers of water unto the house of my God.
Koa ankehitriny voaozona ianareo, ary tsy hisy ho afaka, fa ho andevo sy ho mpikapa hazo ary ho mpantsaka rano ho an’ ny tranon’ Andriamanitro ianareo.
24 They answered: It was told us thy servants, that the Lord thy God had promised his servant Moses to give you all the land, and to destroy all the inhabitants thereof. Therefore we feared exceedingly and provided for our lives. compelled by the dread we had of you and we took this counsel.
Dia namaly an’ i Josoa izy ireo ka nanao hoe: Satria nambara tokoa taminay mpanomponao fa Jehovah Andriamanitrao efa nandidy an’ i Mosesy mpanompony hanome anareo ny tany rehetra sy handringana ny mponina rehetra amin’ ny tany eo anoloanareo, ary natahotra ny ho faty izahay noho ny aminareo, ka dia nanao izany zavatra izany;
25 And now we are in thy hand: deal with us as it seemeth good and right unto thee.
koa ankehitriny, indreto, eto an-tananao izahay, koa araka izay ataonao ho tsara sy marina hatao aminay dia ataovy.
26 So Josue did as he had said, and delivered them from the hand of the children of Israel, that they should not be slain.
Dia nanao izany taminy izy ka namonjy azy tamin’ ny tanan’ ny Zanak’ Isiraely, mba tsy hahafaty azy ireo.
27 And he gave orders in that day that they should be in the service of all the people, and of the altar of the Lord, hewing wood and carrying water, until this present time, in the place which the Lord hath chosen.
Dia natolotr’ i Josoa tamin’ izany andro izany ireo ho mpikapa hazo sy ho mpantsaka rano ho an’ ny fiangonana sy ho an’ ny alitaran’ i Jehovah mandraka androany eo amin’ ny tany izay hofidiny.
